Images in browser appear grainy and distored

Q: Images in browser appear grainy and distored

I have Windows XP/Version 2002/Service Pack 3 on my Dell laptop. In early December 2015, I found an old, unopened, uninstalled, unregistered copy of CA Internet Security Suite 2009. I thought I would install it and see if it would automatically upgrade to the current protection level of 2015/2016 for possibly a year and then I would have to pay to continue getting upgrades. Once I installed it, it seemed to slow my laptop down quite a bit. It seemed like every web page I visited, I'd have to manually add it to the firewall to allow access to the site. I started to search for another product and saw that Vipre Internet Security Suite 2016 got good reviews and had a 30 day trial period. I uninstalled the CA product and installed Vipre. This didn't seem to help speed anything up (not that I really thought it would). The most annoying problem I have, and it seemed to start when I installed the CA suite, is that web page images seem to load OK for the first few pages I visit. Then after a few pages, images load half way and the bottom half of the image loads grainy and/or distorted ("piecemeal"). I'm using Chrome version 48.0.2564.103. It happens in FireFox (43.0.1) as well, but doesn't seem to happen as often. I frequently clear the cache and history in both browsers and this doesn?t help. Since the browsers are up-to-date, I'm assuming the problem is with XP. I suppose it could be the graphics card, but I thought I would see dead pixels on the screen, which isn't the case (yet). I have another issue with "bogus hyperlinks" appearing randomly in web pages. When I hover over them, they display a pop up totally unrelated to the current page. This occurs in Chrome and used to occur in Firefox when I was using an older version. I know I should upgrade to at least Windows 7, but wanted to try to use XP for as long as I can. I wish Microsoft would allow you to pay for continued support. I'll probably have to start using my new laptop (more), as this one is probably approaching its end-of-life. I'm just not ready for the funeral. Sorry to include so much detail. Please see attached screen prints. Is anyone aware of anything that can be done to fix my issues? I appreciate any help.

Chris

Preferred Solution: Images in browser appear grainy and distored

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently bought a new computer that has a Gigabyte NVIDIA GetForce FX5200 video card. I have windows XP, Internet Explorer. When I use the Internet, I see grainy looking images for logos that display on websites, such as the book images you see next to titles on Amazon. I recently downloaded the recent drivers for this card and the system says it is working properly. The color quality setting is set at 32 bit Highest Quality. The effect I'm getting is probably what you see if the color quality setting was set at 16 or 8 bit. I ruled out my monitor because my old computer using the same monitor does not display these grainy looking website images. Screen images outside of the Internet on the new computer look just fine, so it seems to be just isolated to when I'm looking at internet web sites. Any help or clues to resolve this issue is appreciated. Thanks.

Is this an LCD monitor?

They give their best display at their "Native Resolution". Other resolutions are not as sharp.

Hi All,

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-LT18E all-in-one desktop. I just received my computer from Sony (1 month later) for a free repair because of a bad Nvidia graphics card 8400M. When I got it back (2 days ago) I noticed that the screen was fuzzy, its as if your looking at it through a screen door. Pictures are kind of blurred and the color (saturation?) is off. I've downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers and installed them.

The graphics card (integrated graphics) is a Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT.

Does anyone know why the monitor or image(s) being displayed are not "crisp" anymore?

Hello guys, I recently installed Windows 8 from Windows 7 and immediately noticed something that continues to bother me. I may be splitting hairs by some people's definition, but I noticed that any image I set as my desktop background, whether higher resolution or matching the resolution of my display, I get a whole lot of little compression artifacts where there previously were none. I can take a pristine quality image, observe it in any viewing application as being pristine, and the instant I set it as the background, I get compression artifacts galore. Well, perhaps not "galore"... It's not quite like looking at a mosaic or anything, but detail all over are muddied and dulled. Colors don't pop and fine lines are all but entirely lost.

In some cases it is more noticeable than others, but when it's there, it's extremely noticeable and not so easy on the eyes. I have no idea why this would be. I have not yet been able to troubleshoot other windows 8 machines to identify if the problem is isolated to my PC or not, but I will asap and let you all know what I find. For now I am assuming this is a problem that perhaps other people are coming across, as I have no idea what could have changed since I upgraded to 8.

My computer had no such problems with 7, and I am a digital painter who unfortunately picks up on this stuff extremely easily. Ultimately, it looks in a lot of areas like somebody sporadically sharpened parts of the image, giving a slightly grainy effect, w... Read more

I have a Minolta 7hi camera using the largest image size and stored as a jpeg (lowest compression) and saved in the sRGB color space.
They look fine on the LCD display, BUT look very grainy as a 8bit bitmap does (similar to the 2k splashscreen).
I have tried 2 different programs to print the photo and the same thing.
The printer is a HP 932 and I'm running 2k.

Now, all other photos and images are and have been fine. Same program(s) same paper and settings with the same printer.

Any ideas??

A:Digital photos print as grainy 8bit images

There is an advanced setting in the printer properties (I'm not at home so my memory is a bit fuzzy) that allows the printer to print in photo mode. I've got the same printer and the same happened to me initially. I found this setting and use it whenever printing photos.

Hope this helps.

The cd is in great condiction so should I cleen my laptop disk place and then if that, how?

A:Distored i'm an american cd

Mmm - could do with a bit more explanation here. Do you mean the sound is "distorted" and not "distored" (no such word)?
if you meant to type "distorted", try cleaning the CD with purpose-made CD cleaner.
You can also buy a special CD that will clean the CD drive. Most good audio centres or computer stores will have them.
They have little bristles attached to them which are designed to clean dirt from the laser lens, but don't get carried away - only use it a couple of times a year as over-use can do more harm than good.

If other CDs play okay and only that one is distorted, then despite what you say it must be a bad CD.

Greetings, i digged out an old HP t3545.uk desktop computer, install fresh version of windows XP SP3 on it, and i cant figure out its sound problem. It also has ATI card in it.

The thing is that by default in bios on board audio is set to auto, and once you boot up into windows, there is no Realtek HD audio device in manage screen as if it does not exist at all.

So i changed the bios setting to onboard audio device enabled, and i appeared in the system. Ive installed latest audio driver from Realtek, i got sound but its heavely distorted. I tried to install audio driver provided by HP, but its extremely outdated and cant be installed to SP3.

Ive tried everything, reainstalling drivers, disabling ati HDMI audio, switching bios parameters to auto, enabled, disabled, nothing helps.

Does this mean that this PC actually has a dead built in audio, or is there something im missing?
Thanks!

I have been currently been having a problem with my computer sounds. This is hard for me to explain but I will try my best to explain it.

During the start of of the computer, after I enter in my password to my account, you would usually hear the Windows start up music. Well I hear it and it sounds very distored. Also I am an average user of Pandora radio and if during times of listening to a station the sounds get electronic sounding if I open another page on a different tab or open a program and it hurts my poor ears.

I have tried to uninstall my sound driver and also have tried updating it with no luck. Any and all help would be great. I am providing both my specs and the hijackthis info.

Hello, I have been searching high and low for a way to resolve this. I'm hoping someone here can help me. I'm having a problem in Windows 7 (64 bit) where a lot of my prompt/dialog boxes are blank and I can't see the text. This mainly happens on prompt windows, like if I am trying to update or install a program. I am on a Dell XPS 9100, with an Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz processor. It has 3GB of Ram and a 500GB hard drive. If that helps at all.

Can anyone help me fix this error? I've run all kinds of virus/spyware/malware scans, but they don't come up with anything. I've attached some screenshots

Thanks in advance!

When posting, always state your OS and version numbers along with names of programs involved in your problem. Always better to post too many details than not enough.

Sometimes it is as simple as keeping your Cache empty.

Internet Explorer->Tools->Internet Options->General Tab.
Click Delete Files and Also Delete All Offline, unless you save offline for a reason.

Also, here is a MS article that might apply:

Hello, I have a problem which actually occurs no matter which browser I use, but since I normally use Chrome I might as well post it here.

I occasionally run into an image which, no matter how I try to get around it, will NOT open in the browser. Clicking "open in new tab" just causes it to download instead, as does copying and pasting the image address into the address bar. This happens for a wide variety of image types, image sizes, and as stated before it is independent of which browser I use.

To be honest, it happens rarely enough that it's not a major issue for me, but I would at least like to know why this happens. I tried Googling every possible combination of relevent keywords I could think of and came up with nothing. Even if you don't have a solution, does anyone at least have an explanation? It seems strange that certain random images cannot be opened in any browser while the other 95% of them can.

A:Some images cannot open in browser.

The images you're referring to are probably protected and the site is blocking. To test this, try the same image on a computer outside your network.

All is working good except images, buttons, (yes even those annoying ads) will not load in Firefor OR Explorer.

So I'm guessing it's a windows thing since neither works.

I've reinstalled drivers. I've searched the internet over.

Tried to register on other sites I found first to get help, funny thing is the security code image... LOL I couldn't see it to be able to type it in... therefore could not register.
Glad this site allowed me to see the image!!!

Recently only some jpegs online have become distorted in my browsers. I have yet to check IE9, but this is happening in firefox and chrome. As you can see, saving the image from the browser retains its distortion. Refreshing does not fix this. Clearing cookies and cache can alter the distortion. I'm quite worried due to this happening in multiple browsers. Could this be a graphics card problem? What's causing this and how can it be fixed?

I have no idea how to begin troubleshooting this.

Welcome to sevenforums.

Do you recall what software you installed and ever thereafter you had this problem?

One alternative is to restore your system to a point in time before this problem surfaced.

RESTORE TO A PREVIOUS SYSTEM RESTORE POINT

WIN | type SYSTEM RESTORE |ENTER | NEXT |
check Show more restore points (lower left)|
Highlight the desired restore point |
Scan for affected programs (lower right) |
make a note of affected programs |
CLOSE | NEXT | FINISH

WIN is the key with the wavy Microsoft flag on top.

We need to know what browser you are using. Assuming you are using Internet Explorer (IE) 8 ...

Click on Tools - Internet Options - General tab. Under Browsing history click on Settings. For "Check for newer versions of stored pages" make sure that "Never" is not selected (mine is on "Automatically"). After hitting OK ...

In the same Browsing history section click on Delete .... Select "Temporary Internet files", make sure nothing else is selected (unless you want to select something else) and then click Delete.

Very strange problem that I've not seen before cropping up here - I wonder if anyone has any ideas?

The site in question is this one. If you click on the link "Xox Snack" on the left hand side it should display a page of thumbnails of products. For some reason the images are all marked as broken on one particular computer and I cannot figure out why.

The settings in Internet Explorer are all correct in relation to displaying images and there are no such problems with any other sites. An identical computer can read the site without issue, as can every other computer on which I have tested it. I have installed Firefox and the problem manifests itself in Firefox too, despite it using a different browser engine and security settings.

What on Earth could cause a single page to fail to display on a single computer using too different browsing engines but be fine on all other computers on the network, irrespective of the O/S and browser being used? There are some oddities on some of the images on the page (for example the source code for the site refers to a JPEG but if you try to save the image on one of the working machines IE and Firefox both interpret the the file format as PNG, but that's only the case for some of the non-displaying images, and the problem affects all).

System in use is IE6 on XP Pro (SP2) but as stated the problem affects Firefox in the same way so does not appear to be IE related. The problem is unique to that site with both IE and... Read more

I also sometimes get images similar to that displayed in post #12 in that same thread.
Most of the time when the images don't display, I just see the place holder. Although sometimes I don't even get the placeholder (Although rarely)
This happens on numerous sites.
If I right click on the place holder and select "View Image" sometimes it shows the image, other times it shows no image but says "<filename here> can't display because it has errors (Or words to that effect).
But I can got on another computer in the house, on the same network, (running Windows 8.1) and using Firefox and it displays the image fine. Both computers are wireless.
And followed all the tips listed in the above URL
I've run my AV (ZoneAlarm), Anti Malware (Anti malwarebytes), Spybot, CCCleaner, Refreshed Firefox, cleared cache, deleted temp files, did SFC /scannow (Which did not report any problems), I don't have ASC either.

But since the refresh, its no longer installed and the problem still remains.

Just bought this HP notebook. Seems very good, except for the audio. When music is playing, it appears to automatically cut the volume when the level gets high, then it slowly increases. This gives music an annoying loud-soft-loud-soft feel that sounds awful. I don't want it normalized, just played straight. This occurs both for online music and for local music. However, it only happens with the internal speakers. With an external speaker plugged in, no distortion. I am trying to turn this off, if at all possible. My searching shows that some drivers have "loudness equalization" for audio effects; However, when I go to Playback Devices > Properties, the Enhancements tab does not have any options at all. Any ideas? The laptop will be used for frequent music playing, so this is a deal breaker if it can't be modified.

this involved a website called friendster.
up until monday i could view all my pictures and everything was working fine.
then all of a sudden not all pictures would load..i can't see my most friend's photos..just icons with red x's.
initially i thought nothing of it..thinking it just had something to do with the site. my sister, using her account, can view her friends' photos either.
i checked the following day and it was still the same. so i asked a friend of mine who has a pc at home to check if friendster isn't working for her as well. she told me the pictures were loading fine.
so i ran a scan using NOD32. it detected some viruses but was able to remove them. i forgot what they were. then i checked the site but it was still the same. i downloaded a free version of LAVASOFT AD-AWARE 2008 then ran a scan again. checked the site again..same thing.

Doing research online I think this is a Registry Corruption problem, possibly with MIME. The help file with MS MSDN is very complicated and I am afraid I will just have to another F&R. Which seems like all I do with this pc. I think it is time for a new pc-and a different brand.

After even more research it would appear that my javascript in the registry may be corrupted as well. Although my pc states it is active, and I have enabled it in Internet Options, every website I go to to check whether I have it comes back negative. Hulu will not function stating my javascript is being blocked but I can't find any program that is blocking it. I checked it out in my Registry and it is there but I can't tell if it is written correctly as I have no examples to go by.

I have a Dell Studio Desktop 540 pc with Windows 7 (upgrade from Vista). I had partitioned a section of my HDD and put Linux Mint 13 on there. Last Thursday I booted in to Linux and did an update on it. Afterwords I could not get back in to Windows OS on drive C. I ended up running a recovery disk that gave me the options to repair, recover, etc. I ran system tests which kept looping and I couldn't get in to either Windows or Linux. I put the Windows 7 Upgrade disk in and did an install where it kept my files in a Windows.old folder. However, this install is corrupt and I am having problems. My most pressing issue right now is that I am unable to fix the problem in where my browsers will not show imag... Read more

Hi,

My friend is experiencing a problem with some images not showing properly, or at all - there are no red X's. I thought this was a browser-only problem, but found the same problem tonight when I started up his McAfee Security software. The main window for the software showed only some images properly. Most were truncated or did not show at all. This has been happening in both FF 3 and IE 7, but now I realize it may be more of a system problem.

He is running XP sp2, and his desktop icons all show. Also, his system windows, like control panel, windows explorer, etc. all work fine.

There seems to be no pattern to what shows and what doesn't. And the computer is clean of viruses, etc., according to both McAfee and SuperAntiSpyware.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a pretty slow internet connection ~100kbs max, and sometimes use tethering from my mobile to run my internet on the PC. since i first did this, my browser (Firefox Nightly build) has started loading images and video in very low resolution, presumably to speed up loading. I cant find any option to change back from this, and its somewhat annoying, i dont mind waiting longer to watch iplayer etc in a resolution that is actually visable.

can any one shed some light on how i can go back to 'normal'?
many thanks!

Hello, I've ran out of ideas of what may be causing this weird error, so I have come to you all in seek of a more experienced user. When I try to load images, sometimes they appear distorted with shifted colors and horribly misplaced (don't worry I've attached a picture) if I keep refreshing the page, they keep changing colors, until at one point, it loads correctly. (I've noticed it's more frequent with long images, which start just fine, then you scroll down and half of it is screwed up).

I've tried:
Clearing the cache
Uninstalling the browsers (Firefox & Chrome)
System Restore
Extensive virus scan

I can't seem to find the answer to this problem, and it's driving me crazy.

Also, I've attached an image of Gizmodo - The Gadget Guide, which shows me this... at first I thought it was them, but then I tried accessing through my iPhone and it loads just fine (both the mobile and desktop sites)

EDIT: Also, if I try to refresh the browser constantly, sometimes I see a chuck of code, and sometimes I get this error:

Quote:
The webpage at http://kotaku.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 330 (net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED): Unknown error.

Many thanks in advance.

http://www.geocities.com/lwbush7/tradewarrior.index.html
is my web page url. I use the K-meleon browser mostly, but occasionally Netscape 7. When I go to my page using either of these, the images work properly. But when I looked at it in IE7 and Safari 3, the images don't work at all. I suspect it is a browser setting problem, but I haven't yet found out how to fix it. It's only a problem for me as I assume most people use IE7, and I'd like the page to display properly. Do you have any idea how I could get IE7 or other browsers to display the page as I intended? I think my html code is correct. Thank you. icebush

I am designing a website in dreamweaver and uploading to the server to see how it is coming along. The images don't show. I have only just started on the site and need to see if all is working sofar. The images are a bit of a problem. I have the Image file uploaded and it shows on the server, but the images don't appear.

A:dreamweaver images not showing in browser

You sure you didn't screw up the page's code?

You tried different browsers?

This is more likely to get an answer if posted in a dreamweaver oriented forum, like say this or this.
Here we deal more with windows 7 and hardware issues, not web design.

Are you running any ad protection programs such as ad watch or anything similar?
Also in the areas that the images are missing is there a red X in the corner?

Is there a way to force a browser (any of them, I have IE6, Netscape7, firefox1.0.4) to cache images only? I dont want to cache a page, because then I would have to refresh. But I dont want to have to download things such as avatars and pages of thumbnails over and over.

Firefox keeps resizing my images - like in image searches. Someone suggested going into about:config and searching for browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing and setting it to false, which I did. No change.

Is there solution?

I'd be grateful for any help. Windows 10 recently went wierd on me - it stopped doing a full copy paste from any web browser. I usually do my copy/paste over to an MS Word file and about 2 weeks ago all it copied was the text, no images? Odd?
I use two methods to copy and paste, either right-click functions or Control/C or V. If I try to copy paste from a Word doc over to another Word doc then everything copies over fine, both text and images, but when I do the exact same from a browser to a Word doc only the text gets copied, and an empty image placeholder appears when I click where the image should be. I've tried various browser but still the same problem. Thanks for any help.
