Folder desktop new "I was on your pc" Checking netstat

Q: Folder desktop new "I was on your pc" Checking netstat

Hello!

I am stumped. I now have a desktop Icon labeled "I was on your PC". Inside the folder there are 2 pdf files (which I did not open) labeled 1943 and a bunch of letters and numbers. It says it was created April 26th, but I really believe I would have noticed it by now as I get on my computer 2xs a week.

Is there anyway I can go back to see if in fact it was hacked? At this point it's pretty obvious I was right? Especially since the file was created at a time I was definitely at work.

I was watching videos, and as suggested went to netstat -ano and compared it with my Task manager pid's.
Well, now I'm even more stumped because almost half of the PID's listed on Command Prompt are not on my Task Manager.

Should anyone have any advice let me know! I genuinely appreciate anyone taking the time to give me advice. Thanks!

Oh, and I have Windows 10. Most of what I find on the PID's are NVIDIA and Microsoft tasks so I don't stop running them. Anything that said csv.host that matched both the established pid and tasks pid I ended tasks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good day all.

I recently restarted my computer only to be met with an empty desktop.

Also, My Start Menu is empty. I can't locate any of programs or documents.a Right clicking and going to windows explorer, I could only view : "My Computer", "Windows (C); and when I click on them, they contain few irrelevant files.

In other words I can't find my personal saved documents, "my document" folder , recycle bin and all other programs.

My wifi still works so the only thing I can do on my system is browse on the internet.

However, I can open a microsoft office file, PDF files, if I download it directly from my email or from an external drive.

I can save files on my new blank desktop.

I presume this is a virus attack.

Can anyone be kind enough to advise me on what to do?

Your files and folders may have been hidden by the virus, go to folder options and 'show hidden files and folder' to see if they actually are hidden. If they are, you can use Grindler's UnHide tool to 'unhide' all of your files and folders. As for the virus, move this thread to the virus and other malware removal forum in order for it to be noticed by an authorised malware removal member.

HI, first of all, I found out that my home computer was infected by the lovelorn worm. Plan to clean that tonight.

Secondly, I found copies of 2 files named "folder" and "desktop" in almost all folders. The files where identical so I suspect that there is a virus that's propagating this. Is my hunch correct? Is this related to the lovelorn virus or is it another kind? What should I do?

Thanks!!!

My friend's computer seemingly got a virus, since it sent an email to somebody in her email list, on its own. She asked me to take a look.

She had a virus checker, but it had never been updated. So I installed "AVGfree" and ran that. It found a "trojan horse" virus as well as some other stuff that it said should be removed, so I did. I then ran "ccleaner" and it suggested to remove a TON of crap, like 500mb worth of files (she installs dumb stuff on her computer all the time). I removed these files. Then I ran "spybot" and it removed some stuff. I then defragged, which it needed.

So here I am, feeling like a hero, but then I reboot and there's a message saying that "lsass.exe" cannot be found. I cancel this message, and then there's another message saying that "ipwins.dll" cannot be found.

I tell her to just ignore these messages until I figure it out, but then she informs me today that she cannot access her email account on her computer. So I've gotta figure out how to fix this.

Any advice?? Thanks.

A:After virus checking and cleaning, "lsass.exe" and "ipwins.dll" missing

She could try the system file checker : tell her to prepare her XP CD (she'll need it if it asks to replace the missing files), then she will have to go to start => run, and type "sfc /scannow".

If that fails, she can perform a repair install if she has an OEM, retail or upgrade XP CD (recovery CD's cant' do that). She will have to boot on the cd, thus she needs first to change the boot order in the bios to CD-rom first. Then, when XP setup loads, choose the option "To setup Windows XP now" (not the one about recovery console). On the next screen (after the licence agreement) she should be given the option to repair her current xp installation by typing R.

Once that's done, if the CD wasn't a SP2 version, first thing is to go to windows update to reinstall XP SP2 and all updates she could have done since. Don't surf on the internet before any antivirus and firewall (either windows or another) is enabled.

Solution:

open Command Prompt (CMD) via RUN

then either rename or delete the folder using dos commands and the short 8letter name.

Hi,

I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons...

This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct. Any help much appreciated.

Thanks.

Every time I boot my computer the icons of programs and folders on desktop are black squares. After each startup I have to use a "rebuildiconcache.bat" file made by someone here to restore them -see attachment-.

Windows 7 auto update in the middle of the night messed everything up. My desktop is empty, my documents and other folders are also empty.

However, if I navigate through MyComputer, I can still see the files where they should be. Windows is presenting me with a new and empty directory instead.

EXAMPLE:

REAL DIRECTORY (where my files exist): Computer/C:/Users/PC/Downloads

START MENU DIRECTORY (empty when you click downloads): Computer/C:/Windows/System32/config/systemprofile/Downloads.
So, the start menu navigation used to take me to the correct folder and is now taking me to some Sys32/config nonsense folder.

How do I get the desktop and start menu to access the correct folders like it used to before the update. My data and files are not deleted...it just seems that way because they aren't showing the right folders.

Thanks.

A:Windows 7 using "wrong" desktop and folder paths after update.

Sounds like your user profile has lost it's connection with where it's data is stored.

Enable the hidden Administrator account from WinRE/Win 7 install DVD/flash drive.

User Account Password - Change from WinRE

Follow through part of Step 9. Logon on to the "Administrator" account

The key is a registry hack that redirects Windows back to the ProfileImagePath of the original profile.

Quote:
Click on Start then Run. type regedit and press Enter or click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Once there, you will see the SID's listed for all of the profiles on the machine. Within the Key for each SID there is an entry called "ProfileImagePath" that will look like
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\UserName...
Scroll through the SID's until you find the one with the screwy name, like
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\youruserid.2
This is just an example, could be something else weird.
Just edit the Key to remove the ".2", and it will point the user back to their old profile...
Got this from TechRepublic.com but it's no longer there.

Undo the magnify.exe change made earlier and disable the hidden Administrator account if you want. I leave mine available in case I ever need it.

Hi,

The problem started about a week ago when suddenly an empty "Logs" folder was created on my Desktop. I didn't think much of it and deleted it but then it happened again repeatedly since then. I can't find out why this is happening and what is causing it, did a Full Scan with KIS 2015 many times and Malwarebytes to no avail. I also did AdwCleaner and that didn't find anything. The folder is an empty folder named "Logs". That's it. Just a folder.

The folder seems to be created on a specific time (today's was created on exact 11PM and again at 1.25AM, 2.5 hours after the first one). I wish I could find a way to see which program created what folder, if that is possible then please help.

Outlook 2003:I'm a massive fan of outlooks Search folders, I receive in excess of 400 emails per day, of which approximately 250 need my attention, even if to reply back and give someone an answer.

A problem I find is that I am so busy with my emails, I often need to clean out my inbox. I do this by setting up basic search folders such as "all emails from my team which are in my inbox only" or "any email sent to me which was part of a distribution list in my inbox only" etc...

This is great for filtering my mail and I would like to create a rule as such:

"All mail within my inbox which has been either replied to forwarded by myself".

I can't seem to find any options and I'm hoping an Outlook guru can help

If you don't know the answer, can you try googling it for me to see if you can find anything, loads of heads are better one...

I added a slave drive to my Windows XP Pro computer, and it appears to work properly.

However, when I open the "Documents and Settings" folder (on the slave drive E:\, which is Windows XP Home Edition -- not XP Pro), I do not see any of my documents, sub-folders, etc. There should be MANY sub-folders (inside the "My Documents" folder which isn't even visible), with hundreds of documents, jpgs, etc. within it.

When that drive is installed as the Primary drive in my other computer, the User "Larry" (which is me) has all Administrative privileges. On the computer that I'm running now (with the slave drive in it), I also have Administrator privileges. I own both computers.

My User Name "Larry" is password-protected when I login to Windows (when the drive is Primary and installed into my main computer (not this computer with XP Pro).

I've tried clicking on all the users; Administrator, Default User, Larry, Guest, etc. (Note: I get an "Access Denied" error when clicking on the Guest "Documents and Settings" folder).

So, the questions are:

1. Why can't I see any files or subdirectories in the "Documents and Settings" folder on the slave drive?

2. There's supposed to be a folder named "My Documents," but I can't find it. Normally, that path is "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents".

Is it just saving the screenshots somewhere else or is it just not taking screenshots at all? Don't know about your specific system, but on my Win 10 lappy, the screen blinks (dims) when the screenshot is taken.
Did you look in all the subfolders in Pictures to see if Screenshots folder is buried in one of them?
Win 10 also has a Snipping Tool which will allow you to put a box around the part of the screen you want to capture and then you can save it wherever you want. Maybe that's easier, and you can pin the Snipping Tool to the Start menu so it's easy to find.

Not a major issue, of course, purely cosmetic, but still a minor annoyance none-the-less:

I have a number of card reader drives that I never use (haven't even removed that plastic cover tape from them to help keep the dust out) that show when viewing the "Computer" window that displays drives. Is there any way to hide specific unused drivers from this view? Not remove drive entirely, of course, I may need to use one in the future, but just to hide them so they aren't visible, until I may chose to make them visible again?

Thanks as always,

Russell

A:Hiding unused "removable storage" devices from "Computer" folder

Hello Russell,

You could check Hide empty drives in the Computer folder in Folder Options to have them stay hidden until you insert a card. When a card is inserted, the drive will display in Computer.

Drives - Hide or Show Empty Drives in Computer Folder

Hope this helps,

Also I have difficult moving some folders into other folders on teh desktop?

Any ideas? Thanks.

I've run the dos command "netstat" and there seems to be an awful lot of activity. I don't really know the best way to interpret what it is that I'm looking at - can someone give me an idea as to what a good, or bad, netstat scan would look like and what it reveals about a (dsl) connection?
I've run other port scans (dslreports test) and the results all come back favorable, yet there seems to be a ton of traffic on my connection-

Many thanks in advance-

The requested operation requires elevation.

If I am running thic cmd as an administrator, what other elevation can be done ? If I can not elevate any further, why is this cmd not working ?
How can I make this cmd work ?

Thanks

Are you right clicking on Cmd Prompt and selecting Run as Admin or just doing a normal left click to activate it ?

I would like to know if what I'm seeing is something to worry about. When I ran netstat without any browsers/programs open, I got the usual single line but with "localhost:ingreslock" under the foreign address column(close_wait under state). After opening a page in IE, I could not get that to show up again. I closed everything again, and still can't get it to show up. Upon coming to this site, I ran netstat again, this time getting 18 entries(all established state) with LB140.LSAG.COTENDO.net:http to show up. Another run gets the seemingly correct stuff(lax04s08-in-f171e100.net:http and https) with time_wait state. Further runs gives only the usual single entry but with localhost:2072 under the foreign address column.
I don't have any noticeable problems with the system or connection, other than having to occasionally reboot the modem(expected). Even if this isn't anything to worry about, would you please explain what causes :ingreslock to show up?

Hi All, Happy New Year!

First time posting... On 1/3/08 i ended up with a bunch of viruses on my computer. From what I can gather they are bad news. I down loaded PC Tools to do a search and found a bunch of Trojans and other nasties...

I have uploaded a screen shot of the PC Tools scan...

In the "C:\Program Files\Video Add On" folder the following can't be deleted:
icmtr.dll
icthis
isfmdl.dll
isfmm
isfmntr

In the "C:\Program Files\Helper" folder the following was found:
turbosearchsite.dll e404 Module

What is this? Do I need the file in Helper?

Please help!

PS: I am not a techno savvy guy. I kinda know what is going on but only enough to get myself into trouble and not be able to get out! I tried a few things to get rid of them but was unsuccessful.

From what I have seen I will be here for a bit. Thanks in advance.

Wanted to resurrect an older thread, but its closed :

Please read completely before responding.
I am a 30 year IT pro, most of it as a programmer. I am the geek in charge of a tech non profit org in Hawaii. www.HawaiianHope.org
so yea.. i have at least half a clue.

Here is the deal.
In doing drive copies, data recoveries, etc... when we are moving a mass amount of data from one drive to another we run into this problem a lot.
"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"
If you restart the move, it will continue on and keep going, restart enough times and eventually it will move all directories.

I think its a programming issue with windows and wonder if anyone has a work around ?

I have a suspicion that the copy process is getting out of sequence. That it is trying to move a folder before it actually emptied it. Possibilities are :
1) windows forgot its place in moving through and navigating numerous sub directories and it is having a problem with “recursive calls.”
2) Computers with hyper threading or dual core processors are spawning the movement of files across multiple processes, and some are getting ahead of the other.
3) It did actually move the file, but the cache or something in memory has not updated, or the full data write has not completed yet before it tried to move the directory. (delayed write)
Yes, you can copy and then delete the old... Read more

A:"Error moving file or folder" -- "directory is not empty"

This is a known issue. It is by design.

As you may know, moving is in its essence an unsafe process. It would be better to use the actual sequence of copy and then delete.

I keep my audio files in folders. And I don't know why every now and then when I open these folders all the files show in "Tile mode". I hate that and always convert them all to "List mode". But in a few days they go back to all showing in "Tile mode" again.

Is there a way to make all the contents of folders Always show in "List mode"?

I have searched all over the web and cannot seem to find a solution to the problem I recently started having with my computer. (Although I have found plenty of people claiming to have the same problem.) This is on a computer running XP Pro SP3 with an AMD Anthlon II X2 CPU processor: Normally, when I download something - file, pic, etc. - I can left click on the download dropdown box (revealing the downloaded items list), right click on an item and choose "Open containing folder" and the folder I download the item to would open. (I choose where downloads go, not the My Docs Download folder.) Now, nothing happens when I choose "Open containing folder". At first I thought it was a Firefox problem since that is the browser I usually use so I did a ?refresh? but that did not correct the problem. Then I realized it was also happening with Chrome, so that ruled out a browser setting causing the problem. (I have IE but never use it.) If what I have downloaded uses a program, double clicking on the file in the dropbox still opens the correct program normally.

More investigating revealed that right clicking on a program icon on my desktop and choosing "Find target" was also not working ? nothing happens. (Normally the program folder would open with the .exe file highlighted.) I have to think both problems are caused by the same malfunction. Windows Explorer is functioning normally and I can locate the folders and files manually.

Hey folks,

My first post on here but I'm in serious trouble. I got a "new" (to me anyway) desktop running XP today and found the audio hardware wasn't working. So I pillaged an old machine for its sound card, and inserted that onto the motherboard. Also connected the Aux and CD lines to the top of the daughterboard.

Since then, to my horror, the machine has failed to boot. All plugged in, keyboard working, screen on and being used on another box for this very post. All I get now is the usual chirps from the internal soundcard followed by a few very low notes, definitely depressing so I guess they're suggesting something's failed. There's no further action from the CPU, the fan still works, but there is no screen output whatever.

Have I fried the motherboard without realising?!

Also, ironically, the last failure tone was delivered by my speakers through the originally non-responsive audio hardware!

I'd love a bit of help on this one, because my knowledge of computers' insidey bits is pretty poor.

Many thanks,

Joe.

Ok where do I begin?! I have been dealing with viruses, spyware/malware for the past week. It all started with Norton advising me that I had been infected with Trojan. Vundo and Trojan.Zonebac. After that I started receiving many different pop ups warning me about critical system alerts. I also had an annoying yellow triangle at the bottom of my screen warning me about different trojans and worms. More evil friends included 2 new icons that had made their home on my desktop one named "Live Safety Center" and the other "Online Security Guide", also installed was a new toolbar named "Security Toolbar 7.1". I have scanned my computer with many different programs and have somehow finally managed to get rid of the pop ups and toolbar, although I know I'm probably still infected somewhere. I'm sorry this is so long but, I wanted to explain EVERYTHING! I'm running Windows XP SP2, and have followed all steps to post. I downloaded DSS, but after many attempts to run, it just wouldn't let me. I do have a fresh hijackthis log and my Panda report, I hope this is good enough.
Many thanks in advance to whomever helps me, I am desperate!

Hi all

Ill cut to the chase.

What I am asking is someway of turning the Entire Windows Desktop/Screen "Black and White" not simply High Contrast.

I am one of those unfortunate ones, like many, that suffer from quite severe migraines from time to time. Couple this with frequent headaches, sometimes daily. This obviously isnt helped by the fact that my hobby and career are both in IT. I have tried every possible solution to alleviate the headaches. Lay off certain foods, make sure to have a balanced diet. Turn off any strong lighting around my computer screen, remove any strong colours from the desktop etc......

Windows XP / Vista have tried to address this issue with the accessibility wizard, where you can select the High Contrast Options to take any strong colours off the screen. Unfortunately this still doesnt get rid of everything.

When you make any major changes or "logoff" in XP/Vista, the screen fades to "black and white" for a short period. If you know what I am on about, thats the effect I am after.

More than likely a black and white layer is laid over the desktop to create this effect, unfortunately you would not be able to access anything underneath.

I need a fully functional XP machine in complete black and white.

On old CRT monitors you were able to remove the colour, making the screen B&W, but with alot of LCD screens this function is not available.

If anyone has any ideas, you would be helping so many people.

A:NO DESKTOP after booting up … & SYSTEM RESTORE "Incomplete" … & "Strange" Temp Files

Usually when the machine has a "blank" desktop, the boot/startup process has been interupted or is frozen to before Explorer is launched.

You can launch Explorer manually be navigating C:\Windows and double-clicking "Explorer".

If successful, do the following:

Start>Run>(type) "msconfig" and turn off all non-MS services and all startups.

Then, Start>Run>(type) "cmd", and at the command prompt type "chkdsk /f" and schedule a chkdsk to run on next reboot.

Reboot system and report results.

I have been plagued for years by this bug (see attached Mad_Explorer_col.JPG screen dump), and this morning after visiting Tech Support Guy > Windows XP then searching for "Windows Explorer", on page 2 in "Solved: Explorer tree display curiosity, AKA Odd Windows Explorer Bug", page 2, I found the cause and solution brought by Mosaic1 Wed 07 Mar 2007 05:48 GMT:
Do you have the desktop toolbar on the taskbar?and mrwes Tue 07 Aug 2007 18:34 GMT:
You can get around this by making the toolbar point to the Desktop but using c:\Documents and Settings > (Profile name) > Desktop. You don't see the My Computer and IE icons in the list, but everything else shows up...Thanks a lot to Mosaic1 and mrwes!
