I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Reinstall Window XP- Product Activation

Dell OEM disks do not require activation.  If the SLP key is missing this means you did not use DELL OEM media OR you are trying to use XP on a system that did not come with XP.   Microsoft DOES NOT provide support for SLP activation or OEM Versions of windows.

"Microsoft feeds synchronization" errors are XP Internet explorer errors and has nothing to do with Activation."
XP is end of life End of support AND microsoft has removed the downloads for Service pack 1 and 2 and 3.

Reinstalls of XP require service packs as well as IE8 minimum.
Its probably too late to get most of the links below.

XP is no longer supported. I highly recommend you download all 4 gigs of the files below to a flash drive because later on they will no longer be available.

All of the Dell CD's I have have Dotnet 1.1 sp1 on them.  You have to install your dots in order.  CHIPSET Should be FIRST before anything else.

There will be tons of stuff to install if you don't have even with SP3

IE8 being one. DOTNET 1.1 is on the XP CD from dell.

I strongly recommend you download the files onto a flash drive because there is no telling how long these will stay.

It wont let you backtrack.

Good morning, i've called the USA toll frre phone number and still not working. I visited the site you posted to me and it shows that the Product Key of WINDOW RT 8.1 is preinstalled on the system embedded in the UEFI / BIOS firware of OEM PCs. so i did research on how to get the Product Key from the UEFI/ BIOS and i found out i will have to download a software call (NirSoft's Produkey or RWEverything) to reveal the embedded product key. The problem with this Window RT 8.1 is that, is only Application download from Window Store or Microsoft Store that can run on it. Please what do i do Now?

So my friend has a 6670 GDDR3 2GB and he was wondering if it's possible to control the voltage of the card so he overclock pass the safe limit of 900MHz core clock. The base clock is 800MHz core clock and he want's to try and get it to run at 950MHz core clock with the fan speed at a higher speed of course, what software allows him to do this?

A:Overclocking pass the safe limit?

Use amd ccc overdrive. Take it in small steps and watch the temp. That card has no fans so you wont get much. I wouldnt let it go over 85C.

I picked up this lenovo laptop and shortly after I got it the HDD went out. I replaced the HDD and Installed a full version of Windows XP SP2 then used the Win 7 upgrade disc I bought. I did a clean install of the Win 7 then I activated it at that time without any issues. Some time after that I started getting the message it wasn't a genuine copy. I rearmed the time period but I'm not able to activate the copy again with the PID. I get the message this product is for upgrade and not a clean install. I need to find out if I will be able to register this copy or if I will need to start over from scratch. I did try putting in another PID but it didn't activate with it. I haven't been able to change the PID back due to the message I am getting about the upgrade not clean install.

I appreciate any help I can get with this issue.

Dear everyone, like the title suggest...
is there a limit on ho w many times you do a clean install and online activation on your windows 7 FPP?
because... the weirdest thing just happened to me, i formatted my win7 6 times in the last 15 days... same computer, and.... the last time i tried to activate online, it failed.

The error code said something like... "Activation code cannot be used on the server something..., you have to buy new product key something..."
called the MS CS and all is well, but... im just wondering, if i ever do a clean reinstall again... do i have to call MS CS again...?
Is my FPP product key blocked forever from online activation...?
Activating by phone is supposedly okay. It's just... Indonesia and customer service is like your worst service nightmare times 10.
It's a stroke-inducing experience.

A:<ASK>Windows 7 FPP; Activation no.of times limit? Online act. blocked?

Hello Fajar,

It was only because you activated it so many times in a short time period with the same key number, and got red flagged.

You should be fine and able to do the normal online activation if it's not activated again so soon. If so, you can always do a phone activation again.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hey. Out of all of my computer experience i have never heard of or seen this problem.

I downloaded windows upgrade advisor on my laptop and ran it. It said that I was able to run windows 7. So i installed it using usb because my laptop only has a cd drive, not a dvd drive. After installing it and it prompted me that it was going to restart and it did but when it came on again, it skipped all of the setup process such as entering username, computer name, password, my preferences for updates, and product key. it went straight to a screen asking me for a username and password......... i never created one so it's kind of difficult to get past that screen. haha.

i never altered installation files or anything I just used diskpart to set up the usb drive and then just transfered the files diectly from the windows dvd to the usb using another computer. =\

Any help would be greatly appreciated. =P

Thanks in advance!
Jon

A:Clean Install never asked me for username/pass/product key etc..

Thats not a regular win7 disk. Its a modded one, probably with an answer file (autounattend.xml) that did all that work for you. Even in 3rd party tools like RT7lite theres an unattend option that automates steps like user creation, product key and regional settings.

IMPORTANT: System does not freeze in safe mode but it does freeze in safe mode with networking.

I made a thread a while back about a new laptop i got - basically had different sorts of BSOD and freezing. Can't remember if BSOD were present in diagnostic mode , but the random total freezes were (require restart).

Don't know if i will succeed in returning it but i need to know if it is hardware or software because if i send it one more time in service and it's fine (physically) they will make me pay for it and shipping (to another country).

I sent it to their service (Lenovo) and they changed my HDD and DVD unit.

Now it has several new problems and the ones from before: namely the HDD goes wild with the load cycles and other , click sounds in idle and more minor stuff.

Here is the old thread - for reference - same problems now with replaced HDD.

UPDATE: Ok - it ran more than 10.5 hours in safe mode without problems.

Can i say for certain it's NOT a hardware issue?

A:Second thread-freezing and BSOD approaching product return limit

Forgot to add- ran 1 pass of memtest and also win7 memtest and got no errors.

These things happen under both video cards so it's not the video.

It's not the HDD because that one got replaced.

That leaves the motherboard and CPU if it's hardware or even memory (i don't trust those tests)

Most frequent blue screens are memory management and pool header

Also - i can't remove memory sticks because i don't want to lose my warranty. I have a Lenovo one and a store one and i don't know about the store policy on this .

How many activations do i get per key and if it is only one what happens when i use it twice?

A:Activation key(product key)

You should get infinite activations with the key, AS LONG AS, it is used on the one computer, when you use it the second time, I should think you have to phone microsoft to reactivate it, I take it they kept the situation the same as XP, so thats what i'm going by.

XP usually generates a key for the computer hardware to check its on the one computer and if not asks you to reactivate, where microsoft can see past activations etc. All in place to simply stop you installing on as many PCs as possible.

Hello Tech team

I would like to know how to remove the product activation reminder?
I perform a clean install on my system because it always rebooting
and did a startup diagnostic and couldn't find the cause or the problem
so I decided to do a clean installed. after XP home was installed, the
key product activation on my system tray is always popping up reminding
me that I have 30, 26, 14 days to activate. everytime that I click on the
icon it shows that windows is already activated and click exit.
I know that if windows is not activated, windows will generate a product
ID and phone numbers for Microsoft to activate. since the product is showing
that it is activated it will not generat a product ID and no phone number for
activation. Please help, it is driving me up the wall because it is always popping up in the middle of my sessions. Thanks

A:Product Activation

This seems to be a strange problem, but here is how you disable Baloon-tips in Windows XP:

Fire up "regedit", go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
Advanced
then:
modify the DWORD value EnableBalloonTips,
Valuedata instead of a 1, make it a 0.
Done. No more Baloon-tips.

It will not allow you to go around the Activation, it will simply disable all Notifications.

It requires a simple phone call and an explanation of the circumstances. They will then give you a new 25 digit number to enter. It's no big deal and they handle several calls like yours daily. I suppose if you did it too frequently they might suspect you were up to no good but an occasional computer swap is reasonable.

Best regards.

I'm doing a fresh install of XP Home, SP1, and I have the SP2 CD as well.

Will XP SP2 still destroy your system if you install new hardware after installing the service pack?

Do you still need to do that software activation thing within 90 days where you have to register with Microsoft and they scan the hardware in your computer and if you don't XP SP2 destroys your system?

What do you do if you have no internet connection and want to install XP2?

Can you get it validated or activated over the phone or will it just destroy your system?

Cheers

I dont know what you mean by destroy your system. Ive installed sp2
on numerous machines without a problem. If you add new hardware you
may or may not have to reactivate. Xp is kind of flakey in how it discerns
new hardware. But even that is no big deal. If you have a internet connection
just reactivate. If not there is a phone number you can call that will

There is a product key, but when i attempt to open my word software it keeps on asking to type the key. All my attempts have failed, i have the computer for quite some time now and use the word but this is quite a nuisance. Any suggestions?

A:Product key activation

The sticker on your laptop will be the product key for your OEM version of Windows, not Microsoft Office Word.

If you don't have a product key for Word you will most likely have to buy another one before you can use it.

Is it a version that came pre-installed with your computer? If so, it will most likely be a trial version and you will definitely have to buy a product key from the Microsoft Store to carry on using Word.

Hello everyone,
I hope someone can help me. I just received the TRENDnet Tew-623PI today (its a wireless network adapter). I popped in the installation disc first as instructed in the manual. Right when it is about to finish installing, it prompts up this message: "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows Xp".

And below, the window gives me two options:
1) Continue anyway
2) Stop Installation

Windows recommend stopping installation. So, I picked the recommendation that Windows give. Then for some reason, it finishes installing (weird right?). Anyways, I opened up my computer, slide it into the PCI slot, screw it in tightly, and fire my computer back on.

After doing all that, the wireless cannot connect to my DSL modem. So, here I am, stuck in a pickle. Hopefully, someone can help me, as I would appreciate it a lot.

My computer specs are:

Windows Xp Service pack 2 32 Bit
Intel Duo Core 3.4 ghz
3.25 ram.
Wireless adapter that I am trying to run is: TRENDnet TEW-623PI

Hope that's enough information. Thank you again everyone for reading and helping out.

Hi.

I'm thinking about asking for WinXp from Santa, but I have a minor concern.
I am not currently in a position to connect my PC to the internet. I am using my brother's machine which is connected, but my own PC is sat in a box, waiting for me to move house.
As such, if I bought XP and installed it on my machine, the product activation would obviously not be possible.
So, what do I do?
Do I get it and wait til I've moved house (est. March 2002) and got myself connected before installing? Or do I install it, let the Prod Activation fail and then have to contact MS to get it running?

I am aware of the good and bad points of the OS, and MS assuming everyone is connected to the internet is certainly one of the bad points. Is there an alternative way to 'Activate'?

Thanks,
Gram

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, I don't have any physical product key for it, and if I got an email, I don't think it exists any more. I tried the Belarc Advisor tool, but the product key it gave me doesn't work. I get frequent pop ups asking for the key at inconvenient times, so I'm hoping there's some other way I can recover the key.

Thank you.

I had to have hp remotely access my computer to fix webcam. (before the 90 days of free support was up). I never received the product key/activation code for the cyberlink power dvd 14 media player and can not play dvd's on my laptop. When I called to ask for the code the techs refused to give me the product key so that I can use the software stating that it wasn't their software but I see you can download it from their web page. They can give me the code that I never received to begin with for $50. Does anyone know where I can get the product key to use the software?

I have installed Windows 7 onto a couple of work PCs. Valid licenses by the way. Both PCs show that Windows is activated, but there is the option to change the Product Key. Does this mean that the licenses aren't fully validated if this option is available?

Thanks,
DN

A:Activation / Change Product Key

You are ok, This is if you need to change it in th future for some reason.

Hi, everyone!!

I don know this question is sensitive , or will break the international law or not. Please forgive me to post at here.

This question is about the windows XP product activation. Before, i using windows XP home(having original CD) but now I already upgrade to WinXP Professional (having non-original CD means that burn from other CD). Here is the problem, the Windows XP Pro CD I have is not the original one , so I'm facing problem that the icons always appear to remind that only remain 60days to activate the product. And then, and also required access to internet for activation(very annoying). but useless... >>>show "invalid product key"

So I try to type the Home edtion's original product key, but still useless, and show that "invalid product key" (may be original product key was already used in XP home before I upgrade it to WinXP Pro, is me right?)

So what will happened to PC after the 60days already pass, unable to use WinXP ? Any ideas to activate it ?

A:Windows XP product activation......

Hi,

I am sorry to report to you that upgrading from WinXP Home with a legitimate disk and then upgrading to WinXP Pro with a copied (illegal) disk is not legal and does break the law. This can have legal ramifications.

Therefore, we are not able to assist you with any of these questions or to provide answers for an illegal operation on this forum. Thread Closed.

Hi!
A friend of mine bought a used computer and asked me to look at it and see if I could get passed this activation message for them.

'This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can logon. Please ask a computer administrator to activate Windows on this computer.'

I am not all that familiar with XP home edition as I still mostly use Windows 98 on my equipment. They didn't get any disks at all with this computer, just the computer mouse, monitor and keyboard. It is an older Compaq but that is about all I know about it so far.

Is there anybody out there that knows anything about getting around this?

Tad

A:Windows Product Activation

To quote the Windows XP user manual...

To help reduce software piracy, Windows XP uses the product activation system, which allows you to install Windows XP on only one computer.

You can activate your copy of Windows either:

During Setup

-or-

By clicking Start --> All Programs --> Activate Windows

If you wait to activate your software, you can still use Windows for 30 days. During this time, you'll be reminded periodically to activate windows.

At the beginning of 2010 I bought myself a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate. I can't remember precisely when I activated it but around March or April 2010. It was activated on a 32-bit machine.

I now want to buy myself a 64-bit machine. I've heard that after a certain period of time I can re-install onto a new PC but I don't know exactly what the allowed time period is. I'd like to contact Microsoft to find out my exact activation date.

Does anyone have a low cost telephone number for Microsoft in the UK? There seem to be loads of companies offering premium rate phone numbers for "Microsoft Support" but when you look a little deeper, they're nothing to do with Microsoft!!

The booklet that came with Win7 lists a couple of freephone numbers - but only for the US and Canada.

Also, what's the allowed time period for re-installation onto a new PC?

A:Product activation on a replacement PC

There is no time restriction.
Note, however, that
1) if it's an OEM copy of Windows, it cannot be transferred to a new machine. OEM Licenses are locked to the first motherboard on which they are activated

2) You will almost certainly have to activate by telephone.

Look in the Reading phone book (use Yell.com) for MS's usual UK contact details.
for Activation, the activation wizard will supply an 0800 number for you.

Does Spysweeper 3.5 use product activation?

The reason I ask is that I go from computer to computer and it seems about half or more of my work is removing spyware/adware. I'm looking for products that I can install, run to remove threats, then uninstall. Product activation would, of course, prevent this.

I already use Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware, and Microsoft AntiSpy; but, as all here know, none of the programs available, for pay or for free, will do a 100% removal. Even the combination of three or even four products will not do much more than 85% so the more ammunition in my arsenal, the better.

I recently bought a OEM Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64- Bit operating system, unfortunately I am unable to find any product key to conduct the installation on the DVD itself  or the packaging. I wonder where to obtain the key code or how to activate windows?
I am grateful for any advice!Sarah

Generic OEM? or did you purchase a Dell installation disk to reinstall the OS on an existing Dell computer that came with Windows 7?
If generic OEM, then it should have come with a product key.
If a Dell OEM disc, you should not need to enter a product key, but if you are prompted for one, then you will need to get the product key off the COA sticker on your computer.

A:Windows product activation

Hi Shawniej -
Error code 0x80004005
This problem may occur if a file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. This behavior occurs if one or both of the following conditions are true:
A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP.
A file that WPA requires is manually modified.
This is the explanation from Microsoft - Run a sfc / scannow check from Run box - Have your XP CD to place in the slot once the scan has started -
Also close all open programs and disable your Antivirus while doing this -

Thank You -

I'm running Linux on an Z240 workstation. I want to use the Windows license that came with this workstation to run Windows 7 in a virtual machine inside my Linux host OS. I no longer have the original contents of the hard drive. Unlike a notebook PC, there does not seem to be a sticker showing the Windows product key that I need for activation. I read there may be a Digital Product Key in the BIOS, but I have searched the menus without finding it. I had written down what I thought was the Windows Product Key before erasing the hard disk, but it turned out to be the Product ID instead. Any ideas?
