I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Windows 10 Home upgraded from Windows 8.1 could not see other Windows 10 Machines on my home network from Windows Explorer. It could see Windows 7 machines but not Windows 10. I tried various suggestion from this forum and others with no success.

While researching a problem with "Browser" service (running but with error message - Failed to read description ), a solution was to turn on a Windows feature "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support". After reboot, Suprise!! My computer now sees all other computers on the network, "Browser" service is deleted, and "Computer Browser" service was created.

My surmize is that "SMB" was an option in Windows 8 but not required and not loaded. Therefore when Microsoft upgraded my machine to Windows 10 they did not load "SMB" program.

"SMB" did not exist on Windows 7.

Hope this helps somebody

Ok peeps i need help. I just did a fresh install and when I loaded the motherboard apps and drivers it asked me if I wanted to setup a password, Stupid me said yes and I typed the password in, it restarted to continue and when it came back up it gave me this message in a seperate called "Logon message" "The system could could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed using the correct case." what I want is to completely get rid of this login altogether. Is that possible? Thanks ahead of time.

I have Windows 7, IE 8, 8gig RAM, 208gig Hard Disk Free Space.
When opening a Website I get the initial window OK. But when I attempt to open a window that has an Icon indicating next window, I try to double click that Icon...nothing happens. I have to Left click my mouse and initiate the command, Open with new Window. I do that and the new window does open the site.
However, I want to just double click the link Icon and have it automatically open the new window.

Is there some setting that I must correct to get the appropriate window to open when I click on the icon for the next window to open?

I certainly can go ahead and left click my mouse as it points to the link I want to open...but it is a little bit of time-wasting.
Any suggestions in how I can properly set the opening of windows with just a mouse click?

I can't use system restore because the window/box cuts off the tool buttons. This closed thread addresses the same problem.

Since I am new to the forum, I'm not sure where my problem should be posted. I am also not sure if it is a hardware or software related problem, but here it is.

Suddenly, when I try to print, the print properties dialog window does not appear when i click on the properties button. It tries to activate, but immediately reverts back to the print window. This occurs in both OpenOffice 4.1.1 and LibreOffice 4.3, both of which have previously worked fine for months. I often print to both sides of the page (echo print), but can only print on one side (default) since I cannot change the properties. The only thing I can recall that might have any bearing on the problem is that I had previously printed to a file - something I rarely do. I checked the settings and "print to file" is not selected. I am printing to a HP LaserJet Pro M1530 MFP series PCL6 printer and am using Windows 8.1 operating system. I have tried reinstalling both word processing programs and have reset the printer to default settings and updated.

If anyone can help with this problem, I would greatly appreciate your help.

A:Print properties dialog window does not appear

Printers can be very frustrating to say the least. When I've had printer problems in the past, this is what has worked for me:

1. Unplug the power to the printer
2. Wait about 30 seconds or so
3. Plug it in and let it go through it's initialization
4. Then try it again

If that doesn't work, try reloading the printer driver from the HP site. If it still doesn't work, try a system restore back to the last time the printer was working successfully. That's about all the tricks I know for printers. Hope it helps ...

Hi to everyone who reads this...

In Windows Explorer, in the navigation pane, I have some "favorite links", and when I use a dialog window, like "Open" or "Save As", those links are also visible.
No problems here.

But when I use IE8:IE7 and I have to save a dwnld to my disk there are only two links shown in that dialog window, instead of four like in Windows Explorer.

In Windows Explorer I have the following links:
(I've deleted/added some links manually)
- Desktop
- Computer
- * User Folder
- * and a link to my Data "D" partition --> Documents Folder, which I use to store dwnlds and stuff.

Now, I would appreciate it if somebody could tell me how I can add those two links with an (*) to the dialog window in IE8/IE7?

Thanks in advance for your time and advice,
best regards Carlo.

A:Favorite links in IE8 dialog window

In IE8, click on File / Save As. There will be two sections on the left. One at the top for favorites and one at the bottom for folders. To add something to the Favorites list, just go to the Folders list and find the folder you want (in your case, first the User Folder and then the D: Drive Documents Folder - one at a time). Then click on it and hold the button down and drag it from the folders list to a blank area (an area between other favorites - where you want it to be since that's where it will henceforth appear) on the favorites list and release the button. It should have a small popup window indicating you are adding a favorite - if it brings up a large do you want to merge dialog box cancel it - you released on a favorite link instead of between them and you do NOT want to merge. That new location should now be included in the favorites list. I just did it for my Downloads folder and it worked like a charm.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi to everyone who reads this.

I have a small problem regarding IE8.
When I dwnld a file I can specify the pad to were the file must be placed, then the actual dwnld starts, and afterwards I can choose between "Run" or "Open Folder".

Then I normally choose for Open Folder, and thats when my problem occurs.
What happens is; when I click the Open Folder button the dialoog window closes and nothing happens. It's supposed to open the folder I selected, but it doesn't.

Does anyone have a bright idea on how solve this issue?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for your answer.

I may not be calling it the correct thing but it's the window you bring up with hitting CTL ALT & Delete when you want to turn off a program that has lagged or for whatever purpose. I've done this for years on multiple computers and use to be able to do it on this Acer Aspire but now the window comes up but then pops off before I can even get a clear look at it - there and gone in a half-second. Any solution for this? It's been happening for months and I have no other problems.

While I'm on programs running -- Is there any type of downloadable program that will show you what programs are running that you don't use or don't need to have running? It seems that in Windows 98, the description of the folders was much clearer and concise and I could identify which programs I didn't need to be running. Now, the way they are written - I can't decipher what is what. I know there has to be stuff in there I don't need. Any suggestions??

Thanks for any answer to either problem!!

Helloes!
I have been having an issue with Win 7 for quite some time with this popup dialog box appearing saying there is "No disk". I am using a non-english version so I am not sure how it looks in english sorry.

It appears as an error message about every 5-10 minutes while the computer is idle.

Some people suggest this occurs because an USB drive has been removed without using the secure removal option in the tray icons.. But I always do it with secure removal. Also, there is an USB stick connected right now. Still t keeps appearing.

I have noticed it starts appearing during and after using MS Excel 2007, but not sure if it occurs while usimg other programs.

Would really appreciate help in removing this problem.

Hi All,
From one day to the other, my WinXP SP2 box fails to show the logon dialog window on boot (I've always used classic logon).

So... power on machine, no errors, WinXP logo, no errors, WinXP logo disappears and the blue background appears, mouse cursor appears, but the logon dialog windows does NOT appear. Machine is still responsing to mouse movement etc. No further HDD activity.

[edit: exact same thing happens when trying last known good config. When trying safe mode, black screen appears with the white safe-mode text in the corners of the screen, but nothing else happens].

There is one MSKB article which seems to discribe this issue - solution was to re-extract kernel32.dll - as I expected, this doesn't do anything and just crashes the machine.
Tried extracting the winlogon.exe but makes no difference.

Did a repair-installation, no difference.

I've had this problem once before, ~2 months ago, but after clearing the CMOS and restoring BIOS setup defaults, it worked fine again. Which I thought was weird. Seems like that was just a co-incidence because this time around, that doesn't help at all.

Anybody ever seen this before?
Anybody know what files i could try re-extracting from the WinXP disc?
Or think I'm looking at a full re-install? Yuck.

Thanks in advance,
F4V.

In the past it worked fine but over the last few weeks it?s been under stuff about 2/3 of the time
And it?s getting worse nearly every time I want something from it I have to minimize every window on my screen to get at it

And over the last week or so iv noticed similar problems with windows Media player
It?s set to ?Always show now playing on top?
It works for a while but as I work with other windows it will keep going under them from time to time

My bottom task bar is working fine though always on top as it?s meant to be
I haven?t a clue what could be causing this problem but it?s really starting to annoy me

Hi, I am trying to learn to program in C.
I made my first little program and compiled it. When I double click on it, an MS-DOS prompt opens then shuts immediately. It is up just long enough to see the output of the program, so I know it's working.

The C programming tutorial I'm using says the MS-DOS screen should stay open.

I copied the text for the program file directly from the tutorial so it's not a problem with the program.

I am using XP SP2.

I did a google search and found: http://forums.scotsnewsletter.com/lo...php/t1828.html
but it wasn't much help.

How do I get the MS-DOS window to remain open after the program runs?

Hello,

I have two questions that are not critical to the operation of my system but has been driving me crazy in an effort to research them to no avail. The only thing that I am pretty sure of is that it is a problem with the registry.

When I right click on a folder and then click properties, the dialog window comes up with 3 extra tabs. This happens for every folder on my computer. The extra tabs are the same tabs as the My Documents folder shortcut (Target, General, and Sharing) and the target window is C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents. This results in every folder having an extra General and Sharing tab and a Target tab with the My Documents target in it. Interestingly enough, the virtual folder that is listed in explorer for My Documents has only 3 tabs but the My Documents folder inside Documents and Settings\Owner (the actual folder itself) has the extra tabs just like every other folder.

A possibly connected problem is that the Add/Remove section of the Control Panel no longer has the install dates or useage level for most programs. The dates are in the HKLM uninstall registry keys but they are not being read for some reason.

I have been installing and uninstalling a lot of programs (mostly antivirus, antispyware, firewall, and utility programs) in an effort to clean up and speed up my computer and test a lot of different applications. This effort has been dramatically successful however I am left with these two minor but annoying is... Read more

Top open window does not stay active
I have posted this problem at four forums and no one has an answer. It is common knowledge to most that when opening multiple windows the top one should stay active, focused. Well that is not the case on this PC as of about two months ago.

As soon as I open a second window it is not active. I am required to click the page to make it active. THis should not be happening. I have another Compaq right next to this one and do not have that behavior. Sure wish I could find out the cause of this. Thanks for any suggestions.

A:Top open window does not stay active

Hi needtolearn,

That's an unusual and interesting problem. Not surprising you haven't found a solution yet. That said, why don't you try some stuff.

Here's what I would try.

Do a system restore back to before the problem began, if you have a restore that far back.

See if it happens in the Safe Mode. If not, it is probably something that
that is loading during a normal boot and can be found by going to msconfig and unchecking everything (even your virus and malware applications, but stay off the internet while testing). If that stops the problem, selectively recheck the items until the culprit is found. Again, don't go on the internet until you have re-enabled your virus and malware programs.

Check the startup folder in Start>Programs and see if there is something there that is starting up that might be the problem. You can copy those shortcuts to an adjacent folder to stop them from loading at boot time. Place them back as needed.

Do some malware and virus scanning. Use two or more scanners as some pick up items that the others miss. You can download some free scanner programs here:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html

Hope one of these will help,
Mack1

I have posted this problem at four forums and no one has an answer. It is common knowledge to most that when opening multiple windows the top one should stay active, focused. Well that is not the case on this PC as of about two months ago.

As soon as I open a second window it is not active. I am required to click the page to make it active. THis should not be happening. I have another Compaq right next to this one and do not have that behavior. Sure wish I could find out the cause of this. Thanks for any suggestions.

Edit: I might add the same behavior happens with Firefox. Come on people "Put your thinking caps on". Am I not stating the problem clear enough to evoke a response? Right now I don't know how to explain it any clearer.

I don't know if this problem has been posted before, but I really need help with this.

I am running Windows 7 on a desktop, and not every but most of the time when I minimize a window and open up another the previous window opens back up and on top of the current window. It is very frustrating and I never had that problem till a couple of months ago I believe, I can't recall how long it has been exactly.

Any help would be appreciated!

No matter what application I'm using, or what window I have opened, the window will not stay "active"...The window title box keeps changing to the "inactive window" gray and I have to continually reactivate whatever I'm working on. It's actually deactivating every couple of seconds and making this simple typing a real chore!
I have already tried my antivirus and spyware, which did not fix problem. Also went into msconfig and tweaked with start up programs, also did not fix problem. Did the ease of access mouse configure and making window not arrange automatically, again not fixed.
oh and when i type it disconnects my internet.
please help, i can not play games or videos they just keep minimizing and typing is a frickin pain.

A:[QUESTION] Can't upload from popup file explorer dialog window

Hi might help if you post a screenshot of what you're trying to do..
I'm guessing you're using a particular browser, and on a particular site, and trying to upload sthg to that site, but when you click the 'upload' button (or whatever it's called) you don't get a browse dialogue.

For example, when you click the 'Insert Image' button (above) to post your screenshot, do you see a browse dialogue when you click 'Browse' on the window that is displayed?

When I go select the Insert | Picture menu when editing HTML mail in Outlook 2003 (patched to SP3, running on XP Home), I no longer get the Insert Picture dialog box that allows me to browse for an image. Instead I get a blank untitled window appear.

I have tried repairing and completely reinstalling Outlook 2003 but that doesn't help and don't really know what to try next. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and offer a possible cure?

Thanks,

Graham

Greetings I'm working on a customer's HP All-In-One computer with Win7SP1, giving it a "tune-up". The first problem I came across was that Windows Update wasn't working and the last update had been in April. For some reason the service had been disabled, so I re-enabled it. Something like 30 updates mostly failed during restart, but after trying a couple of times they finally took.

I then wanted to run "sfc /scannow" via the command-prompt shortcut under Accessories, as an admin. The CP window opens and instantly closes again. I thought, "That's odd," and booted to Safe Mode. Same problem. So I booted to Safe Mode w/CP, and same thing, the computer boots to Safe Mode, the CP window opens and closes instantly.

Other things I've tried:
-Since I can't run "sfc", I removed the drive and connected to my Win7 computer via USB and ran sfc with the switches for off-boot drive/dir. It ran successfully and said it repaired some errors but not all. It says that for every computer I've ever run it on.

-Virus Scans: Computer had MS Security Essentials, so did full scan and it found like 3-4 viruses (mostly java based). Then installed Malwarebytes and it found 2-3 more and cleaned them. I then ran MRT(Malicious SW Removal Tool) and it found 1 more virus. I then uninstalled MS SE and installed Avast!, and its scan found 1 more. It then did a pre-boot scan and everything was clean. Finally

-Tried adding the /k switch (to force CP window to stay o... Read more

A:Command prompt window won't stay open

Never run registry cleaners, not even CCleaner's. They can cause massive issues and more likely brick your PC.

I have a feeling that the virus has blocked the command prompt from opening. I would advise you make sure your PC is clean before we do any work:

Please read all of the following instructions found here: NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

After reading all of the instructions found above post the required logs in a new thread: Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help - Tech Support Forum

Please note that the virus team is very busy and will get to you in due time. If you do not get a reply within 72 hours then you may bump the post.

Do not post any logs here!

I have Vista Home and after Service Pack 1 uploaded, the windows in one of the programs I use daily would not longer stay the same instead each time they get longer. And then I have to shrink them down so I can get to all the features. This had happened before but I found some way to fix it and get the windows to stay the same size but I can't remember what I did. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it as it's driving me crazy.

A:window sizes wont stay in place

Hello LeLe, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Normally you would resize the window how you want it, then close it. Vista remembers the folder view settings for the window for how it was last closed.

If that does not work for you, then you can use the download in METHOD TWO of the tutorial below to reset the folder views to have Vista remember again using the technique above.

Windows Explorer Folder View settings

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello,
I am searching a long time now for a program to make Vista x64 windows stay "always on top" (float above other windows). There was a program called PowerMenu that was perfect for this but sadly it is abandoned and does not work for x64 apps.

I am looking for something that adds a hotkey, tray icon or rightclick menu to any window that you can use to force it to stay on top.

does anyone know of something like this?
thank you for any tips

My Media Center on Vista Premium will not stay as the top window. I have it
set up under the general settings to remain on top, but it always goes behind
the other windows when I am using it. This worked ok before though, but now
it is not working right.

What can I do to fix this since the box is already checked for the window to
stay on top? I am trying to watch TV/movie on the computer while doing other
things, but the screen keeps disappearing behind the other windows I am
working on for some reason.

Thanks.
