Office 2007 Compatibility Pack Won't Install

Q: Office 2007 Compatibility Pack Won't Install

I am trying to install the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. I have downloaded FileFormatConverters.exe, but when I run it it gets as far as the license screen, then aborts after I accept the license and click Continue. The error message gives no info, just "The installation of this package failed."

The computer is a Compaq Presario V3000 laptop running Windows XP Home SP3, Office 2003 SP3. It is up to date on Windows Updates.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

When I try to open a 2007 Word or Excel document I recieve as an attachment in Outlook 2003, I get the following message:
"This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". Office 2007 compatibility pack was installed and it still did not work.

I then uninstalled Office 2003, uninstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack and then I ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. I updated my OS (currently has Windows XP SP3) with all updates, reinstalled Office 2003, installed Office 2003 SP 3 and then reinstalled the Office 2007 compatibility pack.

I still get the same message when I try to open an Office 2007 attachment in Outlook 2003.

OS is Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Office 2003 SP 3 fully updated

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any hel on this issue.

My laptop came preinstalled with the 2007 compatibility pack. I installed Office 2010 the day I bought the laptop. Have been running for many months and never noticed this: the default application to open docx files in the Microsoft Open XML Converter. The default for doc files is Microsoft Word. The only version of Word I have on my computer is 2010. If I remember correctly, the laptop came with a 2007 trial version but I deleted that - I still have a link to "reinstall MS Office trial." Whenever I click on a docx file, it opens in Word. I'm running Win 7 64-bit Home Premium but the 32-bit version of Office 2010.

Here's the strange part: if I set Word as the default application for opening docx files, I lose the Word icon and get what I believe is the Wordpad icon (the standard sheet of paper with corner turned over and lines on it) as my icon for docx files. The registry tells me that the defaulticon for docx files is Wordpad.exe. The icon for doc files is still the Word icon. Same thing happens if I uninstall the compatibility pack, which of course I don't even need, and then I also lose my Excel icon and am "iconless" for Excel files. If I try to set the default icon in the registry to the Word icon, I get a tiny Word icon in lieu of the normal Word icon.

I discovered all this by following this advice for being able to open Word docs stored on Microsoft's Skydrive:

I am not using 2007 office system. I use Microsoft works and WordPad. Can I safely remove the Compatibility Pack(and free all 173 MB HD space it occupies)? Also, what is Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer? Am I using it?

A:Compatibility pack for 2007 office system

The Power Point Viewer allows you to view PowerPoint shows. I would keep that because you might get PP files from your friends thru the mail - like this one. But for this one you need no PP Viewer because it is an uploaded file.

I am not sure what the compatibility pack is. I would investigate some more before deleting it. 173 MBs is peanuts.

I need help deleting traces of Office 2007 32-bit form my Win7 system. The problem is I had Office 2007 installed a while back and uninstalled it when the trial period run out. I just downloaded the 2013 trial 64-bit since my system is a 64-bit system and kept receiving this error message, "We can't install the 64-bit version of Office because we found the following 32-bit programs on you pc"

Now, I've deleted all folders having anything to do with Office both in x86 and Programs files folders as well as registry entries bearing the same name.

Gone through my update history and uninstalled all Office 32bit compatibility packs, run uninstall from control panel and found no Office remnants to be uninstalled.

Used MS.s fixIt and no Office programs showed up, Totally at a lost here guys.

Any help would greatly appreciated.

Thanx

A:Not Able to install ms office 2007 into Windows XP Professional server pack 2

Hello, and welcome to Bleeping Computer. Firstly you should definitely have Service Pack 3 installed for Windows XP. And speaking of service packs, you're not mistakenly using a Service Pack for MS Office as your source media are you? The statement regarding no products affected by this package sounds like an error message produced by a Service Pack that has not found installed software to update.

Mine are set to open .xlxs files with the Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office System and the other user's is set to open with Microsoft Excel 2003. I have a pretty good feeling that if I change the Default Programs for his to open with Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office System, everything will work as it should.

So when I go to change his Default Programs, it opens the Windows Explorer screen and asks me what program I want to open .xlxs files with and I can't find Compatibility Pack for 2007 Office System anywhere. Where does this install to so that I can reference it?

No, it can open a file that is from office 2007 and save them, but will save new files as 2003 formats.

Greetings,

For those of you who use a legacy version of Microsoft Office (97-2003) either because you are happy with the version you have, can't afford an upgrade to a modern version of MS Office (2007+) or find the new modern MS Office too confusing to use, you should install the free MS Compatibility Converter from MS Office. This allows you to open up files created with newer versions of MS Office.

What is excellent is that MS is still releasing updates to Office as long as you have the converter installed along with a legacy version of Office installed. I have Office 2003 with the compatibility converter, and last month got an update for Office 2010. (Running Windows 7.)

Before you install the MS Compatibility Converter:

Go to Microsoft Update to get all patches for your computer marked "Critical" or "Important"
You will than need to manually install the latest service packs for your version of legacy office through Office updates. Only Office 2007-2010 updates will come through automatically through Windows Update.

Here is a link to the Download of Office 2003 SP-3 from MS: (Review MS Download and Install Instructions.)

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8

If you are running Office 2003 and don't already have it, get Office 2003 SP-3 here. (You can check first by opening up any MS Office Program. Click on "Help" and "About." if it says SP-3, you don't need to download the service pack. If ... Read more

Okay, here's my situation:My mom has a genuine copy of Microsoft Office Student and Home 2007 (includes Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). When I previously had Vista on my laptop, I installed Office onto it (needed it for school). Partitioned off and used Windows 7 RC1, and loved it. Went to Windows 7 RTM (available from my college's MSDN AA) and got rid of the Vista. I then installed Office onto the Windows 7 os. Later, my mom got a new laptop and it came with a 60-day trial of Office. I'm pretty sure she activated the full version using her product key, but I'm not positive. Here's the problem:I'm going to get a netbook when I get back to school (needed for carrying around all day instead of my heavy laptop). I need to put Office on it as well. Also, I was going to do a clean install of Windows 7 on my current laptop to resolve some unimportant bugs and just have a generally cleaner system. However, looking through the EULA of Office revealed this:1. OVERVIEW. These license terms permit installation and use of a copy of the software on three devices, along with other rights, all as described below.2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to a device. That device is a "licensed device".?? A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.I was hoping "3 PC license" meant 3 sets of hardware (i.e. three separate computers). tedious. Be sure to print the instructions off and make notes as you go.
Re-install worked perfectly. Make sure you have a valid office 2007 disk

Try this:

To use: Download the xp_winupd_netpolicy.vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). In Windows Explorer, locate the script you just downloaded and double click it. The script will modify the System Registry and notify you when its done. This script can be viewed in Notepad or any text editor, as to the specific function of the script and how it works.

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

I had a run-in with MS Office 2007 that ended up (my bad I'm sure) necessitating a repair install of Windows 7 (64 bit) after a complete uninstall of Office. The Windows repair went well with the exception of a couple of drivers; easily adjusted.

Then I did a clean install of Office 2007. It sort of went well. Except that every time I try to do something with it (like accessing Visual Basic to put my macros back in), it's telling me - incessantly - that files don't have sufficient permission blah, blah. Well, I'm setting the permissions but it's over and over and feels like every file in "Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/..." needs permission attention.

Is there ANY way to avoid doing this over and over and over and...? And could I have avoided this by setting something different in one of the installs?

Sigh.

Thanks as always for the help.

The PC Main Disk crashed, and over the pain to do the full install of everything,
I discovered that I was stuck with an Italian Office !
DUH !

Now they came back and offered a good solution ... full download of the older Office version ... any language.

Hope it will help some other People out there !

I found this official link 1 hour ago after searching for 2 years.

I own an Office 2007 Student Pack in Italian - but I'm used to excel formulas in English,
and to have all Office in English. The interface being in Italian it's a pain.

While working through patching our servers, there are several servers that MBSA is reporting that patches are missing:
MS13-002  Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2687499)
MS11-073  Security Updates for Microsoft Office 2007 System (KB2584063)
2526310  Microsoft Office Access Runtime and Data Connectivity 2007 Service Pace 3
The servers are running Windows 2012 R2 and were patched this week with the current May, 2018 patches.

I downloaded the items to WSUS.  WSUS reports that 0 computers need these.

Any idea why these are showing up and/or how to ignore them?
Thanks

hello guys,
I want to try the trial version of Office 2010 but I got a problem in installing it on my Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2. It says "The installation of this package failed". I already uninstalled my previous Office program to avoid conflicts. Do I need to go back to Vista with SP1? Please help!

A:How do I install Office 2010 trial to Windows Vista with service pack 2?

Try in safe mode
Try with firewall and Anti Virus off.

Hi. I am not able to install office 2007 from the disc I purchased from microsoft and am not sure this is a disc problem.

When I load the disc into the drive, the green indicator light comes on, the drive weirs once, and then stops. If I search for the disc through computers> D drive> open, the file is blank. If I try to run it through run> d://, I get a message saying to insert a disc in the drive.

I can play a music CD on the drive, but it will not run by itself, I had to go into media player to run it. If I go into computers> D drive> open, I get a message saying "this file does not have a program associated with it. for performing this action create an association in the folder options control panel" (and I have no idea how to do this...).

the last time my d drive worked properly was yesterday when I uploaded a picture from my personal cd to a website.

I've tried running winsock fix as well and just scanned my computer yesterday for spyware and viruses and am clean.

I have windows XP os and have no idea what my d drive is.

would appreciate any help,
db

A:can't install office 2007

Do you have access to a different PC to test the disk in?
Or any other program disk to test the drive?

I have an office professional 2007 trial which I can not uninstall. I have tried restore points also. It will not uninstall and will not open my 2003 docs or excel

I tried to download a new Trial over it and got message "controller could not install, check log records"

I see on line in chat rooms that this has happened often, but no help from Microsoft on what to do.

Any thoughts out there? thanks.
