Continuous duplicate email problem

Q: Continuous duplicate email problem

This is my first post to this site which looks like a great resource!

A friend recently sent a response to an email I'd sent her which included several embedded photos. Her email included lots of 'goobledegook' (random letters and numbers) and the photos had been deleted. I also received 30 duplicate emails that only contained the goobledook. Each email had a different number at the end of the subject line but was posted at the same time. After that I've received about 12 copies of this same email each time I open Outlook. I've done a scan of Program Files using ESET Smart Security but nothing was found. I'm running Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2007.

My friend let me know that something similar has happened before and that she has problems every time she tries to send an attachment.

Any suggestions about how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!

many thanks

Preferred Solution: Continuous duplicate email problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Continuous duplicate email problem

A common cause of this is a bad message on the server that Outlook is unable to download properly. When it gets to that message it stops downloading and never continues to the step where it deletes the downloaded messages from the server. The next time you try to download, those same messages are still on the server and they get downloaded again.

Login to webmail and delete all the messages that have been getting downloaded repeatedly, and delete the next message after them, which is likely to be the one that's causing the failure. Then try downloading with Outlook again.

I keep getting duplicate emails,Ive reinstalled windows 7 and reinstalled Thunderbird as well but it is still doing it? I read on the knowledge database help section on Thunderbird that imap is used by default instead of pop which is what I originally set it up with.I'm using a different ISP now and still have the same problem. It must be coming from an email server but I don't know how to contact them or configure it? I'm at a complete loss on what to do about it now?

A:Duplicate email problem

The info in the link below describes several scenarios of why emails are duplicated.
Email Troubleshooting - Duplicate Emails
I think this one applies to you because you receive duplicates of every email.

I get multiple copies of every email.
Likely cause: You have multiple forwarders set up. Let's say person A is getting the double copies. Perhaps emails to B forward to A and C, while emails to C also forward to A. So A is getting the emails from both B and C.

2 - i seem to have lost my Outlook Express subfolders is there a way to reveal them if possible.

Hi Walterose

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Importing will do that, keep adding and adding with each subsequent Import performed.
I usually try an Import using a new Identity first to see what results I can expect, "NOW you tell me", you say

This is what I have found so far that relates to duplicate messages:
Not free though.

Subfolders created under the Inbox or other folders?
Do you have Outlook Express configured to show all folders?
Tools > Options > General tab
place a checkmark in: Automatically display folders with unread messages
Close Outlook Express, then restart, subfolders should be showing if they contain unread messages.

Do you have Subfolders at all?

You can also check the directory where your Store Folder is kept and see if you can locate the names of the folders that appear to be missing.
In Outlook Express
Tools > Options > Maintenance tab
click the Store Folder button to see the path where the Identity keeps its .dbx files.
Close Outlook Express.
Using Windows Explorer, navigate to that directory and search for those folders.

Or run a Search
key in:
and look through the Search results for your missing folders.

If you locate the missing folders and they are still not showing in Outlook Exp... Read more

One of my users is having problems with email server timeouts and duplicate email. I'm assuming the two problems are realted. It started after he returned from a long vacation. I cleaned several virus's from hundreds of files, installed and implemented SpyBot to take care of adware and put AVG on his system.

Server timeouts occur every time he tries to get his email, (OE). Some messages are being duplicated a dozen or more times. His ISP says they can't help and the problem must be at his end.

I found a thread here that talks about a corrupted Pop3uidl.dbx file but it is a very old thread(2001), and I can't find that filename on my system.

I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

I use windows Live Mail, wife uses XP. Many in my vomputer club use XP, Vista,win7 as I do.

I have been accused of forwarding messages to a group of people, one of which claimed she got over 50 of them. Another friend has been accused of sending a message to two people that claimed to receive many copies. In on case my wife got a message with overa full page of the same message and suddenly they started deleting dwon to one message

In all the cases mentioned the sent message total showed just one message. I have searched the web for possible reason for this whithout a clear possible cause. In one case I got a reply for Outlook and Outlook Express that was to protect the person receiving the duplicate copies but nothing about settings that would prevent the action.

Does anyone have any ideas??? Pleae ignor missplelled words I slept during spelling during growing up.

A:duplicate email messages, lots of them

One common cause of repeated sends that can be traced back to your actual mail program is possibly anti-malware tools that are trying to scan outgoing email, or otherwise interfere with the proper operation of the mail program. It's a common cause of repeated (or failed) downloads of email, and when the feature is enabled to scan sent mail, it can interfere there as well.

Depending on the type of interference, the email program responds by saying "well, that didn't work, I'll try to send it again" - and again, and again.

The solution here is pretty simple: locate that feature in your anti-malware or security suite, and turn it off. You may need to close and restart your email program, or even reboot your machine for the change to take effect.

Another possibility is that the Sent folder has a size limit. Let's say there's a 2GB limit for all saved Sent emails. Once that limit is reached weird things can happen. If there are a lot of emails with photo attachments, etc in the Sent folder, it wouldn't be all that hard to reach the mail box limit. Try creating a new folder. Call it whatever you want; maybe something like "SentArchive", or "OldSenrMail" and move all the messages in your Sent folder to the new folder. That should a) retain all your sent messages should you need to refer to them, and b) empty the Sent folder so the mail box limit isn't a factor.

Another possibility is that your email account has been compromised. This art... Read more

A:Duplicate & Triplicate Email msgs-Why?

You probably have a corrupt POP3UIDL.DBX file.

Close OE and delete that file (search for it on hard drive).

It will be recreated when you re-open OE.

However BE VERY CAREFUL, there can be bad things happen if you do this, so make sure you read up about it first.

I am not takin responsibility for what might happen, but this worked on my machine. There are also special instructions for hotmail users.

I have Microsoft Outlook 2003 on a few computers. It appears that they get their emails from a local server which is defined as the MS Exchange Server. (Box ticked for Use Cached Exchange Mode). Outlook is then configure with my username to pull my emails of the server (i guess...). I get an email to my company email from an external source (not company email) that is CC to another company email address, and I will get a duplicate email in my inbox. If it is CC to 2 people I will get 2 duplicates (3 messages in total) This leads me to believe that outlook is not configured to pull the right emails from the server right? However, when receiving an email from an internal source (company email) and it is CC to another compnay member, I only get 1 copy. When dealing with 1 to 1 emails, everything works fine. Any ideas?

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

I maintain a basic database in Excel 2000 and use Word 2000 to do an email merge. There are about 130 records on the list and the emails go to my outbox in my earthlink account. The first time I did it, I merged all records at one time and everyone received the same email twice. The second time I did it, I merged about 20-30 at a time, in different batches, but it still duplicated everyone. Any suggestions on what's going on and then how I can fix it/create a work-around. I have computer 1 with Office 365 Outlook - with email account. If I have a second computer and copy the .pst file from one computer to the other, I know that when I open Outlook all the existing emails will be there, calendar, etc. But if I have Outlook set to leave messages on the server, will the old messages be downloaded causing duplicates? I know that Outlook keeps an ID record of emails that are downloaded - but is this kept within the *pst file? If so then it should work that I can copy the *pst file and carry on without duplicates. I can understand that if I created a new blank account with nothing in it, then the old files would download...but will this still happen if I just copy & paste the email *pst account file across (keeping the name the same) - same Office 365....

I've been posting on here a little while. I Recently just reformatted the hard drive on my computer and installed ubuntu because my computer was freezing/not loading into windows. I thought I had fixed it with the reinstall, but my computer just froze again, so I guess not.

I've run scandisk, I've run memtest. Nothing seems to be wrong with it. It's got to be some hardware problem.

*note, I just ran memtest again, and the athlon 64 is testing, the chipset, AMD 8000 reads (ECC: Disabled). Not sure if that means anything.*

How can I figure out what it is and fix it? Any suggestions very welcome.

Was wondering if I can get some help...
Just went to Fry's today to pick up some parts to upgrade my current computer. Got:
ECS PT800CE-A motherboard
Intel 3.2 gHz Prescott CPU
Kingston 512 MB PC3200 DDR400 memory
Antec 350W power supply

Added the above to my system, with Gainward Ti4200 card

Reset the CMOS, then powered it up. The screen first shows the AGP card powering up, and then I get the screen for the memory testing. I can get through that, with the memory testing ok, and it says "intel 3.2mHz CPU with Hyperthreading technology detected." Unfortunately, from that point, it automatically rebooted back to the vga loading screen. It does this cycle endlessly. If I press <Del> during the memory check, it cancels the memory check, then skips directly to the reboot. I've tried disconnecting everything and pulling out all the nonessential cards, but it doesn't seem to change a thing. It doesn't look like the mobo is accessing the bios at all-no beeps, no accessing of the floppy drive. Anyone else run across this? Only thing I can think of is maybe a memory incompatibility?? But the memory test passed without problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, I am not sure if I am posting in the right place, but I have an annoying problem with my CIS that I have not been able to solve. The computer (printer?) thinks the cartridges are empty even though they are full. I have removed the CIS cartridges, cleaned all the visible air that was in them when I got it, and put them back into the printer. Sometimes the ink levels restore to full, but most of the time they don't. With the CIS the cartridges should appear full all the time, right? Mine begin to register declining ink levels after printing about 75 full-color pages.

I am getting frustrated, but more importantly, my clients are not getting the books they ordered. Can anyone help me?

Okay, I've searched this board briefly and found a few similar problems, but nothing exactly the same so here's my problem.

So I turn on the computer running Windows XP Pro SP2 when I wake up in the morning on Saturday and I get to the log in screen. After I select my account, the computer begins loading up all my stuff and then all of a sudden reboots. When I log in again, it does the same thing. I ask my wife what's going on and she said that rebooted once by itself the night before. At this point, I can't get the computer on long enough to do anything before it reboots. Occasionally, during the reboot, I will get to a screen that says that chkdsk has to verify the consistency of my drive... or something like that. I also try booting up in Safe Mode, but the computer gets hung up at mup.sys and after a while, starts a reboot again.

I haven't installed anything new recently and as far as I know, there haven't been any updates, but I do have the Windows update set to automatic. I have the Yahoo anti-spy and anti-virus programs on and I run Adware and Spybot about once a month.

I keep trying to boot up the computer and a two times, I was able to get on the computer long enough to hit a restore point, however, none of them fixed the problem. When I sign onto some of the other accounts, the computer boots fine and is stable, but the minute I try to launch an IE window or copy something from the hard-drive, it reboots.

I've been running Raid 0 with 2x Maxtor 160GB HDs. I'm pretty sure it failed on me. Here's the story of what happened below.

Chapter 1: Corruption

On Wednesday night my computer basically froze on me so I manually reset it. But everytime it got to the windows logo screen with the scrolling line at the bottom it would restart again. So it was stuck in a continuous restart loop. I tried going to safe mode it would restart there too, it wouldn't load previous settings that worked also. So I decided to google this problem and came across some solutions that would have me extract a new copy of the kernel32.dll from the XP disk using the recovery console. So I get to the console (after desperately looking for a floopy drive for the raid driver) but it would give me a blue screen.
ntfs.sys stop: 024 error, which basically says that my ntfs is corrupted, I looked into that a bit and it seems that the most likely reason is that my HD is dying on me and corrupted the system.

After you read this if you have any suggestions pls let me know. If not read below.

Chapter 2: The New OS

After many hours of trying to get my computer back up. I decided to install the new SATA HD I bought a couple months ago. I installed Windows onto it and everything works perfectly fine. So I basically know its the raid thats the problem. So I plugged the raid back in and windows first wanted to scan the system files on the raid. Hi Geno, Lets see you said you could boot it in safe mode correct? Ok try booting up in safe mode and lets see if we can find what caused this problem. Heres a link that will explain how to veiw the event viewer.

Im hoping that from there we will be able to see what we need to do.
Let me know what you find.

Alright all i need some help.

Customer brought computer in because she couldn't get it to boot into normal mode. But she could in safe mode. I went and got the computer and brought it back to the shop. I took the HD out and plugged it in to another machine to back up all the data on the HD. After that was done i plugged it back into the machine and i couldn't get it to boot in Safe Mode or normal mode. So i tried to run a repair from the CD. Everything was going as usual when check disk all of the sudden appeared and started running. I let it do it's thing and after it was done the machine restarted and stated to boot. Once it got to the loading Windows screen it started to run check disk all of the sudden. Weird. Looking for help.

Where do i look in the BIOS for the SPECS?

P.S. I ran GW scan and MEM-Test and they both passed

A:Continuous Check Disk Problem

Is it able to boot into the OS after running chkdisk? Or is it continually running chkdisk, rebooting, running chkdisk,...?

Following a malware attack, my webcam software now continually iterates the screen display whenever the webcam device is selected. It seems to happen on any webcam software. Everything else seems OK.

A:Webcam Continuous Iteration Problem

I am not sure exactly what you mean by iterate, but have some thoughts.

Do your problems occur within any particular programs?

Have you possibly reverted your system to an earlier date, possibly before the introduction of any software?

Have you tried to update / or reload the webcam software.

What makes you think that it may have been a malware attack?
Many people think of this first, but often this is not the case.

Please provide additional details of your system, as well as events surrounding the issue.

I own a Gateway eMachines computer, and recently, when we went to restart it by pressing the button in the middle, it restarted, but then it flashed to a blue screen for a second and then immediately went back into the reboot mode. We have tried to start it in Safe Mode and any of the modes ('Since Your Settings that last worked'), etc., but nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to solve this problem? And, as a side note, there is no way to access Windows at all. Thanks

Hi and Welcome to TSF

I moved your reply as we recommend everyone have their own thread. It is much easier to keep everyone on the same page

So you are having an issue with the system rebooting? At what point in the bootup sequence is it rebooting? have you tried another power supply unit that meets your computer specifications?

I inadvertently logged in with 'continuous sign in' checked (normally I uncheck it). Now I can only access one of my gmail accounts, because the system automatically brings up the username for one account.

Does anyone know how I can eliminate this problem. Optimally, having got rid of the problem, I would much rather not have to uncheck this box every time I log into this particular google account.

Any help would be appreciated.

We are experiencing a problem in our LAN.

Yesterday, suddently, all the PCs on the LAN reported a duplicate IP problem. This was happening everytime a client PC was trying to logon to the network. A dialog box was displayed that notified the user that the PC's IP was used by another PC.

The problem was affecting all PCs thus I thought that it might be a network switch problem.

I switched off the main switch for 2 minutes and then I switched it on, again. This solved the problem but after 4 hours the problem occured again and we had to switch it off and on again.

Today, we did not experience the problem but I would like to ask if someone knows the root cause of such incidents.

Is it the switch, or PC network card?

Also, are there any equipment (hardware / software) tools that I can use in order to determine the root cause of the problem?

Thank you in advance.

A:Duplicate IP problem in LAN

do you have a DNS server on your network to resolve user names to IP allocation.

We had the same problem in a local office where after 20 people had logged on we started get those errors - it turned out to be two servers with overlapping IP address ranges causing the problem - this went on a few days and 1 person was even told to reload there software by the helpdesk!!!!!

My wireless will not allow both the desktop and the new laptop to be connected to wireless at the same time. It bumps one or the other off telling me it is due to duplicate IP addresses.

I can only reestablish a connection on the computer that was disabled by both restarting the computer, and turning the wireless off/on. I do get connected with both computers, briefly, but the duplicate IP problem takes over and bumps the laptop off.

Is there a way to resolve the duplicate IP problem and maintain connections with both at the same time?

Laptop -- HP Pavillion, Windows 7
Desktop -- HP Pavillion, Windows XP

A:Wireless -- Duplicate IP problem

Repair duplicate IP address on network issue.
Turn off everything on the network, ALL the machines and any other network device like network printers and NAS drives.
Turn off the router and modem.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady data light.
Turn on the router, wait two minutes.
Turn on the network devices and computers, one at a time.

This issue is usually caused by resetting a router without resetting all the network connected devices.

Another issue that will cause duplicate IP addresses is assigning static IP addresses to devices that conflict with the router's DHCP address range. If you require static IP addressed devices on the network, they should be configured to be in the same subnet but outside the address range defined for the DHCP server.

Lately i've been having this very annoying bug. Here's what happens. I would launch a program, such as a game, and shortly after loading, a duplicate instance would appear in the processing menu. It would cause slowdown and i would have to ctrl alt del during the game and end the fraud process. It doesnt just do this with games, but with every other program that i open. If i open Maxthon, my internet browser, i see two Maxthon.exe's in my task manager each with their own seperate memory chunk. If I open Adaware, I see two Adaware.exe's in my task manager, each with a chunk of memory and cpu. Ive even seen some programs do a 3 peat. All cause major slowdown in my pc's performance. Ive done many virus scans but none have picked this up. I'm not even sure if its a virus anymore. Any help or experience would be useful. Thanks.

I might as well give this info:

Hello mtj89Even though you may have performed some virus scans, they may not be identifying everything that is bad. Please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled "Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log". You may even have performed some of these steps already. When you have done that, post a log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis Forum, not here, for assistance by the HJT Team Experts. A member of the Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. Please include the top portion of the HijackThis log that lists version information. An expert will analyze your log and reply with instructions advising you what to fix.It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. Please be patient. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have no replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response, a team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another HJT Team me... Read more

Hello, I have a problem with a pop-up window from User Account Control which wants to run Windows Command Processor. I did not give permission, clicked on 'No' but the window keeps coming up again immediately. I had to press CTRL ALT DEL and open task manager many times before the pop-up minimized or disappeared. The details in the pop-up say that the Program location is "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe"/C "sc create VSSS binPath= C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft' type= own start= auto DisplayName= "Volume Shadow Copy Service" &net start VSSS"
I am afraid this is some sort of virus or trojan that wants to take over my computer.
Please help soon. Thanks.

Hi guys.

For the past few days i ve been connecting an external Hard drive, which appeared as I:
Now, when I connect the external hard drive I: shows the files of C: instead of the external hard disk.

P.s. Earlier I tried to install an .iso using deamon tools which was showing error, then I installed the latest deamon tools, but then it then showed Error 1327. For which I saw a solution which asked me run the following command in cmd:" subst I: C: " . Thats when the issue started.

A:Solved: Duplicate C: drive problem

I had installed fedora ages back. I booted in it and accessed the external hard disk. Then when I booted back to xp, the problem has resolved by itself.
