IE internet speed/usage control

Q: IE internet speed/usage control

Hi

I wish to be able to control the speed/rate in which Internet explorer accesses/downloads sites.

I want to able to slow Intrenet Explorer yet keep Mozila Firefox at its normal rate.

So i don't wish to slow all applications and their access to the internet, just Internet Explorer.

What i am trying to do is to limit the usage that IE uses, e.g. max of 5MB/hour, but i don't wont it to reach the limit then just stop working, I want it to be constant so that it can keep working yet not exseed a limit.

Is this possible?

If so how can this be done?

Thank you to all who contribute to this question i appreciate it!

Regards
Ryan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello guys I have this problem with my internet. My internet speed is really low and when I'm playing game (path of exile) my ping is so high and It's really annoying. I have a PC connected to a DSL wifi router and my sister and mother are using their laptop most of the time and they just hog the internet speed with youtube and facebook. Can I set the internet speed so that I could lower their speed?
Here's the device webpage.. Sadly this router don't have a QoS.. If you want more picture of the device interface I would gladly provide them.. So far I only see these 2 pictures as ones that should enable me to configure my network.

A:How to control the speed of my internet

A router with QoS may or may not really help. Probably more helpful would be to upgrade (if any of these are available) to higher DSL bandwidth or cable or fiber.

Hello all.

I have 3 computers on the same network connecting through a router, first is mine, second and third are my brothers. The problem is my brother is constantly downloading music albums, movies etc, Which causes mine to "lag" i can barley doing anything takes upto 2 minutes sometimes to load a website.
Is there anything i can do to minimize the issue? such as share the internet speed into 3? so when hes downloading he is using his "portion" of speed?

We are all connected through a wireless router if that helps

Thanks in advance

Not something we want to assist with, if that's the service you agreed too then that's the service you get, we won't help tricking their system if even possible which it probably isn't.

Hi,

I'm running Internet Explorer 8 with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 (Gateway GT5032 computer). Bear with me 'cause I'm a total novice at doing my own computer repairs, and I hope I will describe the problem(s) correctly.

First, I had a scary encounter late last week with some kind of virus/trojan/hijacker that popped up and acted like an Anti-Virus program that was scanning my machine. I knew right away that it was something fishy, but not having any experience with this stuff, I frankly panicked. I restarted my computer and ran Spybot Search & Destroy, which I already had installed, then downloaded Malware Bytes Anti-Malware based on a recommendation (probably from this board). I ran both programs and followed prompts to fix the bad stuff that was showing up. I wish I could remember exactly what these program claimed to fix, but I didn't write it all down, and I don't know how to find out now. I did write down "Win32.Agent.pz" as one of the offenders. Also there was a message that "Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled" which I told Spybot Search and Destroy (I'm pretty sure it was Spybot) to fix. I just wanted the anti-spyware programs to get rid of this stuff as quickly as possible, and it looked like it worked, after I chose to fix these things. This was about 7 days ago.

Over the next few days, I ran the programs again just to make sure, and had them delete some tracking cookies, but nothing else sig... Read more

Hi guys, hope you can help me please. I'm not too computer savvy so sorry if I'm missing something important or I say something dumb. I'm really frustrated and I'm trying my best to learn and solve this problem.
So I bought this Vaio with Core i5-3210M, 4Gb Ram, Windows 8 64 bit. I had really high hopes for it, coming from an i3. For the first few weeks it worked fine, but then it started to freeze while watching movies. Then it started happening all the time, and the cooling fan became consistently noisy for working at full capacity.
I was used to opening task manager on older systems when this happened to see if there was a non-responding program and force it closed, so I noticed Task Manager offers some more features in Win 8. Here, I see that CPU usage is high, staying always around 70% and from time to time reaching 100. At this moment, the process taking the biggest slice is called VCS System Tray with 58%.
What's perhaps more concerning, is that Disk usage is almost constantly on 100%. And by this I mean it reaches 100 and stays there for long periods of time, perhaps up to 20 minutes, then it falls down a few seconds and up again to 100. During this time the computer is excruciatingly painful to use. To even open a program takes forever. When this happens, it seems that Chrome is at the top of the list of processes with most disk usage, with about 1-2Mbps, but this sometimes changes and the list can be led by System, Utorrent, Octoshape, VCS System Tray, Communication... Hi, not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes...

My son gets a bit carried away on MSN and Runescape and forgets to do his homework, etc! I work from home on a LAN, using Netgear DG834 ADSL router, PCs are running XPSP2 and his PC uses this LAN (but he is not on my office network, so I cannot 'see' his PC on Network neighbourhood.

Is there any easy way to control/block his usage whilst still being able to use my office PCs? I tried setting up rules on the router to block or only allow usage at certain times, but it seems that if he has the programs running he can still access the internet. I now resort to pulling out the cables, but I'd prefer something automatic and sometimes he needs the net for homework, so he gives me the old 'I need the PC to do homework' routine and ends up back on MSN/Runescape, so if I can block the ports or similar at certain times it would be useful

Thanks for any help

Does anyone know how i can monitor/control fan speeds?
i have tried sppedfan, but it doesn't seem to do anything but monitor my CPU temp. I can set a desired temp for my CPU, but that doesn't the actual temp or the fan speed. When i look into the tab that has fans in it, theres nothing there. I have also tried nTune, as i have an Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS video adapter.

Is there a program other than the two i tried to control fan speed? or a way to manually do it?

If Speedfan doesn't work, then most propably any else program won't work either. You could want to replace the fan with a controllable one or get a voltage regulator for the fan or for all the fans in one.

It depends on what motherboard you have, that will allow Speedfan to work properly. The fans that can be controlled must have 3-wires. You can always install a fan controller, if you really need to control fan speed

The fan's speed (in most cases) is decided on how hot the processor is, or how much power is in use. I don't think it's possible to control it.

Hello all,i recently bought a new PSU and so far it seems to do the job quite well, however when i run certain more demanding games like The Witcher 3 and the PSU itself goes into high load, the fan makes quite a lot of noise.

Most reviews i saw online about the PSU seem to say it's not loud at all,and granted it's not loud while in idle. The question is, is it possible to somewhow lower the PSU fan speed ? The sound it makes is similar to a cheap office fan, however as i said, while in idle it's dead silent.

PSU : seasonic M12II-620 EVO Edition

PC specs :

- FX 8350
- G1 Gigabyte 1070
- 1 x HDD
- 990xa-ud3 MB
- 16 gb ram hyperx savage
- 4 x case fans

A:PSU Fan Speed control ?

It should not make the excessive noise you describe
Indeed even with the fan running it should be very quiet as it is a fluid type fan bearing, far quieter than a simple sleeve bearing as found on cheaper PSU`s or indeed quieter than a standard ball bearing

Are you sure you have it mounted correctly
http://seasonic.com/position-power-supply/

I will check the base requirements of your system on the info I have and post back. If you have bought the minimum PSU wattage then you should not have done so
For instance minimum system requirements 600 watt always buy next up eg 700/750 watt

Although the PSU meets the based requirements of the system 125watt CPU and 150 watt graphics, the recommended psu for the card being 500 watt that of course does not take account of other components - hard drives etc OR indeed OC

See this
Seasonic recommend it for office use and causal gaming

My computer was running just fine til about a week ago. I am on a secure network that was before yielding 1/mb/sec download speeds on wireless router. I have tested the network on my laptop and it still runs just fine, however my desktop has become sluggish, the download speeds are down to 30kb/sec and the search function has been taken over by "searchfastfind.net" that Malware Bytes has failed to find. Today the internet would simply die and not reconnect, or my browser would redirect to dead sites. The CPU on any processes doesn't seem high, but my computer is screaming like it's running several programs at once. I am using Vista, all updates installed that are available and needed.

Hi, I may be missing something pretty basic here as my tech knowledge is pretty poor. I have recently paid my internet provider to increase my connection speed from 1meg package to 4meg as I need a faster connection. Ive done a speed test and it says that my speed is pretty much what the service provider has promised but when I use the wifi in my place (which I used with the original 1 meg connection) it doesnt seem any faster at all. I thought I'd be flying from one website to the next but its not happening that way at all. Someone said I should consider buying an aircard to increase my computers ability to recieve more data from the router but then someone else said that is not what an aircard is for. Anyway, Im stuck and would appreciate any help i could get as at the moment Im paying alot more cash each month for no improvement. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers

Good day.

I'm looking for a way to control how much time a logged on user can have during one session. To be more specific, I have two daughters who constantly bicker and fight over how much time the other one has been on the computer. I know Vista has built in time usage controls, but they are not in depth enough for what I'm wanting to do. What I want to do is this: One of my daughters logs on and at that moment, a counter begins counting down so that after one-and-one-half hours of continuous use, her session automatically logs off. If she happens to log off within the time frame, then the counter would reset until the next time she logs back on.

Does Vista (Home Premium 64-bit) have the capability to do this or does anyone know of any (preferably free) 3rd party software to enable this?

Thanks.

A:Time usage control

You could try Scheduled Tasks to cause a System Shutdown/Restart with a delay of 60 mins (or whatever time you choose) when it detects that your daughter has logged in. I think that you can also have a task that will abort this if she logs off prior to her time expiring.

I'll try and work something out and get back to you.

Bought used M58-7360. Fan never speeds up. Stays around 25% I'd guess. I was transcoding video in plex and cpu usage was at 100% and cpu temp was at 170 degrees F and rising. I pulled a wire attached to the "thermal" pin on the front of the mobo to get fan to speed up and cooled the cpu down. After researching, apparently the only way to control the fan speed is the "quiet technology" setting under the ME selection in the Intel AMT software that you access by pressing ctrl+p at boot. I got to the area where it should be listed and it isn't there. It isn't in the normal bios. I installed speedfan program but it doesn't "see" the fan. I've also tried resetting cmos. Please help!

Boohoo, no specs. In any case, a BIOS update may take care of it. I had a tornado going on my last board but a quick check and a BIOS update fixed it. There's usually fan control in the BIOS as well. Some motherboard manufacturers provide utilities that will allow fan and temp changes and/or alarm settings. System specs would go a long way in helping to provide specifics.

Hi, While using my laptop normally it usually crashes due to overheating. I've noticed this is occuring due to my fanspeed not going up when the temperature of my laptop is going up. Therefor after a while it just overheats and crashes. However after crashed if I try to reboot it still notices the laptop is too warm and therefor it turn on the fans to full speed and refuses to boot. So for some reason during windows it can't control the fan speed but during booting it can.I've tried downloading programs like Fanspeed but they all can't seem to find or control my fan.How do I fix this? Best regards and thanks for reading this, Niek

Is there any way to control the fan speeds on the system? I checked the bios but since my fans arn't stock (upgraded) they dont appear. No Vista option for the fan speeds either. I have downloaded various programs, SpeedFan ect, but none seem to make my runs run at 100% Its always ranging from 50% to 60%.

Also, are there any good programs to overclock the CPU? I'm having alot of trouble with my MSI Neo P45 motherboard. I've got the right components and all, but it wont let me overclock my QX6700 past 2.8 when it was 2.66. I want to at least get it to 3.44ghz.

A:Fan Speed Control and Overclocking

Hi,

Not sure what's going on with your fans are you sure they are supposed to run at 100% ? - are the correct options enabled in the Bios - worth checking the manual or get it from your mobo's website - also see if they have an updated Bios available.

CPUID has oc'ing functions - it warns you it's at your own risk, of course - they also do HWMonitor which should help you see what's going on with your fans and temps.

CPUID

Hope this does the trick

Hello, what software can I use to manually control the fan speed on my gtx 295 video card? I think I am having heat issues.
Thanks
Eric

A:software to control fan speed gtx 295

Either of these,

MSI Afterburner

EVGA | EVGA Precision | EVGA Precision

should work. Or you can try RivaTuner,

RivaTuner v2.24c download from Guru3D.com

which the other two are based on. RT may not work as it hasn't been updated in a while, and may have problems it you are using an unsupported driver.

I don't think its possible, although I have no experience in overclocking, one of the comments on that tutorial is:

SpeedFan was made with desktops in mind. Notebooks control the fans differently compared to desktops. It will not work.

Is your laptop in a well ventilated place? Have you considered getting a cooling mat? Is the fan nice and clean? That last one is very important, my laptop was reaching 89 celsius before I removed the crap from the fan, now it reaches 58

First time posting here so hoping I do not mess up...

Anyway, my question is about controlling the speed of a mouse that is used on a system that has no settings panel for it. To expand that, I have a Security DVR setup that has mouse support but no keyboard support and all control has to be done with the mouse. Unfortunately, the mouse is way to fast for me and with the embedded firmware, no way to slow it.

Curious if they make a mouse that has a built in physical adjustment for the speed, or some kind of inline control to put between the mouse and USB port that could do this.

I want to turn my fan on high for my high performance or balance setting because my laptop puts out a lot of heat sometimes even reaching a tjmax of 221 F or I believe its 105 C. I just got it and I am a heavy mmo gamer which doesn't weigh as much as a FPS so I figured it could handle it. Which it does pulling 100+ frames in FPS and MMOs. My problem is the overheating and last I checked 180F-190F is pretty hot for a laptop, but my fan won't turn on high cause of the stupid acer CPU %over desire = %+ of its speed which is retarded. I was wondering if anyone knows a program that will bypass the acers third party prevention system so I can turn on the speed to max.

My computer:
Acer Aspire 7741g-6426
intel i5-480m(2.66mhz[turbo 2.93mhz])
AMD Radeon HD 6550M 1g ram dedicated video card
4gb DDR3 memory

I've got 8.1 on a Dell Inspirion 5738 laptop, I have a generic usb mouse attached. My problem is the mouse pointer slowly starts speeding up until it gets so fast I have no accuracy. I mean I move my pinky and the cursor moves from one side of the 17" screen to the other. I go in Control Panel>Mouse>Pointer Options> and set the speed to a slower speed. At this point I only have one more notch to go down, and it's still a little faster than I want it. How do I control the speed, you know, how do I keep it from speeding up? Is there a way to keep it a set speed other than the above mentioned procedure?

My 15 year old son is addicted to MSN and Facebook and spends around 3-4 hours a night on it. He needs to do homework on the pc most nights, so it is difficult to stop him using MSN etc. while doing homework on the net. I cannot stand over him all night.
I have installed K9, which controls web access and filters harmful sites very effectively, but he can still access MSN/Facebook after K9 has blocked web access.
I need some software which will allow me to set time limits on his usage and block access outside specified hours. There seem to be a lot of products which claim to do this but I am not sure which is best.

..and before someone says it, yes, we have tried talking to him, many many, many times, but he denies the problem/storms off/ usual teenage tantrums etc. I have unplugged the router at times but a more controlled method would be preferable to allow him some time on these sites but realise that there is a limit.

Hello, how we all doing?

Good.

I however am not so good, someone told me that ones psychological well being is connected to the state of ones comp. Slow computer, a lot of irrtation. Obviously this is true.

But I digress!

Have an issue with high CPU that only occurs when internet/network card is involved. This makes my computer laggy.

According to asus liveupdate application I have the latest drivers for everything. I even updated my BIOS through it and it installed in windows, somehow. I did flash it via floppy or usb. I have read that this software is very unreliable and buggy.

If someone can give a link to where ASUS posts BIOS revision history/bugfixes I would appreciate it. I can't find it on this link.

I start OS, everything is fine.

Fire up latest version of chrome, 16.0.912.77 (my laptop has been connected on and off today and I have google update, so it should be this very latest), download anything (I think anything, at least from FTP) and CPU load increases as the download speed increases. It takes about 30-60 seconds for CPU to reach 100%, then the download speed decreases (I think my comp can't handle that high hd write speed while CPU is 100%). If it gets up to 1/2/3 MB/s (megabyte) this happens. Close dl/finished/paused → CPU goes back down to normal levels of idling (which I suspect is unusually high in my case). Windows is not very snappy, but not all too laggy either. I get maxed out to 12MB/s with ubuntu ftp, CPU rises, dls... Read more
