OLED Color Settings / Display Driver and Lenovo Driver Compatability issues

Q: OLED Color Settings / Display Driver and Lenovo Driver Compatability issues

Upon recieving my X1 Yoga OLED, I had an issue where every time I woke the computer from sleep or switched to tablet mode, the display would flicker black a few times and the computer would sometimes restart. I'd get a critical event, kernel event 117. A little research led me to update the display driver. It was already up to date, but reinstalling the Intel display driver fixed the issue. Soon after, I noticed that changing thecolor settings made no change to the display. I knew it worked prior to reinstalling the display driver. As advised in another thread here, I reinstalled the system interface foundation driver (again, was originally up to date), and this fixed the color settings issue. However, the original issue came back! I'd obviously rather have the display working properly, so I again reinstalled the display drivers. Sure enough, the color setting issue is back. Seems like these two drivers aren't playing well together. Any ideas on how to get around this? Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi! The Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2017/2:nd edition has an OLED panel option. Lenovo's download page for this model, https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/hk/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... , offers a driver "Intel "OLED Panel Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Type: 20JD, 20JE, 20JF, 20JG)", 1.0.0.5, 2017/10/02, in the Display and Video Graphics section. In Windows, the device appears as "Intel(R) OLED Panel Driver" under "System devices" in the Windows Device Manager. Normally I'd think all needed to drive a display is the graphics driver (e.g. "Intel(R) HD Graphics 620" under "Display adapters") and a monitor file for resolution, frequency and color calibration ("OLED Display 2560x1440" under "Monitors"). So, why do we need an "Intel(R) OLED Panel Driver", and what does this device actually do?

Display driver notification keeps showing up notifying me the display driver has stop responding. This happens simply when browsing with Edge and scrolling a web page. I ran windows update and looked for update drivers... the problem keeps coming back often. Very disapointed that this brand new PC running Windows 10 has so many issues out of the box. Lenovo should consider a recall.

Heyy everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, and it has taken me a while to post this thread since I have been trying to research and figure out my own problem myself by searching many, MANY, other related forums but so far have had not much luck. Also, obviously I couldn't find an individual who had the exact same specs as my computer who had the same issues, so I am going try and get help through this thread specifically for my computer. First I will explain everything that is going or happened and then all the specs are at the end of the thread.

Recently I downloaded a trial of World of Warcraft just to start playing it again for a little bit. I played it for about two days and then after playing it for about an hour or two straight, all of a sudden, the video card craps out, screen flashes, goes black, and then comes back within seconds. Then a message error pops stating 'Display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered.'.

Within those two days I was playing though, I was doing a lot of updates on my computer since I reformatted my laptop recently. So I thought maybe it had to do with the updates and decided to do a system restore. Of course with my luck, the system restore failed, and failed a couple more times after trying again but at different restoration points/dates. So then I decided so continue with my updates since I still had to install services pack 1, more updates, service pack 2, and more updates.

With every res... Read more

I have brandnew X1 YOGA OLED. Got 1month ago. After a recent auto update, select color settings function (when on desktop, right mouse click and you can choose native, standarard, movie pro, etc.) stopped working. I cannot use it from companion either. Any idea why this is happening? I noticed a new intel graphics driver is installed, could that be the reason? Version is 21.20.16.4590

I just got my 2nd Gen Lenovo X1 Yoga yesterday.  It has an OLED display.  After watching a review of it I thought I would keep my color settings always in "Photo Pro". When I do this and using Chrome I notice my white balance changing sporadically.I can trigger it easily any time Chrome brings up a dropdown... this can either be in the address bar, or in a field on a form which pops up an autocomplete dropdown. So ... it happens ALL THE TIME.  I hit ctrl+k or ctrl+l to enter an address or do a Google search and all of a sudden my colors all shift. Does anyone else notice this?  This is very annoying (more so than Fn and Ctrl being swapped)For now I have to leave it on "Native" so I don't go crazy.

I got my X1 yoga with OLED almost one month ago. Under Lenovo Built-in App, Lenovo settings, there is a color settings to adjust for viewing needs and eyesight protection. I like the option of Blue Light Cut for Office, which adjusts the blue light output. However, from just now the color settings didn't work anymore. Whatever option I chose, the screen color keeps the same. I called Lenovo tech support, and they escalated me from basic support to premium support. Then they surprised me by stating that I need to pay $199 for this one-time service. I argued that 1) I am under warranty coverage and 2) Lenovo settings are one of Lenovo products, not a third party software. I am not asking a software from other companies. But they still insisted that warranty only covers hardware issues.  Alright, this is Lenovo, which claims to provide high-quality service to their clients. Now I have to fix the problem myself. I created another Windows user, but no luck with the color settings. Does anyone have idea how to fix the issue? Many thanks.

So just got the new update to Windows 10 (1709), and the same problem with Color Settings has reared it's head again. The Color Setting (Native | Standard | Photo Pro | Movie Pro | Blue Light Cut) modes don't seem to be working anymore. Doesn't matter if I change the settings with a right click on the desktop menu "Select Color Setting" or use the Lenovo Companion App's Display tab. The setting I make tracks between the desktop menu and the Lenovo Settings app, just nothing changes on the OLED screen. This is the same thing that happened with the last update to Wind 10 (1703), and the fix was given to us by Rydeen at Lenovo in the  Select-Color-Settings-Not-Working-on-X1-YOGA-OLED thread. Short form is to uninstall the Lenovo System Interface Foundation and then re-install it. The trouble is you can't follow the instructions that Rydeen gave anymore. (1) There is no more ?Lenovo System Interface Foundation? so it can't be un-installed. Which sort of makes #2 moot, but none the less, (2) click ?Lenovo Settings? to launch and you will be prompted to install ?Lenovo System Interface Driver?. Except there is no more Lenovo Settings; it was absorbed by Lenovo Companion and doesn't work anymore (and Lenovo Settings tells you to uninstall it). So Rydeen (or anyone else ), what is the current "fix" for the problem? I'd like my Color Settings to work again. (Also, a new version of Netflix was installed with the 1709 Win update, and the fl... Read more

My X1 Yoga 2nd Gen came early, on the 25th. Everything is great, the OLED screen is great, but before the Win10 1703 update, every time it came out of sleep, the brightness was 100%. Indicators were all still at 50% (my normal setting). Moving any of the brightness controls restored the setting. The 1703 update just finished, and the "wake from sleep @ 100% brightness" problem seems to be fixed. However, the Color Setting (Native | Standard | Photo Pro | Movie Pro | Blue Light Cut) modes don't seem to be working anymore. I'm stumped on this (other than admitting that my video card is dying). I have an EVGA Nvidia GeForce 7600GT video card running on an XP Home SP3 PC. It has worked fine for 3 years with no complaints. Last week, I rebooted my PC and it came up with display settings of 800x600 and 4 bit color. System Restore didn't work. Instead of reinstalling my video drivers, I used my old FixIt Utilities recovery commander program (which has worked a few times before when System Restore failed) to recover my system to the day before. Well, that little gem damaged my boot sector and my hard drive disappeared.
Having kept good backups of the important stuff, I wasn't too worried and just did a format and reinstall of Windows. I finished the install and fully updated Windows 2 days ago. No problems over the last 2 days. Today, I do the following:

Playing CNC3: Tiberium Wars and I get a BSOD with nv4_disp.dll being listed as the cause. I had this same thing happen 2 or 3 weeks ago and downloaded a new nv4_disp.dll from dll-files.com. It fixed my problem back then and I never saw the BSOD again until today. So, today I do the same thing with that .dll file. I restart the game and play for about an hour with no BSOD. Afterwards, I rebooted and got the 4 bit color display. I go back into the System32 folder and rename the original .dll file back to the way it was so I have the first nv4_disp.dll file in place. Reboot and still have 4 bit color.

Next, I stick my video card CD in and ... Read more

Do not allow Windows to update graphics drivers. When you allow Windows to do so an MS altered driver is installed, not OEM drivers.I would head over to the Nvidia site. The latest driver available for your card will be there. Probably listed under Legacy drivers. Of course if you are pretty sure the card is on it`s way out then this is probably only a short term fix. One other option is to run the native driver Windows installed after you uninstalled the driver contained on the CD. If you do`t experience any trouble then leave it as is.

this may work, go to this link and download sisoft sandra. After install, run it, choose video system information, select the drop down bar and choose your vid card, usually it shows your monitor by default but the vid card should be in the list. It is a 2.8meg download but hopefully it will be able to recognize your card. sisoftsandra
Other options in to right click on my computer, choose properties, device manager, display adapter, vid card and see if it gives you any info about it. If not you may need to visually look at the vid card to get the information.

I have the following issues regarding the OLED brightness When I change the display configuration, e.g. attach the yoga to a 2nd monitor via Dock, flip the notebook into tablet mode, change screen orientation, wake up from standby.... In half of all cases, the brightness is reset: It shows like 50% brightness, but the screen is turned up to 100% and I have to manually re-adjust brightness. Very annoying!OLED "power saving modes" (e.g. reducing brightness of the taskbar) aren't persistent: If I restart the device, If I change the display configuration (see above for examples) - the OLED power saving settings seem to get lost and I have to restart Lenovo Settings in order to make them work again. Very annoying as well!Using Windows 10 with most recent drivers supplied by lenovo companion. Happy to provide additional details.

I just updated my ati radeon hd 4850 graphics card driver in an attempt fo fix another problem I'm having and after updating it and restarting my pc my display settings have been changed to the lowest resolution and 4 bit color. I tried changing them the normal way by right clicking and going to the display properties on the desktop but there is either no button to apply the settings or I can't see it because everything is so big and goes off the screen. The buttons I can see are identify (I think), troubleshoot, and advanced. I've tried clicking on advanced and after hitting enter there as I still can't see whats down at the bottom it asks if I want to keep the new display settings and after clicking yes it stays at the same resolution and color setting its at. I've also tried messing with display settings through the ati catalyst contrl center that installed with the new update but that doesn't seem to do anything either. Does anyone know what I need to do to change my display settings? I've tried messing with it for a while but I can't really tell what I'm doing since I'm not able to see all of whats displayed on the windows that come up. Also, if I reinstalled windows xp would I need to reinstall the drivers on my pc or not?

First what is/was the other problem, is it related to this or unrelated, and is it now solved ? This may help -
If you reinstall then all drivers should be checked for the latest versions, and all windows updates would need to be re-checked.

Hi all. I'm new here but not ot Lenovo. I just bought a new Yoga 520-14IKB.. I'm used to installing fresh Win 10 but was frustrated to find an erro message pop up threee times in a little box on screen  'set user settings to driver failed' you have to clear the three boxes every time and when you shut down it always says one things is still running. You have to click 'shut down anyway'. After some research the problem is with Alps pointer application....apoint.exe.. You tube have videos on this. I stopped the process in Task manager first then all I did was rename the exe.  The program is is C:/ programs/Apoint2k/apointe.exe. They said delete it but it just put a z in front of the filename and rebooted the Yoga.  It doesn't seem to have aftected anything: the mouse pad works and the touch screen works whether open or folded back. I have noanswer as to why disabling it works and the tablet function still operates but thought it would be good to pass this on as i have seen previous posts with this unasnwered problem, here.

This may belong in the Windows 98 forum, but since I believe it was caused by something in an email my daughter opened, I am starting here.

My daughter clicked on a link in an email she received at the end of July that promised something like "all kinds of new free stuff - music, games, etc, even before they are made public! I use it and love it!" or something like that. (This despite all my warnings not to ever respond to spam like that.) It began downloading something, she is not sure what, and she got scared and shut the computer off. When she rebooted, the display was set at 640x480 and 16 colors. I can't get it to change back. Everytime I choose high color, it tells me to reboot before the setting can be applied, then when I do, it stays at 16 colors. Also, all audio is gone. I have Real Player and Music Match Jukebox, and the .exe files are still there, but when i try to use them, I get the error message that I either do not have a sound card installed, or the mixer device on my sound card is not installed. It tells me to go to the multimedia icon on the control panel to fix this, but the audio tab is totally grayed out, and there is no "add" option on the devices tab.
To add to my frustration, the CD-ROM drive no longer works, so I can't even use my restore disks. I just get told that the driver can't be found.

I am at my wit's end, is there any way to fix this? Has anyone else heard of this kind of email message? I have scann... Read more

Welcome to TSG.

The first thing I wdould do is to run an updated virus scan like this one;http://security1.norton.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=us&venid=sym&plfid=20&pkj=LOUPRHYTINMHDKDCWLL

If you find something follow instructions for removal.

If it doesn't find anything I would check device manager (right click My Computer) for exclamation marks by the devices you are having problems with.
I would try to update drivers first, make sure you have drivers handy if they aren't windows drivers.
For the CD-Rom you can boot with a startup disk then update if you need to.

I teach computer applications at a private school. We just purchased 6 Lenovo A600 all-in-ones to use for our yearbook class. We wiped them and installed Windows XP SP3, Office 2007, InDesign and Photoshop CS3, etc.

These computers came with Windows Vista Home and were not configureable (i.e. we could not get any hardware or software changed at the factory). However, when I installed Windows XP, I was able to get drivers for XP from the the Lenovo website. All of the worked except for the Intel(R) GMA driver for the display. Although I installed the driver, the computer won't recognize the screen and let me change the resolution to 1900 x 1080. Instead it uses a default 1024 x 768 setting.

How can I fix the drivers so that the screen will display properly?

When I run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I get this message in the display tab:

To test DirectDraw functionality, click the "Test DirectDraw" button above.

I don't know how to get this video driver. Help would be much appreciated!

Basically, I have no problems with my machine except whilst playing World of Warcraft. Whilst playing, my laptop will completely freeze and i am unable to do anything except turn it off manually (hold down power key). This mostly (but not always) happens (for those of you who know WoW) when i am in raids and partys. That basically means my laptop is trying to process data from 5-25 different people. this may or may not be relevant to my problem.

Assuming this was a display driver issue, i tried to download a new one from both the Acer and Nvidia websites, but neither have updates for my specific driver.

If you think neither of these is causing my problem, it could be that some of the WoW files are somehow corrupt, or just that my laptop is getting very old and simply failing horribly, but i'd rather not be told to buy a new laptop

Thanks in advance

The laptop I use is used through an RGB cable (due to my 2 year old thinking it would be funny to stand on the laptop, thus breaking the screen) and we've not had any problems until yesterday.

The laptop for no apparant reason turned itself off. Upon reboot I went into safe mode to do a system restore (as I'd done this on a previous occasion when some software I added caused the laptop to run erratically) only to find there was no restore points saved which I thought was rather odd as the previous time I could have chosen 3 different restore points.

In the device manager there was nothing showing to say there was any problems so I shut down and rebooted. When I logged on (in normal mode) it appeared to log on as normal before suddenly freezing and crashing. Just before this a notice came up out of the system tray to which said something along the lines of a driver display stopped working but has now recovered and I could just make out something like igfx....whatever that means.

I again logged in via safe mode and tried updating the drivers, downloading them from the intel website (they are part of the 4 Express Chipset Family) but nothing seems to work. On the device manager under the display tab it states 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' when it should give me 2 options with 'Intel 4 Express Chipset Family on them.

Basically you have to uninstall the old drivers and existing software before attempting to install the updated suite and associated drivers. Read and follow the the directions at the above link.

will upgrading to xp resolve the driver issues that I am encountering while trying to install a ati AIW Radeon 7500 on my gigabyte 'GA-7VKMP' with onboard video, audio, and network, running a duron 1.3 ghz processor with 256 mb ddr ram and win98, and a panasonic s15 monitor.

For some strange reason no matter what advice I follow I just cannot get the drivers to work. I have even formatted my machine, reinstalled all drivers, the most recent that I can find, and still no success.

Any advice will help.......

Hi,
So I'll say every since the beginning of the year, my driver has been messing up horribly. By the way, I did install windows 10 just because I thought I should update, but every since I had windows 10 my laptops display has been cutting off a lot, or saying "Display Driver has crashed and now recovered" or the screen glitches and restarts my whole laptop.
I also reverted back to windows 8.1 months ago and cleaned, refreshed my laptop a lot but nothings getting better. I've had this laptop for about 3 years now and I dont know if there's a way to fix this problem.

Okay, so I have a Gateway MT6705 running Vista Home Basic and had to restore to factory settings. After doing so, most of my drivers stopped working. Of course, I've had to do this before, so I know that there is a way to enter a series of command prompts that reconnected the C:/ and the D:/, which get disconnected after restore to factory, so that I could reinstall the drivers I need. There is a way, and I've used it before, but after calling Gateway, the different representative had no idea that was even possible and wanted me to buy a $20 disk. This, of course, is my last resort. If anyone knows this series of commands to help me out, please let me know.

Every so often my screen goes black and a pop-up appears saying that my display driver stopped responding and has recovered. It happens most often if I am trying to scroll through a online pdf file fast. Most of the time my screen will recover within a minute or two. However, with pdf files I have to refresh the page. What does this mean and how can I prevent it?

I bought this Lenovo Yoga 900 Orange on Arpil 8 2016. Today is June 8 2016, I have to make this post.  I was in the meeting yesterday and taking note on MS words. And that was the only program that I opened at that time. Suddenly, the screen turn pitch black on me. I thought that it was the display driver again. Yet this time it stopped for at least 15 minutes, and I had to switch to pen and paper to take note of the meeting. During that time, I try to restart the computer by hitting the power button. Until the third time, the screen was coming back to me. This is very awful.  I bought this machine and heard the rumor that its display driver is not good. But I DO NOT expect it to be that bad. Before the major incident above, the driver did stop 3 times in the past, but it restarted within second. I did a little research and knew that other users had to deal with that too. So I thought that once in a while the screen will die for several seconds, and it was ok with me.  Yesterday, during my meeting, stop more than 15 minutes. Unbelievable!!!.  I want to return the product. Please guide me through this process. If I have to pay the 15% fee, I will do it.

Hello! I don't know if anyone has ever had similar issues, but here goes... I'm working on a Sony Vaio, VGN-FE890. Came with Vista, and I installed XP to create a dual boot. Everything seems to work great, except the video in XP. When I move windows, they "jump" instead of "gliding" across the screen. And, scrolling is just stuttered completely. I've tried to install updated drivers (I have a NVIDIA Geforce 7600), but an error pops up during installation saying the program cannot find the software to support my hardware. I don't have any display adapters in my device manager, so I'm assuming that XP is just not "seeing" the video card? I'm wondering if this has to do with the dual boot and some setting in Vista? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I'm pulling my hair out when I use XP!!

Thanks, in advance!!

PS) Please excuse the "little" language remarks I use to describe what's happening!!

Hey All,

I'm having issues with my Desktop PC that you may have some tips on fixing and be my savior

I replaced the PSU (power supply) and the GPU (graphics card) for my deskop PC lately due to crashes ("Display driver has stopped functioning correctly") and seemingly power related issues.

I then did a clean install of Windows 7 with SP1 and all updates to start fresh. I installed the latest stable driver for my Nvidia GTX 670 GPU.

I experienced different crashes around 1 hour after booting in each time. The crashes appear to be graphics related but also involve the inability for me to "end" certain processes (e.g. FalloutLauncher.exe). It also seems to crash much quicker if I have Windows Aero turned on or load up a graphics intensive game.

The potentially related log events I see are:

1) Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

2) Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

Any ideas on how I can make my system stable and behave nice?

Hi guys,
I recently bought the XPS 9560 (e-value: Z511296AU) and have been mostly using it mostly for uni and assignments. I read that the GTX 1050 built in the laptop was able to run Overwatch with benchmarked FPS at ~59fps if not more. So I ran Overwatch on the laptop and assumed that the integrated GPU (intel) would automatically swap over to run overwatch using the 1050 display graphics. Upon playing a few games the FPS remained at a consistent 29 - 30 fps even with FPS cap above 30. I ran Dxdiag and found that the display driver when running Overwatch was the intel integrated graphics, not the GTX 1050. I googled ways on overriding the integrated graphics but did not find any answers i needed
My question is really:Does the 1050 get capped at 30fps when running a low-mid graphics demanding game like overwatch? Is the 1050 in a laptop different to the 1050 in a desktop? How do i use the 1050 in my laptop specifically when gaming or has it been running the whole time?
PC specs:CPU: 7th gen Intel i7 7700HQOS: Windows 10 homeRAM: 8GBHD: 256Gb SSDGPU: Intel integrated + GTX 1050 (4GB)
Thanks in advance for reading.

Hello,

I formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows 7. I installed all the necessary Drivers. When I open any game (for example, Spider Solitaire) I get a popup stating graphics accelerator is not enabled or the device driver is not updated. TO resolve this I updated my Display Driver. After this windows does not shut down completely. Also, when browsing(both Chrome and IE 11), the page crashes. When I uninstall the driver update, windows shuts down fine and I dont see any page crashes in browser, but I am unable to play games and unable to watch videos (they dont play at all, sometimes I see a lag).

I have tried updating the driver automatically under Deice Manager and also through Windows Update. Both has the same results. Below are my hardware/software details.
Laptop Make - Acer Aspire 5755
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
Display - Intel(R) HD Graphics family

Hi, Product: LR 736PA #ABG I have a number of issues with my laptop, I have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling however nothing seems to budge. I have read other posts but I still can't get the links to work on my laptop.  First off, HP support Assistant on startup does not work and an error message appears 'cannot find sorttsp.nlp' which prevents my trouble shooting wizard from working and everything else its suppose to do. Secondly, I've noticed in network adapter my 'avast!Firewall NDIS filter miniport ' is missing, which could be causing limited internet access issues. Lastly, when I am using youtube or word, the screen freezes and flahses a few times, soon after saying the Display Driver AMD has stopped working. After installation from Catalyst Install Manager (Radeon Graphics) it reports the Installation has failed due to the above problems.   Any advice on how to improve these issuess will be greately appreciated. Thank you Julia

The video performance of the X1 Yoga is horrible.  Connected to the OneLink+ dock, and driving two external monitors as well as the X1 screen, edits made in Microsoft Excel take 5 to 10 seconds to roll across spreadsheets, even on relatively small (5MB) workbooks.  Additionally, video resolution on external monnitors doesn't support the default resolution for them.  Instead, resolution is lower, making everything larger than needed. Are these knoiwn video driver issues?  Is a fix in the works?
