Solved: replace windows XP english by XP french

Q: Solved: replace windows XP english by XP french

Hello everyone and Happy new year.
I want to replace Windows XP English home edition by Windows XP French professional edition. This would be on my old computer that only has 40 gig hard disk and 512 mb memory. It worked very well with the English version but it is for my sister who doesn't understand English.I do not want to install windows 7 as it takes to much memory to operate.
Do I have to to format my C drive and install the new windows french with the disk or can I install the new windows french in a different partition and after remove what is in the C drive?
Thank you

Preferred Solution: Solved: replace windows XP english by XP french

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

I have tried seaching for this information, but I can't find it anywhere.
What I would like to know is, do function words in Excel convert automatically if sent to someone with Excel in another language.
For example:

I am user English version of Excel. In my spreadsheet I use "COUNT" funtion. If I then send this document to someone who has the French version of Excel does "COUNT" then become "COMPTE" (which is the French equivalent).

Thanks in advance

Hi everybody!

My concern here is that I would want to switch my "French" Windows XP into an "English" one. Indeed, I am going to give my laptop to a Nepalese friend, and he cannot read French.

Thank you for your assistance!

A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

I would like to purchase and install another copy of Windows dedicated entirely to French. I know that I need an additional license, and my question is about how to install it and on which drive? I already have a dual boot Windows 7 and Xubuntu. Also, I am planning to transfer the current C: drive and the new OS drive to a 250GB SSD.

My current setup is a single 500MB Seagate SATA 3

C: current boot drive: drive 80GB
D: 50GB data
E: 60GB data
F: 60GB data
W: 90GB data
Ext4 25GB Xubuntu
Ext4 42GB data
Ext4 42 data
Swap 6GB

A:Installing a copy of French Windows 7 alongside the current English

You can install it on any drive or partition you want. It should be at least 60 GB.

Personally if you have room in your box for another drive, that`s what I would put it on.

Use a Solid State Drive, they are cheap

A friend of mine who spends 8mths a year in france and 4 months in portugal, has just purchased a ACER laptop with XP and all sorts of bundled software in France at a great price, however, he cant seem to change the language option to english, someone else out there who recommended the Shop and Deal has just told him that microsoft have hard coded XP to only work in French on these machines.

Is that true, is there a way around this problem - he is learning french slowly while out there, but would find it more natural in English.

go into the control panel and click on regional and language settings. on the first page you have standards and formats, click customize and pick what you want, then click advanced and make that the same as you picked in the first window. So I have been on line at ebay and got myself windows xp in English, but what I want to know is - do I have to format drive c to reinstall the new version? And if I do do I need to make a reboot disk?.And lastly if the answer is yes to the last two questions how do I do it??!!

A:installing english xp on a french xp pc

Hi soapy

You will need to reformat unless there is a large enough unpartitioned space on HD and you want to keep the french version. Since the default on install is the whole drive, I doubt this would be the case. A clean install is the best option and is not very difficult. Remember that doing this will wipe the HD clean so if there is anything important on the drive you will need to save it, and make sure it would work with english version. Just follow the steps Here under Perform a clean install of Windows XP.

We are having a strange intermittent problem here. We have XP Pro, and Office 2003, with templates created for our people to use with Word. These are basic templates for faxing, letters, etc. but with our very plain text logo on them. Everyone uses them, but for a couple of them, their spell-checker comes up in French. This only happens on the company templates and not to everyone. I've checked all the language settings and made sure they were set to English, but it still happens. I open the same template on my computer and all is fine. So it seems to be machine specific problem. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Thank-you, I've learned a lot from reading here. It's a fabulous resource!!!

This is of course beyond the people designing Windows.

And of course, ALSO WITH METRO please. It seems independent of the "real" OS.

Windows 2000 2003
Travels with file from computer to computer

Dictionary avail is only the system one.
The language options is only ENGLISH.
French is not even available for me to select.
I have a 4mb file with multiple headings, multiple topics, Thousands of hyperlinks.

I type status and info into each "topic" section, cut and paste from other files, and emails.

Hyperlind to file names.

I think it is related to a hyperlinked document name that starts with h3nnnn_-_all.pdf.

But, it will be checking spelling, and all of a sudden it will want to change normal english words to their French equivalent.

It complains there are too many spelling errors for it to check. I then created "my own library" to put all the technical terms in to reduce the number of errors. I put most of the english word errors that it wanted to convert to French into it, and that reduced the number of complaints, but it is amusing / annoying.

I cannot figure out how to find where the dictionary change is invoked within my file. Any ideas?

This might be related to my problem with the "too many edits problem" if that one is a heap problem. Don't know how to change the heap size of word 2000.

A:Word 2000 - Spell check switch between english and french on it's own

Hi Redsox2004,

Word documents, and different parts of a document, may be set in a different language (Tools / Set Language) than your default .

If you have copied from other documents then the copied text may be in another language.

You can set the text to not check spelling if it is causing you a problem, e.g. if you do not have the dictionary loaded for the language required. (same Tools / Set Language option).

You can see the language any text has been set in by looking in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

Hello everyone,

Recently I bought a new computer to my wife, and it has French Windows 7 x64 bit preinstalled on it. As she speaks French/Russian I added a Russian layout in Windows (please note that originally Windows 7 came as French edition).

Now, when she visits Le Monde.fr : Actualit?s ? la Une web site the special characters are not properly shown in IE8. For example, in words, the letter ? becomes й etc.

If she runs Google Chrome browser, everything is working just fine. However, she dislikes Chrome, so I am forced to solve the problem with IE8.

If I choose in IE8 a Western Europe locale I can see proper characters in words, but! I don't want to choose locale each time there is a bug with IE8!

How can I solve the issue?

Please help. Merci.

You just need to set your language options in IE in your preferred order... and if you are going to use cyrillics at all you must have the far eastern language fonts too (as odd as that sounds... d'accord/harosho?)...

Control Panel > Internet Options > Language Button (it's in the first tab...) and set French, Russian, English in their ORDER of personal importance...

I live in belgium and naturally buy my hardware here. I don't, however, like to install my sotware in dutch as it's much easier to solve problems in english.
This means that I install an english windows 7 on my pc and I install english versions of software as wel.

Now, even though I do all this, I still get text in dutch both from the system and from software. For example, some error messages from windows itself are in dutch.

Can anyone explain to me how this is possible and how i can change it? It must have something to do with the hardware but when I install software in english, I expect it to be in English!

A:English installs on an english windows still in dutch

I don't think the hardware has anything to do with it. Question is whether you truely installed an English version. If that was an OEM installed Dutch Win7, then it is not part of the 5 language version (En, Fr, Ger, Span, JPN). You need a 5 language version installation disk to get full English. How did you actually install the "English version" - from what source.

Hello everyone, my first post here, i hope you can help.

My girlfriend has a new-ish laptop that came with Windows 7 Home Premium, and recently it had some issues. The issues have got worse and it turned out to be a stuffed drive, out of warranty, its basically stuffed.

I got a new HD and installed it, but when i went digging for the Windows disc that came with it i couldn't find it. Some googling tells me that this laptop does not come with any install discs (seriously, wtf?!) only some manuals and other paper work. There was however a recovery drive which i assume was a partition for re-installing windows and the rest of the included bloat ware.

Without a Windows 7 disc we could not install it on the new drive, so i downloaded an ISO on my machine and created a DVD, but the idiot i am, i downloaded it in the wrong language. I didn't notice the NL at the end of the file, which im assuming is Netherlands? Please excuse my language ignorance if im wrong.

I know downloading software is wrong, i dont need a lecture. I'm just not going to pay for another copy of Windows 7 because the scumbag laptop manufacturer wont even include a bloody install disc!

I have the product key of course, luckily the sticker on the bottom of the laptop was still visible.

Sure i could download another ISO, but being bad once is enough for me and our net is pretty slow, it took 4 days to DL this copy!

Hope someone can help!

A:Windows Installation Not in English, Can I Force It To Run In English?

I would download or borrow an English language Windows Seven DVD. Install it with no product key. You have 30 days to evaluate. Also you can extend that period several times. It's not illegal. See this tutorial:

By that time you should be able to determine you have everything working and can then find out what you need to do for activation to keep it permanently.

Purchased a PC that was supposed to have English content. Turns-out certain apps are in Spanish, most of which I have been able to correct. My
biggest problem though is MS Internet Explorer 6. The browser is in Spanish, and while I was successfully able to download the English version, I get a program warning suggestion that while I could go ahead and install the IE6, I should remove the Spanish version first from "Add/Remove".

Since "Add/Remove" is part of the browser, it too is in Spanish.
When I go to remove the program, it doesn't offer the two options as its offered in the English version- "Remove or Cancel", but basically something that indicates (loose translation I think!) "Repair or " Replace" with a previous version (which I believe there was- in English, prior to the Spanish replacement but I'm not certain)

My question is, since there isn't a clear choice, should I attempt "Repair" or
"Restore-I don't want this to end-up a total reinstallation of W2K all because of a browser issue!

Any and all suggests would be genuinely appreciated- thank you!

Hi all, I thought I'd share this with the community, as I myself had been looking for an answer for quite a time.

Scenario: English ex-pat living in Spain. Bought new laptop (Toshiba Satellite L500-20Z) with OEM Windows 7 Home Premium in Spanish. Want Windows 100% in English.

I'd been trawling through the threads, and had found these:
Completely change language of Ultimate installation? & win 7 language change

Googling also revealed I could only change the language if I had an Ultimate or Enterprise licence.

I had thought of downloading a legitimate English version Home Premium ISO from Digital River, but a format and clean install was a last resort - even though there's plenty of OEM bloat, I didn't want to risk some things not working or have problems trying to activate later. So I made a C: drive image, just in case.

Solution: Download MS English language Pack (don't forget to check the MD5 hash), download Vistalizator. The language pack won't install by itself - probably because the OS isn't Ultimate or Enterprise, but launch vistalizator (it doesn't install, just runs) and open the language pack from there.

The only thing is, I wanted my main account in English and a secondary user account in Spanish, but that isn't possible. I CAN still change back and forth between languages, but I have to do it through Vistalizator and reboot… The language settings in the control panel don't do anything, and the vistalizator language switch is a global change - ... Been reading a couple of articles about going this route with an 8.1 upgrade disk and skipping over installing 8. However, the info is sort of foggy. My laptop is currently dual booted with 7 and 8.1 . The software was provided to me via my computer club since I'm an 8.1 instructor for them. Anyway, I would really like to wipe out my Windows 7 (the partition with 7 takes up slightly more than half my hard drive right now and isn't getting used anymore) but when the club installed my Windows 8, the dual boot was done at the club using an upgrade disk - not a full version. That was club policy at the time. When 8.1 came out, they gave me my own disk with the MAK number. Anyway, I'm wondering if I can overwrite my 7 with the 8.1 upgrade disk (the other partition will be erased) or do I have to get the 8 upgrade disk first and then upgrade that with the 8.1 upgrade disk. Hope I'm being clear. Everything is completely on the up and up here. I'm not trying to do anything illegal.
