I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:ThinkCentre M71e tower, 3165: can I change the motherboard?

Ive owned a few m71e towers In my experience they are matx and use standard power connectors so a matx board will likley fit however, i am not so sure that you could get the front panel i/o, lights or switches to work without rewireing. And i dont remember if the cpu heatsink screws to the case or if it has its own backplate. If it screws to the case it wont fit but Im fairly sure it has its own removable backplate so it should be fine. Ive always done it the otherway around by putting lenovo main boards in gaming pc cases.

Hi,   I have a M91p tower, 7052-A8U, with the factory 2 port AMD 5450 card installed.   According to the data sheet, this AMD card "works with the Intel HD Graphics to support four independent monitors."   I have not been able to get a 3rd monitor on either internal port to work at the same time as the AMD ports (selecting the IGP in the BIOS video will enable the internal ports, but disable the AMD.)

Is there a trick to making them all work?  I can't be the first one needing more than 2 monitors (I will need 4 total.)

More info:  factory Win 7 64-bit SP1;  I re-installed the current AMD software and drivers from the Lenovo website for this system, Intel HD graphics and BIOS updated.  Video is set to "Auto" in the BIOS (was the default), all monitors are the same 1920 x 1080 resolution. Clicking detect in Windows or AMD Catalyst shows only the two AMD connected monitors.

I spent an hour on the phone with Lenovo (IBM) tech support, no joy.   They were going build a system to test, and call back, but haven't heard from them.

TIA for any information or suggestions.   Alan.

A:Lenovo ThinkCentre M71e - M900: 3 & 4 monitor support (three, four)

Never mind, I found the answer -- why isn't this in the User Guide???   And yes, it does work!

Enabling multiple monitor support -  Edge 71, 72, 91, 92; E73, M71e, M81, M82, M73, M83, M83p, M91, ...

Symptom:  Unable to configure more than two displays while 3 or more are attached to the system using a PCI-Express video adapter graphics card and the Intel HD Graphics.

Solution:  Default BIOS setting for the video Devices is [AUTO] and must be changed to [IGD] and then enable Multi-Monitor Support in the IGD section in BIOS video Setup, F10 Save and exit.

The following BIOS settings are required:
Select Active Video = IGDMulti-Monitor Support = Enabled

Does any one out there know how to use CA's Britestore Arc Server Back up v 11.5 sp 1. It is running on small business server 2003 with exchange. I am new to this company, they have been using this program , changing the tapes every day but they were backing up nothing. The guy who had set it up had it running incremental backups but told the operator to erase the tapes every night. I have it backing up data at least but our back up is too large for the zip drives tape and I can't get it to recognize the zip drive as a removable drive and therefore it won't let me change the tape to continue the back up on a second media. Most backups are incomplete even when I have it compress the data. There is no manual herefor the software and the CA site does not offer much unless you pay for support which this office cannot do at this time.

I have not even been able to set up a rotation scheme with this program. I don't feel comfortable that this is a good back up solution and I have not tried to restore a file to test it. I've used Veritas in the past and that was much simpler to figure out. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A:ThinkCentre M91p motherboard and ECC RAM??

My question goes like this : On a out-of-warranty ThinkCentre M91p, if we replace the standard CPU (i5) with a socket compatible Xeon CPU, will the motherboard support ECC RAM?

No.  It's the Intel Chipset that interfaces to memory, and only workstation and server Chipsets support ECC.  Check the specs for your desktop Chipset if you like.

Also, just because a processor will fit into the socket, does not mean it will be supported by the BIOS.   Sometimes there is overlap between ThinkCentres and ThinkStations which do use Xeons.   If so, that Thinkstation model will be listed on your BIOS download page, but for unknown reasons that upgrade does not always work.

A:Thinkcentre E73 sff's motherboard supported cpu upgrades?

Copied (and edited) from another thread, but applies to your system:

Other ThinkCentre owners have had decent success upgrading to specific processors that had been installed at the factory during it's entire lifecycle.   (Update to the latest BIOS before any hardware or OS upgrade enough ahead of time to ensure the BIOS is good)

A good indicator of whether a processor upgrade can work is to Google your system type and 4-digit model number (for example 'Edge 71, 1578'), if you find a matching system with a processor that you are interested in using, then on 2 browser pages with Lenovo support, input the full 7-digit model numbers to both systems, go to the BIOS download page, and if they have the exact same BIOS filename, then there's high confidence that motherboards and related technology is the same/compatible, and the other processor will work in your system.

I did that after I found the 1578-L4U system on Google.  And I have high confidence that a i5-2500S will work.   Specifically that 'S' processor.   Because one i5-2500 variant works, does not mean others will, unless they are able to go through the above process as well.   'K's are not used by Lenovo on ThinkCentres, and I doubt they will work.

A Lenovo motherboard is not like a Asus or Gigabyte where you can install any processor that will work with the installed Chipset.

Hi All,  I have recently post a question about which would be best processor for my PC and  I received an excellent and quick answer: Check the HMM Hardware Maintenance Manual. And that triggered on me next doubt. The manual informs the compatible hardware at the time of the PC was released. So I thought that probbaly some post released processors could also be compatible. After checking the HMM, the suggested processors for Motherboard: m34780m v. 1.0 FRU 89Y1256 were - Up to 95 watt- C2/C3/Rev 45nm- Up to AM3- Up to 4 cores- Up to 3.10GHz I know, correct me if I'm wrong, that my motherboard wont work if processor dont comply with:-45nm-AM3 socket Those 95watt would be the limit if I do not upgrade the cooler. But what about speed and cores?Which is the limiting factor or is a combination?Any other factor to consider? As per HMM Im considering:Phenom II X4 945 (3.00GHz, 8M Total Cache, AM3, 95W)Phenom II X4 B95 (3.0GHz, 8M Total Cache, AM3, 95W) But I wonder whether following models could work:AMD Phenom II X6 1065T 95W AMD Phenom II X4 960T 95WAMD Phenom II X4 850 95WAMD Phenom II X4 955 95WComments will be much appreciated!

If the process for your machine is similar to that for ThinkPads, then the Lenovo-authorized servicer will have the software tools to set the info in your BIOS. These tools are not available to end users / consumers.

Im trying to install windows xp professional onto my ibm thinkcentre(mt-m 811324u) machine. I get as far as the following comment. Please wait while setup copies files to windows installation folders, set up copying files.

After that operation is completed the machine reboots, this is where my problem lies, if I do nothing the machine continues to reboot over and over without stopping. If I interrupt the reboot and direct the boot up to drive D where the xp disc is , it merely starts the whole installation process again.

Boot off of the XP CD and choose to Delete the Partition, Create a New Partition, and Format the partition NTFS, do not do a Quick Format, this will take longer but will test the integrity of the drive.) Hi all, I am in need of installing a second disk drive for my ThinkCentre E53 10AS. I read the manual, which has instructions on replacing the disk drive - it does mention that in order to install a second disk drive, to follow these same instructions! Of course, it would not be an identical process. For example, there are 3 SATA plugs on the mother board, SATA1, SATA2 (both red), and SATA3 (yellow). SATA1 is plugged into the HDD.

There is a box connected to the power button, that has two buttons on the back. SATA power and SATA data. The SATA power is connected to the HDD and the motherboard via a 4-wire cable. The SATA data is connected to the HDD via a ribbon SATA cable.

So, if I want to install a second HDD, do I use a SATA plug to connect it to the yellow SATA 3 plug?

Does the fact that the plug is yellow mean anything?

And finally, I have looked everywhere, but cannot figure out what the max HDD capacity would be for a secondary drive? I bought a WD Red 3TB. Hopeful it works?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

A:ThinkCentre (E53): need to install as secondary hard disk drive

According to the hardware maintenance manual for the E73, the two motherboard SATA connectors (which you say are red) are SATA3 which supports 6GB/s.  The third one (which you say is yellow) is SATA2 which supports 3GB/s.

Sinc you've bought a SATA3 drive, you should use the second red SATA3 connector to get maximum performance out of it.  Be sure you use a SATA3 data cable and not a SATA2 data cable, as that's part of the requirement to get SATA3 performance.

As far as drive capacity goes, there's no hardware limit pertaining to your E73.  However there IS a consideration depending on the fact that your drive is larger than 2TB.  In order for a new drive to be usable, it must be "partitioned" and "formatted with a file system".  And in order to use a drive larger than 2TB the partitioning technique must be GPT, and not MBR.

You can partition the new drive to have one or more partitions, but if you mistakenly use MBR as the partitioning technique only 2TB of the drive will be visible and usable for partitions.  And there will be a maximum of four "primary" partitions (or a maximum of three "primary" partitions and any number of "logical" partitions).  The extra 1TB of your new 3TB drive will be invisible and unusable.  And the largest MBR partition is also limited to 2TB.

In contrast, if you partition the drive using GPT (which is the modern partitioning method that is recommended), this method supports drives... Read more

Now the monitor is black and there is no available graphics to enter the bios, the safemode or anything else. I know a little, very little bit about computers but if someone could tell me how I can follow instructions to get my computer back up and running. Thank you for any input

Hi!
I've just received a M710T (product code 10M9000CIX - i7-7700 + m.2 ssd + 8gb ddr4) which comes with a 180W PSU.
I'm from Italy so it was difficult to find the US version with 210W PSU, I see that the US version had it http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkCentre/ThinkCentre_M710_Tower

I was looking to buy the 210W as an aftermarket part but I cannot find the code / website where I can buy it.

The reason why I need this is because I've just buyed an Nvidia GT 1030 low profile which should consume about 25/30W.
Reading online I think that my PSU should hold up the load but I would like to power up my PSU for the future.

Another thing to consider is that Lenovo ships various M710T with 180W + NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 2GB + 7200rpm HDD.
The power consumption of the GT 730 is similar to the 1030 and my machine have an m.2 ssd that should consume less than the HDD.

So the questions are:
- is there anyone with my machine (180w) who is using a dedicated gpu without a problem?
- how and where I can find the 210W online (shipping to eu/italy)?

Thank you!

Mod:  edited the Subject line to add the reason for PSU change

A:ThinkCentre M710t - change 180W psu for a 210W - install GT 1030

As you wrote, systems with the 180w supply are available with the GT 730, which is similar in power to the GT 1030, so the 180w will power it no problem.  The reason this is possible, is that current generation processors use much less power than those from a few years ago, ie. 65w vs. 80 or 95w.

I am confident that there are some models with 210w available in Italy.  You could search the PSREF for system models ending in "IX", same as yours.   I imagine that in a couple of years you'll see good used 210w supplies on Ebay for reasonable prices.  The part number can be found in the parts list in the back of the HMM.  So that when you want to upgrade the GT 1030, you can do so.

Alan.

A:M71e - M900: 3 & 4 monitor support (three, four)

Hi,

I'm looking for help regarding my old mother's PC, a Lenovo M58 6303. Here are its caracteristics: https://imgur.com/a/KpR36ea
The PC is quite slow from time to time, with regular "no longer responding" frames when she wants to switch between Excel/Chrome tabs.
I saw that the processor but mostly the RAM are often high %, even with low activity (30% memory used when idle). The PC being mainly used for office application/web surfing, with some flash games/youtube for the grand children, I was thinking of adding a small SSD (max 120, in addition to the current HDD) with a little more RAM. The idea is basically how to improve it while spending as little as possible.

Regarding the RAM, the PC has 2 DDR3 modules of 2+1go. When I opened it,I saw 4 slots, 2 green, 2 blue. Based on what I found on Internet and Lenovo docs, I can upgrade it up to 8go - even though that much isn't necessary - with max 2go modules at 1066 mhz.Crucial websites suggests 4gb 1600 Udimm modules. Another website offers me instead PC3-8500 at 1066 mhz. If the PC only supports up to 1066 mhz, I guess there is basically no interest in buying 1600 (unless a future use on another PC ?) instead of 1066 mhz. However, I read on forums that, contrary to what Lenovo manual says, and based on "AKA Dodson sheet" sales book, the PC can actual...
