Can't mute laptop and play through screen only

Q: Can't mute laptop and play through screen only

Whenever I try and play a video or clip using the laptop and projecting through a television screen using WPS or HDMI the sound is controlled through the laptop and cannot be muted without affecting the TV. What I need to happen is to be able to turn the sound off at the laptop and leave it on through the TV to avoid a disjointed viewing experience. Thanks in anticipation.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Try the following. Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63408.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, shutdown the notebook. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed,... Can I play a video from my laptop and have it "project" onto our large tv using the s cable outlet on the tv. If so, what program do I need to run. Or is there some place in Vista I go to do this.

This should be built into the Toshiba, but you're going to have to go to Help and Support for the exact instructions. On my desktop I've got to have a cable plugged into the TV, then I've got to open the Windows Media Center and get it to recognize the TV. After that it's fairly easy to display.

Hi all

I have a problem with my fresh install of Windows 8.1. In the settings menu I have enabled the option to play a slideshow on the lockscreen and that when my PC is inactive it will show the lock screen instead of turning off the screen
For testing purposes I have set the screen turn off timer to 1 minute, but here's what happens:
After that one minute, the screen will dim slightly for a brief moment as if it wants to turn off the screen/go to the lockscreen slideshow. Then one minute later, it will do the exact thing again. Like it's being waked the second it wants to turn off the screen
Is anyone able to help me? It would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

A:Laptop won't turn off screen and play slideshow

It would be better to make a Photo Gallery Screensaver and use that, just point it to the pics you want to use in the screensaver setup.

I think the very settings you used to set up the Lockscreen Slideshow are preventing it from Locking. I don't know if you can tell your system to go to a Lockscreen after a certain period, it's either a screensaver or OFF. I'll try to set this up on my test machine and see if the same thing happens.

Hi, Can you post back with the following details. 1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - you can usually get this by holding down the fn key and pressing esc, otherwise see Here for a guide on locating this information. 2.  Hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers - what devices are listed here? Regards, DP-K

I have this pain in the ass problem with HP's mute button on my nc8430 laptop (Hp quick launch buttons). The core of the problem is that the system mutes the sound by default and the orange light on the button is always on. In reality that means that anytime I want to play something with sounds (mp3, movie, flash online video,..) the system needs like 10 seconds to turn on the sound card and after I finish playing the media file it again goes back to mute.

I tried installing/uninstalling different versions of "uncompatible" HP's QLB drivers, installing differend sound card drivers but nothing helps. The sound comes out everytime, except it needs 10+ secs every fuc***** time!?

If anyone has similar problems and found any solutions I'd be most grateful!!

Hi, recently I bought a new keyboard with multimedia keys
Model : Microsoft Wireless keyboard 1000
All the keys are working fine, I also installed the latest drivers and Intellitype Pro to the correct OS i'm using.
However, when I press the mute/unmute button, the volume bar shows up, but does not actually mute. It seems like it flashed the mute symbol for half a second but it still just stay unmute. I tried using the default Microsoft sound driver and the latest Realtek sound driver but still no luck.
I also tried turning HID services on and off but still the same
BUT, I remember the mute button WORKING until a few days ago.

I don't know if it is due to the Windows Update, or something to do with my motherboard driver or something else. The roll back driver option is greyed out in Device Manager so I don't assume that is the problem..

I'm currently using:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000
YAMAHA speakers YST-M15 (really old model)
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5859
ASUS M3A78-EM Motherboard

I'm really confused because if all the multimedia keys are working then it should not be a driver problem. If the volume up/down is working then it should not be speaker problem. It is ONLY the mute button that is not working.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

THE QUESTION:
- How do I mute the laptop speakers while still getting sound out of my headphones? So even if I pull my headphones out, still no sound comes out of the speakers.

FOLLOW UP:
- As a laptop user, you know that most of the time we work in quite areas such as libraries or night flights. When you accidently pull the headphones jack out, your music blasts causing a lot of unnecessary disturbance.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Dell Inspiron 5150, Windows XP, SigmaTel Audio C-Major.

IS IT POSSIBLE:
- YES. It was for the past 3 years until a few days a go. I say this because I used to achieve this by checking the 1 PC spk Mute checkbox under ADVANCED in the Volume Control panel. I recently had to reinstall the SigmaTel driver and now when I check the 1 PC spk Mute checkbox, It mutes EVERYTHING including the headphones.

WHAT I'VE TRIED:
- Rolling back SigmaTel driver: not possible since the original was uninstalled.
- Installing the SigmaTel driver from the dell website
- Installing the SigmaTel driver from the drivers CD
- Searching the net. Most results suggested checking the PC spk Mute checkbox, but as mentioned earlier, now it mutes my headphones as well.
Any suggestions are welcome and very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I'm having some trouble with the sound on my laptop.  I have a HP Envy 17-3270NR.  My daughter spilled apple juice on it a while back.  I opened it up and cleaned up as much as I could, then sat it in front of a fan for a week before trying to boot it up again.  To my surprise, it worked!  In fact, there was nothing wrong with it, including the sound.  Everything worked.  Even though it was working I still felt I should open it up and give it a proper cleaning.  I'd had some overheating issues in the past and thought this would be a good opportunity to reapply thermal paste to the CPU and GPU and clean off any juice residue I'd missed.  I took it apart carefully and cleaned the motherboard with a Qtip and alcohol.  I reapplied thermal paste to the CPU and GPU, blew the dust off the fans and put it back together.  After reassembly, the mute light below the beats volume knob was lit up.  Pressing the mute button has no effect on the light, it's always lit up.  When I press the mute button, the onscreen mute indicators change but the mute light on the top cover always stays lit.  More importantly, there is no sound at all.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers.  I've tried the headphone jacks and external speakers.  Nothing has worked.  I've tried taking it apart and putting it back together a few times but no luck.  I thought maybe I messed up the routing of the r... Recently our secretary informed me that in the past 2-3 months she had a strange occurrence twice:
The 3040 micro (running windows 10) was locked and making a beeping sound (she couldn't describe the pattern, but must had been very noisy since she mistook it with an alarm going off)
On the monitor there was a blue (not 100% sure about the color) screen, with a big computer icon in the center, no description or text whatsoever, no windows taskbar or anything. Underneath this central icon, was a smaller one with a speaker icon that you could click on (from what she explained the mouse was working) muting the beeping sound.
The only escape route was the power button of the computer.
At first I thought it must have been the new Windows 10 BSOD. When I googled it though, I couldn't find any similar incident, the BSOD appears different from her description too. I checked the event log, but there was nothing critical or error that I couldn't account for. It has Kaspersky internet security installed and it's up to date so I doubt it's some virus/malware; Plus the computer is new (4-5 months).
Now I'm wondering if it was indicative of hardware failure or power surge. I asked her to take a photo next time she sees it, but I thought I'd ask here in the meantime.  - I've seen computers coming up with a screen from the MoBo informing me that the computer was locked in order to avoid damage from a power surge that just happened. "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card."

I clicked Web Help and it said the following:
"Windows Media Player error C00D1163
You got an error because there's a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card.
In some cases, you can resolve the problem by updating the device driver for your video card. Here's how:

Check Windows Update for any available video card updates or checking your PC or video card manufacturer's website for an updated driver.

If you're running Windows 7, you can try to fix the problem by using the Windows Media Player DVD troubleshooter.
In general, to play DVDs, you must have a DVD-ROM drive and a compatible software or hardware DVD decoder installed on your PC. If you don't have these, DVD commands and options won't appear in the Player and you can't play DVDs. For more information about DVD decoders, see plug-ins and add-ons for Windows Media Player."

I used the troubleshooter but it didn't help and I looked at the plug-ins and add-ons for Windows Media Player and nothing was useful.

Windows 7 comes with Windows Media Center built into it.

Have you tried setting it up and using it for playing those DVD videos?

I couldn't paste the computer specifications because I am not on the laptop but another PC.

Toshiba laptop won't recognize DVD-RW's, but will play CD-RW's. I am at a loss as to why this is.
Would appreciate any solution. If this information doesn't help, I will go to the laptop with the question and post it again with the specs. Thanks!!

I made a cd in Windows Movie Maker, to run at a party, but it won't work on any other computer but my own, How can I make it work on a laptop?

A:CD will not play on laptop

Your burner is likely out of alignment, or the laptop burner is worn out. If you have given it heavy use, it is worn out. Time for another.

Hwy__14b wrote:how  do i get my hp  laptop to play cds Hi, What is your laptop ? All Windows HP laptops which have ODD (Optival Disc Drive aka CD/DVD drive) have pre-installed software to allow you to play CD's, DVD's and BD's (not all machine). Nearly all of them have Cyberlink DVDPower (or similar name). Did you upgrade/downgrade your laptop ?  Again, what is it and what is it running now ? Please use the following instructions to find out the model/product of your machine:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108Regards.

I put in a random dvd to see if it would automatically start playing, come to find out it doesn't. I have windows media player, I have the "use autoplay for all media and devices" box checked in hardware and sound so whats going on?

A:DVD won't play in laptop

Unfortunately Windows 8 and later does not support DVD playback, unless you have Windows Media Center;
however, it's just as easy to use VLC Media Player.

Hoping someone can help me, I recently purchased a HP Pavillion dv6 notebook, with a blu ray player, I can play some dvd's but now I cant seem to play any, it comes up saying it's on region 2 and does not recognize the region.

Now I have tried to change the region by clicking on "australia" and "ok" but nothing saved, now it's saying I only have one change left.

I have gone through Windows troubleshooter, "find and fix" the message I got was "windows does not detect a dvd playback device on your computer"

The dvd's I have watched I viewed through Cyberlink power dvd. I want to be able to watch both dvd's and blu ray's.

Kindest Regards

Kasey
