Slow speed video + running games

Q: Slow speed video + running games

Hello,

heres my pc spec, im not sure if its the correct forum,
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...312&CatId=4928
the only thing I replaced was this
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...ampaign=CANLET
im running the last windows patch and driver for everything direct x , 3d card

I used to run games like skyrim or team fortress, with decent definition with no lag , now I cant even run it, its very slow, cant even play it, even when watching streaming video online, its lagging out
I have the minimum program running in backgroup, I recently did a format, I try to keep it simple on it , most settings on performance

Any idea how to improve this ? Id like to play games and run them smooth, my budjet is a bit limited and my skills
Any guides or ideas programs, what to do, or hardware to replace, cheap scenario prefered, I still want to keep it

Thanks a lot

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello!

Have a relatively new alienware laptop, and up until a week ago ran every game at top graphic settings like a dream.
Now it runs even older games like world of warcraft at around 4 frames per second with barely anything going on.

The laptop was supposed to come with a 1g geforce card, 260x or something and i never really checked the system info thing windows has until now. If i bring it up it shows my video card as a Geforce 9400m with 256mb....

Is it possible some driver swap happened and now its bugging out? Or did the *******s give me a garbage.Im far to stupid to open up the computer and know what im looking for.... Calling dell and sitting on hold all day drives me nuts so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I have installed superanti spyware and that found some stuff to delete, Im quite computer illiterate, the internet is running at about 4 or 5 for speed and it should be 8 according the internet provider, they said everything is fine from their end, however I may have programs running on the computer that shouldnt be and are slowing it down, Im not sure if this is a spyware issue, virus, program not needed? Under the windows task manager the system idle process is 98 under the cpu, everything else is 0, I dont know if that makes a difference?

First time here so here goes

I have a Fujisu Siemens, Esprimo Mobile laptop with Vista Home Premium. I used to be able to play video files but now all I get is the sound and nothing else when I play on Windows Media Player or winamp. When I try it on Core Media Player I get an error screen.
For some reason, I can view videos fine on the internet.

I've also tried to play some games (Halo, Medal of Honour:Allied Assault) and it just says I have problems with something with direct x

I looked around on google and tried looking at this and found out about running "dxdiag", here is what it said in the display tab

Also here is what the error screen was like with Core Media Player

Your log shows that you're using IObit Advanced SystemCare 4, so it's very possible that its use has damaged the Windows operating system and broken some of your programs.

If you've been using any other cleaner/booster/optimizer/tuneup type programs, that increases the risk even more of that occurring.

These programs do nothing to improve speed and performance nor perform "miracle cures".

Hi,

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installed for probably a year. For the past few months, the computer's been running pretty slow. The OS takes long to completely boot, and by 'completely boot' I mean the time when you can launch programs. That is, after the OS has fully loaded all of its processes.

Symptoms of slow speed:

Launching a certain 1GB installation (.exe) file causes Windows Explorer to freeze, which requires manually terminating its process and then restarting it.
Start Menu search takes relatively long to show results.
Desktop icons automatically refresh when closing some Windows Explorer windows.
Windows Explorer permanently/temporarily freezes when using it. It also takes very long to scan drives (that is: partitions, DVD drives, etc...).
How do I go about finding the root of this evil?

Update: Looks like all of the problems were solved merely by moving the 1GB .exe file from D drive to C drive. Now everything is as speedy as it should be.

My computer runs slowly with some games, but not others. For instance, I can run Bioshock jsut fine, but Amercian McGee's Alice runs slowly. I am using windows Vista, and have Dual-monitors. I know that Toribash runs fine when I have one monitor enabled, but runs slowly when both are enabled. I have two graphics cards, a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GT for my main monitor and a onboard NVIDEA 6150 GeForce for my secondary monitor. Every single spore prototype that I tries also runs slowly. And when I say slowly, I mean mouse position updates about once every few seconds, jumps around, and makes it near impossible to clikc anything. I can see individual frames during fade-ins, and cameras jump from a mile out to close up of the ground instantly.
Any suggestions?

Greetings,

I'm not too familiar with windows as I've been using mac for several years. I bought a windows computer to play games with. Mainly World of Warcraft.

I've managed to play WoW with high settings until a couple of days ago, then I noticed that the game is running very very slow no matter what settings I'm using. So I figured I might have a virus. And searched through countless websites about how to restore windows.

I found out that my samsung laptop had a program called samsung recovery solution 5. So I clicked to get a full restore. I later found out that it only restored the C drive and not the D drive as well. I had WoW installed on D drive, so I figured I should check if it made any difference. Loaded up WoW and I could play smoothly. After about 10 minutes it started lagging again and was unplayable. World of Warcraft is not the only game that runs slow. Minecraft, Assassins Creed and pretty much all of my games are running slow after a couple of minutes.

Now I'm starting to wonder if it is the computer itself which makes the games run so slowly. My computer is getting very warm after just a couple of minutes of gaming and I've read that it might slow down the computer performance.

Do you guys have any suggestions to what I could do? I bought the laptop a year ago.

A:Games are running very slow lately

Hello Cronics and welcome to Seven Forums.

Laptops are notorious for heat issues while gaming. That could be a definite slowdown. There are free tools that can give you real-time temps for CPU and GPU while your computer is at idle or under load. I've read that 80C is approaching max temp. Other articles have said anything over 60C should be viewed with caution. A few free monitoring tools:

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

http://gtopala.com/ (SIW by Gabriel Topala)

Make sure there's no dust build up around the vents (usually on the bottom and sides.) Don't place laptop on your lap or any soft, cushiony surface like a pillow. If everything else is working as expected you might consider investing in a laptop cooling pad. They could decrease temps by 5 - 10 degrees or more depending on construction. Some pads have one fan, others as many as three:

A while back (laptop isn't mine), the user noticed that it was now running very slow. Turns out the CPU speed is horribly lower than it should be. It's only running at 500 MHz (yes, 0.5 GHz) via a multiplier of 6x83.333 MHz even when under heavy load. I think the multiplier should be more like 26.
The issue isn't hardware related at all: I can take a test HDD, put it in, set it up with a fresh Win10 install and the CPU is fine... idling low, but jumping up high all the way to rated speed under load. But I'd like to save this existing Windows/app environment if at all possible, and fix the issue surgically.
I've tried updating the BIOS (there's also no BIOS settings worth anything or applicable as far as I can tell... it's pretty anaemic). I've also tried updating all the Win10 drivers HP has available for this model. No change.
Any thoughts or advice?
(My technical skill level is extremely high so feel free to ask me to do whatever or provide any info you need, without dumbing it down or painful hand-holding instruction.)

The title basically says it all.  I'm running Vista Home Premium on an HP G60-123CL Notebook PC.  I've attached a screenshot of the properties window. Start up is super long and it takes forever to import photos on to the hard drive from a photo card.  I understand that both the hardware and software I'm using are ancient but I figured there might be some actions I may be able to take to speed them up a little bit.

Thanks for any help you can be.

Since it's already maxed out with 3GB of RAM, about the only thing you could do is replace the old, s-l-o-w 5,400 RPM HD in it with a SSD.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version P07ABU.147.140421.SH) dates from 2014.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.  WARNING - if the computer might shut down during this procedure, please don't do it, as this may physically damage the computer and prevent it from booting.Although you appear to have a reasonable number of Windows Update hotfixes for this version of your OS, please double check for any new Windows Updates.  It only takes one update to cause a problem, so it's essential that you have all of them.  The actual number is not important.  Rather it's important that you checked manually, installed any available updates, and didn't experience any errors when checking or updating.Be careful with updating drivers on this system.  I have one and I updated my AMD video card with AMD drivers and wasn't able to get it to work until I wiped it and started over (Samsung uses an Intel signed AMD driver - arrrghhh!!!). Out of 10 memory dumps there were 7 different BSOD  (aka STOP or BugCheck) error codes.  The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. Website and graphic dodwnloads are slow and/or buffers endlessly. How can I improve my speed? My primary browser is Firefox. Download speed is .66 mbps with upload at .12 Mbps.

A:slow video/graphic speed

Your problem is centred around your connection, you have a poor one.

What connection speed were you offered when you took up this contract ?  If it was offered to you at significantly better than a download rate of 0.66 Mbps then this is something you should take up with your ISP.

Inside your house, you can try replacing the broadband filter unit and checking the wiring from your router to its connection with the main telephone socket. The best way to check your connection is to connect the router to your computer by cable, ethernet. If this shows a more reasonable connection speed it may help you to look at the position of your computer or the wi-fi unit you use it with. I have a desktop built into a standard tower and use a USB wi-fi dongle to connect. It is mounted as high up on the front of the case as I can get it. If it slips down by as little as 1/2 inch my connection drops by about 25%.

Carry out these checks, and if your performance is still bumping along at about 0.66Mbps, take it up with your ISP.

Hello people, I just put windows 7 on my Toshiba M305D-S4380 and I have loved it up until this point.
Any game that I try to run, runs way slower than I've previously been able to run them.
For instance, Garrysmod before was around 50 - 60 fps
Now, its around 20.
Ive tried to deal with this but I'm sick of my laptop not using its full potential.
Note that I HAVE been able to run these fast, so please do not post saying my laptop can't run them well. I once ran crysis on my laptop at low settings

Anyway, Specs:
Toshiba M305D-S4380
Ati Radeon 3100
4 gigs of ram
Amd turon ultra x2 @ 2.1 GHZ
250 gig HD

With vista they ran much faster, and yes, I did update my graphics card drivers, which seemed to help a little but not much. Help is appreciated
Edit: I shall try a vista dual boot, just to see if thats the problem.
Edit x2: I downloaded speedfan and it seems my laptop seems to be running abit hot. 70-80-90 degrees. Running a prime 95 test
Yep, runs at 70 idle and got to 96 on a prime 95

hi

I have never had this problem before. -

About 2 weeks ago my games (star wars battlefront +cod2) started running at slow framerates when i played online.

I put all graphics settings to low, shadows to off etc and it increases the rates but only to up around 40 fps from 25-30 fps.

I dont think its my internet because my ping stays around 40, and my web browsing goes at a fine speed.

I dont think it would by my graphics card because ive been running those games on this system for about a year. My computer useage stays at anywhere between 20-60 percent while palying games, but this was the case before this happened. I have updated and ran virus and spyware scanners and this problem still persists. Anyway heres my system.

I have recently purchased a new HP Pavillion laptop that has Windows 8 on it. Ever since I have been using it, I have noticed that all the games I play on Facebook run extremely slow. I mainly use Google Chrome, but have tried to see if other internet browsers have the same problem and they all run slow. I've checked to make sure that java, flash player and even shockwave are all up to date.

Is anyone able to help? Its starting to get really annoying.

Thanks

Hello k3lz1990,

Are you having any other problems with your new laptop? If not, I would check with others that play Facebook Games to see if they are having similar problems. You might also want to check your internet download and upload speeds and compare them with your Facebook counterparts as well. You can do an internet speed test here for reference:

Good luck.

I'm curious to know why this Acer aspired v3-551 runs games slow. Like Street fighter X Tekken can't run at max. Iron brigade, or even this MMO I play being FFXI (I get lag running everything on high)

Specs AMD Quad core processor A84500
AMD Radeon HD 7640g 512 MB
4GB DDR3
500 GB HDD

I play FFXI a lot and I can't even increase resolution a bit or some settings higher because I will begin to experience some lag "moving game camera slower then normal speed" is there a particular reason as to why this laptop is having problems with light weight games?
I have only updated GPU driver and replaced HDD with SSD (ive notice no improvements for any game other then pc booting in 5 seconds, and everything else OS wise is insane fast" I'm being told that if I update ram to gaming/better ram my experience will increase? Because this stock ram "sucks" so I'm looking at 8 GB 1600 HMZ, should I buy that, will it even help me, is stock ram from laptops in general just bad?

A:Laptop running games slow

It's a mobile low-end APU. You don't actually have a graphics card.

You need to turn down the graphical details in games.

RAM won't help you much, 4GB is OK.

(Its not choppy slow...it's just...slow ) SO i tried uninstalling it (wasn't fun) and when I successfully did the games still run slow. My question is...did IE8 install or update something that made the game slow?

Games running slow: Grand Chase, Rumble Fighter

ps: for some reason..one game (Pangya) is not slow...all 3 of the games are 3d so I do not know why...

I literally just received my new desktop today, and Ive updated my intel drivers and audio drivers and ran windows update a million and a half times. However, I have a problem where no matter what game I'm testing, (WoW and Dota 2 currently) my desktop is stuck at a weak 12-18fps. These are very not-intense games and changing graphics settings isnt making a difference at all. The games are just locked at fps in the teens no matter what, with little difference between 30 things on the screen and 2. I'm also getting a large amount of input lag, making things unplayable. It's running a fifth as well as my old desktop, which was a 32-bit vista computer with a radeon 5670 and an amd athlon 64 x2 5000+. AKA even a garbage computer from ten years ago with a seven year old GPU is absolutely smashing my brand new acer PC. =/ Can anyone help me with this? There doesnt appear to be any overheating or disk usage errors going on.

It gets annoying. Currently the only game i play is Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 (i don't play much, i'm waiting for guildwars ) and well, i guess it doesn't run slowly, but the fps is poor. I have the resolution set to 1024x768 and the anti-aliasing to "level 1" which i would assume is x2 because there are three levels and my video card supports up to x6.
Another instance was on the previous guildwars world preview event and on the beta weekend event, i played with terrible lag. My computer is better than my friend's computer, so i don't get it. I run spybot, AntiVir AVG and Ad-aware frequently, and i've checked my startup with Hijack This, so it isn't spyware or adware or a virus.

my system specs are:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1400MHz
640MB RAM (512 [installed myself, and increased the pagefile to 1.5x total ram] + 128)
Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2
Radeon 9600 256 mb memory
40 gb total space
26 gb used space
I have the dxdiag log if you need it.

I can say now that the problem does indeed lie with your hardware, you don't have much RAM, so an extra stick might not go amiss, 2GB is recommended for gaming, also, your GPU (graphics processing unit) isn't really gaming standards, it maybe for the casual gamer (built in games, older games), i'd consider getting a better Graphics card, sorry for the bad news, i know it wasnt the ... OK now heres my prob,
My PC meets and beats all of the recommended specs on all of the latest games but when I play them they are so jumpy that they are almost unplayable. Even games over 4 years old such as Mafia etc and Red Faction are having problems? Even the in game movies are jumping and stuttering.
I have all of the Adaware type programs installed, up to date virus checkers and the like and my PC is totally safe. I have even tried formatting the damn thing just to see if it could be any other programs causing the problems but even with just the basics installed to play games the problem is still there.

My PC specs are:
An Athalon XP 2000+ ~1.7GHz,
An ASUS A7V8X-MX SE Motherboard, BIOS: Pheonix - Award Bios V6.00 PG,
512mb DDR Ram,
A Hurcules Prophet Radeon 9200 SE with 128mb Ram,
Onboard SoundMAX Digital Audio,
A Maxtor 160GB HDD,
DVD RW,
I'm running WinXP Pro 5.1 Build 2600 with Service Pack 1,
And Direct-X 9.

I have narrowed the problem down to either something in the BIOS that I haven't set up properly or maybe something in Windows that needs configuring.
I also read an article in a PC mag on the problems page and a guy had some issues with games running slow and freezing etc and his answer was that he needed a more powerful power supply, could this be the problem? I believe I have a 350wat PSU so is this powerful enough to run all of my hardware?
Or one other idea is that maybe my fan on my CPU isn't cooling the PC enough?

Any ideas would be great... Read more

Hello all. I'm new to the forum, or any forum for that matter, never posted on one before. I need some help with my pc. As you can see by my PC specs, i have a good enough PC to run some games that are out now. However, I've been having problems with some games. All of my video card drivers are up to date, as well as direct x, and everything thing else i could possibly update on my computer, however I continue to have choppy games. My FPS is around 20 - 27 at loading area's and, on some games, in big area's. My PC should run most of the games fine, but for some reason, whether settings are lowered or raised, it doesn't very well. When playing Lara Croft: The Guardians of Light, any large explosion causes a frame rate drop to 20 for about 2 seconds. Another game is Mafia II, When loading from one area to another, as driving, the FPS slows to about 10-15fps. I know that this is mainly due to having to load new files, but i don't think it should be dropping that low. The last game i've having trouble with is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Frames are average of 25fps, but in outside area's and places with lots of sprites seem to drop to around 17-21fps. These frame rate drops are very irritating because i spent lots of money on my PC that i really couldn't afford, just so i'd be able to play games like these. HJT (below) looks ok to me. I did remove some BHOs, a couple of 'no name' things and a proxy settings item (before I read the instructions here not to!). Does it have to be a virus? And if not what else could it be?Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 09:47:51, on 28/12/2009Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgchsvx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgrsx.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\avgcsrvx.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\AVG\AVG9\Identity Protection\Agent\Bin\AVGIDSAgent.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\Program Files\Launch Manager\PowerKey.exeC:\Program Files\Launch Manager\HotkeyApp.exeC:\Program Files\Launch Manager\OSDCtrl.exeC:\Program Files\Launch Manager\Wb...
