I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Block Https

I'm not sure about blocking the protocol, but I believe it runs on TCP port 443, which you could block. I'm not so good with networking, though, which is probably where this should be, so I can't say that's a guaranteed fix. May I ask why you want to block it? Blocking that could cause legitimate sites to stop working, and would keep you from using secure logins on any sites you may need people on your network to use, which would make them more vulnerable to password sniffing and such. If you are just looking to block a few sites that use HTTPS, you should probably try to find another fix. Just my $.02.

I have been trying to block access to proxy sites without success. What I have done works on some but not all.

I've used a program called Internet Lock to block the port 443, but still I can access the proxy site.

I've put the name of the domain in the list of block sites, still it passes.

I tried to find out the IP address of the website, but I can't find it. Don't know if that would even work anyway.

One proxy site in particular seems to bypass all locks. https://unblockit.cc

If anyone knows how to block such sites, without losing access to gmail, yahoo mail, hotmail, it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

A:How do I block https(SSL) websites?

I think www.hidemyass.com will also bypass your locks. You can check its IP address using ping or nslookup. You can also block its ip address using your host file.

I am trying to block HTTPS access to social networking sites at work. the web filtering service we use is barracuda but they are not configured to block HTTPS only HTTP sessions.(unless they can, but we have not figured it out yet).
is it possible to block access via group policy in Active Directory on Windows server 2008? if yes, how do i do this?
Scenario: we manage a cloud service and users connect to our servers via RDS ( remote desktop Service) and all activity takes place on the servers. also some users use laptops but most are on dumb terminals.

A:How do i block HTTPS access to Social networking sites

You should be able to add the site name to the hosts file and set the address to 127.0.0.1 (localhost).

For example (blah.com): You can find the hosts file here:C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

The title says it all! Basically, I've been using AdFender (which I believe was recommended by this site) and it was working great. However, it seems that certain sites (like google and youtube) will only load as an https now, even if I'm logged out of the account. AdFender doesn't work on https sites, so now I'm bombarded with commercials and banner ads on videos: It's absolutely terrible!

So, can anyone either:
1. Recommend an adblocker that works on https sites?
2. Tell me how to run sites that default to https as an http?

Thanks for your time!

ADDITIONAL INFO: I forgot to mention that I am using Windows 8.1 and have had this problem on both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer.

A:How to block ads on https sites OR make the site load as an http?

Hello Guys,

I find this to be quite embarrassing, having an issue like this that I can't figure out.

Here's what I can't do.

1. Ping DG (Default Gateway)
2. Ping my IP (96.46.29.108)
3. Can't access my router via remote, even though its setup to allow it.

What I can do.

1. Access any web page.
2. Ping any website but my own IP/DG.
3. Play games & use the internet like usual.

I've forwarded the ports I use, and allowed all the programs to roll through the Firewall without issues. I'm not sure if my ICMP was disabled on my router, my family currently shut down my computer, so I can't remote in, and work on it.

I installed TeamViewer because LogMeIn isn't going to accept any "Free" connections anymore, and will require a paid subscription. I've got an older version of RealVNC installed, but I couldn't remember my serial key.

Sincerely,
Thomas

A:Ping DG, ftp block/httpd block

Is this from a remote location or from within the local LAN of the router? If remote, when you mean Default Gateway, is that the remote router you are trying to access or the default gateway used to access the internet?

Have you checked that the public IP address is current? Unless you have paid for a static IP address it is very possible for a different one to be assigned via DHCP by the ISP.

Try clearing your cache, Are you getting interrupts with your internet service? I believe Citrix will complain if your internet drops out while connected. Try running CCleaner, it will clear out all of your internet cache and other junk sitting on your machine.

Also you might want to run spyware scans. Download Windows Defender and Spybot search & destroy.

This is a c&p troubleshoot for https connect problems.

Verify that Internet Explorer Is Using 128-Bit Encryption:

In Internet Explorer, on the Help menu, click About Internet Explorer
The level of encryption on your computer appears next to the words Cipher Strength.
Verify that the Cipher Strength value appears as 128-bit
If the Cipher Strength is anything less then 128-bit, download the "Explorer Internet High Encryption Pack" to your computer's hard disk, and then install it.

Delete Temporary Internet Files
There's also a possibility of some corrupted files in your Temporary Internet Files (TIF) storage. You should clear these
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the General tab
Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files, and click OK when you are prompted to confirm the deletion

Configure Security settings for the Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer:
In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and select the Security tab
Select Trusted sites, and then click Default Level
Add the secure Web site you are trying to access to the Trusted sites zone. To do so, click Sites, type the address (URL) of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone box
Click Add, click OK, and then click Apply

Clear the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) slate and AutoComplete history:

Security has always been critical to the web, but challenges involved in site migration have inhibited HTTPS adoption for several years. In the interest of a safer web for all, at Google we?ve worked alongside many others across the online ecosystem to better understand and address these challenges, resulting in real change. A web with ubiquitous HTTPS is not the distant future. It?s happening now, with secure browsing becoming standard for users of Chrome.

Today, we?re adding a new section to the HTTPS Report Card in our Transparency Report that includes data about how HTTPS usage has been increasing over time. More than half of pages loaded and two-thirds of total time spent by Chrome desktop users occur via HTTPS, and we expect these metrics to continue their strong upward trajectory.
Percentage of pages loaded over HTTPS in Chrome

As the remainder of the web transitions to HTTPS, we?ll continue working to ensure that migrating to HTTPS is a no-brainer, providing business benefit beyond increased security. HTTPS currently enables the bestperformance the web offers and powerful features that benefit site conversions, including both new features such as service workers for offline support and web push notifications, and existing features such as credit card autofill and the HTML5 geolocation API that are too powerful to be used over non-secure HTTP. As with all major site migrations, there are certain steps webmasters should take to ensure that search ranking tra... Read more

A:https?

Oh dear, nope, it's not true, https connections are just for passwords, websites come across encrypted in https mode and decrypted when the site gets a handshake from your pc, it's just a more secure way of entering form info and passwords, but to be honest, if your computer isn't secure on the virus front, the https connection is irrelevant.

Hello.
I'm running W10 and IE11. Earlier my internet connection went down but now has come back up. There is a noise problem on my line and the disconnection is expected behaviour. But, since the connection came back my browser will only access https capable sites, no http. This is a pain because a lot of my Favourites are http only. As a matter of fact, even some https sites wont download. There are far too many of these instances to be just sites going down etc. Does this sound like a setting has changed somewhere, or maybe could the poor connection be causing an issue, even though everything was working as normal until the system went down for a while, and the noise problem is not new.

I wasn't sure whether to post this in Networking or here, so I did both. I apologize in advance if I should not have done so...

1) Assuming I have my own web server, how difficult is it to set up an https page?

2) Is it possible to set up an https page so that (non-secure) http pages would load in a frame such that the insecure data gets transmitted securely?

The impetus for this is that I when I access certain webpages from work - my personal (web-based) e-mail being a prime example - I *really* don't like the thought that members of our corporate IT department have clear, unencrypted access to my (personal/private) e-mail/data/etc.

I know there are remote access programs that would allow me to tunnel in to my machine at home, but our firewall at work is very restrictive.

There must be some way to do this...

A:Questions about https

I don't believe that you can do what you want.
To setup the HTTPS you need either a certificate issued by an trusted authority, or you can generate one on your webserver and just have to "accept" the security warning everytime, or install it on every machine you want to "trust" the site. As far as encrypting the unsecured data, it stays unsecured unless you use vpn software (very difficult if you have ports blocked on a company firewall) ]

Maybe you could setup some type of remote desktop running on port 80 on your home machine. Then use your machine's browser to access your email. To do this may require software that your company may not allow.

Being one of "those" IT guys: (not to offend, just offer my two cents)

1. I wouldn't have time to even try to capture packets or screen shots of every person that works at my job.

2. Unless they were suspective of doing something (wasting company time, resources) not appropriate, would they even ask that this task be done.

3. Most companies let you know up front that they "can" and "will" go through electronic transmissions, but rarely would do something so drastic.

4. If you don't want people to "see" it, then maybe you could wait to do it at home or an internet cafe (which is far worse than your work!)

What I don't understand, is why your ISP webmail is not https anyway? Most ISP's with webmail use this to prevent giving out login information ... Read more

Welcome to TSG! Is this one of the things you tried?:http://mellasviews.hubpages.com/hub/Easy-Fix-For-HTTP-Port-80-HTTPS-Port-443-and-FTP-21

A search I did found a few (fairly old) results that claimed to 'fix' this, assuming it's Internet Explorer that's causing the problem. At least two of the fixes involve checking the LAN settings under 'Internet Options' and either unchecking all the boxes (or just the Proxy Server option), depending which one you read.

I have no idea if any of the suggested solutions actually work so, if you use them, it must be at your own risk. If you create a Restore Point before you try them you should be able to undo anything that makes things worse.

This also happens when I login to websites that are usually secured by HTTPS and show the green lock.
I have even tried to download extensions for google chrome, such as "HTTPS Everywhere" and "KB SSL Enforcer". They worked at first on some websites and fixed the problem temporarily but then the symbol with the orange triangle lock continued to show up again. I ended up deleting those extensions. I have also tried to reinstall windows and the problem had mostly gone away for a short while but then again resurfaced. Can someone explain to me what's happening and how I can fix it.

A:How come HTTPS isn't secure for me when it usually is?

- Select Settings

-Scroll down settings until you see the 'Advanced settings' line at the bottom.

-Click on advanced settings

-Scroll down to the 'Change Proxy Settings' button - Click on this

- You should now see the 'Internet Properties' box

- Select 'Advanced' from the tabs at the top in the Internet Properties box
-Tick the box titled 'Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering' - (this is probably the first line under Accelerated Graphics) Click OK.

NOTE: To make the change effective you will have to restart your computer.

What I'm saying is that websites that use https, in Firefox for some reason it can't stay with the secure navigation always on, because the lock icon became a ! (exclamation) icon and always says the webpage is not encrypted at all.

Other browsers don't do this and always stay with https on. So what's the problem with Firefox? I like this browser but this issue is pissing me of.

A:Question about https

No mistakes, and a good question that I also would like to know, mainly because I hadn't ever checked.
You are aware that many sites only use HTTPS for the secure logon and revert to none secure for the rest of the site.
I will have to check this next time I go to my bank site.

Please Help!

I have cuteftp and am now trying to FTP some software to a secure area https://secure.webhoster.co.uk/asite

When I connect and accept the cert I think I get a problem.
The remote screen shows lots of nested file flolders (ie root/folder1/ root/folder2/....) and then programs in the root and 1 other folder.
The session log shows the following

Quote:

STATUS:> Receiving reply...
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 10:14:32 GMT
Server: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) mod_throttle/3.1.2 PHP/4.1.2 mod_ssl/2.8.14 OpenSSL/0.9.7c
X-Powered-By: PHP/4.1.2

Pragma: no-cache
Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=74
Connection: Keep-Alive
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/html

STATUS:> Downloading...
STATUS:> Transfer complete.

Now I cannot get to lower levels and I am wondering if I have a setup problem in FTP or on my site?!?!?

Confused! :angry2:

Suddenly I can't download videos because they all start with HTTPS. Is it something I did or can I do something to change that? An example:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=C-SllzH8D4A (link sent to me by e-mail
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ4fAO36-L4 (with a padlock before the address. I Googled it.)

I seem to be locked out!

Hello,
After having some PC problems and installing IE6 (previously IE5), I can't log onto ANY secure websites. I thought it was just Hotmail, but it is all secure connections with HTTPS in the web address.

I'm connecting to the net with AOL 5 which has worked for years, (I recently tried AOL 8).

I've tried various options in IE but none seem to work.

Any ideas?

I recently upgraded W98SE and IE6 from the MS site. I also uninstalled and reinstalled a newer version of Zone Alarm. Since then I am not able to access HTTPS pages or download files. I initially discovered this while trying to access secure pages at my banking website. If I use a proxy everything works fine but without a proxy no browser (3 tested) will work properly. I have spent considerable time with tech support at the bank and then my ISP. It appears that I have some port blocking because a proxy assigned port allows everything to work. Downloads only work through agents set to a proxy. When I run a route print there seems to be some redundancy with 11 entries when I am connected and 7 disconnected. My TCP/IP stacks look clean, no spyware, virus or trojans detected. I have seen other threads about problems with IE6 but I have problems with all browsers and download agents unless I use a proxy. I have uninstalled firewall and virus detection and closed all but essential background programs without resolution. What's up???

Easy. You use the proxy.
