Biohazard Defined

Q: Biohazard Defined

Laptop under warranty, including accidental damage, until spring, 2016. Sent it for repairs...blotches on screen and keyboard failure 4 days ago. Received it back today, july 10, w/ a note claiming device contains "biohardous material" and cannot ever be repaired by HP due to health danger to support techs. What the hell sort of biohazard can a computer contain? I'm elderly, live alone, keep the device on a table by itself. There is no radioactivity within hundreds of miles of here. I have NO health issues which would constitute a biohazard: early cataract, mild depression, occasional insomnia, high blood pressure. What constitutes a biohazard so dangerous that a tech's health might be endangered? I'm on a fixed income and cannot afford another computer. I am at a total loss. Is this some scam to avoid honoring a warranty on a not-too-popular device? Please advise. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am continually getting the error "Run Time error 1004: Application defined or object defined error," each time a user clicks one of the cells within this excel file. It comes up as apparently a visual basic error. I've search other sites and unfortunately do not know enough about macros or excel formulas to know what to do next, so I thought I would post about it here. One user apparently has no trouble opening it while every other user has the same issue. Here is the debug code:

Private Sub Worksheet_Deactivate()

End Sub

Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = -4142
Target.EntireRow.Interior.ColorIndex = 8
Target.EntireColumn.Interior.ColorIndex = 8
End Sub

The "Cells.Interior.ColorIndex = -4142" portion is highlighted in yellow, so I assume that's where the error is. From there, I'm not sure what to do to change it. Please let me know as soon as possible what direction I should take.

Thanks

A:run time error 1004 application defined or object defined error

To be honest...I would assume that the file is corrupt and try to replace it. All seemingly meaningful links on this error involve VBA coding and things that can go wrong with it...way overhead my head and out of my interest arena .

If it truly is a coding error (as seems implied), I would take it to the originator of that file, since it throws an error.

Very strange that e pluribus unum...manages to use it without problems .

Hello All,

Please help, my laptop is riddled with something thats made it basically unusable. It's taken me 4 hours to get to the stage where it would let me write this! Firstly, I have the red biohazard screen as a backdrop, i've read on other posts this is quite common. I also have several pop ups telling me that i should scan for spyware etc accompanied by 3 desktop icons that i cannot delete. And last but not least a warning advising me my pc is infected with a worm smtp32exe, or something like that. It hasn't done it for a while and i didn't write it down, sorry. Anyway, any ideas? Please write any reply in "Fisher Price" language as i'm a bit of a novice on such matters.

Thanks in advance,

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any help you might have. I'm familiar with computers, but I'm def not a pro.
My computer has been infected with a really nasty thing. It seems to have completely taken over my computer! I'll start at the beginning -
At first my husband wasn't able to access the internet so I told him to run spybot and adaware as well as Symantec. He did and they didn't catch anything. So he turned the computer off. When I got home and turned it back on, my wallpaper was a red screen with a biohazard symbol on it saying something about my privacy.I also could not access "my computer," "desktop properties," and a number of other functions. My "administrator" had apparently disabled that ability.
I have since tried to run SmitFraudFix (it will not run at all on the computer), SUPERAntispyware, McAffee, but to no avail. Symantec will no longer run. After running SUPERAntiSpyware, the extra icons are gone, but the rest of the problem remains. I have heard of trying Combofix, but I can't download it onto my computer. I was using a jump drive to transfer files from my husband's computer to mine, but now that drive is fried (no computer will read it).
I can't access the program to get an HJT file because I can't access the internet on that computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I really can't afford to just wipe the computer clean, I have a lot of valuable information ... Read more

Recently, my desktop has been popping up with this huge red biohazard symbol telling me to protect my computer from spyware. It's actually a window that can be closed or clicked on. I've been running Avast for ages now and it never picked up on whatever this is. I normally use Firefox while online, but now IE pops up with more messages about scanning my computer for spyware and tries to find a file from the Microsoft Office program CD's. I've went step by step through the suggested fixes, but it's still there. Here are my logs, any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

A:Biohazard Desktop thingy????

Please download SDFix from here and save it to your desktop

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.cmd to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Post that log in your next reply.

My XP computer recently was a victim of the Biohazard/Your Privacy Is In Danger Virus

After running HijackThis, Combofix, Adaware, Spybot, Norton and SuperAntiSpyware, I believe the virus is gone.

It was the SAS that finally killed the virus. I no longer have the biohazard on my desktop, and the antivirus popups have ceased.

However, there are two more problems.

The first is that my desktop has not fully returned to normal. Sometimes it is my original wallpaper with no icons, and other times there is a blank white wallpaper with my original icons. Right clicking on either wallpaper does not activate a screen.

Also, sometimes when I try to run a program, windows will keep popping up saying "cannot find 'file:///C:/WINDOWS/privacy_danger/index.htm' Make sure the path or Internet adress is correct."

The WINDOWS/privacy_danger file contained the images forming the biohazard. As such, I attempted to delete it. However, it always came back. Now it is deleted, but the pop-ups are asking where it went.

What do I do?

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!
Please close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of SDFix and make sure you are disconnected from the Internet after downloading the program but before extracting the files.
Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with SDFix and remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Serv... Read more

Welcome to TSG

Due you have a My Computer icon on your desktop?
Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible. Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.
Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(this is the drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix). DO NOT use it just yet.

Before we start with the fix, we need to fix the restrictions.
Navigate to the SDFix folder (usually C:\SDFix).
Right-Click on XP_VirusAlert.inf OR W2K_VirusAlert.inf depending on your Operating System.
XP for all versions of Windows XP and W2K for Windows 2000.
Click o Install
Your desktop may refresh a couple of times, don't be alarmed.
Please reboot into Safe Mode and follow the instructions below.

Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup [but before the Windows icon appears] press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Open the SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press ... Read more

I followed the guides on here to get rid of the biohazard virus/trojan. Would someone be so kind to look at the latest HJT log to tell me if it effectively clean? at some point one of the cleanup utilities cleaned my registry and so a few settings seem to have reset themselves (default browser Firefox, default desktop picture), and I hope that is normal. Hello Techguys!

I recently tried to watch a movie, however when I tried to open it, I got a error in windows media player and it told me to download a certain codec (however i deleted that file), it directed me to another side where I downloaded the codec, once I installed it my background was changed to a red biohazard background (that was clickable, however I didn't click it), also the clock in the startfield got some text added next to it saying "Virus Detected!", I also got some shield-like symbols that wanted me to install various anti-virus programs, I haven't installed any of them though.
Also I can't find two of my harddrives in the "My computer" or explorer windows.

I used my Anti Virus F-Secure Internet Security 2008 and it found 3 Viruses, 1 Spyware and 1 Riskware and i quarantied those. But my back ground did not change so i delited the folder C:\Windows\publik_danger and some more (i think it was like that, its near)
I found a thread here on these forums when trying to find a fix and did the steps suggested in it:
http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/639242-solved-red-biohazard-wallpaper-infection.html

however it didn't solve my problems and I ask for further assistance,I still have the logs from them if you wish me to post them this is the HijackThis log:

I have an HP Pavilion 752n running XP. My infection began 5 or 6 days ago. Its most obvious feature is the red biohazard wallpaper mentioned on several other threads, together with a lot of popups trying to scare me into buying the product whose author has infected me. My son has figured out that by ending explorer.exe and using the task manager we can operate in a sort of emergency light mode, but no one in the house is comfortable using our computer until I get this fixed.

Another page I ran across had recommended using Ad-aware and Spybot. I have run complete scans twice now. The first time I cleaned a few hundred items with Ad-aware, but received a message that an item could not be removed and was left with about 15 items that were not removed. Spybot detected a small number of spyware items, which I also removed. I then booted and called it a night without using the "emergency light" mode and was alarmed when I got the same symptoms the next day. Since then I ran both scans again today and again removed nearly 200 items with Ad-aware and 4 items with spybot. I then downloaded HijackThis and ran a log, which I will attach below. From the another of your threads I gather there might be a few more items you will need, but I'm not sure I should follow those directions further since your welcome guide says to start my own thread for this sort of infection.

Thanks in advance for your assistance! Here is the log:

Try theses first
I'll assume you are using XP or 2000.
Install AVG Antispyware, then run in SAFE MODE. How to start Windows in Safe Mode
This may take quite some time, an hour or so, depending on speed and infection
First go here and print out the instructions on install / scan with AVG

Be sure to check for the any updates to the programs after you install these.
Download and run ( formerly known as ewido) AVG Antispyware 7.5

Following these instructions Download and run Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 (with out tea timer option)

Download and run SUPERAntispyware, free version Home User

No exclusions for the liquid being a biohazard.I was at a coffee shop, and a friend bumped the table and knocked over water, coffe and tea. It spilled all over my computer. There were many witnesses.3 keys on the computer stopped working after this liquid spill. I contacted HP and they offered to send on site repair staff, but I couldn't take 6 hours off of work to wait for them to come. HP preffered for me to send in the computer anyhow. They confrimed the liquid spill of coffee. tea, and/or water is a covered event. They sent me a box and I mailed the computer back in to them. I took photos of the computer condition before shipping. I had a HP computer and purchased an HP accidental damage plan waranty. This plan covers accidental liquid spills. It has no exlcusions based on the type of liquid spill. NONE. It was dry on the outside and we had shaken out as much of the liquid as we could. I sent the computer in. When it got there, I immeidately got an email about a cracked LCD. It did not have a cracked LCD when I shipped it and it was well packed.I called them and they said someone would get back to me.I then got a text about an hour later stating my computer was being shipped back to me. I figured it had been repaired. They gave no info about the computer itself.I got the box on April 27th. There were no biohazardous or dangerous material labels on the outside of the box. I opened it and pulled out my computer. The inside of the box was wet. the computer was dripping with a ... Read more

I have a bunch of spyware cleaners popping up that say that my computer is infected and asks me to download these. I know they are "crapware". The background screen on my desktop is now bright red and it has a biohazard symbol that says something to the affect of "your computer is at risk".

Spyware doctor that I have keeps popping up saying that "malicious action blocked". Says it has blocked an application explorer.EXE attempting to write to the registry.

The bottom right hand corner where my clock used to be now says "Virus Alert!".

Hi - I have been grateful to find your site and hope that you can help me remove the remnants of whatever it is that has infected our computer. I have used several of the programs recommended on your site to others with a similar problem (SuperAntispyware, ATF-Cleaner, MBAM), and they appear to have taken care of most of the visible problems, but am still having the following problems:Upon start-up I receive the following two messages:"rundll32.exe-Bad imageThe application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\dsagplkq.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette"Then after closing that window, I receive this message:"RunDLLError loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\dsagplkq.dll%1 is not a valid Wind32 application."Windows Defender is still finding the following three things, and while they appear to have been quarantined by Norton, I am not able to remove them, as it says they are read-only:SoftwareBundler:Win32/YourSiteBarTrojanDownloader:Win32/PacerdTrojanDownloader:Win32/Agent.BIn addition, I don't know if this is related or not, but whenever Internet Explorer closes, I get the following message:"IEXPLORE.EXE-Application ErrorThe instruction at "0x749860b0" referenced memory at "0x00000000". Please Help,

I have been receiving pop-ups in IE7 that say "Warning: possible spyware or adware infection! Click here to scan your computer for spyware and adware...". I have run many scans (Trend Micro online, Avast!, Spybot SD) and although they find and change things, this pop-up still occurs. I am moderately techno savvy, so the thought of reg. and .dll cleaning is a little beyond me.

Also, I noticed that after a few days of these pop-ups, my desktop will be replaced by a red screen with biohazard symbols, stating "Your privacy (something)". I have managed to goto a last restore point which gets rid of the red screen, but I cannot go far enough back to get tid of the pop-ups. Therefore, in another couple of days of pop-ups, I get the red screen and have to restore again.

I have just downloaded the Trend Micro HijackThis, as I have seen others do with this problem, but I do not want to install it, yet, for feer of running too many anti-virus programs at the same time.

Please, help!
Any advice would be great!

Did you make sure that the settings on the monitor are proper? Sometimes it won't auto detect and you'll have to tell the monitor (through it's own menus) what to do.

A:No Array is defined

That's a message that your onboard RAID controller is trying to see if it has any drives attached to it forming an array of disks, and its not finding any. If its upsetting you, try disabling the onboard RAID (which I am guessing it is) in your machine's BIOS.

Dunno why that would make your other problem happen, though ("when in enter window, every program I enter will jump to another program,it keep blinking and fool around, how to settle the problem?") - I am not sure how that is related to the RAID controller issue.

would like to reformat hard dive, but new motherboard will not detect cdrom and floppy drives. when i boot up it says that there is no array defined..... so how do i find the cdrom so i can reformat.........thanks

A:no array defined

If your mother board won't pick up or reconsize the floppy or hard drive or cd when it starts to boot watch and somewhere on the screen usually bottom left corner you will see something like to enter setup press delete.

Do this and go into set up and have the motherboard find them and then all you will have to do is accept the settings and save and exit.

The floppy you might have to tell it that it is there or another problem might be you have the cables on backwards or a pin might have gotten bent.

I know the last suggestions you might think stupid but we all do make a mistake every now and then so it won't hurt to check. Not trying to insult your intelligence.

Also you might want to check the mother board jumper settings.

How to make this short...

Windows XP PC worked fine with "no array defined". I did NOTHING to change the array but PC hung up on screen stating "array defined, press <esc> to boot press <control><f7> for fast build. However, nothing happens when I push the stated keys or any other key.

I can get into setup and mess with the bios, which sadly I did, after which PC frooze while "checking ...IDE".

I went back into bios settings, again bad choice, as now I don't even get the "checking ide". PC freezes on blank screen.

Can this PC be saved?

Thanks in adavance,
kriswel

You need to re-setup your BIOS. Check your PC manuals or visit the PC manufacture's support web site for details.

How can we change that behaviour and remove the custom settings ?
