T480 SSD / HDD Adapter?

Q: T480 SSD / HDD Adapter?

I have an interesting dilemma. I purchase my t480 with an m.2 NVME drive and built-in adapter, but am now looking to put a larger capacity Samsung 860 pro which is, of course, the SATA type - not m.2.... Does Lenovo offer the standard SATA adapter / HDD cage for sale as an accessory? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a T480 that's about a year old. I've never had any issues with it until yesterday when it suddenly started complaining that the AC adapter (the original) has too low wattage. When I boot the laptop with the AC adapter plugged in, I get the following message: The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended model which was shipped with the system. To boot with the AC adapter, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system.Press Esc to continue. If I press Esc it boots as normal but then Windows shows a warning triangle on the battery icon in the notification area. If I click on the battery icon it says "Slow charger". I also think that it doesn't charge (or perhaps charges very slowly) since using the laptop seems to drain the battery. If I unplug the adapter and then plug it in again, it's still the same. However, if I boot the laptop without the AC adapter plugged in and then plug it in once Windows has started, it seems to work/charge as normal. I've also confirmed that it charges the battery when the laptop is turned off (though I don't know if it charges slower than normal).  I've found some old questions from others having the same problem (though with older laptop models), but I believe the suggested solutions won't work in my case (like reinstalling Thinkvantage Power Manager, which I don't have). I've also seen the notification on the website about the critical Thunderbolt software a... Hi all, My T480 (20L5) does not resume from sleep with the AC adapter plugged in on BIOS 1.17. The issue occurs both when resuming using the lid or the power button. Upon unplugging the AC adapter, the computer instantly resumes from sleep. The issue is resolved by reverting to BIOS 1.16. Issue occurs both in Windows 10 and in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (kernel ver. 4.15.0).

Hi,This is the first Lenovo Laptop bought by me.I am using the laptop for a few days and the impressions are overalling good, but, I have 2 problems:The first is with the 2 battery system.I tought that the first battery to discharge was the removal battery, but that is not the case. Do I have to change something in BIOS?The second problem is with the UltraDockStation. When I have 1 USB disk connected to the DockStation, I am unable to backup laptop to USB disk, or to transfer big files (10GBs for example) (from the laptop to USB 3.0 disk). It starts normally and then it freezes the transfer. If I connect the USB disk directly to the laptop this problem doesn't occur. All components area updated, with Lenovo Vantage.Anyone has this problems and are there any ways to solve it?Thank you

I can only respond to the 1st question.  See post below.  you cant change in Bios discharge priority.  Discharge priority depends on the wear level of the 2 batteries.

Hi,Recently bought a T480 with the 150MX Nvidia card. The laptop works great during normal operation during work etc but when I get home and want to play some games, nothing is working as it should. What happens is this:When I start the game everything is running good but after a few minutes I can see my CPU start to lower it's power limit (PL1) slowly towards 5W. It will stop at 5W never gaining any wattage back until i restart computer. The PL1 is at 15W when computer is newly booted. I have tried to uninstall the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework, this results in that the processor is fixed at 15W but after a while the iGPU will go crazy and goes to 100% leaving the CPU at 2W = 0.2Ghz. And I have to restart. So this is not a valid solution. All my power settings are on maximum performance ofc.I have tried almost everything I can think of and been browsing all kind of reddit threads without any long term solution.

After perusing this and other forums looking for a definitive answer, there seem to be dissenting opinions on whether using the drive caddy and adapter cable in the HDD bay will allow 2280 M.2 NVMe SSD drives to utilize all 4 PCIe lanes. I want to know if there is a reason to shop for a higher end M.2 drive if I can't extract full performance out of it.

A:T480 M.2 SSD Performance

I don't have one to test, but the platform spec for the T480 says that some of the T480 machines have SATA drives and some have this: "M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4"

To me, that means is should use 4 lanes

Hello all, Just received my sixth thinkpad in the last 23 years. It arrived yesterday.  It is a: T480, I7-8550U, 16GB(8+8), 512 M.2 SSD, iGPU, Win10 Pro The fan is really annoying.  It goes on and off constantly.  It seems to ramp up to full speed.  I have been reading about fan noise with this model all over the internet.  Is there a way for it to run constantly at a lower speed than the constant on and off?  My previous model was a T430 never had issues with fan noise (it was very quiet too when it ran). Currently running a test:  Not using the laptop at all.  Opened 1 tab on Chrome and have it sitting on cnn.com.  Also, opened one tab on Edge also on cnn.com.  Task manager open.  Chrome uses less CPU but more memory than Edge.  CPU is running between 15% and 20%.  Fan turns on every minute or so for about 20 to 30 seconds then goes off. It is loud and annoying going on and off.  Why can't it just be a constant lower speed?  On and off is ridiculous.  If this keeps up this machine is going back. Thanks for any replies and suggestions.

Then it wakes up, we have replaced his USB C adapter and cable to the monitor and it hasn't helped. Is there possibly some settings that turns off the USB C port after a time period? It's hard to pin point because it happens throughout the day. Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advanced.

I ordered a T480 with the Geforce MX150 option. Was surprised to see my delivered unit with Intel UHD 620 and simultaneously active with the Geforce GPU. The Intel GPU however is the default display adapter. Intel UHD 620 is active display adapterI've never quite seen this before. Desktop mainboard BIOS would typically disable the onboard GPU if slotted with an actual video card (leaving the OS blind to its presence), and all my previous laptops that I configured with a discrete GPU would have just that alone. Am I supposed to disable the UHD 620 in Device Manager in order to force the Geforce to take over? I don't see anything in the BIOS that can influence this (in fact it seems to suggest the UHD is in charge with its shared memory setting).

Hi everyone, today I upgraded the RAM and the SSD of my T480. I am absolutely not doing this for the first time and I was really careful. I removed the external battery and deactivated the internal battery before starting with the procedure. I used only ESD-safe tools and an ESD-wristband to make sure that the device doens't get damaged by static discharge. After installing the components, my device would no longer turn on. When I connect the charger, the power led flashes 3x but when I press the powervbutton nothing happens. No fan spin, no lights turning on, absolutly nothing.I then tried removing the RAM and the SSD and turning on the machine. But that didn't work as well. After that I tried removing all the power sources (internal and external battery, CMOS-battery), pressing the power button for 60 seconds and leaving the device for 1 hour before reconnecting everything. But it still can't turn it on. Do you guys have any idea what I could try to make my device work again? Thanks in advance. --resonance

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit laptop with WiFi and ethernet network adapters in use.  All available windows updates are installed.  I use Wi-Fi as my primary network connection to our office network and the internet beyond.  I use the ethernet
adapter to connect to cellular routers for troubleshooting and configuration.  In this use case, I want ALL my company and internet traffic to go over Wi-Fi and only local on-subnet traffic to go to the cellular router over ethernet.

On April 2nd, 3 updates from from Microsoft Update were installed:  KB4088881, KB4100480 and KB4099950.  Right after that, I noticed that when I plugged into a cellular router, my internet-directed traffic tried to go out through the cell router.
That router was not connected to a cell carrier (like AT&T or Verizon) at that time, so the traffic could not get anywhere beyond the router.  This was immediately noticeable because my email and other web browsing sessions I had opened suddenly couldn't
connect.
I opened the CMD window and did a ROUTE PRINT.  It showed the ethernet connection (192.168.13.xxx) with a lower metric than the Wi-Fi connection (192.168.128.xxx), even though in Control Panel > Network Connections > Advanced Settings > Adapters
and Bindings, the Wireless Network Connection is at the top of the list and the Local Area Connection is at the bottom of the list.

Hello, I would love to ask for some help!
I've recently purchased the newer Dell XPS 13 9360 Non-touch (not the 2 in 1) and am having some trouble with using an external monitor. The screen (on the external monitor) keeps on flickering and has a very unstable connection.
I've searched and found that apparently lowering the power output of the WIFI network adapter can fix this problem.
The problem is that the current XPS's wifi adapter doesn't allow the power output to be changed. The previous fixes were geared towards intel wifi adapters.
The general power settings for the computers doesn't show wifi card power controls.

I have updated all the drivers for the computer including the wireless adapter. Still the options doesn't change.

Has anyone found a way to get a stable external monitor to work with the Killer Wireless Adapter cards?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
-JDed

A:XPS 13 9360 External Monitor Flicker with USB C - HDMI Adapter [Killer Wireless Adapter]

For what it's worth: For me (XPS 13 9360, QHD, i7, 16 GB, Killer WiFi), external screens are perfectly stable, even with wireless being on relatively high throughput load, albeit not high power (energy) load.
I am connecting both HDMI and DisplayPort displays, each with cheap native USB-C adapters (i.e. through Thunderbolt). I also have full success with a Dell DA200, through its built-in HDMI graphics adapter.

Hi, everyone I just purchased anWWAN adapter (EM7355 FRU:04X6038) and installed it to my X240, the WWAN adapter was recognized by the system (Win7 professional 64bit) after installation and correctly displayed in "Device Management". However, the WLAN (Wifi) adapter was longer detected in the system, therefore I have no wifi access. I logged into my BIOS--> Security -->I/O port access,  the Wireless LAN turn on/off option was still there. Could anyone here give me hand on how to solve this problem? ThanksEric

It sounds like the power circuitry on the motherboard has gotten messed up.  Are you still under warranty?

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hey,
I have two problems so i will explain the scenario then number out the issue. I had a new hard drive installed, when i booted the laptop, it worked well. The wifi in my area is very low so I was told I can use a wireless adpter to "boost" the signal strength received. I was given a Encore ENUWI-N3 Wireless Adapter to use. I installed the utility program from the official website and the computer still did not recognise the device, so I deleted the program. I then lost connection to the internet, and at the time i thought the wifi can dropped (i later realised that was not the case since my phone's wifi was still connected). I then reinstalled the software ( the executible file was saved on the harddrive), and it give me the same message that there are no drivers for the adapter.

I shifted my attention to my failed internet connection, after troubleshooting it give me a error 28 message stating that there were no drivers installed for the Broadcom wireless adapter that is internally installed. I tried a system restore to before i tried installing the Encore adapter, and still nothing, the system continued to give me the same message and it registered in the "device manager" as unknown device named "ethernet controller" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I have been able to borrow a laptop and download the LAN adapter fron the ACER support website, and although it had no "set up.exe" file visible i was able to get... Read more

What is the purpose of all those links at the end of your post?

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters?

What, if any, warnings or errors (yellow or red) flags are anywhere in Device Manager?

While trying to connect by both ethernet and Wi-Fi ...

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

device manager under my Network adapter. I have my Intel Ethernet adapter listed and then underneath the bang with WAN Miniport (IP) #2. When I check the properties of the device It says it is not working properly. When I attempt to uninstall the device it tells me that the device cannot be removed because it is required to boot the system.

go into your bios and under boot options, remove network/internet as a boot option if it is listed.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1, things were working fine until about 100+ updates came through... and now these TAP-Windows Adapter V9 and TAP-Win32 Adapter OAS drivers are installing over and over again. I uninstall the drivers and they come back, I
disable them, and they re-enable themselves. I have looked up answers to this issue, and I do not use a VPN...so none of that applies to me.

The unfortunate part is that I get constant interruptions with my internet and don't even want to touch my laptop hardly anymore because of this...but I need to because I am trying to start a business and get back into school. The only way I can get the
internet to work again is to disable the drivers, and troubleshoot my wireless adapter. It renews the wireless adapter, the internet works for anywhere between one minute to an hour before I have to troubleshoot again.

HELP?? How to I block those drivers? There needs to be a Microsoft Removal Tool and a major update...
I tried to add a screenshot, but it took so long to verify me that I had already deleted it after 4 days.

Ok it's more than a week now and I'm not seeing any Tap-adapter, hopefully it will work for you guys too: untick all in IPv4 and IPv6, if another Tap appear, uninstall them both from device manager.
