Connect two external displays to T480S without doc

Q: Connect two external displays to T480S without doc

Hello, I have a Lenovo T480S running Linux and am trying to connect two external monitors without the use of a doc station. Since I cannot use both HDMI and USB-C ports at the same time as described in the documentation: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/pubs/t480s/html_en/index_en.html#Using_an_external_display_(topic... I connected as following : The first display is connected via HDMI to the HDMI port and is working without any problems. The second display is connected to the the USB-C (Thunderbolt 3 compatible) port, using an USB-C to HDMI cable like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075V5JK36/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But the second monitor does not work, even with the HDMI port not in use. Any pointers on how to connect two displays at the same time to the T480S without a doc ? Is that even supported ? Thanks and best regards,MMV.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi everyone!I recently purchased a T480s with the following specs:- i7 8550u- MX150 Graphics- 16GB of RAM- WQHD Display I am running a Setup with the following Displays: internal Display @ WQHD, external Display 1 @ WQHD, external Display 2 @ FHD.Everything works perfectly fine, if I connect External Display 1 via a Thunderbolt Dock and DisplayPort and External Display 2 via HDMI directly. The problem I encounter is the following:I have some "small Adapters" for Thunderbolt -> HDMI or Display Port. They used to work fine until yesterday, now all adapters, except for one (USB C -> HDMI, USB and USB-C) have stopped working. All I get is a message stating that there is a malfunctioning USB device.Funny part: All adapters work fine on a Dell XPS15, Lenovo MIIX 510 Tab, and so on. Whats the problem? I already tried System Restore to a few days ago, did not help... Thanks,Jakob

I'm trying to figure out on how to get a working setup where the T480s (20L7001UMX) is connected to a Pro Docking station 40AH0135EU.  The laptop has only the built-in GPU from Intel. What I would like is to have both the built-in display and two external displays. But my issue is that once I hopen up the laptop, one of the external displays go dead. Is this a feature as it should or am I missing something?

Hello,  I just bought the HP Spectre X360 15-bl001na and I want to connect it to my two externals LG monitors. Both are 1920x1080 and I want also the laptop screen to be active when I connect the monitors. I hope this is possible.  The monitors have HDMI ports. I have an HDMI splitter that I connect to the laptop HDMI port but only one monitor works that way. I suppose I need to connect the other monitor trough the USB 3.1 Type C port, using an HDMI converter? If yes, can I use this adaptor for example: http://www.emag.ro/adaptor-usb-3-0-tip-c-hdmi-multiport-4k-power-delivery-digitus-da-70838/pd/D7TL2D... and from the adaptor USB Type-C port can I connect this to have also GigabitChipset Realtek  active: http://www.pcgarage.ro/hub-uri-usb/sharkoon/3-port-usb-30-plus-rj45-gigabit-aluminium-hub-type-c-bla... ? Looking forward your answers. Thank you!Gabriel

Based off the information provided on this page: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029622 I am under the impression that when docked, the P50 should be able to support 4 external monitors, 5 displays including the P50 screen itself. I have one connected to VGA, the second to DVI, the third to DP (all 3 on dock) and have been trying to connect the 4th external using either the mDP or HDMI connections on the P50. When making the connection on the P50, nothing changes; nothing is updated when I attempt to detect additional displays. Does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong? Am I misinterpreting the dock information regarding number of external displays? Note: All 4 monitors are HP Z23i models.

I've been using my ProDock for well over 9 months with two displays connect to it.For some reason, I've always been forced to limit myself to one VGA connected display and one connected via HDMI or DisplayPort. Now today for some reason, it suddenly will only connect one at a time. The moment I connect the second display, they both turn off. If I connect one of them to the dock, that monitor will work fine with the laptop.Did some update roll out or what is happening here?

I'm trying to setup three external screens configuration and stumbled upon the following. I have 3 screens: 1. 4k (3840x2160) 60Hz2. 2560x1600 60Hz3. 1920x1200 60Hz I was hoping to use all possible outputs on the laptop (2 USB-C and HDMI), but apparently you can't do that - you can pick only two out of those three. I also tried using USB-C docking station, and again - it limits resolution to 1200p, which is not enough (4K display via USB-C, docking station via second USB-C and two screens 1200p and 1600p via docking station, the latter gets resolution only up to 1200p). So, I found this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Thunderbolt-DisplayPort-Compatible/dp/B01DYFI1OE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=....It's a Thunderbolt 3 splitter to two Display Port outputs, claiming to support two screens 4K at 60Hz. And it looks like laptop has Thunderbolt 3 ouput. So, will it support all my screens with full resolutions using that splitter? Again, I envision configuration to be:1. 4K display via 1st USB-C (this will be a miniDP adapter with power)2. Splitter via second (Thunderbolt 3), and two other screens (1920x1200 & 2560x1600) connected using that splitter. Will that work? Thanks,Yury

Hi all!! I'm trying to determine if I can utilize 3 external monitors in addition to the laptop screen. I have a T480s with a thinkpad USB - C Dock and my current setup is: - DP to DVI adapter from docking station (for one external monitor)- VGA from docking station (for one external monitor)- Built in laptop screen This works perfect but I'm trying to get a 3rd monitor to work as well. I have a HDMI to VGA adapter that I have tried from the laptop to the 3rd external monitor. It doesn't work. If I unhook the VGA from the dock (one of other monitors), the 3rd monitor will work as expected. It seems trying a 2nd VGA is causing the issue. The 3 monitors I have only have VGA and DVI. I'm thinking about buying either a USB C to DVI/VGA adapter OR a HDMI to DVI adapter but before I do that, I wanted to see if anyone knows if this will work. Sorry for the long message and thanks in advance to anyone that can help! Thanks,

This is more of an intrigue than an issue but I'm still curious as to why this happens. Issue: When placing a T480s on top of another T480s both machines will be forced into sleep mode.  How to reproduce: Line up a T480s on top of another T480s (or T480) and the device will go into sleep mode. I've Stacked T480 units and this does not happen this seems to only affect the T480s line. (These test were preformed on the latest bios/driver revisions) What I think maybe happening is that the T480s when stacked are triggering the lid closed sensor of the other unit. Since this is not the case for the T480 units we have I think it may be because of the thickness of the s models. Is this something that will eventually be fixed via bios update? or is this just a flaw in the T480s design? Thanks for in advanced for your response!

A:T480s is forced into sleep mode when in close proximity to T480/T480s

I've seen this happen in the past, it was due to how strong the magnets are that keep the lid shut.

Hello, So - the problem appears when you are trying to use external screen which one is connected to the docking station (there is only two DisPlay ports and no others dedicated to monitors). When you connect it first time - it's ok. But when you trying to un-dock and dock again - external screen says "no input" and goes down. In other words - external screen is not working. The same issue is described over there:https://support.lenovo.com/lt/en/solutions/ht081248 Mine docking station type is 40AH, but anyway, I tried to run ThinkPad Ultra Dock 135W firmware update - but update says "the firmware you are trying to install is older than the version already installed. My Docking Station: Power adapter is 135W. All drivers are up to date. Btw - I have many of those docking stations with machines. For some of them everything is fine. But seems the problem is with docking station. I have two docking stations on my desk right now. And my computer on one is working fine, but with other on - not. So, it's clear that the problem is with the docking station.

I know on Intels website, they state that the processor in this laptop cannot support 3 displays, but what I'm trying to do is just have 2 displaying, but both of them external.  I'm not sure if my laptop is broken or something as well, because when I close it even with "do nothing" selected for when I close the lid the external monitor does not become the default display, it stays as an extended display with the main desktop still on the laptops screen. Both monitors and their connections work until I try to connect them both at the same time, then one of them always goes to sleep. If this is even possible with this laptop, can someone point me in the right direction?

Hello! I'm looking at buying a 720 15, but it's really important to me that I'm able to run it in a "docked" configuration (i.e. plugged into a mess of cables on my desk) that operates two external 1920x1080 monitors at 60Hz if possible, 30Hz is acceptable.  I'd also like to simultaneously operate the computer's display panel.  I've seen many people talking about the StarTech MST hubs only enabling a single external monitor, but I don't know if that's only for [email protected]  Here's one such hub:https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-C-HDMI-Splitter-Thunderbolt/dp/B06XPVGQKY/ref=sr_1_3?s=elect...I just want to run my two FHD monitors, preferably by connecting the above hub.  Can anyone here confirm that this will work? If not, I'll have to forego the cool touch features and grab a P51 instead... Thanks! -Rodney

I have tried four different USB-C to HDMI adapters (Insignia, trendNET, Anker, CableCreations), each with various monitors (mainly projector systems -- which work with everyone else's computers and dongles -- but also with a television) and the Lenovo Yoga 910 is unable to interface with any of them. Yes, I am plugging into the correct USB-C port (although I've obviously tried the charging port each time just in case). There seems to be some type of acknowledgement; the computer and monitor both can "see" that something is plugged in, but are unable to communicate. I've also tried manually adjusting the resolution each time, again with no success. The display panel always states that no other display is detected. I purchased this notebook about a year ago for the specific purpose of making and giving presentations (I am a PhD student) and as of yet have been unable to use it for a single presentation. Please help. Note: I have checked the forums. These two threads discuss, but do not solve, the problem.

I want to get a new computer, that can power three displays at once. Preferably three external monitors,  maybe even four.  I was thinking of getting either an ultrabook, T430u or X1 Carbon. Or a think branded desktop.  Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

Solved!

Go to Solution.

A:T430u: How many external displays can it handle?

ThinkPad T430u can handle one internal, one through hdmi, and one through miniDP. So in 3 in total (natively). If you need additional LCD support, maybe consider an ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock, which allows you to add another 2 screens support per dock (for a total of 2 docks or 4 additional screens). X1 can can handle one miniDP external screen, not sure whether Displayport 1.2 passthrough works on them or not.

Hi folks, long time no see!

I'm looking to supplement my existing setup with an additional monitor - however, I'm not sure if what I want to do is possible. Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction. My setup is as follows:

HP Pavilion dm3 netbook
- VGA Out, HDMI Out

LG Flatron W2053TX
- VGA In, DVI In

I currently have the Flatron hooked up via VGA at a lovely 1600x900 (16:9) running as my main desktop, with the laptop displaying a 1366x768 (16:9) extended desktop. I want to be able to close my netbook and use two external monitors instead.

Now, that second monitor will be a Dell LCD with VGA In only. Question #1: If I buy an HDMI-to-DVI cable (or converter + normal cable), will I be able to simultaneously use both the Dell LCD and the LG Flatron as my displays?

Before you tell me this won't work, let me propose an alternative:

I recently ordered this port replicator from HP. It features VGA Out, and will receive video (along with oodles of other signals) from my netbook via USB. Question #2: If the HDMI + VGA solution above won't work, will I be able to simultaneously use both VGA Outs (the netbook's + the port replicator's) to achieve the same desired result?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Walker

A:Can my netbook support 2 external displays?

Walker I don't think what you want to do is possible. I do know that the HD 3200 does support up to 2 displays, but in your case one of them will be the laptop's own display with only one of either VGA or HDMI as an external. It only has 2 RAMDAC's on it and will have the same limitations as a desktop card (not counting the HD 5xxx series that support Eyefinity) in that you can only run 2 displays at a time. Guess that answers question $1.

For question #2 I don't see why it wouldn't work, as it is essentially an external video card with its own drivers and software.

Hello everybody, I've been scouring the internet for the answer to this question but haven't been able to find anything absolutely concrete. Does the P51S support three external displays + the built-in LCD, all at the same time? The Quadro M520 within claims to be able to do so. I have beeen attempting to set this up using two different docks - the USB-C ultra dock (40A80045US) and the 170W ultra dock (40A2017US) - and I've yet to get it working. Windows can see all four displays, but will only use three. If one attempts to extend the desktop to the fourth, it disables another monitor, keeping the total count at three. I've seen some topics about this already but it's always about the P51 - which seems to do it just fine as long as you know what ports to use.  If anybody has any additional information or insight, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all,

What I am exactly trying to do is this: for an outdoor football tournament, I am trying to connect 3 external displays to my laptop (2 VGA monitors and 1 HDTV with HDMI). Since I cannot see my laptop screen in the sun, I am using one VGA monitor as the primary display (since it's brighter). Then, I am extending my desktop to the other VGA monitor and the HDTV.

The one VGA monitor (4:3 ratio) will be my primary display with the control screen for the scoreboard.
The 2nd VGA monitor (4:3 ratio) will be an extended desktop for me to show the play clock.
The HDTV with HDMI connection (16:9 ratio) will be an extended desktop and have the actual scoreboard on it.

I am using a HP G60 laptop (2009 I think) with 1 VGA out and 1 HDMI out. Below are my specifications. I don't have very much money to use for this, so cheap/free alternatives would be best. Thanks for the help in advance!
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 2975 Mb
Graphics Card: VNC Mirror Driver, 3 Mb (Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family)
Motherboard: Wistron, 3612

A:3 External Displays, 1 Primary, 2 Extended

The laptop isn't likely able to drive 3 screens, not too mention only having two outputs. Your only alternative would likely be an external video card. I've not used any, so I can't make any recommendations.

Hi MATHEUS SERPA,
What is the current OS installed on the system?
I have checked and could not find a Dell Adapter compatible with your specific system model. However, these two are known to work with other Vostro models and it might or might not work on your machine. You probably need to try it out and let us know - http://dell.to/1Y9DDqo
Or if you are looking only to duplicate the display, you could get a HDMI splitter - usually priced under $10.
Also, write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.

Hi so I recently came to a problem.

It was my birthday and after asking a lot for this pc I had received a MacBook Air.

This was no issue to me for I had been happy to get anything at all, but I had purchased three monitors before that I was going to hook up.

I soon realized the MacBook had no HDMI no I purchased a Mini Display port to hdmi adapter. It worked! But for only one display. Then I saw a usb to hdmi and that worked but now it was only two displays and I had no other ways of getting three displays.

So I was wondering if anyone here knew a way to make that happen.

Also I installed win 10 on it using boot camp if that helps at all

Hi,

On my motherboard I have ati dual dvi + svideo output (asus eah3850).
I connect it to my computer lcd monitor(1st dvi), and my projector (2nd Dvi) in a dualview.
Now, I am trying to connect my tv to the third output - the sVideo.

Is that posssible?
should I do it via "force tv detection"?
can I configure it to be a dual/triple ?
can I configure it to be clone and if so can I choose who it will be a clone of (1st or 2nd Disaply)

Many thanks.

A:connect computer to three displays

Sorry, the graphics card can only handle 2 outputs at 1 time.
Vista is capable of 4 monitor output, but requires that the
motherboard be able to handle 2 different video cards.

Hi, folks. I've seen this question asked before, but I haven't seen an answer that works for this situation.

It was probably just a fluke, but I was installing an interesting WiFi monitoring program yesterday (http://www.freewarefiles.com/MyWIFIzone_program_14124.html, if you're interested - but DO NOT install this!). It prompted for a reboot, so I did. The PC wouldn't come back up, so I rebooted again; same thing. So I rebooted into Safe Mode, and discovered that I couldn't uninstall software in Safe Mode. I deleted the program directory, and rebooted again.

Now the fun started. Windows prompted me to reactivate XP Pro SP3, because of "significant hardware changes". But I couldn't, because I couldn't connect to the network - ANY network. I opened a cmd wiindow and tried "ipconfig /all", which returned "Windows IP Configuration" and _nothing else_.

I started getting errors about NCS2PROV.exe, which is apparently the network driver for my Intel 965DH motherboard, so I removed the LAN connection, reinstalled the drivers and re-enabled it. No luck. I figured that the onboard network connection had failed so I tried installing a USB WiFi device, with no success. I even tried doing a repair of Windows, without success. I tried looking for a restore point, but for some reason there are none prior to the crash and the oldest one didn't help.

At this point, Windows still is nagging to reactivate, I have no n... Read more

I'm posting this, as this is a very weird problem for me. I've installed xp on my laptop, after using the knoppix live cd in it. Knoppix runs fine, but once I installed xp, I can not connect to the internet or my home router. I have verified that the firewall is off, I can ping my loopback with no problems or errors. I have read a few posts, and have used some of the suggestions from them:
sfc /scannow
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset reset.log

I have also disabled the NIC, enabled it, removed the driver and re-installed it, all with no luck. The system is using XP SP2. Also, I have formatted the drive and loaded xp for a second time, all with no luck. And I have made sure that TCP/IP box is checked and system is set for dhcp. Any thoughts? I could use some, thanks.

Hello,
I have a Precision M6700 (GQ12BW1) which is connected to Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator. I have connected two external displays to it (Dell U2412Mb) via display port cable and laptop screen is also active.
Problem is that one of my displays flickers when I put something on fullscreen on it (e.g excel, picture etc). Not always but frequently enought to disturb.
I have updated BIOS and graphics driver to latest that dell support page offers. Also changed DP cables.
What else can I do to resolve this issue?

Hi Guys One of our important clients has asked us me to quote for a HP laptop that supports the internal AND 2 x 2xternal screens simultaneously as they have a finance package they want to use that needs three screens. I've looked at the newer Spectre range which have 3 x Type-C ports which would indicate that two of these could be used for screen but I can't find any info to confirm whether 2 external screens will work at the same time along with the internal Any recommendations greatly appreciated

Almost a week ago I received my new P51 loaded with all available components, as did my last Lenovo W530. The P51 appears to be a great machine. My current problem is that I cannot display 4 screens (notebook plus 3 external displays). Since I have used my W530 with 4 displays for over two years I fully expected to achieve the same with an even more powerful Notebook. The new P51 has two 512 GB SSD drives, the Intel Xeon E3-1505M v6 vPro MB CPU, a NVIDIA Quadro M2200M 4GB graphics card, 32GB(16+16) DDR4 2400 SoDIMM, a notebook display of P51 FHD NT 2D MC CS WLWW and the latest Windows 10, 64 bit operating system. Since I received the P51 and its docking station (P/N: 40A50230US) I have connected the three external monitors to the docking station via a HDMI port, a DVI converter to HDMI and a Display Adapter converter to HDMI. The BIOS was updated to the latest and the 256 Mb default memory for the displays was increased to the 512 MG setting. I have also moved the displays and cables around to confirm that cables are fine and only two external displays will be seen at any time. In speaking with Lenovo hardware support, one individual said I needed to subscribe to software support to get the BIOS changed. Later, a second person said that I needed to play around with the BIOS settings and it should work. I have also rebooted the system a few times. Unfortunately I still cannot view 4 displays.  As an IT, Telecom and Cybersecurity SME... Read more

Is ist possible to connect two external displays over microHDMI. I know, normally you couldn't use them as extended displays because there's only one signal. BUT on the product page they claim, that it has a DisplayPort ("combo with HDMI?") and microHDMI. In my opinion it looks like there are somehow two output signals over the hdmi port, or does anybody know what this exactly mean?

A:Yoga 710-14IKB two external displays over microHDMI?

The product page is incorrect. The 710-14IKB has one micro-HDMI for one display. If you want a second display you'll need a USB display adapter.
