Q: System Service Exception

A few weeks ago I shelled out and built my own system. Since the installation of Win7 Ultimate (64bit), i've been having some system crashes, namely System_Service_Exception(3b) two times, and once Bad_Pool_Header.
I looked at the dumps with windows debugging tools but can't make much of what i'm looking at.

Things i've tried:
Reinstalled Windows
memtest86+ - my first pair of ram sticks were bad. I replaced them, ran the check again, (they were good this time) but BSODs persist.
Updated drivers
Flashed latest BIOS
System Specs:
Intel i3 550;
Gigabyte h55m-s2v motherboard;
ZOTAC GeForce GT 430 PCIe
4GB (two sticks) DDR3-1333
500watt psu

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

Start by installing SP1: Learn how to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Run Driver Verifier after that: http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...ed-473665.html

It is also a good idea to run a couple other hardware diagnostics.

Run Memtest86 again, on all sticks of RAM at the same time and for 7 passes.

Run the Blend and Small FFTs Prime95 tests: CPU - Stress Test with Prime95 - Windows 7 Forums

Run the Short and Long DSTs in SeaTools, for the hard drive.

For a long time now i have been getting BSOD's, pretty much all of the time from System Service Exception and KMode Exception Not Handled. Sometimes the PC never gets to the BSOD and just freezes up and restarts. This happens at any time whether im doing nothing or on the internet, sometimes it happens before the PC can load up fully. Most of the time though it happens when i am gaming. I rebuilt most of my PC but this still carried on. The parts that i have replaces are the PSU, RAM, Graphics Card and the case as well as adding in 2 extra fans. The temperature stays withing good values. The PC also often gets stuck on the post boot screen where it says "SMART Check Capable and OK" and it will take a few minutes for it to get past this stage and carry on loading, but this doesnt happen not all the time. I have tried diagnosing this myself but i have hit a wall. I ran Seatools and the HDD failed all of the tests, however after checking the fail code this was simply because it couldnt find the serial number. The HDD then passed tests from both CrystalDiskInfo and DiskCheckup. I thought that it was either the HDD or the MB as they are the only components not to be replaced. Since HDD seems to have passed its SMART tests i am inclined to believe it is the MB. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi Guys,

I'm a composer working on a deadline and have started to experience quite intermittent BSOD's.
It appears to happen at higher system loads.
I'm reasonably experienced in building custom machines (this is my third on), and so far have never experienced issues with them.
This current one is a racked i7 3930K Hexacore on a Sabertooth x79, with 32gb of Ramm and a GTX470.
I'm using Nuendo 6 in 64 bit mode (Cubase's bigger brother) with an RME Fireface 800.
The fireface runs via firewire and has its own pcie card for this.
In addition there is an external G-tech drive connected via Esata.

In the last week I've been having 1-3 bsod's a day..a real productivity killer and I hope someone can help me out. I've used Whocrashed to at least get an indication of what it might be, but I don't have much experience with minidumps.

The only thing that I have noticed is that Windows is attempting a surface scan during startup, which fails due to a 'recently installed software package' I have no idea what that might be.
I've not been able to do a diskchk on C:
Regardless, C: seems to work fine and I've not noticed any issues.

Drivers are pretty much up to date.

I'm attaching a dump, would someone mind having a look and giving me a clue? Thanks in advance!

Hello, receiving random different BSODs:

NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION

Details:

Sony Vaio VPC-EH3J1E

Intel Core i3 2350M @ 2.30 GHz

4.00 GB RAM

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

So far I have tested the HDD with 3 different testing tools (CrystalDisk, SamsungHDDTool, and ToolstarHDD Test. All passed. RAM Test has also passed on a 5 pass run. Mainboard was changed in the Notebook last week under Guarantee. What else could this be? Any help is appreciated.

Laptop, only the power suppy connected. RAM tested with Memtest86+ (7pass) and it passed. Mainboard replaced, Hard drive tested with CHKDSK, SamsungHDDTool, and Toolstar HDD Test. Recovery of the system is not possible because the device is a guarantee case and the customer does not want to lose his data. I am able to boot to the desktop. The bluescreens are sporadic. No new software or hardware has been added to this laptop in the last 24 hours. The customer says that he does not add any external hardware devices to the laptop when he uses it. The laptop is only 3 months old.

I have downloaded and installed ALL drivers from the Sony Vaio support site. After the first restart, I was thrown another 2 BSODs: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x0000003B) and SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (0x1000007E). So far the following work has been done on this notebook:

Usual causes: Device driver, Breakpoint set with no debugger attached, Hardware (Memory in particular)

Enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

My computer BSODs every morning. The screen lasts for about two seconds, then the computer reboots and runs fine for the rest of the day.
All I got from the error screen was Ox3b before it restarted this morning. I'm terrified that it's going to die on me before I'm done with this semester of college. That is all the info I know how to give to you, if you need more just tell me how to get it.

Please can you assist with my BSOD issue I have been getting occasionally. It generally happens when playing BF4 but that may be a coincidence since I play it alot.

Only 15 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 70 to 90 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available (and didn't experience any errors).

Recently I've seen significant problem resolution in Gigabyte motherboards by getting the latest UEFI/BIOS updates. Please visit the Gigabyte website and get the latest availale update. If possible, use the builtin Windows Update tool to update it.

Free space is getting low on your SSD. Keep an eye on it. 15% free is ideal, but most systems can get by with as little as 10% free without experiencing problems.

There are a lot of Live Kernel Events in the WER section of MSINFO32.
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

While playing games I keep getting a blue screen labeled'System Service Exception'. It happens every time I'm in a game, but is random on how long until it does, sometimes right away, other times 30-40 mins.

In the line at the top of “www.SevenForums.com” you will see UserCP.
That is an abbreviation for User Control Panel.
Click on UserCP.
In the left-hand column, under Your Profile you will see Edit System Spec.
Click on Edit System Spec
You can copy and paste from the output of Speccy, Speccy - System Information - Free Download to fill out much of the info. Be sure to use the Other Info section of your System Specs for such info as your optical drive, your wireless adapter, your speakers, etc.

My computer keeps showing me the blue screen that restarts and says system service exception. It only does it sometimes when I'm in the middle of doing something. It usually shuts off while I'm in the middle of a skype video chat but I don't think that skype is what's messing it up. Please help with this problem, I need it fixed before I take it to college.

Got this new Lenovo desktop with WinHate. Struggled with several weeks to learn and set everything up. Finally it is working just fine and dandy. ALL OF A SUDDEN, out of the blue, it decides that it wants to take mini-vacations at random times throughout the day in the form of SYSTEM.SERVICE.EXCEPTIONS. I saw somewhere that Symantic might be the culprit...I did not have Symantic products but, the only things that happened recently were that that the stupid McAfee that came with the PC upgraded and like two days later started to complain that it was expired and that I should renew it. So, based on someone saying that Symantic (Norton) might cause this error, I went ahead and delete the McAfee (using CP Program Deleter) (BTW: I use a paid version of AVAST for virus protection)

So anyway, this started happening and keeps happening randomly.

Now another thing which I have noticed is that, I think, every time it crapped out, I was using Firefox. Do you know ANY REASON why that may be related? Now this is a problem because I have now run into three important commercial sites that I am required to use to function which DO NOT WORK with the stupid Internet Explorer 10 that Microsoft felt compelled to shove down my throat. These sites work fine with Firefox.

Can you Help me, Tech Guy? Can Ya', PLease?

I have been experiencing Blue SOD frequently (at least once per week, sometimes daily, occasionally 2 x a day) randomly since November 2016 , usually while working thru wireless VPN.  The shutdown is only a few minutes and system comes back up.  I have had several computer techs service with no success - after service will not experience issue for about a week, then it returns.  I work from home and this is extremely disruptive!  Can anyone assist me with a solution?  Thanks!

I have recently upgraded to Win 7 64 bit and have had nothing but troubles ever since. I started from a fresh ISO with a new SSD and Motherboard. After countless blue screens I upgraded to windows 10 and they kept coming, So after numerous OS resets I decided that if I was not going to have to reinstall all of my software and apps once a week. I have returned to Win 7 64 from a fresh install. I am receiving System service Exception blue screens. They are speratic. The event log shows 3 Critical events in the last hour. They are from my crashes. The error events just prior are WMI (event ID 10) and BugCheck (Event ID 1001 a memory dump) I have been told that the error appears to be a driver issue, I have updated every driver possible. I do not know what to do. I cannot successfully graduate like this. The issues may have already caused me to fail a course. Please help.

Hi,
I know this is a kommon problem and there are other threads on this. But, as every problem is also individual, I still dare to post.

Until yesterday my computer worked fine. I played Skyrim, then read my e-mails using Firefox and then turned the computer off and went to bed. In the morning I turned the computer on and it didn't start. Instead, it ran system repair. After that, it didn't start again - it got to the Windows 7 opening screen, then computer went silent for a moment (not the screen, but hard drive), and threw me back to the start screen of computer. I pushed F8 and ran the last known good configuration. Nothing. I ran again system repair and after that last known good configuration. Now it started. I was able to use the computer for half an hour, just reading e-mails and listening to music using Windows Media Player and reading a text on Word, when suddenly everything froze. Completely - so completely that I had to use restart button on the computer, Cntrl+Alt+Del didn't help. It hasn't happenede like that never before!
After pushing restart-button the computer got to the Windows, I could already see my backround picture, when I suddenly got the blue screen saying the infamous words SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION etc. Well, I did let the poor thing to restart again, run system repair again, try to use the last known good configuration again, but at least three times in a row I got this bloody system service exception.

Hello everyone ! 
I am trying to figure out why my laptop gets a BSOD . I am using Windows 7 and whenever I try to boot on my system after a few seconds I get a bluescreen : System service exception , ks.sys . I have attached the two (2) last minidump files created .
I have to say that this does not happen in safe mode
( this is actually where I am posting from ) .
 
If anyone could help I would be more than gratefull!

Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.
 
Step 1
 
(1)  Click on the Start orb, then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.  
 
(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.
 

 
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.

I've had my laptop for three days now and it keeps restarting every 5 minutes. Google Chrome will stop working and stop responding and close down when I'm surfing the web. Every time it restarts it shows a blue screen with the error messages "system_service_exception" and "kmode_exception_not_handled" I've already done a system recovery and reset it to its factory settings but it won't stop restarting and freezing up on me. I'm considering sending it back in to have HP fix or replace my laptop, but first I wanted to post my question to see if anyone has any helpful advice. Thanks.

So about 1-2 days ago my laptop crashed with System Service Exception. At first I thought it was because of a game I was playing through VM (I had to VM Windows 7 coz it won't run well with Windows 8) but then even after I give up on it it was still happening. Its either every hours or seem to be very time it get to a half hour the system would crash with the same error.

Just had a crash while typing this and I check my event log, almost all crashes happen around when close reached xx:30 (within like 1s) That or i happen to turn on arou nd xx:30 so its crashing almost exactly 1hr after system turns on.

I'm running windows 8.1, hardware is asus ROG g751jt, i7 core, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd and 1tb hdd, gtx970m.

Twice or more a day my HP Pavilion (m9300t) crashes and gives me a bsod saying "System Service Exception." Thinking it might be heat related, I opened the case and shoot a fan in, which helped for a day or so. Running Vista x64 Home Premium. Original Installation for the software. 4GB of RAM. Hardware purchased in Sept 2008.

Good day to all,

I'm new to this forum. I intentionally registered in this forum because I have experienced successive BSODs with my pc recently.

I experience it randomly especially when I play games like batman arkham asylum, assassin's creed 2, etc.

I have reinstalled the driver of my Gpu (HD 5870) many times hoping that it would fix the problem.
My OS is Windows 7 64bit.

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

Recently after adding new RAM. I've been getting some random BSOD System Service Exception messages. They usually pop up right after startup (from shutdown or hibernation). Its quite sporadic...sometimes it happens a few times in a row, other times its days between them. I'm wondering if its the RAM (only thing i've changed since the BSOD started happening) and if theres anything that can be done short of not using it.

Ram would be the obvious thing to check first, i would check ram settings in bios timings/voltage/frequency to make sure they are set correctly
I personally believe its best to manually enter this info rather than having it set to auto as sometimes it will not auto set properly, is new ram the same make/speed etc as the original ram as if not that may cause some issues, if they are rated at different speeds then you will need to set it to run at the speed of the slowest ram

Also try downloading and running memtest to check the ram for errors, more info here Memory Diagnostics i would recommend running this for minimum of 5 passes or overnight if possible as sometimes needs multiple passes before errors are found

It showed up today when i want to play The Sims 3. It wasn't like this last week when i play the game. I have upgrade my graphics card driver and it doesn't seem to be the problem. I have attached the mini dump. I really appreciate your help.

The memory dump blames core Windows files, which is probably not the cause.
Unfortunately, the Windows Debugging Tools aren't able to access symbols for your operating system files (in particular NTOSKRNL.EXE/NTKRNLMP.EXE/NTKRNLPA.EXE) from the Microsoft Symbol Server - so that makes debugging them difficult if not impossible.

Please do the following:
- activate/validate the Windows installation at Genuine Microsoft Software
- run sfc.exe /scannow to replace any problem files
- If that doesn't fix it, then wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows
- don't use "leaked"/torrent builds

Recently purchased a game on steam, Graviteam Mius Front, was 10 minutes into playing it and I got a BSOD saying system service exception, or whatever it was.

Now when I restart, computer only goes for about 5 minutes before blue screening and crashing.

Any help? I have had this computer for 3 years, was gifted to me by my partner.

I got a BSOD with "System service exception (dxgmms2.sys) when trying to play a game, after the first time it happened I ran it a couple more times and got it every time about 5 min in. I opened BlueScreenView and two (errors)? (dxgmms2.sys and ntoskrnl.exe). Just no idea how to fix. If I could get any more info and a fix that would be much appreciated

If you have installed any driver with Driver Booster 3, please remove them as it may cause trouble.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

Hello

I have been having these System Service Exception BSODs for quite a long time, they have been coming and going but only occur when i put the computer to sleep. This has been driving me absolutely spare as i have been unable to isolate whats causing the problem.

If it fails on sfc /scannow then your system has a problem. Do you have a backup yoou can restore from? Do you have the win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

I've been having problems not only with the occassional blue screen, but also a weird situation where, usually when dealing with video, my display will go black and the computer will reboot or the display/audio will freeze and require a hard reboot. In either case no DMP file is created. I replaced my video card the other day (originally an Radeon 5770, the problems I mentioned above seemed consistent with problems people were having with that card, hence the replacement) and everything seemed like it was running fine, but this problem has cropped back up.

OS: Windows 7 x64, originally installed, not OEM.

Two sets of drivers appear to be missing, please check Device Manager to see if there are any device there that are showing problems.

Hi Everyone,

Another BSOD is a great way to start the week. About 30 seconds after i logged in and while i was opening my everyday programs (outlook, one note, sling player, internet explorer, etc.) i get a blue screen that says "system service exception".

Any help isolating this issue would be great. All the blue screens lately have been really frustrating. Ironically i never had one with Vista.

Hello,

I hope someone can assist me here. My new computer is just out of warranty and dispite trips to the tech support at the store where I purchased it, I'm still getting BSOD.

I have an AMD Athalon quad core Processor 2.80GHz
4.00 GB RAM
64 bit OS
Windows 7 Pro

While under warranty I was getting BSOD crashes - 1st time the tech guys diagnosed problems with one of the cores and updated the BIOS. This solved the problems for a couple of months, then the BSOD started up again. 2nd time in the shop they found bad sectors on the hard drive and fixed them. Less then a month has passed since I got my computer back and again with the BSOD.

The crashes occur at random, sometimes when I'm working with the system, sometimes when it is sitting idle, not in use. I installed BlueScreenViewer and it is consistantly coming up with the crashes being caused by either Ntfs.sys (varying addresses) or ntoskrnl.exe (always at 70740).

I'm hesitant to take my computer back for tech service and end up paying for nothing and I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on what is wrong with my system and what steps I would need to take to fix it.

Hello,

I've recently been getting a BSOD about 3x times a day, so, i stuck a new HDD, installed Windows fresh (dual booted with another copy of Windows 7) - updated fully, etc.. and it happens again - the amazingly vague Microsoft messages indicated win32k.sys however, not really sure.

I've attached a memory dump, if anyone could take a look, it would be much appreciated! Can't for the life of me figure why all this is happening all of a sudden.

I have received a multitude of BSODs lately the most common being the System_Service_Exception. It usually occurs about 30mins into a gaming session (30mins of Team Fortress 2).

What can I do to fix this?

I have no idea...
I tried reinstall many times... about 5 or more...
I even use Acer driver and MS auto driver... still crash and no sound after using for awhile.
I reinstall Windows and sometime I install driver manually and automatically still sound fked up
I'm currently helpless :'(
using W10 10568.104 1151
and when this happened... everything related to Realtek disappear like I didn't install it @@

I am having an issue with my computer and its been going on for a while now. I notice that everytime i have World Of Warcraft going, I get a blue screen after I play it for a few hours. I dont know whether its an add on not working right or bad hardware, or whatever it could be. Its at any point of the game that this randomly happens. I have all the drivers and bios updated. My system is as follows:

Hey everybody, thanks for taking the time to read this.

I recently did a fresh install of Windows 10 Home on my home build after getting a new SSD. Since then I've been dealing with pretty consistent System Service exception BSODs. A few times I got DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSODs, which I used WhoCrashed to diagnose, and identified my Ethernet card driver as the issue. I uninstalled that and the DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSODs seem to have stopped, but the System Service Exceptions have not. I tried briefly using Driver Verifier to identify any other issues with drivers, which caused BSODs pointing to Scsiport.sys. I did a bit of research but could not figure out where to go from here. The Scsiport.sys driver verifer BSODs should be the ones that happened on 4/7/16.

The crashes happen under various circumstances, ranging from full idle to under load playing games, and during moderate load with netflix and other random web browsing tasks.

I attached the .zip made with the program provided on the BSOD posting guide.

*edit*: I forgot to mention I've been having thermal issues as well. Nothing that has manifested itself in a lockup or crash as far as i can tell; however my system tends to run hot. 50C idle and 70C under load (gaming etc.). I'm planning on replacing my cpu cooler but dont have the cash to right now.

BSOD during playing games.
They have started glitching or freezing for 5 seconds and sometimes the screen would turn off.

I know my computers getting older and it does have a few problems it just needs continuous maintenance, any help would be appreciated because I won't be able to buy anything until I can get a job.

Hi Pheoxy.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus (you may keep dual monitor program and fences .
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight. If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.
If memtest comes free from errors, enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.



   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

Hi 7Forums,

I hope I can get some assistance on decoding a .dmp log.

Some background:
I've recently been getting some BSODs, I built my computer roughly three years ago, and clocked it at 4.0ghz with the neccessary volts. I had tested it when I oc'd initially and it was stable in prime for 8 hours no problem, back then I also ran memtest and the ram passed easily.

So recently i've been unable to figure out why i'm getting BSODs. I've attributed it to the fact that it might be because my computer is beginning to age and I have a relatively aggressive overclock. However, even when downclocking and watching the CPU temps, there doesn't seem to be a problem. I've also taken the time to rebuild my PC with new artic silver TP.

I've attached the my latest .dmp log with this post in the hopes that someone might be able to open it and give it a look. I'm having some trouble installing the debugging tools for some reason, but will surely figure that puzzle out later on!

Hi,

I keep on getting this error all the time. I tried running your SF Diagnostic tool in Safe mode because I cant get to windows without getting this error. If I am lucky sometimes it loads to Windows but for 10 mins or so and I get this error. Even when I restore to Factory I get this error in the checking video performance screen and Welcome screen. I have attached the required files. Please help.

Disable RAID. Then run the computer normally. Let us see the further BSODs.

Hello Sachi ... the latest dump you have uploaded is of 20/10/2012 ... and that is a driver power state failure. Analyzing that dump may not help you properly, still ....

Get rid of intel rapid storage.
Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
It will open the "computer management" window.
Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
Expand "Disc Drives" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Select one item under it, right click, uninstall.
Continue the process for all items under "Disc Drives"
Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate system driver, msahci.sys.
Do some USB maintenance. For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
Do the same for all.
Restart the computer.
At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.
And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.

Got my first BSOD in quite a while. I just installed Hexagon 2.5 from DAZ 3D and I think that did it but I need help to be sure. Maybe there are drivers that are more current?
