Lenovo Ideapad y500 with Windows 8 OEM but can't seem to upgrade to 8.1?

Q: Lenovo Ideapad y500 with Windows 8 OEM but can't seem to upgrade to 8.1?

Please help. Trying to upgrade it from the Store but it is stuck at installing, it seems halfway through. Left it overnight (8 hours) but still at the same place. Tried again, 3 times already but the same result. Then I tried downloading Window 8.1 ISO through official channels with success but when I try it that way it requires me to input my present Windows 8 product serial which originally came with the machine. But that didn't work because it is OEM. Ultimately I am trying to upgrade to windows 10 but I need to upgrade to 8.1 first.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a lenovo ideapad y500 with a 1366x768 screen, and I am looking to pop open the screen, and replace the panel with a 1920x1080 screen. Assuming that I purchase another 15.6 inch screen (size of the original screen), is this possible? A model of the y500 is sold with a 1080p display, and the graphics card in my model is more than capable of outputting such a resolution. I was just wondering if there is a chance that the connections between my laptop and new screen would not match as I do not know if there is some sort of standard port with screens. Thanks!

A:Screen upgrade lenovo ideapad y500

You would need to find out the exact model of the 1080p screen was that was sold with that model and order the same one or compatible replacement model. Laptop screens are not universally interchangeable and you can't just buy any screen and connect it.

Hi,  I tried to power up laptop. It would not power up. just white blinking light. I tried most recommendations i found online, like unplug power adapter, batter, hit button 10 seconds, 15 seconds 30 seconds, remove ram nothgint works.  I removed back cover. unplugged i guess the power port. then blinking light went away, I thought maybe it's stuck in sleep mode. It was defintily dead. plugged back in power port. The blinking light came back. the fan spans. just computer does not boot up. What are the odds both batter and power adapter both dead.  thanks for your help,

I'm looking around to sell my laptop but I'm not sure what price to sell it at. Best buy would buy it at $150, which doesn't seem accurate at all. Others are selling it around $700 on Amazon.Com, which seems like too much for a used laptop? Any help please would be appreciated.

Okay so, I got my Lenovo Ideapad Y500 a couple days ago. Liked it and all BUT when I had my mouse connected into the laptop and then turned off the touchpad, it would not turn back on. The only way I could get my touchpad to work again is by restarting the computer, which is pretty frustrating. I searched this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?   for ANY drivers/software for the Y500 mousepad and there are none. Can anyone help me fix this problem before I get a refund from this potentially bad purchase? FN + F6 toggles the touchpad on and off and I have tried to turn it on and off, with and without the external mouse connected. Thanks for the help.

Try using an external usb keyboard and see if you would have the same issue. Test it also with the onscreen keyboard to help isolate if the issue is with the hardware.

Hi guys, this is my first post in these forums. Now, I searched a lot for a solution to my problem, but now I'm creating this thread.I got a Lenovo Ideapad Y500, and it worked really well for like a month, then I started hearing this really loud whirring noise and some vibration coming from the left side of the laptop, near the heat vents. I shut my laptop off and when I turned it backon It was gone. But now the noise is back and whenever I reboot my laptop is goes away but then it comes back after a while. Also, whenever I run the dust removal thingy in the Lenovo energy management app, It gets really loud then it goes away.I don't really feel lots of air coming out from the vent on the leftside of the laptop. I think it might be a fan problem but my laptop stays around 45-65 Celsius mostly. I don't know how hot it runs when I play games, though. Any help on this unnatural whirring sound that starts after a while is really appreciated.

So, long story short. I accidentally deleted my recovery partition and now it seems like the only thing that will get my laptop up and running normally again is a recovery disc from Lenovo. I just got off the phone with customer service and they informed me that recovery discs can not be ordered in USB form.  This is where my main issue is. My Lenovo Ideapad Y500 laptop did not come with a CD-ROM Drive. With that being said, I do not want to spend $69 on a recovery disc that will require me to purchase an external CD-ROM drive that potentially won't even work... When I asked customer support if I could return and get a refund for the disc if it will not boot through an external CD-ROM drive, they said no. Has anyone been able to run a recovery disc from an external cd-rom drive successfully? Any suggestions? I'm at my wit's end with this thing...

Hello, I have ideapad y500 and  I've noticed that when ever I shut it off and power it back on the battery has drained. Its about 12% per night .. Its rly weird bcs i am not using "always on usb" or any others features. I think that it is HW bug or BIOS. I have noticed that when  i shut it down -> unplug the power cable then i remove and again attach the battery leave it for 12hours and there weren't any battery drain. So it only appears when i just unplug the power cable and leave it. I have read some topics(some ppl have the same problem) but i haven't find any solution. Is there any solution to solve this problem?? Bios version is the latest one.. I haven find any newest bios ver on your website.  Tomas

A:Lenovo Ideapad Y500 issue - battery drain (shutdown)

I'm assuming you have win 8. Try this:On the Windows 8 Start Screen, press CNTL + ALT + DEL.On the next screen select the Power icon located in the lower Right. When the options appear, press the SHIFT key and select "Restart". When the next screen appears, select "Turn off your PC". The unit will power down completely.See if you still have the battery draining.Note: Even if the unit is off, a little drain is expected to maintain the clock, etc.

Hello, folks! I installed and update from Windows 10 Build 1803 to 1903 around a week ago. I noticed that my USB ports would keep telling me error messages that they didn't make before, such as not recognizing a USB device or complaining about a power surge. After doing some resets and further updates, the problem is there again, but for a different reason. Apparently, my USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller won't start, even though I didn't tamper with my hardware. Here's a screenshot I took of it in the Device Manager, displaying an error code 10: Yay, an error! HahahahahahahahahaHere's the same error, but in UsbTreeView:  Does anyone here know how I can solve this problem? The Windows 10 build I currently have installed is 18362.267.

I want to update my BIOS from 2.00 to 2.02, as it might help fix the error code 43 going on with one of my USB drivers, but I haven't been able to find a reliable download for it anywhere. Hello. Sorry for my English.I recently installed Windows 10 on lenovo y500. 4 months everything worked well, but then I started to have problems with the video card. When I turned on the laptop, the screen started flashing, and then I saw a message about the failure of drivers. Then he stopped flashing and there were green pixels on the screen. I tried to reinstall the drivers, but nothing helped. Later, when I turned on the laptop, the screen turns green, and then completely turns off after a few seconds. I took it to the service center, and they said that it is necessary to install only Windows 8, because the BIOS and SLI does not work correctly with Windows 10. But these 4 months SLI has worked on Windows 10. What should I do? Is it worth it to stay on Windows 10, or roll back to 8?My lenovo y500 spec.i7-3630QM, 650m sli, 6Gb RAM, 1920x1080

Hello, So I have a Y500 sli which is still running old windows8. A few weeks ago it started giving me windows activation errors and wont accept its own key which i bought it with. I contacted microsoft and lenovo support but they both couldnt help me. So maybe there were some imptovements since then. I am pretty new to doing this, its my first time, so i am looking for some advice and help in this process. According to other rhreads were some driver and bios problems, is there anything i should prepare? Bios update, driver backup? Will,it work at all? Hi, I recently upgraded the Storage with a WD green 120 GB M.2 SSD. Post upgradation, i installed Windows 7 into the new Drive. After dealing with several error messages and trying all workarounds the system was able to boot and became a working machine again.  I accidentally formatted the eMMC i.e. previously my C: drive and faced a lot of difficulty in making it work. However happy that finally the system is back to its normal working condition. The only problem i am facing now is, i am not able to see the 32GB eMMC card in Disk Management or in MY Computer. Though the same is visible in Advanced Troubleshooting during pre-boot (Repair your system Option) . Though the volume is visible and is empty there, its not visible inside windows explorer after windows starts. Though it doesnt affect the system's performance now, i would like to use the 32GB memory. I tried looking for the driver but not didnt find any. I am currently using Win 7 Enterprise. My next attempt would be to upgrade to Windows 10 and see if that resolves the issue.  Please Help !

Hi lidor2585,

Would you have similar board on the new upper case that you ordered?

Checking on part number 90205216 upper case ACLU2 Upper Case Black L W/LEDSPG TPCB show similar green board for the touchpad that goes with the upper case.

Replacing the entire upper case includes replacing the same board so there should be no need to remove it as it is expected that it is included on the new upper case. For the same reason why the hardware manual do not offer specific instruction on touchpad board removal.

I hope this heps answer your query.
