Preferred Solution: Can I Wack A New Processor In This Beast?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My explorer.exe does not want to cooperate with me. It "does" a combination of the feared "restarting" and "just shutting off and not coming back on."

R really don't know what to do as I have tried at least 20 or 30 of the things listed if you google "fix explorer.exe." Just tell me what you need to know.

By the way, give me links to anything you want me to download or something.
Thanks for prompt help!

I will also post when this is resolved, because I know it annoys people, not knowing what the deal is...

I recently changed hardware on my pc. I did not uninstall or change anything about my hard drive, but when using it in the new pc, it kept telling me to activate windows. This was strange, never happened to me before so why now. So i go through so much
trouble trying to fix it and nothing worked. Even in settings under activation blah blah, it still wouldn't let me activate because "the servers were down". ok. So i call Microsoft support, and he keeps trying to get me to repurchase windows 10.
No. Bad customer service  rep. He did not help at all just made me do everything i already did and  when it said the servers were down, he told me its because i don't have a legit license. I downloaded windows 10 when it was free in 2016 or whenever.
So i never got a product key. So I used to windows 10 installer tool and it seemed to work, the watermark was gone. but later that day when i came home it was back. Then i tried the activation again and it worked. This was incredibly frustrating and annoying.
so i wanted to leave negative feedback to windows/microsoft. But i dont have the feedback hub, so i go to windows store and try to search bnut the search function doesnt work. I dont know why i thought any other windows app would be easy to use after everything
i just experienced. I have no question. This isnt about windows 8. This is the only place i found to try to tell microsoft anything. so tedious and annoying. yuck.

Hi. This is gonna sound odd but every time I move my mouse real fast it goes out of control. If I don't move the mouse the cursor stays but with one little twitch and it is half-way across the screen again. This also tends to happen in Linux but Win2k is the worst. If I don't move it for about 3 seconds it goes back to normal until I move it fast again. And I am not even moving it that fast!!! Please help. Thank you.

About 2 weeks ago, my computer suddenly wouldn't connect to to STEAM (The Computer Game Software from Valve)

So I tried getting it to work when suddenly other programs on my computer stopped connecting to my computer as well, first it was firefox then it was google chrome, and I.E. worked for a while but then stopped the only thing I can connect to is AIM

also I can only access the internet while in safe mode.

It says I'm connected to my wireless network on the bottom right, but get nothing in the browsers

Also while trying the ipconfig /renew

this message would show

"No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected."

I'm not sure what It means, I've never encountered this message before

I'm not sure where to begin anymore, I'd appreciate any help

I don't know how to fix my screen on my laptop. There are buttons on my main computer screen where you can adjust the screen to fill the entire screen, but on my laptop I have no clue where the buttons are to adjust the width and everything to expand to fit the entire screen and not have an inch on each side. Does any of that make sense? Help please.

I would think it would help if you provided the make and model of your computer. and if it is not too old how about going to their website for manuals or support.

I got an old Inspiron 4000 Dell and installed WinXP on it. I hit the "34 Minute Hiccup" so I deleted a file named WDMA_es3.inf. I assumed this was my audio driver for my laptop. When I got XP set up there was of course no sound. When I tried to install the ESS Maestro 3i driver my computer wouldn't start up so I removed the drivers in safe mode. The sound card should be an ESS Maestro 3i or something like that. Are there any other drivers I could use? any response would really help. Thanks in advance!!!

Im hoping someone here can help me fix this problem. okay so about a week ago spyware was on my computer antivirus 2010 so i used malware bytes and it said it got it off. but my computer still resumed to reboot so I said wth and reformatted my computer using the hp disks they had sent me. So I did the first few times I wasnt able to find my network interface card and finally I called hp and they helped me install it correctly. Now my computer is still rebooting every hour or so. I used malwarebytes and it found nothing. I also used avast and hijackthis. Please someone help me out. I will greatly appreciate it. I will include my hijackthis report below. Download BlueScreenView - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html Double-click BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program. When scanning is done, Edit/Select All...then File/Save Selected Items. Save the report as BSOD.txt.Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply. The fact that your system reboots routinely...would seem to not indicate a malware situation, IMO. But we will examine that possibility later, depending on what we find out in your next post. For the time being, I will leave your HJT data intact, rather than removing such. HJT logs are handled in one of our malware forums...rather than move you to one of those, a quick exploration of possibly system issues seems expedient in your case.Louis

Hi Everyone,I'm new to this site and I was hoping that I could get some help with my computer. My apologies ahead of time but I'm not the most computer literate person so if my topic title/introduction have been done wrong please let me know. Here's some background on the situation: my Windows Update will download the update but fail to install (Update KB982158). this is on a windows 2000 server machine.
2 Scsi drives.
The 2nd scsi drive is a 13 gig drive, and when i go into it and select all and properties to see the total amount of the files size, i get a total of 2.5 gigs. Now i have the option to show all hidden and even system files, so everything should be showing. When i look at teh free space left, it says theres only 1.5 gigs left. I'm losing 9 gigs somehow and i don't know where? The other drive is reading the free disk space fine, but this one has me worried.
I've ran scandisk, defrag, 2 anti-virus programs and still nothing.
Has anyone delt with any of this??

I have 25 photos in an album that I had to sort out and number, then renumber as I had to delete some.
Everything works fine until I get to number 16_sun city . Then for some reason I can't figure out, it skips from number 16 to number 20. After that things go completely nuts as the pix aren't viewable in proper order. 20 is followed by 18 for example.

I did a restart of pc knowing it wouldn't do anything. It didn't. I'm stumped.
Anyone else have this problem?

Anyone know a solution? Hope so.

I picked up a Trojan a couple nights ago, and AVG picked it up (never got the name), I was about to click 'Heal' and my computer shut down (not sure if I got the click off or not). I attempted to boot my computer back up, but Startup Repair or something couldn't automatically fix a problem, preventing me from logging on. Gateway Tech. Support walked me through booting from disc (I didn't tell them I had Trojan)..but w/e, as the installation was almost complete, several errors came up saying something about 'chkdsk' and corrupted files related with my gfx card, wireless adapter, webcam, and a few others. It tells me my wireless adapter is not installed, my gfx card almost seems to be missing, and I'm in way over my head. And I can't update any of my drivers, I've been hearing from friends because Trojan is blocking it. I've been running scans with several AV programs, and not picking up anything. But at the same time, I can't update my internal virus database's because of no internet access!
This Trojan came from an .iso game file, of which I still have on an external hard drive. I had mounted the .iso, installed the game and played it for a night, the next day I mounted a copy of the .iso (w/rename) and it attacked. My friend mounted my original .iso on his computer, and didn't pick it up until after he installed the game (in the install folder), he caught it before it did anything, but dumped it before reading the name.

Okay. Point blank, this is an update to my former post on this thread..

I have found out what error keeps popping up -right before- shutdown..disappearing immediately after it comes up..

It goes something like this...

"dwwin.exe - DLL Initialization Failed -
The application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down."

Yep. This is the exact error message. I have NO CLUE what dwwin.exe is or why it all-of-a-sudden decided to manifest itself on my PC..

Either way, its rather annoying..and I'd really like it to stop popping up every single time.. No, it isn't too serious. The comp runs pretty well besides, but still...I'm a perfectionist. :-D I've run virus and spyware checks...I don't think its a virus. The computer, again, is running full-speed ahead..no problems that I can see besides this IDIOTIC error message..

Can someone please help?

Well, thats a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a computer, but I guess if you've got the money then go for it. I'd strongly consider one of the PSU's on this page: http://www.pcpower.com/products/power_supplies/max-performance/

I have just a little pc experience and I have
been helping a few of the older ladies around
here and enjoy assisting. But, today I was
asked to remove JUNO from a ladies laptop.
Its an old Compac. Anyway, I looked at the
pc and here is what I initially saw.
Juno is installed twice or at least 2 versions are on machine. Both can be clicked
from the desktop. IE 5.1 is installed except
that across the top of the screen is:
"Microsoft Internet Explorer by JUNO"
I look in the control panel and JUNO is not
listed but MS IE is.
Now I'm not stupid but how is this possible?
Is it installed under the MS IE?
She said that her sister had installed JUNO
for her...so we call her in some faraway
city. She says that she put JUNO on and
MS IE on seperatly.. she said she downloaded
JUNO to the PC but installed MS IE from a
CD that she had for her PC. She said the
MS IE is not JUNO on her machine which the
same CD was used. What happened...did
JUNO attack IE and modify it?
Also the lady that has the laptop wants me
to install outlook express after I remove
JUNO.... ok. stupid question maybe, but is
Outlook Express on a MS IE 5.1 CD or do we
have to get it somewhere else?
Back to JUNO..what do I do to get this thing
off of her machine? What do I do about the
IE that is modified...remove through control
panel? I have heard that you can't reinstall
Windows 95 on a machine without installing
the IE that is on the 95 CD, so I guess I
could reinstall Windows 95 but would that

I have had NO problems until just now. I r/s'd and it didn't fix it. I thought it might have been my new anti virus (nod32) so i uninstalled it. (By the way, i had to repair Winsock to get it to work in the first place if that matters)

I really don't know what is going on.

Please help!

The "EXP GDC Beast" is used to connect a regular desktop PCI-e graphics card to your laptop by connecting it to an internal mini PCI-e slot inside the laptop. (Check the Youtube video below...) So simple question, will this work on the X1 Carbon? Or perhaps I should ask if there is any reason it shouldn't work? If I remember correct, the X1 happen to have 2 mini PCI-e slots? One for wifi and one for wwan. Could either of these be used? Thanks, http://www.banggood.com/Mini-PCI-E-Version-V8_0-EXP-GDC-Beast-Laptop-External-Independent-Video-Card...

I've done a repair and uninstall/reinstall of Quickbooks but it still won't run. Their techies tried and couldn't fix it. Registry Mechanic.. nope. Command line uninstall and scan, nope. Windows troubleshooting and support... of course not!

I can assure you that if SP1 were causing such major issues, there would be a considerable uproar about it. It is much more likely that your system had issues prior to SP1. Considering that you even have a tool like Registry Mechanic installed makes me even more sure of it.

Some time ago I posted a thread about my computer having BSOD problems and seemingly I fixed them. Little did I know then that they would be back a week later. I tolerated it. It kept happening every now and then, I refrained from playing games as that was the time when the computer was most prone to BSODs.

On November 26th I had had enough and decided to reinstall Windows. I went to 64 bit OS this time.
The same day I installed the most vital things and tested the computer with driver verifier. I managed to root out one of the problematic pieces - the smart card reader. As I didn't need it I uninstalled the device and unplugged it. Everything was okay except one thing - I had managed to experience a new BSOD error - SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION. I stopped it though. After reinstalling the OS I had moved my RAM sticks to the two adjacent slots but I moved them back and SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION errors stopped, along with 0x00000124 errors.

I have a 3Com SuperStack II Desktop Switch 3C16902 that I'm trying to configure, but I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing. When I first aqquired it I thought it would be like any other hub/router and that I could set it up using the Network Wizard, but evidently that's not so. After reading the user's manual at the 3com website, I attempted accessing it's control panel via Telnet *which didn't work* and a vt100 emulator *which didn't work either*. The only way I have of knowing the ip address of the hub is through my firewall, and I've been trying to connect to it through port 23. All I need is to be able to access the control panel *that I know of*. Could anyone help me out here? I picked this up used without any documentation or anything so well, I'm pretty lost. And yes, I have enough sense to have plugged the computer's ethernet cables to parallel user ports *port 1 and 2* and not the uplink port or anything like that. Also according to it the links are active, and in Windows it sends and recieves packets and doesn't show any errors *btw, I'm using XP Pro sp2*. I'm wanting to use this for file sharing only, no internet sharing. Let me know if you need any more info than that.

A:New beast of a hub, major problems

Well, I discovered why the networking wasn't working... the computers are networked together, but the administrative settings on the hub itself won't allow the computers access to eachother. I found this out only after discovering they were listed in "add a network place" but I got an error message saying the administrator wouldn't allow access to them.

So, I am a relatively new user, new in the sense that I assembled the hardware I am using but really have no idea how the software works. This beast has worked fine for several years, but recently has been a little funny. A friend of mine fixed it once, but can't really remember how...something to do with a common Malwarebytes glitch.

Anyway. In the past few days it has more and more often taken to not loading, except in Safe Mode. At the advice of another forum, I went to C:\>Properties>Tools>Error Checking>Check Now, checked both boxes, and restarted. Hereafter, the Beast would not start at all, even in Safe Mode.

I went to the screen that gave me the Safe Mode option, and selected "Do not restart automatically"...this brought me to the following blue screen of death:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I'm in the "research" stage of my project and I think i really need some help deciphering the maze of hardware out there.

I'd like to start by putting together a core system and using my hardware for the time being, upgrading HD as money permits. What i need to start off with is a CPU/Motherboard/RAM/Video Card....and of course a case to put it all in.

I think I'd like to go with an Athlon-based system as opposed to P4. The sketch in my head has an Athlon 1.5gb CPU with 256mb of DDR RAM and 32mb Video RAM card. But there are soooooo many boards out there.... here are some question I've come up with to start.

What's the difference between an Athlon & Thunderbird & XP?

What type of chipset do I need to look for on the board - will all Athlons use the same chipset? The "Socket A" motherboards list different chipsets.

What is a good quality brand of board to look for?

What is RAID Ultra-DMA? Do I really need a motherboard with this?
