I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I did follow some instructions to put a check mark in the square and I still can't get it to show up on my Desktop. Plus, I must have clicked the wrong option. When I first got it the other day it just had the recycle bin icon on the Desktop. Now, I can't find the recycle bin and all that is on the Desktop is a bunch of tiles.

Please help, if I keep trying things I'm afraid I'm going to make things worse.

If you see tiles then you are not on the desktop but are on the Start screen. Check settings to see if you have the Start screen turned on:

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this.

My friend has Windows XP Home Edition. He uses Comcast cable. He previously has Norton Anti-Virus. When he found out that McAfee was free with Comcast, he decided to switch. We got McAfee installed and thought we had removed Norton, but we see that the Desktop shows he has the Norton Recycle Bin and does not have the Windows Recycle Bin. And when he deletes a file, it doesn't go to the Norton Recycle Bin.

What is the easiest way to remove the Norton Recycle Bin and restore the Windows Recycle Bin?

Thank you.

There's a couple of things you can do. Perhaps the quickest might be to D/L Tweak UI and look within the left pane at the list. One is titled Desktop. Click it and there's another list comes up in the right side. Put a check in Recycle Bin. See if that helps.

Hi, I've been backing up data on my computer only to open up recycle bin the other day and find most of the files missing. I was very confused. Then i realised i had recently deleted 2 or 3 large files in size of 2 or more gb and that the recycle bins capacity is 4gb Has recycle bin deleted my older items because there wasn't enough space? I need to find or restore the old files. Im guessing the recycle bin dir in c: has now been modified showing the current status. Can i recover any older recycle bin dir or any files which list the files that were in recycle bin before is was modified and deleted old files? I have tried free undelete programs but they all only show the current recycle bin contents, i need to find the old contents. I also mucked around with some security settings of recycle bin and corrupted it. I had to empty it. Does this mean a new recycle bin file has been made? How can i restore the old contents.

Thankyou.

A:Lost recycle bin items

Things shouldn't go in the trash unless you want to get rid of them. Chances are that the files have been partially or totally overwritten and unrecoverable. Any chance at recovery was lost when you kept using the machine. When files are lost, you should shut down immediately so they won't get overwritten and then move the drive to another machine for recovery.

If the recovery apps can't find anything, they are probably gone for good.

Im using Toshiba Satellite laptop with vista home premium,

I notice my recycle bin icon missing so I right clicked my desktop and restored the icon, but now when I lick on it, the computer window where the original recycle bin icon is..opens up each time I click on the recycle bin icon. Am I missing a drive? Should I use my system recovery disk I made when I first purchased the laptop?

I really would like to use the recycle bin the way it was originally.

I am wondering if anyone else has had the issue of when restoring multiple large files from recycle bin some of them are restored and some are lost or deleted?

has happened when i tried to restore 15 avi files of about 700mb from the recycle bin

if i remember correctly i think this happened to me once with vista as well

A:Lost files when restored from recycle bin

When you delete a file, and it goes into the Recycle Bin, the data on the hard drive is not wiped clean or moved. The sectors of the hard drive the data resides on are simply marked as "free for new data".

Now, if you did not do anything with your computer that writes to the hard drive, then all of the original data would still be intact, and if you restored those files from the recycle bin they would be whole, uncorrupted, and ready to use.

But if you wait too long, and there are writes of new data to the hard drive, those sectors with the old data could be wholly or partially over-written, and now when you go to restore the files from the Recycle Bin they would be corrupted and therefore cannot be restored.

Hi all I'm Kate and I'd be grateful if someone could help me out with a sticky problem.

I'm using Windows Vista. Version 6 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1).

A month or so ago I had some problems with the fake Windows Security virus ( calling itself Vista Security 2010 I think ) on my system, I was able to find some advice online and managed to remove it. Then 2 days ago I performed a System Restore as I was having problems with my wireless router ( turns out it was a faulty wire connection) but I think it's possible I have re-infected with this virus although it is not behaving in the same manner.

So far the things I have noticed that are not working correctly:

Recycle Bin-the icon doesn't change to 'full' when I send things to it and when I click to empty it, it displays this message, " Are you sure you want to permanently delete all of these items?" It would usually state the number of items. If I open the bin after filling it, it shows 0 objects.

Taskbar-I am unable to unlock it.

Start Menu- Switches itself back to Windows Vista view although I have selected Classic.

Windows Defender does not show in sys tray even though when opened it says it's working. After I removed the fake Security Virus, Defender would pop up in sys tray saying it had blocked some start up programs, it hasn't done this since I Restored.

Desktop- 2 Control Panel icons have appeared there and I can not delete them.

If you had system protection turned on, then you may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before this happened to hopefully undo it to get you back.

they might be in recycling, or be hidden. You can attempt to recover them by using a 3rd party app like recuva.

It might also simply be a case that the index needs to be rebuilt.

I got a external hard drive, it means it has a individual Recycle Bin in F: Drive, separate it with the Recycle Bin of the computer in C: Drive.

But my computer was installed with Windows 7 again after a reparation, and now has a new unique identifier called Security ID or SID. for example: S-1-5-21-3225745820-1949245524-1067675123-1000

When I plugin the external drive the Recycle Bin looks empty, but the hard drive has the same space in megas used in the disk.

And now the Recycle Bin folder located in the external hard drive which is linked to my previous SID number of Windows 7, is hidden. In "Folder Options" I unhide the protected files and i found the previous Recycle Bin folder with the SID number
in it, but the names of the files has changed like $I0UFUJO, $I0U9PNS, $I1I2OMR, etc. and the original path file when was erased has dissapear.

Please, let me know how to recover my previous Recycle Bin files with their original names and path location before was deleted, because I need to get some of those files and in their original location and delete the others to free space from the disk. I am
using a Virtual Machine for doing that, just in case. Thanks.

Things I know: it is about 10 years old that has windows 98, 20GB HDD, CD drive, DVD-RW drive and a floppy disc drive.
Two USB sockets. Not sure if 2.0 or 1.1, but I plugged a 2.0 memory stick into it yesterday and it recognised that it was 2.0 but couldn't find the driver for it so couldn't connect.
I think it has 128Mb of RAM but I opened it up today and found one 128Mb and one 64Mb. But windows tells me it only has 128Mb. What is using that 64Mb?

I tried putting Damn small Linux on it this morning by putting it on a CD-R. When I booted it up it said that it found a disc then said failure. According to this I need the dsl-syslinux.iso <reference to illegal process removed>
The dsl.iso was the one I tried first and it failed.

I have no idea what the CPU is I tried taking of the fan but I couldn't get the screws undone.

From the badly focused pictures can you tell me if I can upgrade the HDD, RAM and CPU so I can put Linux on it and give it a new lease of life. I think the motherboard might not be compatible with today's CPUs etc.

Ask me anything to check to see if the parts are compatible/useable

Thanks

First thing to try is let Windows check its integrity using the sfc /scannow command when booted in Safe Mode. Read this mini tutorial about using it: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=147786 .

Hopefully this allows you to boot sorta normally in Windows and then you should be able to use System Restore to go back to a point in time before the cleaning of CCE.

When the above does not work it is time for a more creative way of using System Restore.

When you have an installation CD for your Windows XP (not a restore CD) you can use the following procedure to use system restore to go back to a restore point before the cleaning by CCE.

When you don't have an installation CD you can use this method when your HD is hooked up to another computer.

Print out the procedure and familiarize with it before starting with it. When you understand what the procedure does it makes applying it a better experience.

In short the procedure does the following:

I turned my computer on, got the message "...updating do not turn off your computer...", it did it's thing, got the screen to enter my password, did that and it went south from there.

The error message starts out like this: "C:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable..."
It goes on to say that it may have been moved.
I do find that it did create a restore point just before updating.
Is it safe to restore it then?

There are 4 icons on the left and the "program bar" along the bottom.

I can access the programs and files from the "start" button so it looks like it's all still there.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try the restore do it to one day before, it can not hurt and may get you out of this.  Seems like some of these updates are not quite right, could be they have their hands full there has been a major security breach world wide.

Hello,
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and today or maybe yesterday the Recycle Bin Icon on the Desktop disappeared. Went into Personalize/Change Desktop Icons and the Recycle Bin is checked. I unchecked and rebooted and then checked it and rebooted with no change in the results. I tried adding the Computer to the Desktop and it too will not display.
Any help is appreciated. I been fighting with this install and the Zonealarm problem and the Commodo Firewall problem.
Thanks in advance

Greetings every1.
I was browsing around and found a tutorial to add a fully functional recycle bin to the taskbar. I got it to work perfectly so i deleted the one off my desktop. A few days ago i accidentally deleted it from the taskbar and got stuck. I figured i would just restore it to the desktop again. The problem started there for i could not figure out how to restore it. I did some googling and tried to restore it from the desktop icons setings window, however the recycle bin icon was unclickable. Is there any other way for me to restore my recycle bin to the desktop?

A:Cannot restore recycle bin to desktop.

i have found a solution and will be trying it out shortly.

Recycle Bin Icon - Allow or Prevent to Display

it worked.

I deleted the recycle bin icon from my desktop about a month ago. I was trying to get everything all the desktop, and did. I'm not sure if it was a good idea to delete recycle bin though, as now I cannot figure out how to empty it. Can anyone help?

A:No recycle bin icon on the desktop

Okay first of all.... how the hell did you delete Recycle Bin from your desktop?:D Must be some really bad registry cleaner or something.

Hello,

This is my first post here so please excuse me if this is not post in the right section.

About 4 or 5 days ago I noticed a couple of new folders in both my HD They are called $recycle.bin and System Volume Infomation. These folders did not exist before and they are located on the "C" drive and the "D" drive (two seperate HD). Both of these files are protected and cannot be removed. When I check the property and I remove the read only from the $recycled .bin file I can delete it but it comes right back. I know it's related to a file called desktop.exe because, it ask me to delete this file whenever I delete the $recycle.bin file.

The $recyle.bin and desktop.exe also copy themselves automatically to anything I attach to the PC, (External drive or USB Key). The best I can figure is that those two files are Virus/Trojan/Worm

Sometime I also see a file called autorun.bin I just deleted 259 instance of these files but they keep on coming back.

Whatever I found so far on the net, is about XP but I'm running Vista ultimate. Don't know if that makes a huge difference.

I ran a series of spyware/adware software but nothing seam to work. I've tried in Safe mode as well as in regular mode,

Norton AV 2008
Ad/aware
Spyware doctor
Malwarebites
Window defender
Spybot SD

I also went into the registry and I cannot locate these files

System restore also didn't work, it gave me an error and would not revert back.

My PC has go... Read more

I'm sure this has been answered before somewhere but I just don't know where it would be. I have successfully made a copy of the recycle bin and pinned it to the task bar. Yeah. Now; how do I remove the original recycle bin from the desktop. I've done some goggling and I'm unable to find some clear, simple, straight forward instructions. Having a clean looking desktop is awesome for me but the wife could care less....lol.

A:Desktop Icons: recycle bin

In control panel click personalization, then at top left click change desktop items, then simply untick any icons you dont want

Over the weekend my son was working on a dell 800 laptop using ms word and an onscreen keyboard called discover by madentec and all of a sudden the computer shut down. When we rebooted...all of the files and shortcuts on his desktop were gone. The only thing left was the recyle bin...and that was empty. We've run a virus scan and nothing comes up. Any idea what could have happened?
