WSUS Windows 8.1 Pro error 800B0001

Q: WSUS Windows 8.1 Pro error 800B0001

Hello.

I have a WSUS server having the following specs:

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1

WSUS MC 3.0

I connect all of my PC within my domain with my WSUS Server.

The Win7 and Win10 PC does not experience any trouble when checking for updates but the Win 8.1 Pro shows an error 800B0001 when I check for updates.

Do you know the best way to solve this?

Thank you.

PS. My Windows Server was updated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running WSUS on Server 2008 R2 x64.  I have Windows XP, Vista, and 7 clients connecting to it without any problems.  I recently installed Windows 8 Pro from my TechNet subscription on one of our workstations and I'm getting
an error 800B0001 when I try to run Windows Update.  I have tried the fix found at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2720211 already with no luck.  When I'm adding a new system to our network, I use a registry entry to enter the settings and another one to remove them
when I'm finished (I have a computer repair shop so we see lots of computers come through).

Here's the registry key used to instruct the system to look to the WSUS server for updates:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"WUServer"="http://192.168.5.23"
"WUStatusServer"="http://192.168.5.23"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
"IncludeRecommendedUpdates"=dword:00000001
"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
"AUOptions"=dword:00000002
"ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000

A:Windows 8 Pro WSUS error 800B0001

Here is the solution that worked for me.  The only issue I had was that my Windows 8 client still errored (different error than the 800B0001 error I had earlier) the first time I told it look for updates.  I had it check for updates a second
time and everything worked as expected.  It was provided on another thread that I was following as well:

KB2734608
Issues that are fixed
This update lets servers that are running Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3.2 provide updates to computers that are running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.

Additionally, the following issues are fixed by this update:

Installation of update 2720211 may fail if Service Pack 2 was previously uninstalled and then reinstalled. After you install update 2720221, health monitoring may fail if the WSUS server is configured to use SSL.

Additionally, this update includes the following fixes:

After upgrading I'm unable to run windows update. It gives the error code 800B0001. I have run the windows hotfix for this error and also tried several solutions given by Microsoft. It doesn't seems to fix it. I have attached a screen print of the error for your information.

What can be the issue and is there a solution foe this?

Hello everyone, I've looked around at other threads related to my issue, and I can't seem to find a correct answer.
I have a computer lab that I've recently installed a Windows 7 Enterprise image onto 35 Dell Optiplex computers (most are 380's, a few older 360's).
I created the image using MDT2010 and used one of the 380's as a reference.
All has been well for about a month or two but recently 6 computers are giving me Windows Update errors with the error code of 80080005.
I have a WSUS 3.0 SP2 server running, and all of my other computers seem to be getting their updates just fine.  WSUS has the problematic computers in it's database, but it shows that they haven't checked in for "x" days.
I have Avast 4.8 Professional installed, I have OpenDNS configured to block bad websites, ____, etc. and I also use an Untangle server to prevent access to bad websites.  I've ran a Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware scan on the affected computers, as well
as Windows Defender scan, and Windows Live OneCare scans, and all have found no malicious software.
I have also tried resetting the Windows update service as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 as well as a script that supposedly does the same thing, but also resets all previous
update events, but I can't find the script source right now (I had ran it last week, and it didn't work).

Alright, I re-attempted to run the "SFC /scannow" command under a Administrator Command Prompt window, and got this error:
"SFC /scannow error message: Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"
I searched around a bit, and found a suggestion to check that the TrustedInstaller/Windows Module Installer is running.
When trying to start the Windows Module Installer, I get this error:

Windows Modules Installer - Error 1450 Insufficient System Resources
What a fun problem this is turning out to be.  I'd like
to just re-image these computers, but I fear that it'll just happen again and I'm wondering why it's only a handful of computers that are affected, yet I have over 65 machines that were all installed from the same exact image.

I'll keep poking along trying to find something that fixes this darn issue.  If anybody comes up with any ideas, I'll gladly try them.  Thanks!

I recently installed SP1 for Windows Server Update Services on all of our 2k3 servers. I have not had any problems except 1. I noticed that it was not working correctly and i attempted to use the management site which did not allow me in. I was giving a database error/auth failure.

I have been looking around the web and i am more or less having the same issue as:

http://www.wsus.info/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t7940.html

When i checked the event viewer i noticed that it said it was having authentication errors. So i viewed the properties of the Update Service and found it was trying to log on with some weird credentials. I changed it to use the system credentials which was enough to atleast get the service started. However, im still having issues with actually having WSUS connect to the database.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem short of uninstalling and reinstalling WSUS?

The only solution to this problem that i have found is to re-run the setup and uninstall the database. Make sure to leave the update files and logs.

Then simply re-install the wsus and it is up and working without hardly any configuration.

I am running WSUS from a Win 2003 server which is out of free space and giving an error message.

Question 1: what is it safe to delete from the WSUS\WsusContent folder to make more room (it is currently taking up 32 Gig of a 40 gig hard drive)

Question 2: I don't know if this is related or not, but when I tried to open WSUS, I got the error: Server Error in '/WSUSAdmin' Application. Parser Error Message: Unable to load file 'adminstrings'

Then it refers to line 258 of source file c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322\config\machine.config.

A:Loading IE10 via WSUS gives me a 9c59 error

SFC apparently managed to fix one error - and CheckSUR found no problems.
The installation appears to have been halted by the following error...

I would suggest attempting to bypass the error by installing IE11, rather than IE10 (it sometimes works!)

If that doesn't work, then try downloading the IE10 full-install package from here...

Download Internet Explorer 10 - Microsoft Windows

and see if that works.

I already have restarted the pc, run the dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth and /restorehealth, tried to delete the reg key that cbs.log tells to not be able to delete itself (in this case the error is "cannot find" instead of "cannot delete").

Hi. I've been an IT student for a while now but I don't have more than an overview of Servers. Can a server control any policies on it's clients without using group policies and active directory? I'm trying to understand configuring clients to use a WSUS server when you can't use active directory. Instead, would you have to configure each individual client, using local group policy, to update from the WSUS instead of the Update website? Thank you for any help. Shannon.

A:Windows 7 and WSUS

Hi Shanon Welcome to TSF

WSUS is windows update system that will monitor updates released by MS and tell you so you can approve or decline updates before they are applied to all the Computers in your domain environment so instead of computers going out to MS site and looking up updates and then downloading them individually they will be looking at the WSUS server and WSUS will download updates one time and then apply to rest of the computers (saves bandwidth)
As for WSUS and group policy - WSUS gets updates - GPO created for WSUS will dictate which updates will go to which workstation in which OU
Again this does not mean that client can't open up Windows update from Control panel and hit the link to "check online for updates from MS Update" and download whatever they feel like

Hi all,

I've recently started in a new job as an ICT technician. I'm working with a system admin at a local school.

In previous jobs I've always used a "gold image" to deploy out to machines. In the new job there is no such thing unfortunately, making new installs a long drawn out affair (lots of additional software installs. Office, Visio, custom programs etc)

I have some spare time on my hands soon, so was thinking of creating a standard image that I can deploy (just via USB) to new machines that need to be imaged.

I already have a WinPE boot disk and understand the concept of sysprep and configuring in audit mode after a clean install (this will be my approach) I will probably then use CloneZilla to image the final product and deploy onto single machines where needed.

... I have a few questions!

1. How should I handle Windows updates? These are normally pushed out via WSUS - Some things should *not be installed* latest IE for example. WSUS is only pushing out IE9 due to some compatibility issues with sites that are currently used (there may be other updates that are not installed, but I'm not 100%) - What would be the best approach here? Not using the standard Windows update before I sysprep, or joining the domain, installing updates via wsus, then leaving the domain and running a sysprep?

2. Being as all the machines will be the same make and model, would it be worth including drivers into the mix, or will they be removed with sysprep? I be... Read more

A:Windows 7 Enterprise Deployment & WSUS

Don't have time to answer all your questions, but I can tell you that you do not need to join the domain to use WSUS, just configure the proper settings either in Group Policy or in the registry directly. Having them part of the domain only aids in mass configuration.

My computer is on an AD domain and we have a WSUS server serving updates. However only certain categories of updates are auto approved so typically what I used to do with windows 7 is every once in a while click "Check for updates from microsoft" and this would bypass WSUS and reach out to microsoft for updates. Now this Windows 10 install USED TO have that button but it does not anymore. How can I restore this functionality as I am sure there are plenty of non-critical updates for Windows 10 over the lats few months that I am missing. I am a local/domain admin so access is not an issue.

Hi, I have an issue with Windows 8.1 clients using WSUS.
I have had a GPO set up to apply to All my computers in my domain, majority of them are Win 7 and WSUS is working perfectly, updates are downloaded and installed automatically and when user shut down, they have the install updates and shutdown option.
Settings in the GPO are: auto download and schedule the install everyday at 10am from a local WSUS server.
These settings as stated are working perfectly fine on Win 7 clients and updates are installed with no user intervention.
However, with the Windows 8.1 clients, the updates are downloaded to the machines from the WSUS server but they are not installed on the computer. There is no option to update and restart or update and shutdown they just sit in Control Panel\Windows Update
until someone manually goes in and clicks install updates.
I have installed the required updates onto my WSUS server for Win 8.1
I have ensured the GPO is applying to the machine which it is, i have also tried settings the 'Install during automatic maintenance' option in the same policy and configuring all options under maintenance scheduler and still nothing.
I can see that the settings are applying to machines via RSOP and the settings are set and unchangeable in teh relevant areas of Windows.
Automatic Maintenance runs and the time and date stamp for last run time changes but the updates are not installed as part of this and they are still sat in Windows Updates with the 'Install Upd... Read more

I've been tinkering around with a test installation for the past few weeks, as a way of getting to know the quirks of my system after Windows Update stopped working. I purchased a bigger 2nd hard disk for storage (my OS is on an SSD), so I decided I'd just test the waters for a few weeks without worry, then conduct a clean install of 8.1 and reinstall everything where it should be.
The test installation/s originally encountered a hitch whereby Windows 8.1 would not update. Since then, I've realised that's a problem not just with my machine. Luckily, I discovered WSUS Offline Updater. It did its thing, triggering whatever that was broken with Windows Update to kick into life. All was great. Windows updated itself. So, a few weeks later, I decided to go ahead with the same process for my proper clean install once I'd learnt everything I needed to know during these few weeks of tinkering.
Unfortunately, WSUS Offline Updater is misbehaving.
It downloads the multiple gigs worth of updates, installs them successfully, then asks me to reboot my system (which, incidentally, would be the time when Windows Update would rouse itself from its reverie), but upon restart it's as if nothing was installed. The log files point to a successful process with no validation and verification errors, but not only are there no updates installed, but Windows Update itself is still not working.

With extended support ending January 14th, 2020 for Windows 7 and MS's Extended Security Updates thru January 2023 - does anyone know how that will work if we are using a WSUS server for distributing updates? Does anyone know if we would just have to pay
for the WSUS server(s) for extended security updates or how will that work? I can't seem to find any information on that.

when I update my Win7 clients monthly after the Tuesday patchday with the newest WSUS Updates from Microsoft it takes up to 5 hours until the client has detected the needed updates. During this time there is no high CPU or disk utilization.
Win8.1 or WinSrv 2012 R2 clients only take 5-10 minutes for the same process. All machines get the updates from a Win2012R2 WSUS within a local network (1GBit).
How can I reduce this time for Win7 clients?

Hi acurasd,

Improper DNS configuration in your Server causes a lot of networking issue including GPO and other things.
Make sure that DHCP is enabled and configured from your Win08 Server, disable DHCP from your router if you have not.

For your Server (Main DC), here's a proper config:
192.168.1.5 --> Static IP of Server
255.255.255.0 --> Subnet
192.168.1.1 - Default Gateway

192.168.1.5 - DNS - You have to point the DNS Address to the Server itself.

In DNS Manager from your Win08 Server, right click on the Server Name, choose Properties, locate Forwarders Tab and add the DNS Resolvers here. If you don't know those DNS's you may call your ISP.

Assign DHCP to all Client PC's on your network, match the ipconfig /all from your Server, make sure that the Client PC has a DNS of 192.168.1.5, Def. Gateway of 192.168.1.1 and Subnet of 255.255.255.0.

Now, test your GPO and WSUS, see if issue persist. Pls. keep us posted.

Today whilst doing a clean W7 SP1 Reinstall and a W10 Pro Reinstall, for some reason on both machines somehow the windows update was not fully functional.

A bit of research and came across this tool, which downloaded the relevant updates (progress in command line window):
WSUS Offline Update - Update Microsoft Windows and Office without an Internet connection

Using "WSUS Offline Update", you can update any computer running Microsoft Windows and Office safely, quickly and without an Internet connection.
Please note the patch coverage information.Click to expand...

Edit: When before downloading, select folder for USB (so updates are in the folder).

Then launch the exe inside the created folder.

Also works for W8.1 as well as Office versions etc.

Did a fresh install of win7 x64 and had the problem with windows update checking for update forever so decided to install updates via wsus offline installer

Wsus found and installed 210 updates and installed them then found another 28 but in the meantime window updater that i left running found 217 updates as well so now im installing the updates with windows updater and i'm not sure if that's the right thing to do?

Should i reinstall windows again and install updates only with wsus?
Or windows updater will skip the updates installed by wsus?

Not sure what to do now any advice please?

Hi there,

I run IT for a 70 people who are all running Windows 8.1.  I'm not seeing the Windows 10 reservation screen on their machines to which I have seen and activate don my home machines.

All updates are pushed out via my WSUS but the required update (KB3035583) is not showing in my WSUS.  It is available as an optional update if I choose to search Window's updates for updates.

Naturally I want this to be pushed out via WSUS to save time.

Any ideas would be much appreciated as I can't find anything online.

Thank you.

A:Windows 10 reservation update (KB3035583) not showing in my WSUS

Hi,
One of the files deposited by KB3035583 in the folder "GWX" -- some have interpreted that as "Get Windows 10" -- is "config.xml," which includes a long list of instructions on how the ad-based notification system will work.

The additions were atop the previous (EnableEnterpriseSku)false(/EnableEnterpriseSku) and (EnableDomainJoined)false(/EnableDomainJoined), that blocked the ad campaign from Windows Enterprise, the corporate edition available only through volume licensing deals,
and barred it from Windows devices that connect to a network domain. The latter would rule out the notifications' appearance on devices running the Pro edition, such as Windows 7 Pro, when they're joined to a corporate domain.

Hi IT folks,
I'm currently facing a 'weird' problem with my Windows 8.1 WSUS clients. Server OS WSUS clients are all reporting back to my WSUS server, but for unknown reason, Windows 8.1 WSUS clients are not. A few days ago, all WSUS clients are able to download both
Windows Defender (WD) AV definitions and Windows Update, now only WD AV definition updates are successful.
WD AV definitions are auto-approve in WSUS, the rest are <g class="gr_ gr_132 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="132" id="132">manually</g> gets approved. I've already
tried using Windows Update Troubleshooter and said it has fixed few problems - tried to check for updates, still gets stuck with 'checking for updates...'.
OS in my environment:
WS 2012/2016 - working well both AV definitions and Windows Update
W8.1 - only downloading of AV definitions is working

Hi,
I have several Win7 x64 SP1 clients on a private network not connected to the internet. Other machines on the network are downloading updates OK. They have all been running for a few years now andconnecting to a WSUS server (version 3-2.7600.226, install

A while back some of the PCs stopped reporting to the WSUS server and now will not update at all. I have tried connecting directly to the Internet and no matter what I try I cannot get them to update.
I have extracts from the WindowsUpdate log, Windows Error Report, I have run the WSUS Diagnostic Tool and have also tried to re-install dot net 3.5 and 3.5 sp1.

I have been able to download the updates with WSUS, however, I am stuck on 'Listing IDs of missing updates'.
Malwarebytes and Spybot are the only programs on here at this time that are even close to seeing something viral. Cryptoprevent was not causing a problem to my knowledge.

I stopped giving windows and WSUS time after 14 hours of no discernible improvement. I even made the automated ISO and tried installing from there.
The Internet works with everything else that's stock in Windows. I updated to IE 11. Lenovo needed .NET framework 4.0 and their driver updater worked great.

I don't have the original Lenovo Discs. They think I am going to buy them again. M$, of course, won't give me a clean ISO due to OEM status. I found the ISO another way.

Is there a specific KB that can update Windows Update?
I can't even get the .msu to install from this thread windows 7 update stuck at "checking for updates..."

3050265 was the KB... Thanks Everyone!

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
You can get installation media with this for free and yes it does get the iso from Micro... servers
https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/techno...-download-tool

It's a lot easier to clean install these days with the unofficial sp2
There are essentially 3 updates needed for a clean install of windows that will get you updated through April of 2016

KB3020369 & KB3125574 & KB3172605 all can be downloaded from the catalog using internet explorer
Microsoft Update Catalog

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...ows-7-and-8-1/
When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

After restart you will need to ensure the built in windows update service is stopped and set to manual first too or it will conflict with the stand alone installer.

Afterwards reset the windows updates service to what it was before and update settings to your preference and check for updates
Should be only 50 or so updates left to install.

Or you can get all three updates off my OneDrive

Problem is that i do not have a WindowsUpdate folder under
Windows one. I do not want to use GPO to setup updates.

So how i need to setup those clients to start getting updates from mu WSUS? Where is WindowsUpdate folder, why is missing?

Hi
I am a network manager in a school in Australia, we have Windows 2012R2 Domain and we have a BYOD program for our students and staff. The staff are using Surface Pro 3 (Windows 8.1 & 10) (not domain members) and the students are using an Acer Windows
8.1 & 10 Home device.
Windows Updates are a real problem as we have a relatively small internet bandwidth updates are constantly taking up a large portion of it. This is creating problems with the surface 3's as well, as we have docks on each desk to mirror to TV's and Data projectors,
but the dock won't work during an active update.
The question is can I put in a WSUS server that will serve Windows Updates to Windows 8.1 & 10 Home & non domain member Surface Pros that connect to our network to manage Windows Updates locally?
If this can be done can I get some information of how?
Thanks

Are they picking other updates up still?
IIRC, WSUS only downloads a minimal SP - so that the clients have to be fully updated before they will see the SP offered (but I could be wrong - it's been a while)
