I just had the following hardware scan that resulting in a failed test on one of my storage drives.

This comes after a major windows 10 update a few days ago.

See the attached report for more info on the failure (SMART Status Test) and the warning (SMART Short Self Test).

Can this be repaired or do I need a new drive?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

The device is a 16GB Solid State Drive (SSD) that is used by the Lenovo box to speed performance by caching frequently-used areas from the main hard disk. The error indicates a fault with the SSD (I have had the same problem on 2 different SSDs after using them for about a year each). I'm not sure why the SSDs seem to keep doing this - perhaps the write cycle count of certain blocks is reached too quickly in this environment, or maybe the ExpressCache software used for this function is not completely bug-free. You can continue to use the SSD as it seems from my experience that it continues to work, but not quite as efficiently as the faulty block(s) would mean the data there would be fetched from the Hard Disk after all. It would be good to hear more on this from Lenovo so that we can figure out the best course of action.

Hi - When doing my hardware scan, the MotherBoard PCI/PCI e test failed resulting in code: WMB008000-RO8YHK. I have also been having issues with a blinking cursor and a transparent white circle behind the cursor. I'm not sure if this is related, but does anyone know if I need to do a specific driver update or some other way to fix this issue? Thanks for your help!

Hi, I got this too with my Y700, it's down to the VGA driver rather than the hardware but it shouldn't affect any functonality so no need to worry about it. Hopefully Lenovo will issue a new driver soon to resolve it If you don't want to wait I managed to solve it by installing the most recent driver from the Intel website, please note you won't be able to run this from the .exe download, you'll need to download the zip file, extract it, and then install the driver from device manager.

I know I am behind the times using a Thinkpad T400 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit but I am having a heck of a time using  this machine as it constantly freezes up.  I tried running the diagnostics and it failed on the SMART tests and did not complete the remainder of the tests ie video card, etc.  The final result code was:W1UKDVUB5-QE4MD9 Does anybody know what this code means - how much trouble am I in and why is this machine freezing up all the time? Thanks for any thoughts or assistance. Lorelei

The desktop is ideacentre 700-25ISH, I bought it for less than two months and actually I was out of town for several weeks last month. It is basically brand new. I run the hardware health check from lenovo companion and got the error code WMB010000-WM7VJI. The reason that I run the test is just because the machine may power off abruptly everyday. And I once got a message like USB  port power surge after login. When the machine is down, I have no way to power it up. The only thing I can do is just unplug everything and use the desktop tomorrow.

Hello! I am troubleshooting a s230u/Twist and and having some issues getting it to POST. At the moment there is not a keyboard or a battery connected to it as I was trying to narrow down a couple of issues. When I plug in the AC to the machine I get the green light. I can press the power button on the monitor and the fan will spin for 2-3 seconds and then stop spinning. I get no display on the monitor but the power light remains on as well as the red light above the Lenovo logo. I habe tried connecting an external display as well but nothing will appear on that either. I also get no beeps from the speakers.  I have tried holding in the reset button at the bottom of the laptop for 2-3 seconds and releasing it but it doesn't seem to have any effect.  Does anyone else have any ideas? I am comfortable handling most repairs on machines but am just not familiar with Lenovo specifically.  Is it required to have a battery/keyboard plugged into the machine for it to POST? Is there anything other than AC Power and the monitor required to be plugged in for the system to POST?  Thanks!

I have a twist that won't even get to the splash screen.  It occasionally does, but only after I start it about 10 times.  I'll turn it on and it goes right to a black screen.  It is running because it powers up and the fans start, but just a black screen.  Is this some hardware issue?  All I do is turn it on and shut it off 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 times until it gets to a splash screen and all of the options it gives me just loops me right back to the option screen.  Nothing boots.  Any ideas?

hello all.. my lenovo twist s230u was working fine until a couple of days ago.. the touch screen has stopped working completely and when i go to the pc properties, it shows '' no pen or touch input is available for this display''.. i've updated my display drivers and installed the touchscreen patch but to no avail. i wonder what the problem may be.. please help.. i'm on the windows 8 -64bit os. thanks

Hi All, I have a 2 year old Lenovo 230u Twist. It was working fine and.then next day it does not boot. When I say it does not boot, I mean, nothing comes up on the screen. The screen remains black. When I press the power button, I hear the fan kick in for about 1.5 seconds and then stop. The red power dot glows above the i in Thinkpad so I know it is on. The machine stays on and you can feel it get warm. It just seems to never get past the initial power on and never makes it to the bios. Again. the screen stays black with nothing displayed on it at all. I am afraid it is the motherboard but before I even think about dropping that much money for repair, I want to be sure What I have tried that does not work for me:1. Plugged in the adapter and see the green indicator glow. keep it plugged in for awhile and try to power on and get same behavior2. Hit the reset button for 1-2 seconds on the bottom of the laptop and press the power button. Same behavior.3. Remove the harddrive and tried powering on, get the same behavior as described. To me this proves that it is not even geting to the bios4. Carefully disassembled/disconnected everything down to the motherboard/systemboard and them reseated everything. Pressed power button and same behavior5. Powered on and let it sit for a hour. Still same behavior (except bottom gets pretty warm)6. Hi Shawn It can be interesting if you an share the full model of your laptop. It seems that you did all the steps to try to pin-point the problem. When I get into a no-boot situation I tried what you already did. Disconecting things, swapping memory, disks and any other things to see if it boots. It is very bad that it does not gives you any code, beep, or information at boot. It will seems to be me that is a mainboard problem and need to be replaced, but I don't know any testing tool for the mainboard. Regards

When my Twist starts from the off state, it shuts down immeadiately after the Lenovo screen shows.  When I restart, it boots normally and works just fine.  I have no problems coming out of sleep state. This behavior started when I recently installed a Samsung 860 SSD.  It doesn't matter whether I have unit plugged in or not. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this might be happening?

I have an older s230u Thinkpad Twist that I barely use anymore because it has become abysmally slow.  I just want something lightweight to take to work with me other than my 17.3 inch Alienware beast that always gets wicked stares, and weighs over 20lbs in the backpack with the PSU.   A couple years ago I freshly installed Windows 10 removing all previous partitions, installations etc.  In the past I have always been **bleep** about imaging new PCs with Acronis, but some reason I cannot find the original image on my dozens of external HDDs I have laying around.   I have multiple questions regarding this: FIrst, the 24gb inlcluded ssd - Since I did a bare windows installation on the main drive, with no original drivers/bloatware left in the laptop, is this drive even functioning anymore? How do I know?  How does it even work? (I am not very savvy on the whole "hybrid" thing)  Microcenter has a 256GB mSATA drive for $70, if I put this in, will it even do anything, and how do I get it to function?  I would just assume store/run my entire system on this drive if it were possible.  I see it  in the disk management when I open it up, but no idea how it is actually working, if it is even working.   I have been able to take the laptop apart enough to find the HDD/SSD slot and the mSATA slot, so the harware installation is not a problem for me.   Would I be better off replacing the main mechanical HDD... I have a ThinkPad S230u with a possible monitor problem.  It has Windows 8 pro and while logged in if you wiggle or twist the monitor it switches between the Start screen and Desktop screen.  Or if you are carrying it around, it might happen.  Touch screen works just fine.  I've updated the drivers and rebooted but it is still happening.  Not sure where the issue is and taking it apart to look for physical issues is not the best option.  Best ideas for a resolve would be greatly appreciated! Thank you,ITproJim

I have installed all current drivers and current BIOS 1.87(I'm at work so could be off on revision #, but Vantage just installed last night 11/06/2018) for my Twist S230u, however when I run Intel's detection tool it continues to tell me my system is vulnerable) I have attempted to reach out to Lenovo Support, as it appears they are continuing to release updates to BIOS/UEFI, however was turned away for system not under warranty.  No actual technician probably even read the message when the system flagged as out of warranty.  Anyhow I am hearing sometimes Intel's tool is not always right... Does anyone know if the SA-00086 vunerability was patched?  I have searched all over and can't find an answer.  I Don't see an option in BIOS to disable ME, as most of my Dell's have.  Intel refers all BIOS matters regarding patches back to manufacturer stating they have provided all the updates and patches required, simply up to manufacturer to apply and post.  Hopefully someone sees this and either passes it along, or can inform me if it's simply a false positive on the vunerability check.  Thanks.

I have a Lenovo Twist s230u, and after installing Linux Mint 17.3 I have experienced issues with the touchpad. TouchPad works fine in a warm boot (Restarting after OS loads), but in a cold boot the touchpad is non-functional.It's not just me, others have also reported the same problems after updating to the recent BIOS updates.http://www.linlap.com/lenovo_thinkpad_twist I am currently on BIOS version 1.71 and versions 1.52 and below do not cause the touchpad issues on Linux. I have tried running the 1.52 Bios update utility (In Windows) and allowing rollback in the BIOS settings.I get this error message after running the 1.52 BIOS utility:BIOS image file does not match this systemThe utility process has not completed The download page for the bios updates state that it is not possible to roll back after updating to 1.71. Is there any workaround for this to be able to downgrade to 1.52? Or will there be a new update that will fix these issues on Linux? Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have  a solution, just some thoughts...
 
Maybe you can try to confirm the issue with other OSes, maybe you can boot from CD/USB other Linux versions to confirm that the error remains. Check out which other versions of Linux are afected with the changes on the BIOS if it applies and also try to find other Linux users of the same machine.
 
After that the only idea that cames into my mind is trying to escalate the issue with Lenovo support.

My HDD died suddenly a few weeks ago and took everything with it..Before that I had successfully updated from the original Win8 to 8.1 and later to Windows 10, never losing any functionality. With the new hard drive I now have performed the 3rd clean install, including one off the recovery files in the computer (was not aware of that funtion at first), with both 32-bit and 64-bit varieties, but I have been left every time without the touch-screen functionality of the system. The Device Mgr simply does not show any trace of a "HID compliant touch screen", neither hidden nor in the open.=> What drivers do I need to download (from where?) and install, to get the OS to "see" the hardware?I have tried the "System Interface Foundation" install, but without any visible success. Thank you

Equipment:Lenovo Twist s230uTargus DisplayLink2 x Lenovo e2224 monitors I've seen this issue several times with the same or different machines on the web but have yet to find the my fix.  I have my monitors set up in extended view and at least one will flicker with lines and/or go black for a few seconds randomly.  Particularly after the computer has locked.   I have: - Checked drivers for USB, Displays, the dock - Completely replaced the dock - Replaced all wires and cords - Tried a different USB port - Confirmed BIOS version What I have noticed is the displays are okay if any of the following is done: - The laptop is unplugged and on battery - The resolution is changed down to 1400x900 from 1920x1080 - The display is twinned instead of extended view. Anyone have any further thoughts?

I have gone to the Lenovo warranty check page and entered the SN exactly as it says on the machin, but the search couldnt find anything.Then I stripped the "-" from the SN and tried again, still nothing. Then I tried the autmatically detect method. downloaded and installed the Lenovo Service bridge program.But that only says "#lsb failed to detect" So how can I check the warranty status if the webpage dont want to take my serial number?

Hey all, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist s230u with a 24GB SSD and 320GB HDD. Recently my pc had boot repair problems, and I had to reinstall windows 10. Thinking that this was the original location, I reinstalled windows 10 on the 24GB SSD using diskpart commands to reformat the SSD to ntfs, and removed the original windows 10 from the HDD. I also reformatted both hard drives as part of a clean install.Now I've done some research and found out that the 24GB SSD isn't meant to be used as a boot drive for windows 10 and is instead meant to be used as an SSD cache. After looking up how to perform SSD caching, I found that Lenovo used ExpressCache as the software to cache the SSD; however, it seems that the software doesn't provide support to this laptop in windows 10, only on windows 8.1. So my question therefore is, is there any other way for me to use this 24GB SSD as a cache? or perhaps ExpressCache software still works even though Lenovo Twist isn't included in the windows 10 version?Also, if I ended up just keeping the OS in the 24 GB SSD and using as a boot drive what would happen? Or am I SOL with this 24GB SSD?Thanks,

It is unclear exactly when the problem began, but there was a windows 10 update, then a bios update shortly before I noticed the problem.   The touchpad behaves erratically, selecting/unselecting or inserting text, allowing  little to no control of intended tapping actions.  Pointer features seem to work fine, erratic behavior involves tapping only.  I believe the bios is the most current version, and I have updated the touchpad driver.  It is not clear to me whether there is an issue with the bios or touchpad driver installation or software, or if the touchpad has failed.  Looking for help to figure out how to resolve the issue.

 I have installed a Intel WiFi part 2230BNHMW chip with FRU P/N 04W3765 card on my Twist i5 s230U so that I can project my screen onto a tv. It works! The issue I am now having is that the bluetooth is not working. I have installed the latest Intel software for the bluetooth driver and still no joy. Is there a way to update the enumerator and le enumerator from 2006 drivers? Is it necessary? 
 
Please help, this forum has been great so far, I appreciate your looking at this and any assistance is appreciated.
