I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are you sure the partition's really deleted? I dual-booted Linux 13 and 17 on XP and Win 7 without a hitch unless one tried to customize the parition themselves proir installation. The only time I heard user laments on this issue is if something badly mauled GRUB. Good luck!

It sounds to me like your rescue and recovery partition may be corrupted. My recommendations is to get the rescue and recovery CD's from Lenovo. I had to purchase some for an old T40 and it cost me like $45, but after you have them you can have piece of mind that you can replace the hard drive and still restore back to Factory settings. After you get the recovery CD's I would recommend reinstalling rescue and recovery.

Welcome to the forum!

You cannot upgrade the video card since it's soldered to the motherboard, and yours had the better graphic chip available for this series. See the original specs below:

ThinkPad Z61m - 9450-3HG
T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, IEEE 1394, FPR, Camera, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
The RAM is not the same as the desktop pcs, yours uses SODIMM DDR2-RAM (200 pins) and the maximum supported RAM by the chipset is 3GB.

Hello, I have the issue with Recovery partition on Lenovo ThinkPad Helix. I accidentally deleted this partition when I'm tryed to install custom Windows 7 on this tablet PC. Thus, I have a question, how can I get this recovery image for Lenovo Helix? Thank you in advance.

A:Recovery partition on Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

Hi Murdoqq,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If you deleted the recovery partition, you have deleted the files needed to create the recovery media without which you cannot create a recovery media.

If you get the OEM ISO and re install it, the key should register automatically because it?s flashed into BIOS.

Otherwise, you have to call Lenovo Technical Support and order for a new set of recovery discs. Refer here for further information regarding the same.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I have a 256 SSD a larger HDD.  Just bought this P50 and stupidly decided to use the Lenovo USB Recovery to get Windows 10 Pro on board.  Got halfway through the process and got a "Recovery Failed" notice.  I think it wiped both my hard drives in the process.  I can get to the F1 screen and the F12 screen, but that's it.   I had followed the Lenovo literature to make OS Optimized Defualts set to "enabled" and then went through the process. Now I'm not sure what I can do.

Hi, I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X220 and my C drive (windows drive) corrupted yesterday. I cannot get to Lenovo Recovery to restore my C drive because the C drive was totally corrupted. I use linux bootable usb to try to access my hard drive, the C drive was corrupted, no data can be read, but the Recovery Partition (Q:\) was fine. I try to re-install my Thinkpad using the same OS (Windows 7 Pro-64 Bit) using the product key inside the battery slot to see if my hard drive fails or not, but the Windows that I reinstalled was fine until now. The Recovery Partition was still there, with different Letter path (changed to D:\) and whatever inside the recovery partition was hidden but the partition was 10GB used, so I think what inside the partition was hidden. My question is:1. Can I use my Recovery Partition again to factory reset my Thinkpad?2. Can I use the Recovery Partition with the Lenovo Rescue & Recovery apps that I download from Lenovo Website? Thank you, I still need My Thinkpad X220 eventhough I already have newer Lenovo laptop. Your help is much appreciate.

Hello, I recently inherited a Lenovo Ideapad U310 Model 4375 and it currently has Ubuntu installed with no sign of any Windows partitions.Because of this, I can no longer make a recovery disc (if it was even possible to make in the first place). I've looked up the serial # on Microsoft's website for Windows and the windows product key is to be serviced by OEM (so can't download a Windows 7 ISO).Also, when trying to go through Lenovo's contact us page, the laptop shows warranty has been expired (whcih is fine). However. I could not find a page where I could purchase the recovery disc. Other things I've tried is pressing the Recovery button on the side and selecting "System Restore" from the boot menu. As expected, this does not work as the partition no longer exists. My questiopn is, where can I get a recovery disc to restore this laptop (Ideapad U310 Model 4375) to factory settings?   Thanks,Jon

I wonder if it isn't a windows licencing issue ? I am not if M$ are still supporting installs of Win7 and maybe something is failing there if you are online during the install. Also it will not install if the previous install was upgraded to Win 10 during the period when it was offered for free.Just throwing some possibilities around.

My trusty old ThinkPad z61m just leaked quite a puddle of clear liquid out the bottom of the laptop. Has anyone else experienced this and do any of you have any idea what it is and what could cause this. Some details. 1. It is not the battery. It died years ago and was removed then.2. It is not external spillage. I dusted it off and set it up a couple of hours ago and there is no liquid in the room.3. There is no leak from the celing or window.4. I am alone in the room and have not left it since I set up the laptop. I also do not have any pets (in case anyone googles this issue )5. I saw it when the laptop overheated and shut down. Wiped the desk and laptop clean, cleaned the coolong fan and turned the laptop on again and it seems to be running ok. I did get a tiny bit on my fingertips and they seem to be tingling a little so also curious if this is toxic and if it is safe to use the laptop.

No luck, though. I'm reluctant to do much more, considering I paid money for this drive; what gives? How does one use this mysterious little drive?

I have a 39GB partition formatted with NTFS that's completely blank right now with the standard boot partition, the root partition and the main filestsym partition from my linux. (default install on arch) I had to delete the swap partition in order to make a 4th partition for windows.

My problem here is that my only cd for installing XP is my old thinkpad rescue and recovery cd. I have used the cd for many a reformat but only on single partition drives. Is there any way to use the recovery cd only on my ntfs partition?

Problem is their was no OS and only thing I had too put on it was Windows 2000. It is supposed too have XP on the base image and I need the recovery disks too put the base image back on but can't find any R31 recovery disks for it and IBM tends too think I should pay out $300.00 for a copy of windows XP. Can someone please Direct me too a link as too where I can either order some Recovery CD's or download the data and burn it too a CD too use.

I've been trying many sites and have had only sites that say they have the CD's but I have too sign up and pay for the site only too get on and be told they dont have the R31 CD's but they had diffirent ones that wont work unless I pay more money and buy one of their Laptops. Grrrr

Any help would be great,

The R31 did orginally come with Windows XP home. Since your not the orginal purchaser of the hardware AND software, IBM has no choice other than to sell you a new version of the software. Thats the way Microsoft licenses its software. The only other choice is to buy a OEM version of Window XP, and download (I think they are still on the IBM web site) all of the IBM hardware XP drivers required to to run the R31.

Sorry

Bought a brand new X1 Carbon a couple of days ago.  Came pre-installed with Win10 Pro and I would like to downgrade it to Win7 Pro.  I have my Win 7 CD (Microsoft Select) and I have a Win 7 USB install, and when I go to install from either media, Win7 does not see the 256GB SSD in the X1.  It's prompting me for storage drives.  And the only driver available on Lenovo's support site is the Rapid Storage Driver which doesn't work either.  Win7 setup doesn't list any other attached drives when I want to "browse" for the driver. I have gone into the BIOS and have disabled secure boot, set the UEFI/Legacy to boot into Legacy only and set the OS Optimized Defaults to disabled.  I've played with all these and am not able to get any combination to work. From the Windows 7 setup, I have also gone into the DISKPART, selected DISK0 and did a clear all, created a new partition and made it active and still Win7 setup won't see the drive or the partition.  Frustrates me that in Diskpart, it sees the 256GB SSD, but not during the actual setup. AND I do have the Lenovo Recovery CD's for Windows 7 for the X1 Carbon 20FB that I created from a previous laptop and tried that.  It boots up but I get a Recovery Failed message when I agree to the terms. It shouldn't be this hard to install Win7 on this laptop since there are X1 Carbons that come preinstalled with Win 7.  My mistake for not buying that model but stock is scarce for tho... I should also mention.  I have a Windows 8.1 Pro USB Install as well as a Windows 10 Enterprise USB Install as part of my Microsoft Select, and they both see the 256GB SSD drive to select for the OS.  And the Windows 7 Professional USB Install does work on an older laptop. So I'm thinking it's an issue with Windows 7 and that crappy UEFI BIOS or something along that line.  Not everything is lined up correctly to install Win7.

Hi All,

I have a Thinkpad E330 on Windows 8 that I need to access the advanced start up options with as it has a corrupt boot sector.

So, I use a USB Pen with Windows 8 iso on it (I installed this to the USB pen using the Microsoft ISO to USB tool), when I get to the advanced startup, I choose my language only to be faced with the following message:

"You must log in to access System Recovery Options". I can only press OK to reboot the system.

I didn't make any recovery discs, so am pretty stumped at this stage hoping for advice on here.

Where can I log in to access the System Recovery Options?

Is there any other way round it?

Many thanks.

Lenovo ThinkPad T460p: After creating a recovery USB (16 GB) stick, I received this error at the end: "Windows detected that this program did not run correctly." This is a new machine pre-installed with Windows 7 Professional. I did try the new USB after loading the recovery files, and it did boot up the machine just fine. Problem is, there's no way I can be certain that everything is intact, without actually attempting the complete recovery. I didn't go that far, of course, because I didn't want to wipe out my C: drive. Also, I understand that Windows allows the creation of only one backup copy of a recovery disk/usb (for reasons that make no sense to me); is there any restriction on number of times a user can do a system restore directly from the Lenovo Q: recovery partition? Hi, First post, I hope this is the correct spot, this is more Windows10 rather than X1 Yoga specific per se... If I reset Windows 10 from the recovery partition, will this include ALL the software included when I first received the laptop (including any Lenovo add ons)?  In other words, does it reset Windows to *exactly* the way it was when I received it from the factory?  I need the details on how Lenovo sets up the recovery partition. I haven't had the laptop long, and I'm happy to reinstall what little I've done since receiving it (mainly Office 365). (More details:  I'm setting it up to dual boot Windows and Linux.  I want to fix the bootloader partition.  There are other approaches I could use, but am happy to reset Windows as long as Lenovo has set the recovery partition to be identical to factory settings.  I'll create a recovery disk and system backup after I do the reset, so I have additional options in the future.)

If your machine is a Factory Lenovo, you should have recovery as outlined here, page 36.https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/e450_e455_e450c_hmm_en_sp40a27160_03.pdfThis assumes the recovery partitions are intact. You may need to locate a Windows Repair CD/USB stick to boot from to start the recovery.  If your machine shipped with Dos from Lenovo, and a local shop installed win 8.1, you could download a win8 recovery ISO/similar from microsoft. Did you purchase this machine NEW?If your machine was not a Factory Lenovo, you would not be elgible for Lenovo recovery media, since your win 8 was installed by someone else(shop where purchased?).

Hello,I understand that this question was probably asked a million times, but unfortunately I haven't found a viable solution for my problem. I'll try to describe it in details. I bought a pre-owned W520 laptop, that's supposed to have a Windows 7 Pro. For some reason, the previous owner removed the COA sticker, that was located under the battery. The hard disk is also wiped clean, so no recovery partition is available. I want to install and activate a geniune Windows 7. Some pirated copy of windows is installed there, I tried to extract a license key with Belarc Advisor, but it was some generic OEM key found on the internet, i.e. not genuine. The summary of my talk with the local support and service center- I can't just install any copy of Windows 7 (say download an image from Microsoft), it won't activate without a COA key that is missing- if I can get a recovery media for this exact laptop, it will maybe activate from the key in BIOS- we don't know where to get this recovery media so if someone could help me with these questions- can I legally download a recovery image for this laptop (I only found some links for windows 10 downgrade, which I'm not eligible for)- can I extract the key from BIOS and maybe install a generic Windows 7 - is there even an OEM key in BIOS (because the guys from support center told me it's only for windows 8 and 10, not for 7) and will it activate? thanks in advance. Oleg.

The school district doesn't do recovery and I can't take it anywhere because of confidentiality. One piece of information...it doesn't have a cd driver. Thanks  so much!

Hello experts.

I couldn't do a system update with the lenovo update tool nor upgrade the adobe flash player,
so I went to do a system restore using windows system restore.
Everything went fine(no power outage, etc), but when the comp restarted, it showed this:

No OS listed

Backup not listed

I've tried the following options but it's futile.

It seems the HDD's driver is missing? Because it is encrypted with truecrypt? I'm sure there's a backup image with window's system restore and 2 images with lenovo's system restore.

I've tried knoppix live cd to access the harddisk but they're not accessible, probably because I didn't get to enter the truecrypt startup password?

Recovery partition in HDD is deleted.
I need to access all files in the computer before doing a fresh OS install. Advice please.

I've recently taken delivery of my a new Thinkpad X260.  Like a good little user, the first thing I did was run the utilty which created a recovery disk on a USB drive, which I've stored away carefully. Now.  When I ordered the X260 from Lenovo, I deliberately specified it to be supplied preinstalled with Windows 7 Professional 64, through the downgrade rights in Windows 10 Pro.   I had first established that if and when I wish to upgrade to Windows 10, that will not be a problem for me.  All good. What I am keen to know is, should I ever need to use the recovery USB drive which I created, will that let me reinstall either Windows 10 or 7, or is there anything else which I should be doing to be sure about this? Thanks

I have a thinkpad r61 which has a rescue and recovery application. I did a backup up to 6 months back and completely lost alot of important files. I know that Thinkvantage does not have a backup Undo feature or anything of that sort...but do you know of any way I could restore all or at least some of the files I lost during this backup? An application, a process, etc??

Anything would help. Thanks alot!

Good day and welcome to the community.

If you haven't seen it already, have a look at this long-ish thread on the same issue on an x270 (same generation as your machine: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X270-Bitlocker-requests-recovery-key-every-ti...

Hope it has some clues for you.

Hello everybody!I've buyed months ago a Lenovo G50-70 with Windows 8.1, I don't usually need Windows so I removed it to install a Linux distro. Now I need to reinstall Windows, but I think I've formatted also the recovery partition and when I buyed the laptop there weren't Recovery Disks.Where can I find them?(Sorry for my bad english!)

A:Lenovo G50-70, how to recovery?

hi riccardodalema,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

To recover the G50-70, you need to turn off the machine, press the OneKey Recovery button and select System Recovery. The computer will then boot into a recovery environment where you can restore the system to factory settings.

If the recovery partition is not present anymore and if you didn't create a recovery drive using this method then I"m afraid you will need to contact lenovo and get a copy of the recovery discs (shipping fees may apply).

Alternatively, you may also want to try these steps:
1. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
2. When finished, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD/USB flashdrive
3. After creating the insatller in Step 2, use it to install Windows it (the Windows installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware and you should be able to activate Windows).

Regards
