Solved: Remove Norton Recycle and restore Windows recycle

Q: Solved: Remove Norton Recycle and restore Windows recycle

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this.

My friend has Windows XP Home Edition. He uses Comcast cable. He previously has Norton Anti-Virus. When he found out that McAfee was free with Comcast, he decided to switch. We got McAfee installed and thought we had removed Norton, but we see that the Desktop shows he has the Norton Recycle Bin and does not have the Windows Recycle Bin. And when he deletes a file, it doesn't go to the Norton Recycle Bin.

What is the easiest way to remove the Norton Recycle Bin and restore the Windows Recycle Bin?

Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello all,

Here is the problem I recently (as in 2 days ago) reinstalled the OS on my system because I had that stupid XP Anitivirus hit me and I couldn't get rid of it, I formatted the drive before the install and got the programs I wanted on there. I installed Norton Antivirus 2004 and it gives you the Protected Recycle Bin. I disabled the Protected part like I have always done because I don't need it. Everything has always worked fine until tonight. I deleted some music files, no big deal, went out had a cigarette came back and the recycle bin was empty...I didn't empty it. So I right clicked on it and I saw something I have never seen before....ever. In the menu that drops down after right clicking the first 2 things on that list are "Save Desktop Icons" and under that "Restore Desktop Icons". This has never happened before and it concerns me, I checked the Symantec site and didn't find anything there.....has anyone else seen this and is it a problem? Below is the info on my comp and I am including the HiJackThis log. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Long ago I used Norton Protected Recycle Bin [from Norton Utilities] for earlier Windows.
Is there a free or pay-for product for Windows 7 that will act as NPRB acted?
NPRB was resident, "extended" the regular Windows recycle bin -- deleted folders and/or file stayed and stayed and stayed until either finally overwritten or emptied from NPRB.

A:Norton Protected Recycle Bin equivalent for Windows 7?

solved! Norton Protected Recycle Bin replaced    [title]
I installed Network Recycle Bin Tool, which "extends" the normal recycle bin [even if cleared] by copying files into a designated protected area.
What happened is that I cleared Windows Recycle Bin without looking in it 2-3 hours before I realized that I had accidentally deleted Security installs folder on my Ddrive.  NRBT simply copies files into its bin until I clear them, or, until room runs out, then oldest gets ousted first.

I accidentally moved 70 image files into my recycle bin and when I tried to restore them, they don't show up in the recycle bin; it looks empty when I open it. When I click "empty recycle bin" though, it asks if I want to delete all 70 files. How can I restore these files that don't seem to be there? I restarted my computer to see if that would make these files show up and it didn't.

when I try to restore the files, it makes a beeping sound telling me that it can't restore them. There are no thumbnails or anything indicating that they are in the recycle bin, until I ask it to delete said files and it asks me if I'm sure I want to delete these 70 files. How can I restore them?

There is a file that is located in the C:\$Recycle.Bin folder that I would like to have deleted, but when I go to that folder, nothing is in it, not even when I logged onto the administrator account after activating it using cmd.exe. I know it is there because I seen it when I defragmented the hard drive. It's not a problem, but it is using alot of disk space. Other than doing a destructive reinstall of Windows, does anyone have any ideas on how to delete this file though it can not be seen to even remove it? I did press right alt in the folder to go into folder options to make both hidden and system files visible and its still not there. p.s. the file I want deleted is marked with 500 at the end of the file name. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I am running Windows Vista Business with Service Pack 2.

A:[SOLVED] How do I remove 'ghost' file in C:\$Recycle.Bin?

The folder C:\$Recycle.Bin is the storage for the recycle bin. You should not attempt to delete or modify it's contents in any way. That is why it is hidden by default. What you are seeing is actually a folder. Emptying the recycle bin will delete the contents of the folder but not the folder itself.

1) You can go open recycle bin and then empty it. It just takes one more step to accomplish it.

2) If you have ccleaner you can restore or just clean with ccleaner itself. Honestly I've not used recycle bin for over a month.

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

My gratitude to any and all who can help me.

Good afternoon,
Hopefully someone has experienced this and can offer advice.

A user is deleting files, but they are not appearing in the recycle bin

- user is deleting from her computer, and not a network location, or flash drive
- computer is not partitioned - only has a "C" drive
- computer is W7 32-bit
- user is not a local admin
- Use has 6 different recycle bins (right-click on RB desktop icon > properties > recycle bin location); some of the locations are "My Pictures", "My Videos" etc.... We are not able to manage the size of
these locations.
- all of the RB locations are set to "Custom Size"
- have tried:
a. deleting everything out of the RB
b. (running as admin) RD /S /Q C:\$Recycle.bin
c. set to view hidden & system files/folders, gone to "C" and deleted the $RECYCLE.BIN folder. clicked yest at all the prompts, including: Do this for all current items

** after both b & c, rebooted the computer

So far, nothing has worked. Might anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

even though there is also possibility issue also from the server side setting to this specific user, lets try to troubleshoot from client side
when this issue start happen? for first bet try to perform system restore using restore point
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4692-system-restore-how-do-windows-8-a.html
try to login using local admin PC, check if this issue also persist there
turn of antivirus and security software to check, or you can perform clean boot
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
try to run system file checker to fix registry issue
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
try to login at safe mode with networking, and check
is this issue not persist at safemode with networking, maybe 3rd party software caused this issue
is there any important data on the D drive? please backup if any. Try to reformat this drive and check
the other workaround is try to re-create user profile. Maybe you need local administrator here

A friend of mine uninstalled norton system works (not certain what version, he is pretty computer-stupid ) and it appears it has left behind all it's registry settings and half it's files but the major problem is the Recycle bin has no program associated with it.

Anyone know a quick fix (other than reinstalling, setting the recycle bin back to normal and uninstalling)

He has Windows ME, but the system restore was disabled to save space or I would try restoring back a couple days before he installed Norton or use the old registry.

(Just for the record, this guy thought Norton systemworks would increase his CPU speed, don't ask me why.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an icon for a "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" on my desktop. About once I week I go in and delete all of the files that are protected in it. Recently I have noticed that I have a bunch of duplicate copies of "npqss.ini". The information provided in the recycle bin is that this file was originally located in C:\Windows\System32. The type of file is "Configuration Settings" and the file was deleted by "explorer". Each copy takes up 344KB.

It hasn't caused any problems yet, but it takes forever to clean out my recycle bin. Last time I cleaned it out, I had well over 1000 copies of this file. In the time it took me to write this 100 copies have collected in the recycle bin. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Since my last install of Norton, I noticed the name of my recycle bin has been changed to Norton Protected Recycle Bin. When I "empty recycle bin" there is an option to "empty Norton protected files". When I right-click on the latter option, I'm a little confused. It tells me the number of protected files on a couple of drives and the options are "purge yours" (their all mine), "purge all" or "cancel". I've held back from purging anything b/c I'm not familiar w/ this Norton option. My GUESS is that if it's in my recycle bin, then it's trash.

A response from anyone w/ more experience than me (which isnt' much in this instance) is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Easy one to answer. The "protected" files are just another chance to restore the files that you have trashed. You now have to delete them twice to really get rid of them. Untill you delete the protected files you can still restore them.

In trying to resolve the issue, I've deleted several leftover Windows Live files and registry entries (after making a backup) that weren't removed when I uninstalled Windows Live a few months ago.

For whatever reason, the files won't leave the recycle bin, and the streams are still active.

when turned on for a removable usb device it seems to interfere with being able to unmount the device (at least that was my experience). after turning norton off i was able to dismount usb drives i couldnt get to 'release' before.

as i need to do this about once/week i am wondering if it is possible to create a .bat file to turn off/on the protection w/o having to use the GUI. ala

nprotect /d:N

which would mean disable nprotect services on drive N

also the reverse

nprotect /E:N

to enable it.

i havent been able to find anything on command line switches for nprotect so hoping someone here has some insight.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

If present, try setting the value to 0. Alternatively, delete it.

Greetings group.
I have a 2 month old hard drive that failed on my desktop PC, taking My Documents with 7 years worth of data. I had just moved the folder to the new drive and hadn't gotten a chance to backup yet.
I'm trying to check Recycle bins on my External hard drives to see if I ever had even a partial Documents folder on one of them..
Problem: All 3 of my external hard drives have multiple recycle bins. All of the recycle bins show the same content as my local C Drive on my laptop. I am attaching 2 screenshots for your review. One shot is of the recycle bins on external drive, the other shot is a screenshot of the recycle bins on my C drive on laptop.
I'm logged in as Administrator because my normal login cannot access any of these recycle bins. And my normal login is in the Admin group. Using Windows Explorer as Administrator, I'm unable to see the Recycle bins. I can see them with my regular login. Very odd.

I'm so desperate for help. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

First post, so be gentle.  :)
I have a user, let's call him Joe Schmoe.  We run Windows 8.1 Enterprise, with SharePoint, Server 2012, and redirected folders.  Here's the issue.  Joe accidentally deleted a few folders.  Upon realizing his folly, he opened the Recycle
Bin, found the folders in question, and chose Restore.  Problem is, an error message pops up:
"You need permission from jschmoe to restore this file"
He needs to give himself permission?  We generally frown upon multiple personalities here. ;)
Any/All help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

It's my old desktop computer, Dell Dimension 4700, Windows XP. I accidentally sent some files to the recycle bin that I didn't mean to. But when I right click it in the recycle bin and click restore, nothing happens. I tried clicking restore this item in the top-left corner, still nothing happens.

A:can't restore files from recycle bin

Have you tried just dragging it out
