No internet via wifi router

Q: No internet via wifi router

I have a BSNL Wimax internet(India) connection. I get input from a terrace antenna to a modem(OX253P). An ethernet cable is then connected between the modem and the laptop. My internet works perfectly fine when the ethernet cable is plugged in directly to the laptop. I have also got a TP-Link TL-WR841N 300Mbps Wireless N Router. When I plug in the output from the modem (OX253P) to the WAN port(blue) on TL-WR841N my internet worked for a week via the wifi router, without any configuration.
My internet service went down for a week due to a fault. When it was restored, the internet via the modem to laptop(via an ethernet cable) works but doesn't work when I give the output of the modem(OX253P) to the wifi router WAN port. I have tried resetting both the wifi router and the modem to original settings, MAC cloning etc. but nothing seems to help. Also disabled DHCP on wifi router but no joy.
The WAN light turns off as soon as I connect to the modem via the ethernet cable. I have a feeling that something isn't right with my modem. Can someone please help?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am currently stationed in Germany, and live in a village that has horrible internet. I cannot stream netflix, hulu, and downloads take several hours.

Is there a way to combine the internet that my cell phone receives and the wifi router I have at home to increase speed?

I have the ability to create a wifi hotspot from my cell phone if this helps.

Just something I thought up in my head, and wanted to find out if it is possible. Thanks in advance.

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

A:Internet access via WIFI and share WIFI via second router

Due to the age of XP this is not the best option for what you want to do

Either windows 7 or 8.1 have access to Internet connection sharing (ICS) built in

To use ICS you need at least two connections to the local LAN, these can be any mix of wifi or Ethernet.

As you have a laptop you likely already have a system to use for this

There is a tutorial explaining the basics ... and more on this site

Check it out and post back if you have any issues

So I got a new router yesterday to replace the old one, and I've been working on it for a long time. But I can't seem to figure out why there isn't any internet connection. The new WiFi Router (D-Link DR-842) Shows it is connected to the internet (green light) but in the setup page, it says disconnected. Could the PPPoE details be causing this? As far as I know everything is correctly set up except for the internet part.

Internet in my PC would get disconnected, like not fully disconnected but there will be a /!\ yellow exclamation on the internet icon, not a red X. WiFi on other devices would be working. I use a cable to connect router to PC.

This would happen a few times a day or sometimes it doesn't happen in a day. I would take out the cable from the WiFi router and plug it back and the internet will then work fine.

Why does this happen?

The Router is Tenda N301.

Hi there! I'm not not really techy. I was looking for a customer support number for Tp-link but thought that this forum may be helpful since I can't find their number anywhere on the net. Im using a Tp-link wireless router and I have a modem attached to my pc. I just noticed that if I turn off my router, the Ethernet light on my modem turns off, but the power and dsl lights are still on. Is there a way for me to use my pc even if my router is turned off? If I remember right, i've tried it before and it worked... But now, I have to turn on my router just for me to be able to connect to the net on my pc.

In addition to that, I'm looking at getting a new WiFi router. If I am upgrading my plan, is there a router I should consider that would take advantage of those speeds?

I never have any problems at work, only at home, and only then with wifi - wired connection works fine.

Try refreshing your wireless network profiles by removing all of them then just add your own SSID (wireless network).

If that didn't help, you may changing your wireless security (WEP, WPA or WPA2), make sure that you are on WPA2, it's the safest and most secured.

Ok, your W7 machine is using the USB wifi, and your XP is using the home wifi (ie through your router). I cannot see why your W7 can't use both the USB wifi AND router wifi. Matter of fact it should work from connections point of view. I tried it on my eeepc, with a USB modem attached.

If you are just sharing files from your W7 and Xp, you don't need to be on the internet. That said if both machine can see each other, everything you wanted should be fine. Just create shared folder to be shared between the machines, and surf the net from either. However why do u want to use the USB wifi for internet when you can use your router's?

Called carrier and after 2 hours of trouble shooting they said they had no clue what the problem was. they were not even able to get into router. they said somehow it was blocked and they cant get in. said they never saw this before. they sent me new router and all was well for about 3 months. Now its happening again. This am no internet, no cameras, TV took a long time to come on. Back on phone with carrier, another 2 hours of trouble shooting, found out when I pull wifi cable out of back of router all goes well. they can get into router and i can fly around on internet. Dear Friends,

I am encountering strange issue while connecting my laptop to my home wifi router. I have 4 devices connected to router and working perfectly, but my Dell laptop suddenly stopped connecting to internet. It seems to be connected to router, but says No Internet Access. This is new issue, since it was working fine along with other 4 devices in the past.

Tried doing some basic steps, like - Removing the devices from Network Center and adding again, Reset the Router, ipconfig /renew ipconfig /release..but nothing works.

The funny thing is when I do a USB/Wifi Hotspot Tethering using same wifi with my Android phone, the Dell laptop connects to internet.

So, Its clear that Wifi Router is Good, Internet is Good, Laptop Network Card is also good, but something else is wrong. Please help.

Hi,
I have a Dell XPS 13" for the last year and a half.
I changed the password for my router after which my Dell XPS is not able to connect to the internet. The laptop does connect to the router (status states - Secured, Connected) however it does not connect to the internet.
I can connect to the internet via the same router on multiple devices (ipad, iphone, android phone, macs and another Lenovo Windows machine)
I am bamboozled as to why this Dell XPS is not able to connect.
Checking the properties of the device (via the Device Manager) says the Device is working properly. The network adapter is a Dell Wireless 1820A.802.11ac.
I tried to uninstall and re-install the driver and still don't see a difference.
Appreciate any assistance.
The Dell website (for Drivers and downloads is also friendly). I can't easily check what the latest driver is.
Searching for wireless for my Dell XPS
returns only one result  and the installation of that is not successful either.

A:Wifi connecting to my router however it does not connect to the internet

When you stated you changed the password on the Router, I thought you meant the one for the Admin of the Router.  I suppose you mean the WPA2 security password for the network..
I assume you have looked at the available networks and picked the one you use and check it properties for Public/Private and security settings?
If the wireless icon is showing a yellow triangle it may be related to DNS.  You might check the IP Settings on the above reference page to make sure you have correct IP addresses listed.

If you had McAfee you will want to run it's special uninstaller tool.

McAfee Removal Tool - McAfee Uninstaller

A few problems I noticed at that you have 2 Msoft Virtual WiFi mini port adaptors enabled, you should disable both of them as they aren't used unless you set up a hosted wireless network.

Another possible problem is that you seem to have a default gateway showing up where the DNS servers should be.

Is there secondary router in this network or did you type the default gateway into the DNS settings for some reason?

It may help to type the DNS servers into the routers settings then remove the entries from the IPv4 properties.

It also appears that you typed a DNS server into your WINS at the IPv4 properties, WINS isn't used much anymore so removing that entry might be wise.

I'm used to XP with independent connectoids. Looking at the properties on each connection, they appear to be correct.

Has anyone run into this on Vista?

I thought surely by disco'g the wifi on the Linksys Router it should just be a standard wired connection.

both routers are setup for DHCP. Is that what's confusing Vista?

weird. appreciate any help. I am so out of troubleshooting ideas.

I would firstly, double check security and you typed your passkey in right.. sounds dumb but has fixed many peoples errors. Also make sure you didn't block your MAC Adrees.

If still no go, turn off the router security then try to connect.

If no go try updating the drivers.

If still no go then we got issues.

Hi,

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
Questions:
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either 0.0.0.0 or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

hello,

i am having a problem with a new netgear AC1200 WIFI router Model R6120 and was hoping to get some help. I had a Linksys cicso WRT110 router that went bad last week. I went to Wal-Mart and bought the netgear AC1200. I hooked it up to a dell e6400 latitude running windows 7 pro and I cannot get it to connect to the internet using a DSL modem.

I can see the router when you click on the icon in the lower right corner that displays the wireless connections. I opened the network and sharing center and selected the "set up a new connection or network" and set up a home connection. I am not sure if I did this correctly.
when you open a IE browser to connect to the internet, the netgear routerlogin screen displays. it states that I did not have a connection to the internet and the netgear genie asked if it should create the connection. I responded yes and the genie started doing the work and then displayed something about a PPPoE connection and asked for my signon and password. I did not remember so I called the DSL provider and they gave it to me. I enter these credentials and the genie responded that the credentials were invalid. I contacted the netgear support and that guy was not much help. he tried some things and when it came to entering the username and password for the PPPoE connection and we received the invalid message, he said that it might be a bad router an that I should take it back and get a new one.

i have an existing wifi capable router CDR King LP-8186 originally we use this to network 3 computers (1 Laptop and 2 Desktop) we use wired network and we have no problem until i purchased the Wireless Broadband (USB Dongle) in which i am using to connect to the internet.

The Wireless Broadband is having a DNS error if i am wired to LP-8186 and i can't browse the internet but if i unplug the wire it can connect.

Can anyone please help me to solve this problem. I Just want to use the Wireless Broadband (USB Dongle) to have an internet connection while am also wired to CDR King LP-8186 router (without buying new router that can accomodate both)

Laptop - Win7 OS wifi capable
2 Desktop - Win XP SP3 no wifi just LAN Card

Thank you in advance.

Hi all - you might notice this is my first post here, so patience is appreciated
So here's my story...I have cable internet through Cox, renting a Netgear CG3000D gateway from them. Starting about a month after installation the internet started freezing over wifi. I say freezing because it would just suddenly stop, and the only way to get it to start coming through again is to reset wifi from the device. This happens with every device we use...smartphones, tablets, laptops, wii, and lately it's been at least a dozen times a day. I've spent hours on the phone with Cox, had their techs out to the house three times now, and still no solution. I'll admit that I'm no expert when it comes to this stuff, but I really don't appreciate them charging me $50 a pop to come to my house and ask if I tried resetting the modem, suggesting I just unplug it for a minute, tell me it's working fine after they hold a signal on their phone for 10 seconds...one spent a couple hours knocking around outside before coming back in to say he ran all new cables, drilled holes through my house to move the modem to a better spot, and everything should be fine. It's not.
Anyway...after hours of research online I'm convinced the problem is somewhere in the modem's settings, or just a faulty modem. I've lost hope in getting any help from Cox, so am here hoping that someone with some real knowledge can help me. There are no issues with the wifi signal it... Read more

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

Quick Specs-
i-ball baton 150m router
my home pc with win xp sp2
Lenovo notebook with Windows 7 ultimate

Okay.....I am simply trying to connect my Win7 notebook to the wireless router, but i JUST don't know which network settings are misconfigured and i have tried everything and anything to figure this out but i fail to do so.
The laptop connects but with a persistent messge "no internet access". I am sure i entered the right passkey and enabled the wifi on router configuration page(192.168.1.1 from pc).
My notebook's wifi and ethernet adapter are both set on "Obtain an IP add automatically" and "obtain DNS server automatically". The lan card on pc with win xp is also configured the same way.
I tried declaring the ip and subnetmask explicitly on wlan adapter but it still fails to connect. I don't know...the prblm is in router's configuration or adapter settings or both could be misconfigured?
I tried several methods multiple times but i am so frustrated...none of them is working.
Please help me out....

I just got a Lenovo & had a bit of an issue getting it on the net. I has to go to my ISP setup & unhide myself for the lenovo to connect. Then when I hid myself the connection at next boot was gone.

Can't remember exactly what I did but it was something to do with the ISP settings.

Will check it out now.

Hi Could you please tell me if this is possible:
My computer is connected to a wireless network. Can I hook up my D-link (DIR-412) to my computer and use the internet from the computer to output another wireless area?

Thanks sounds complicated.

Where you live is your setup like this?

#1
Internet
Modem
WiFi Router

or

#2
Internet
Modem with built-in WiFi Router

If you want extend the WiFi you would get WiFi Access Point. Or you can take a WiFi Router and disable NAT, SPI, DCHP, then you create a static IP address. 192.168.x.50

Hello:I've been having an issue with my Dell XPS Desktop (Intel Ethernet Connection I219-V Ethernet card).
When I connect this server to my router by an ethernet cable, all other other computers connected (Hardwired or Wifi connected) disconnect themselves from the internet. I get the same response when I connect to the Wireless Wifi as well.
It happens only with this Desktop running Windows 10.
I was told to change the DNS address to the OPENDNS Addresses - I tried and I had no luck. I do not have the Ethernet card or the Desktop in powersave mode. They do not go to sleep when idle.
Can someone please make any suggestions. Any input from your end would be very much appreciated.

Hello, I am a bit of a hard time with 2 routers on one network and unfortunately as things stand now they both have to be there. So I just got ADSL and the only modem option available to me was one with a 4-port wired router, I hooked that up into my existing network of about 9 computers (5 laptops and 4 desktops) which is connected by another 4-port WiFi router.

I started out with my only goal of hooking 3 of these computers to the internet after I got the DSL by some MAC filtering configured in the WiFi router. But, having the DSL modem/router has created another issue. I am using 2 separate IP gateways for both the routers which are in the same subset, I can connect to both of them from all my machines. The problem is I don't have any control over which computer connects to what router. I am trying to avoid setting each PC up with a static IP that needs internet access.

Here is my setup in more detail. My ADSL router is 192.168.1.254 and my WiFi router is 192.168.1.111 and both have the subnet 255.255.255.0. My ADSL connection has dynamic IP and the modem/router is connected into a LAN port on the WiFi router. I have tried disabling DHCP on the modem/router and changed my WiFi router IP to that of the modem (which was counter productive) to no avail. Someone mentioned MAC address cloning but I am not sure if it will work in this setup. Since I configured this I am seeing quite a few IP conflicts, which are probably my fault as I didn't check when I was setting... Read more

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

I may be misunderstanding you but if you're getting WiFi out of your broadband appliance already, you don't need a router. If you do want to use a WiFi router, you're not going to be using the WiFi signal from the broadband appliance.

Hello one and all,
I am sincerely hoping someone can assist with my little networking problem as i'm tearing my hair out now..

Here at work we have a Vigor Modem/Router hosting our connection to the world. It was originally on DHCP & the 4 computers & 2 printers found their own IP addresses without problem.

We added a Linksys router via ethernet (to a lan port not the wan) in another area of the yard. This was fine also on DHCP and connecting wirelessly from a laptop or mobile phone was a doddle.

Then our oh so wonderful IT geek decided to put the Vigor on a Static IP along with all the computers connected to it. This has some how cut off the wifi capability of the Linksys router now.

It is basically acting as a hub for two laptops and nothing else.

In simplistic terms with some detail what settings need changing on the Linksys if any?

The Vigors internal IP is 192.168.1.1
Linksys is 192.168.1.4
both on subnet 255.255.255.0

I have been advised to set the Linksys to a static IP on the Internet Connection option but what set of figures do i need for that??

Fingers crossed...

Stonkin

Hello,

I have a wireless adsl router in preparation for broadband arriving in our area soon (long story), and have some questions:

I have a laptop with wifi card and want to setup a home network with this, and my PC (plugged-in via LAN cable to the router).. laptop is XP, PC is Win2K
I can't seem to get this to work. one minute the PC can 'see' the laptop (in network neighbourhood) and then the other way round, but I can never access shared directories on either... is there a good guide somewhere to set this up?

Also, shouldn't I be able to use the router from the PC as if it were a wifi card?
i.e. on the laptop, once the wifi card is plugged in, it displays all wifi networks in the area and their signal strength etc.... how can I do this using the router/PC??

With the laptop I can connect to our neighbours wifi router and use their bradband connection, but I want to do the same from the PC.. is that possible?

Thanks in advance all..

(P.S. router is a D-Link DSL-604+)

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

Hi there

If you've a spare / old router which you can set up as a wifi bridge and connect a bit of LAN cable from Laptop into the Bridge router you'll generally get FAR better performance from even a cheap router.

Logic behind this is that most Wifi adapters are half duplex whereas a router is full duplex and throughput will be significantly better.

Another advantage is that you can still use 5 GHZ band even if your PC or whatever only can handle 2.4 GHZ wifi.

If your router doesn't have bridging facilities you can often do it by a firmware upgrade --for most routers try this :

www.dd-wrt.com | Unleash Your Router

Note --this is the Bridging router --not your main one that you use to connect to your ISP with --don't want to cause people to have inoperable boxes !!!!!.

I've found using a Router as a bridge far better than having to have loads of LAN cable all round the house --and also antennae in wifi routers are hugely better than most built in Wifi cards so you can in a lot of cases avoid extra slowdown caused by wifi extenders.

In my "man shed" -- a good 100 metres from the main house - could just about get 8 Mib/s on a very poor 2.4 GHZ wifi signal from the wifi card

Laptop now acceptable - still with 2,4 GHZ wifi but using "Bridged" method with an old EDIMAX wifi 4 port router. Around 70 Mib/s (still a lot slower by about 10X - I'm getting nearly 1Gb/s download in main house on 5 GHZ wifi --ISL has excellent Internet !!!... Read more

Hello,

Short story even shorter, there was a semi-power outage this morning (lights were very dim but power wasn't totally off), and when the power came back on my router stopped working. Here's what I know:

-The WLAN LED is no longer lit so there's no wireless. That orange CiscoSystems button is no longer glowing orange either if that means much.

-For some odd reason a wired connection through any of the ethernet ports on the router no longer works either, though the LED's still light up when connected, along with the internet LED.

-The modem works fine, I'm connected to the internet directly from the modem right now.

-I've tried to reset the router, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

-I've tried to access the router config settings, and the page doesn't load.

-I've tried to look up the routers ip address through the command prompt but when I enter the command "ipconfig" when I'm wired through the router I always get the response something along the lines of "media disconnected". When I try the command when connected directly to the modem the default gateway ip address comes up as '68.43.36.1'. This doesn't work either.
I've been searching the web for solutions for hours and I can't find one. This is actually the first time I've ever had to post a thread asking for help and I've experienced a slew of computer problems over the years, lol.
