When I try installing any program I the get message at the end of the installation -Error 1001.InstallUtilLib.dll:Unknown.error. As an example, adobe reader, MS office. Any ideas?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and see if that helps

Hello; while there is an InstallUtilLib.dll and an InstallUtil.exe, there is not, that I can find, an InstallUtilLib.exe.
Read other 19 answersI was trying to install Windows Office Enterprise 2007 when I got this error message and since then I've noticed it on most all attempts to install anything or, to my horror, attempts to uninstall programs. I try to uninstall something and it will get to a certain point and then roll back then give that error message.
How can I fix this???

Hello everyone. I had just set my laptop to go to sleep (closed lid), and when I came back about 10 minutes later, it was turned off. When I turned it back on a BSOD error report had shown up.
I have attached the file that the BSOD guide said, but when entering "Perfmon / report", it said "The parameter is incorrect".
I have also uploaded a .txt file with the info that Event Viewer gave me.

I am trying to download driver detective and when it is installing a little window pops up and says, Error 1001 InstalUtilLib.dll: unknown error.
this window pops up twice, the only option there is is to hit OK. you have to hit this screen twice. After those two pop op screens it pops up with another screen that says, Error:-1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for moreinformation.
i have a registered RegCure and ive ran that several times to try to fix this problem. ive scaned with macafee. i dont know what to do. can you help me?heeeeeeeelp!
Hello. I recently upgraded to Win7 and have been dogged by this crash. It will usually happen while playing games, but some games it doesn't happen at all. For instance, I just finished playing Metro 2033 with no problems what so ever, but when I started playing some old school Pirates, the system crashed after just a few minutes. Any thoughts on this?
Can anyone help with this? I'm a stranger to dump files.

Did a low-level format of the HDD before installing the O/S and drivers. Everything seemed fine till I turned it on this morning. I left the computer idle for a few minutes and came back to it recovering from a BSOD.
As for the report I am running MSE for virus protection. I am also managing Windows Update myself.
I've followed the instructions for BSOD's as per forum rules and have attached a copy of the report as a zip file.

Unable to edit query SQL when there is a where clause but no group by without getting the -1001 error.
Example: This query is fine.
SELECT DISTINCT BB1.StudentID, Table43.Booking_date, Table43.Session
FROM BB1 INNER JOIN Table43 ON BB1.StudentID = Table43.StudentID
WHERE (((Table43.Session)="230"));
But if I simply enter the SQL editor (and don't even make a change), I can not save it without the Reserved -1001 error popup even if it was already saved as is earlier. Apparently it needs notation like
SELECT DISTINCT [BB1].[StudentID], [Table43].[Booking_date], [Table43].[Session]
FROM BB1 INNER JOIN Table43 ON [BB1].[StudentID] = [Table43].[StudentID]
WHERE ((([Table43].[Session])="230"));
in order to be accepted. In particular the [] around the field before the FROM
SELECT DISTINCT [BB1].[StudentID], [Table43].[Booking_date], [Table43].Session
FROM BB1 INNER JOIN [Table43] ON BB1.[StudentID] = Table43.[StudentID]
WHERE ((([Table43].[Session])="230"));
is no good, but
SELECT DISTINCT [BB1].[StudentID], [Table43].[Booking_date], [Table43].[Session]
FROM BB1 INNER JOIN [Table43] ON BB1.[StudentID] = Table43.[StudentID]
WHERE ((([Table43].[Session])="230"));
will work.
Hello BleepingComputer, I am having a difficult time tracking down the cause of the failure of a program to re-install. the program is Wikitup dictionary. Previously, I have had problems with this program in the form of it not starting correctly; it uninstalls only with
difficulty. The problem now, however, is different. I am now receiving the following error message: Error 1001-On/AfterInstall event
handler of wikilon.installerHelper-value cannot be null> Parameter name: xml. I thought that the problem may be with Windows installer but I have been able to install other programs without any problems. The announcement of "value cannot be null" seems as though something
was changed somewhere; if it was, it was not by me as I would not know a line of computer code if it was in front of me. I've tried a restore point, tried retrieving the app from my back-up, tried downloading it from other (third-party) sites all to no avail. This program
works very well when it works and I consider it one of the best at what it does so giving up on it is not worth considering. I have had to
perform a complete system restore (wipe) of my computer in times past, and when I re-installed this app it always operates properly; it's
only when I have had to un-install and re-install it that this problem occurs. It's as though the program leaves some sort of marker on
my machine after an un-install that gets in the way of it's re-installation. Note-I have thought of ... Read more

Not having much faith in finding the answer to this, since quite a few people have reported this. I've seen about a dozen threads, some having no suggestions, others have suggestions, but none of them have worked for us. We have a few Zbooks, Windows 7 Profesional, and we cannot get Disk Security to install. Gives error 1001. Disabled AntiVirus. Booted into safe mode. Uninstalled any conflicting HP software, still no go. Spent two hours on chat with HP yesterday, tech unisntalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled, etc over and over. I finally gave up as I was sick of having to keep logging back in after each reboot. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi all and thanks for your help in advance. This problem is driving me nuts. Did a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on a Packardbell Easynote TE69, all was running fine for a while but then on shutdown/restart I would get a hang that would last for 5 minutes or so. When the system was turned back on I would occasionally see a BSOD flash up, every time after the hang I would get the "Your system has recovered from an unexpected shutdown message" with error code 0x0000009f. Googling has turned up little. I have found the same error codes in event viewer in relation to Bugcheck under event ID 1001. Driver Power State Failure pops up loads when searching and so does updating my Wi-fi driver which I have done but no change. The only other symptom is that my usb mouse only works intermittently, I have tried several new ones, but the problem remains. I have attached my minidump file. Any help would be awesome. Thank you.

Read other 7 answersHi all,
I recieved my new notebook clevo170hm yesterday. The laptop was working fine for 2 days, but today it started behaving weirdly when I tried connecting it to the LAN internet and it said "no network access" and "unidentified network". I remembering installing a windows update and after a reboot this error came up, before the update things were good . Here's the event viewer error description:
Code:
Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x0090F5C1E007. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
Apart from that I tried connecting to my wifi network, still gave me the same error " unidentified network". Here is the cmd command result for "ipconfig/all"
Code:

Read other 1 answersHi, a little background: I updated to Malwarebytes 2.0 premium on Sunday and on its first scan it found pum.hijack.start menu for a user in s-1-5-21 . . .. -1001. I have never been redirected, and my computer is a few years old so I know that the slowness might just be the age and the kaspersky and malwarebytes pro running together, but I was worried so i had some people look at it. I go to school right now and can't afford to pay for a professional so the IT guys there did a few scans and ran a few programs to clean any infections(you'll see there are a few left on my computer, not sure if I should get rid of them or not). Told me that they think I am fine, but because they left the programs on there, and the fact I'm OCD (admitted fault), I decided to see if I can make the PC more secure.
Forward to today: I found the same user in permissions on a few folders as "unknown user" with the name s-1-5-21 . . . 1001. I have put a picture of what I am talking about as an attachment. Anyway here is my DDS logs, I am copying both the dds.txt and the attach.txt. If you need me to run any other please let me know. Thanks for any help you can give. This is my only PC and finals are coming in about 3 weeks so hope it is ok.

I have configured a server with Windows Small Business Server 2003. I have set it up to run using a workgroup and not domain. Now periodically the server shutsdown on its own listing the above mentioned Event ID which indicate that ;
"this computer must be configured as a domain controller"
Microsoft's description states that this is the cause of the servers operating system integrated setup was not complete. This is the only server on the network and otherwise the network itself has been running fine outside of the periodic shutdowns.
My question is how can this be done now after the fact and what dtepsd must be taken?
Thank you for any help you can provide.

Let me start with analysis of this error.
http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php
If you are getting this error when trying to reinstall from your XP cd, then it sounds like you have a loose damaged or incorrect cable to either your cdrom or hard drive. I suggest replacing them both with quality 80 wire 40 pin IDE cables. It can also be caused by incorrect configuration if you have RAID or SATA drives.
Finally you may want to try with just one stick of RAM installed. If you have more than one now; you should try each in the slot nearest the processor all by itself until you rule out one of them being bad (If it works with one stick and not the other, you know the other is bad).
There is more information on possible causes of this error at ahuma ; but my first suspicion on seeing the image checksum mismatch is that the file in question has been replaced with something else, a trojan or virus.

Hello ,
what you need to do is erase the harddrive then do the reinstall , you can get a free program that you can create a bootable cd to do this with from here
(http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dariks_Boo...uke_d4596.html)
or you can download the tools to do this from the manufacturer of the harddrive
either way you will have to make the bootable cd
make sur you read the instruction on the way to use the program
then start your system then put in the cd / reboot to load the cd and then erase your drive
depending on the size of your dive this can take from 1 to 5 hrs
this will write the drive to zero's and make it as if it never had software install on it ( like new from the factory)

I was given an HP Compaq Presario C500 that was headed for the garbage because it would not connect to the internet. After running several scans ESET online scanner came up clean. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials and installed SP1, and can't get it to install SP2. I keep getting error code 80070017 / Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
I would prefer to reformat but Recovery Manager restarts back into Windows and I have no disks.
Can provide a long list of what has been done if needed including WU Modules (Normal Mode) and WU Components fixes. Permissions point in every which way but the correct way!
Any help would be much appreciated!

Well I built this computer in september of 2011 everything was running great no problems at all until today. I left it on and went to the store came back and BSOD. My computer restarted before I could write down any information "Error code" system restore said it was a "unknown error" which terminated my system. My Computer is running fine but I would like to make sure nothing is wrong. I'm thinking it may be my mother board because one of the SATA slots is broken and I had to switch to another one.
System specs
Cpu: Core i7 2600k
OS: windows vista home premuim 64 bit
Motherboard: Asrock p67 extreme4
Memory: 4 gb Corsair vengence "will increase to 8+ as well"
Harddrive: 1TB
Graphics card: 8600GT "will upgrade when BSOD is solved"
If you need anymore information I have the app on my phone and should be able to response quickly. The resource and Performance monitor file says I have no Anti-virus program but I do.... Also says the only thing that failed was system service checks - abnormally terminated service check
Here is the Full resourse and performance file

Have you carefully checked the incoming and outgoing server addresses? In addition to having that correctly entered, check for any typos-a comma (,) instead of a dot (.). Is everything spelled correctly? (I once had an Outlook Express issue and after an hour of looking over the settings saw my mistake, I'd entered ,net instead of .net)
If you are trying to use Outlook with your internet providers mail, go to your providers website. Look for help sections, faq's, etc. You most likely will find the correct settings there.
My laptop started acting crazy about 3 days ago, I ran root-killer on it and than ran avast and commando and cleaned up computer. Now it was opening and started to run great, now it did a blue-screen on me rebooted and looks good runs good just wont get online even thou connected to internet and keeps showing this little box saying (WMPNetwk.exe= system error + unknown hard error). Also it will not let me apply my firewall. Please someone help.

Ok, so I have another odd computer question. On my wife's computer, she is having trouble getting to one website she uses for her business – Vista Print (www.vistaprint.com). When she uses any of the internet browsers (Chrome, IE or FF), they all tell her the sites unavailable and we get a weird error which is a 101 network unavailable error as follows:
Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown Error
So here is the odd part – I can access this webpage from my laptop using the same router connected to the same modem off of the same ISP provider. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome, but this didn’t change anything. I can’t find any viruses or spyware on her comp, and all other websites work fine. Any ideas on how I fix this?
Current system where we are experience the issue is running XP SP3, 2.4 Gig Intel Dual Core Processor, 3 Gig Ram.
Thanks for your help!
Click on Start > Run > type CMD
In the Command Prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns

Here's my problem: my laptop is connected to the internet, but any browser I use results in that error message above.
I have two messenger programs on my system: AIM and Yahoo Messenger. AIM can connect to the internet and interact with other people...Yahoo Messenger cannot connect.
I have tried searching online for hours with about these two problems, but nothing feasible turns up, so I'm really hoping that I can resolve the problem here.
Nevermind, I'm marking it solved. Performed system recovery and all problems are gone now. Thanks very much for the no replies.

how to fixed ?!?!
I just starting getting the title error everytime I try send email to any address.
Task 'pop.earthlink.net - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC69) : 'Unknown Error 0x800CCC69'
I've seen similar errors posted but no answers on what to do.
Check your SMTP settings and make sure you are using SMTP Authentication (not SSL), and the SMTP Authentication is set to use the same settings as the incoming (POP3) server.
For the POP3 settings, make sure that you are using your entire email address for the username (ie. "[email protected]" - not just "davdow")
Hello,
I don't know if my computer is infected with something or not, but all of a sudden I get the above error:
Error 101 or 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.
I've tried Google Chrome and IE8, with Chrome the error is usually all I get. With IE8 sometimes the site will partially load then stop. I read somewhere else that it might be Maleware, so I downloaded the program MalwareBytes and ran it, it found NOTHING.
The same thing happens on both my laptop (wireless, Vista Ultimate) and my desktop using Windows XP!?
I have no idea what to try next and certainly don't want to mess with making changes that may only worsen my problems!
If anyone has had this and FIXED it.. please share info.
Thank you,

This error occurs in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, only when trying to log in to wbsites such as Facebook and YouTube.
Maybe a SSL issue? Or Vista issue?
Enountered a BSOD that said something along the lines of "Unknown Hard Error" with the code in the title followed by the path: \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll
It then said something about dumping physical memory to disk. I encountered this BSOD after I purposely powered down my machine and it had been turned off for a couple of hours.
All help is greatly appreciated.
p.s. I encountered an unhandled exception error when trying to run the SF diagnostic tool so I hope it completed sufficiently.

i know that file ci.dll is corrupted from my system32 and needs to fix it. But, how can I fix it? i cant log on to my windows.
please help me..what must I do? All answer is appreciated
This isn't a commonly recognized BSOD error code (here's a table of all that I know: BSOD Index )
Can you get into Safe Mode? If so, first backup your stuff.
Since you can't do a repair install in Safe Mode, you'll have to wipe the system and reinstall Windows.
You may also want to try these free diagnostics:
Quote:
I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests. They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:
Quote:
H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.
Also, please run one of these free, independent online malware scans to ensure that your current protection hasn't been compromised: Free Online AntiMalware Resources (read the details at the link). There are links to bootable antivirus disks on this page also.
Three attempts were made to install Win-10 in a Win-7 system which resulted in automatic bounce back into Win-7. I've updated all drivers in Zt-Systems Core-I7 machine. Also perhaps relevant is that I can't update Win-7. It just endlessly
searches but never finds updates to install.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
