Laptop (Precision 1350 Workstation) Plugged in not Charging after using it with dell docking station (dell e port plus usb 3.0 replicatior)

Q: Laptop (Precision 1350 Workstation) Plugged in not Charging after using it with dell docking station (dell e port plus usb 3.0 replicatior)

Hello so my laptop (Precision 1350 Workstation) with windows 7 which i bought in September 2016 stopped charging after I used it with my docking station . It worked for a week or two prior to this and then I started getting a notification every time I put the laptop on the docking station that said "ac power adapter not recognized , use adapter of 65 watts or above" but the adapter was 130 watts. Even when the laptop was taken off the docking station and the ac adapter was just plugged into the wall it still won't charge at all. I made sure the bios was updated 1.11.4 and even checked for driver to update and ran the online diagnostics there was no problems but it still won't charge. A tech came out last Wednesday and replaced the motherboard and this fixed the problem for about a day but then when I put it back on the docking station the same problem occurred and it still won't charge. I even tried it on a different docking station but the same make and model as mine and the problem persists. Does anyone know what is wrong? The phone tecnicians and the technicians don't seem to know what to do

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I joined Dell Communities very recently after buying myself the Dell Precision 7510 laptop. It's a great product so far, but I want better. I want more ports. A docking station to go with it is the obvious solution.
What is the best docking station compatible with the Dell Precision 7510 laptop??? My specific needs/setup:
- 2 external screens (D-sub / HDMI connection, or for £50 more I can get display-port), possibly more screens in the future
- high-speed internet cable
- headphones/microphone
- USB sockets for mouse, keyboard, printer, scanner, external hard drives, etc.
I presume that the Advance E-port Replicator is the best/most suitable. I just want to be sure of this, because my laptop model (Precision 7510) is still very new, and not all information everywhere has been updated about compatibility. I don't want to make an expensive mistake. I'll be travelling and won't have the opportunity to "return" the products I buy.

A:Docking Station for Dell Precision 7510

Yes. I contacted Dell sales... and they told me that the Dell E-Port Plus II, is compatible with my Precision 7510. After written confirmation I went ahead and bought it from a UK supplier on Amazon for £100... but it came in dodgy packaging and wasn't quite working, and the adapter was the size of a brick (literaly). I returned that back to Amazon... and tried my luck with Amazon Germany. You can get the original product from them for about 140 euros, and it works perfectly. The link to the product:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A8ESOVA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00
(that's actually UK now that I check it... that's the one I bought and it's good)
Basically Dell hasn't updated it's information about compatability yet. The docking station is listed in the check-out for the Precision 7510, but doesn't specifically say it is compatible with that model. I've had other similar problems elsewhere too, like I want to instal LoJack on my laptop, but can't find any information on whether my laptop model supports something called "persistence technology" in the BIOS (which makes it impossible to uninstall LoJack even if you change hard drives).

So I am to receive a precision 5510 in the next couple days. I've already bought monitors and a wd15 dell dock. I am a bit confused as to how to hook up dual monitors given that there aren't two of the same port on the WD15 like there was on the E-dock I am currently using for my precision m4700.

At any rate my monitors have HDMI (2), and VGA (1) inputs. The WD 15 has one HDMI, One mini display port, and one VGA.

To run dual monitors I  am assuming I need to run one from the dock's HDMI port to one monitor's HDMI and one either from the dock's Mini display port (with an adapter to HDMI) tot he HDMI port on the other monitor? I supposed I could go VGA to VGA as well, but prefer HDMI.
IS this correct?

It looks like all the new Dell Latitude laptops are not compatible with the E-Port Replicator Docking Stations. Is there any solution to be able to still use them as a docking station on the new Latitudes such as using a usb port instead of the pins?

I have a new Dell Latitude E7470 laptop with the Pro3x Dock setup for dual monitors for  a user. The setup has been working great for several weeks. Starting last week the laptop began shutting down while docked, and after examining it, I discovered that the dock power supply is turning off? When plugged into the directly into a laptop however it works fine. Not sure if it is the dock or the power supply. I'm new to supporting Dell's, and was wondering if this is a common problem. By the way it is the big 130 watt power supply and not the smaller one that the goes with the laptop.

A:130 Watt Power Supply Dims then goes off when plugged into Dell Pro3x docking station

eagee,If the power supply is working on the laptop then, the problem is with the docking station. Contact Dell at 1-800-624-9896 and have it replaced if it is still under warranty,

I have just bought a Dell XPS 15 (9560) and a Dell WD15 docking station with 130W power brick (same wattage as the laptop's AC-adapter). When I only use the docking station to power the laptop the discrete graphics card (GTX 1050) does not seem to work. When I am in a game (eg. Starcraft 2), I get like 15 fps with the NVIDIA recommended settings. Then when I plug in the laptops's own power brick (while still in the game) I get an immediate four-fold increase in framerate. When I unplug the laptop's own power brick the framerate drops down to 15 fps again in a heartbeat. Furthermore, when I only power the laptop through the docking station, I cannot even find the discrete GPU in the list when I'm trying to run the Geekbench 4 compute benchmark (OpenCL). Only the integrated graphics shows up. When I plug in laptop's power brick I find GTX 1050 in the list.
I have run the Dell Command Update application and all my drivers and firmware are up to date.
Does anyone have any idea to what the problem could be?

My wife has an HP docking station that allows all the cables and such to be plugged in to that, instead of into the various outlets around the laptop. Sure is nice to be able to plug everything into one central location. However, her laptop was stolen. I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop and am wondering if it will work.

Anyone out there absolutely certain it would work? Obviously, unless I'm absolutely certain it won't fry my system I'm not going to try it.

Thanks.

A:Will HP docking station work with Dell laptop?

Unless for some amazing coincidence the connections on the back of the two computers are identical, a docking station for one manufacturer's computer won't work on another.

I am running XP on my Dell Laptop. When it is in the docking station, the CPU runs at 100%. I am running Norton and Spybot. I am unable to determine what is causing the issue. If I take the laptop out of the docking station or do not have the power cord plugged in, the laptop runs great. Please help me.

A:Dell Laptop runs at 100% when in docking station

Can you precisely identify the process hogging that CPU?

You could download and run the free Process Explorer. You'll be able to precisely identify the culprit. By right-clicking on the process showing high CPU and selecting Properties… > Threads tab, you'll be able to pinpoint the thread that's hogging CPU within the process. You'll need to slide the bar left of CSwitch Delta in order to see the CPU values.

Process Explorer doesn't require any installation. Simply run the executable file once downloaded. Then, configure the Process Explorer window to your liking. You can even replace the Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) by clicking on Options > Replace Task Manager. You'll get a lot more features and details than with the Task Manager.

To determine which Process might be hogging CPU, click on the little graphs located at the top right of the window. A new window with four graphs will open, the first one being CPU. Click inside the window and press the spacebar to freeze the display. This will make it easier to hover your mouse cursor over the CPU peaks in order to read which process(es) is/are creating them.

When the monitor is plugged in the docking station anything using that HDMI screen DOES NOT use the NVIDIA GPU, it uses the on-board Intel chip.
When connecting the monitor directly to the laptop all applications on the external monitor use the NVIDIA GPU (I have this as default in the NVIDIA control panel)

Please advise on how I can get the D3100 to work with the NVIDIA GPU.

Hello,
I recently purchased a Dell Precision M90 laptop, it is in great condition for second hand.  I love this line of laptops, they are very strong and metal.  I needed a robust system to load visualstudio and SQL server on, and run applications of that magnitude.  I bought 2 new Ram modules, 2gb each for it, it came with 2gb total, 2 1gb modules, I want to total it to 4gb, I read the specs and got PC-5300 667mhz, but when I turned the machine on, the three lights by the bluetooth light just kept blinking, it would not boot.  I put the original modules in and the machine works just fine.  So, I decided to buy the brand that it came with.  It came with samsung.  So I looked on ebay and got the 2gb equivalent to  the 1gb it came with, I got the : Samsung module: M470T5663QZ3-CE6: PC-5300S 667mhz.  My question is, is this the right Ram modules that will work on the Dell Precision M90 machine, if not please tell me which 2gb modules I need to purchase.  Thank you.

Hello,
I recently purchased a Dell Precision M90 in supper condition.  These machines are built like tanks. I always wanted one, but they were very expensive.  It came with 2 modules of 1gb memory modules PC2-5300 667MHZ, for a total of 2gb.  I want to increase the Ram to 4gb total.  I bought what I thought was the right Ram.  I bought 2 modules of 2gb PC2-5300 DDR2 667MHZ.  I placed the Ram into the machine, but when I turned on the machine, the three scroll indicators lights next to the bluetooth indicator light kept flashing.  As soon as I placed the original Ram in, it turned on.  So, I decided to purchase the same brand of memory that came with it.  It came with samsung, so I did some research and found the 2gb equivalent to the 1gb Samsung memory modules.  I bought 2 modules of 2gb Samsung  M470T5663QZ3-CE6 PC2-5300S 667MHZ  memory modules today on EBAY.  My question is, are those the correct RAM for the Dell Precision M90 Laptop.  If not, can you please tell me which are.  Thank you.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I've recently had a few problems with my Dell Inspiron Laptop. It is plugged in to the AC adapter, but when I check the battery status I get a message saying '4% available (plugged in, not charging)'. This means that I cannot work on my laptop unless it is plugged in. The battery light on my laptop flickers a dim blue colour. I also don't want to buy a new battery for it to not work in my laptop either.

It also seems to get really hot when it is plugged in, and occasionally it will switch off unexpectedly. I'm guessing the reason the battery won't charge may be something to do with the motherboard and over-heating.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?
Probably my own fault for buying a Dell...Haha!

Hi. I am not a computer tech, so pardon my lack of pc language. I have a Dell Studio, running Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit OS). I have a docking station that I plug into with a monitor, keyboard, etc. For the past few months, I have not used the docking station, but this past weekend, I plugged my laptop into the docking station. I got a request for some sort of update (sorry I don't remember what for, but think it had something to do with video/monitor maybe). I went through the motions, and I think the update failed to install. I rebooted the system, and it runs fine. The only problem I encounter is when I play Runescape online, my laptop provides no warnings, and it just shuts itself off after about 15 minutes of play time. I have tried using different internet browsers (Firefox and Google Chrome) and that does not seem to help. I unplugged the laptop, and played RS and I had no problems, so I feel that the issue is with the docking station or monitor. I have no idea how to proceed in attempting to fix this issue. Please help.

When the laptop is plugged into the docking station headphones won't work, regardless of whether I plug them into the laptop or the docking station.  This means that every time I want to make a Skype call, for example, I have to disconnect from the docking station and plug the headphones into the laptop.  Any one have any suggestions?

A:Latitude E5550 - headphones won't work when laptop is plugged into docking station

Is the headset being detected at all by the notebook when detected? Right click on the speaker icon on the task bar and choose playback devices, are the headphones listed? If they are listed click on it and then click the configure button to bring up speaker setup. Click the test button and do you get the test chimes via the headset?
If you did hear the test chimes then the headset is working fine.   Clicking cancel should return you back to sound properties. Make sure that headphone is still selected and then click the “Set Default” button. This should but the green “default” checkmark icon on the headphones now. Test to see if the headset is working correctly now.
If you continue to have problems please reply back with the model of docking station and headphones that are being used. Please also include if the headphones have an analog connection (headphone jack) or are USB. Please also include the version of Windows on the system.

Thanks

I have a Dell 530 Precision Workstation with 2 separate OS, Vista and XP on two different SCSI HDD. I use the BIOS to boot one or the other.
I have 1GB of RAM, 3 SCSI HDD, AGP video card, PCI RAID card for an external RAID box with 4 SATA 320GB HDD in a 0+1 config.
Over the past few days the computer keeps shutting off, but not completely off, the screen goes blank and the power light goes yellow, the diagnostic lights all go yellow too. This happens in both VISTA and XP and randomly, I can be searching the internet, email, etc.
I have removed a USB PCI controller, no change.
I removed all USB, no change.
I removed the external eSATA link, no change.
I have opened the case and looked and adjusted any type of possible cable that could be loose, with nothing out of the ordinary.
I have ran the Dell diagnostic CD and it came back saying the USB controller 3 was faulting, reason why I removed the USB PCI controller, as stated.
After removing the USB PCI controller the Dell diag CD shows no problems.
I am up in arms on what to do next. Since it is happening to two seperate HDD and two separate OS's I cant see it being a software problem at all. Most likely a hardware related issue.
Any and all help and information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Our laptop assets consist of Dell E series laptops. Most laptops (approx 50) have the standard dell docking port station.

As Dell change the design with each revision including the dock port style and position, does anyone know if Dell are introducing a new series anytime soon or in the near future? I don't want to have to spend ?200 on a dock only for the next laptop not to fit.
Of course there are the USB style docks which will work on any laptop, obvious downsides is to keep having to plug the AC charger in.
How do you guys manage this in your organisations, 50 x ?200 is a lot of money to spend every 5 years or so adding in the price of new laptops, screens and stands.

Hello All,
I work in a school district and we have a number of Dell Latitude 3350 laptops along with a Dell D1000 USB3.0 Dual-Video Docking Station. One of the docking stations has recently started having a strange issue with the USB ports seem to stop working. The video and LAN ports seem perfectly fine and continue to work. But the teacher will lose connectivity to their mouse, keyboard, and document camera.
I can disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to the laptop, but not even 15 minutes later the same issue comes back. I've reinstalled the drivers, and even replaced the entire unit (and it's USB cable) with a brand new one out of the box and the same issue still comes up.
Could this still be a software/driver issue? Or am I potentially looking at a bad USB port on the laptop?
Many thanks for any and all help. Have a great day!

A:Dell D1000 Docking Station

A bad USB port on the laptop seems unlikely if your video and LAN traffic are working correctly given that they're also flowing through your laptop's USB port.  You can certainly test another USB port on that laptop (assuming that system has more than one), although even that wouldn't be a conclusive test since all USB ports on a system are often wired to the same controller chip.  Do you have another laptop you can test with?  Otherwise, the best way to rule out drivers would probably be to get the latest version available directly from DisplayLink, which is the company that makes the chips that enable those docks to carry video and other traffic on a USB cable.  Head over to DisplayLink.com for those.  Good luck!

I’ve bought about 3 years ago, a Precision M3800 workstation (~2300 EUR). The first 15 months used it about 3 times a week. After 1 and half year, the fans started to be noisy. Called the help center they said it’s normal due to the heat – OK, I agreed. Since then, it started to do more and more noise. Called again, the center they said the guarantee is over, you must send it in for repair and it’s payable – I asked ‘Why?’, their answer: “it’s a problem with the ventilators.” How come? 6 months before it was OK, now it isn’t. Thereafter, I put it to rest because I got a new desktop workstation (from another vendor). About 6 months ago, I took it again out, and no noise. Now again for 2 month it started again to more noise than previously. Did a diagnostic (read somewhere on the Internet), get error code 2000-8008, apparently, a memory issue? I’m sorry to say, but your customer service is “zero”. Again, searched the Internet and found, that issue with the ventilators is known since already 3 + years! Why didn’t the help center say it straight away?

Hi there thanks for the answer i have few more question1 - I only have one cpu for now is there restriction how many graphic cards i can use with one cpu2- Can i populate other memory slots where cpu is not present or only where cpu is presentThanks so much for you time

Sorry for posting on new tread but forum is telling me that same question has been posted on my first post

A:DELL PRECISION WORKSTATION T7910

Hi piz001,
Graphics cards aren't reliant on the number of CPUs in the system so no restrictions. EDIT: The two PCI slots (CPU2_SLOT1 and CPU2_SLOT2) can only be used when the 2nd CPU is populated.
The memory slots are assigned to each CPU so any DIMMs added to the second CPUs slots will not be used.
Memory population guidelines can be found on page 60, here:

Internal Zip 250
80GB HDD

120GB (I am adding this HDD)

I bought another HDD for storage purposes and I have a little dilemma because there is a plastic divider inside the box that seperates the PCI slots and the HDD's so I cannot connect the cables from the PCI card to the HDD connectors.

The problem lies in the fact that I have so many internal devices that use up all the cable connectors. The primary IDE cables are set up from the factory to plug into the Primary HDD (Master plug) and the secondary connector is plugged into the internal ZIP drive.

Let me try to graphically show the connections:

Factory setup as follows:
Primary IDE Slot (on Motherboard) --> Primary HDD (Master connector on ribbon cable) --> Zip Drive (Slave connector on ribbon cable)

What I want to do:

Ultra ATA PCI controller card --> Primary HDD (Master Connector on ribbon cable) -->New 2nd HDD (Slave connector on ribbon cable)

Primary IDE Slot (on Motherboard) --> Zip Drive (using Master connector on ribbon cable)

There is that plastic divider that, I think, is meant for the front fan's efficiency so when the case is closed, the divider literally creates another compartment inside the case. Therefore, I cannot connect a ribbon cable from a PCI card to the HDD's that is on the other side of the divider.

The guy at CompUSA said that I cannot get a ribbon cable that has 3 connectors. That woul... Read more

I am trying to build the following setup:
1) Asus laptop (TUF gaming series FX504 with 1 hdmi port), Windows 10
1) 2 or 3 high resolution external monitors connected to laptop via a docking station
3) Multiple peripherals like keyboard, mouse, speakers etc.

I did a lot of research about docking stations to buy but I can't seem to find the one that I need. The things that I would like my docking stations to support are:
1) 2 or 3 external monitors
2) many usb ports
3) high performance

I am also not sure about the performance between docking stations that connect to the laptop via USB vs docking stations that connect directly to laptop ports, is there a performance difference? Am I confusing the port replicator with the docking station here?

I am also confused about the hdmi, vga and other graphical ports. My laptop has only 1 hdmi port so what's the appropriate docking station to buy and can I for example connect external monitors with graphical ports other than hdmi to the docking station and then connect the docking station to the laptop's hdmi or usb if it's a docking station that connects to the laptop via usb?

I would also like to just use the external monitors and not use the laptop display. Some people on the forums say that this can be done by changing the power settings - set "Choose what closing the lid does" to not sleep or shut down the laptop while the lid is closed and instead leave it running. Is this correct?

Hi, What is the model of your Dell docking station ? Many HP docking stations won't be compatible with HP Spectre x360 machines, I don't think your Dell would BUT I need to know what exactly is your Dell docking station. Regards.

Hi guys. Not sure if this should have gone in the hardware section, sorry if so. Heres the situation:

A friend is using a Dell E4300 laptop with th edock docking station.

Sometimes, not all the time, whiile docking the laptop, the power is shutting off. No idea why.

I checked the event viewer but saw no errors that would point towards shut downs.

i rebooted and disabled automatic restart so if it is caused by a blue screen ill be able to see any errors moving forward.

Googling has not been to helpful, hope some of you can help me out.

Thanks

Tenz

I purchased a Dell D3100 for my non-Dell laptop in 2016. Initially, I was able to connect two 24" LG tv/monitors to my laptop via HDMI. I'm not sure if there's an issue with a Windows 10 update (I have the latest DisplayLink drivers installed), but my laptop will now recognise the external hard drives attached to the dock via USB, but will not recognise the monitors attached or the dock itself.
Is there something I'm missing?
Any help would be immensely appreciated!
Cheers,
Andy

Firstly, I would like to apologize if I wrote something wrong, because the English language is not my strong point, but the Portuguese one.
It's been a few days since this happened, I was working normally on my computer and then I went to sleep, I hung up normally and went to bed. As soon as I woke up and decided to turn on my computer, I received the famous "blue screen" with the following error code: Fatal Process Died
When I try to repair the computer it tells me that it could not be repaired and that nothing has changed. When I try to go back to the previous version, it says it was not possible again and nothing was changed. When I also have to use any other option of the advanced options, ALL, EXACTLY ALL SAY THE SAME THING. I can not use repair by Image, I can not use a repair cd, I can not use a Windows 10 installation cd and format the computer, I can not format and delete all files or even keep. I do not get any use of the advanced options or anything, so please, I would like alternative and efficient solutions.

Hello guys, I am looking to upgrade the CPU on my Dell Precision Workstation 490. It is currently running 2 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz. My Bios is running firmware A03. I am not sure what is the fastest processor I can get for this WS. I was looking at the Intel Xeon x5365 3ghz quad-core. Is there anything faster than this that is compatible with this system? Thanks

A:Dell Precision Workstation 490 CPU upgrade question

You can't just pick any ole XEON from any series and toss it into your 490.  The S Spec and the Bios Microcode and the Socket and and and and count. The 490 uses Intel Xeon 5130 (Woodcrest) 771 LGA socket.  SL9RT, SLABS, SLAG9 S spec must match BOTH cpus.
ODT031 ,DR054, TM199,  TX883  / Chipset 5000X
Bios should be updated before CPU change.
CPU's should be Matched Sets where the S Spec is the same.
Then with the correct parts
two 2 GHz Dual Core Xeon 5130 processors,
two 3 GHz Dual Core Xeon 5160 processors

P/N: HR381 Assembly Chassis, G1, Precision Workstation, 490, PWA Integrated, ESMT

P/N: NN038 Processor 80556k, Xeon Woodcrest, 5140, LGA771, G0

Only a Specific motherboard revision (GU083?) BIOS A01? that allows the use of the 5300 series quad-core chips.
two 3 GHz Quad Core Xeon X5365 (Clovertown) processors
x5355 SL9YM  works in this board.
The support of dual quadcore CPUs depends on the chassis number of the ws490 and is only supported for a G1 chassis according to http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/425708-cpu-upgrade-list. The chassis number can be found using your service tag in Dell Product support - system overview - parts.
ASSEMBLY, CHASSIS, G1, PRECISION WORKSTATION, 490, PWA INTEGRATED
Also note that the SLAED X5365 is rated 120W TDP
