Correct mode for TP-Link access point?

Q: Correct mode for TP-Link access point?

Hi,

My home network consists of 8 PCs, a PVR, an IP Camera, a PS3, a Wii and a network printer. My sons also have iPods they want to connect wirelessly.

My internet connection is cable which connects to a Netgear WNR3500 wireless gigabit router. This is cabled to a DLink 1016D 16 port gigabit switch.

Wireless is enabled on the WNR3500 and the iPods connect fine within a 25-30 foot radius of the router. The PS3 only got a 35-45% signal from 15 feet away so I cabled it. The other end of the house is 60 feet away.

At the other end of the house I have a PC and a PVR connected to a DLINK DGS1008D 8 port gigabit switch.

I purchased a TP-LINK TL-WA601G access point from a computer store who told me this would enable me to have the wireless devices to access the network from that end of the house.

But I can't get it working. I have the same SSID on both wireless routers. I have the TP-Link set to access point mode, and plugged into the switch. The WNR3500 is 192.168.1.250 and the TP-Link is 192.168.1.254. When I look at connected devices on the WNR3500 I do not see the TP-LINK.

Can someone please provide guidance as to how I extend my wireless capabilities to the far end of the house. Sorry for being a noob.

thanks

Preferred Solution: Correct mode for TP-Link access point?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Correct mode for TP-Link access point?

The simple answer is that the store guy gave me a bum steer.

The correct answer is that the TP-Link had to be configured as a repeater, and the MAC address of the WNR3500 added.

On the Netgear WNR3500 I had to enable the wireless repeater and set it as a repeater base station then add the MAC address of the TP-LINK.

Thanks for your assistance.

I've a Pirelli modem-router and I'd like to connect a D-Link dwl-2100ap as access point (operation mode= access point).

Details:
I connected 2100ap to Pirelli through an ethernet cable
2100ap has a dynamic ip provided by Pirelli's dhcp
Pirelli and D-Link 2100ap have same SSID, same encryption (wpa) and same pw but, probably, different channel (both on "auto channel scan").
With a notebook on the wan I can ping the 2100ap, I can access to its setting pages but if I go close to it (far away from Pirelli) I don't see any network with the notebook, in other words the D-Link doesn't work as access point.

Am I missing something ?

Hi guys, this is my first post so be gentle and talk slow please...

I've got the BT HH4 set up as the main router in my house but because it "has" to be plugged into the Master Socket its currently tucked away in the loft upstairs and the WiFi signal downstairs is really struggling because of it... So I decided to stick my neck out and install an access point downstairs as the house is cabled up! The one I've gone for is the 'TP-Link TL-WA901ND' which I checked was pretty good and would do the job for me, however before it's arrived I found out that I COULD have just used the old HH3 instead?!

So here's my question, does anyone know which device would be better as a Wireless Access Point downstairs..? Either the BT Home Hub 3 or the TP-Link TL-WA901ND (Advanced 300Mbps Wireless N Access Point).

Any help would be appreciated, I just want to see if it's worth me sending the TP Link back if the HH3 does a better job..!

Many thanks in advance =D

A:BT HH3 or TP-Link TL-WA901ND as Wireless Access Point??

i would suggest you try the HH3 and see how it works for you.

Its difficult to advise, because the construction of the house and layout has a lot to do with how the wireless signal performs , also the interference from other wireless signals , if there are a lot in the area , can impact the quality.

I have a Draytek Vigor 2820 ADSL Modem Router supplying my internet connection to my home network with both wired and wireless devices connected to it.

To extend the wireless range of my network I purchased a TP-Link TL-WA701ND.

I am using the TL-WA701ND in universal repeater mode, connected to my Draytek wirelessly and using the MAC address of the Draytek. I have also set my Draytek to operate in bridge mode using the MAC address of the
TL-WA701ND.

I can get internet services and email through the TL-WA701ND wirelessly without problem.

My problem is that I CANNOT access file sharing or iTunes home sharing services through the TL-WA701ND. I cannot see any of my computers connected to the draytek router. However I can see computers
connected to the TL-WA701ND from other computers connected to the Draytek Router.

I have tried switching the TL-WA701ND to Repeater mode with WDS activated on the Draytek router and I lose my network connection completely from the TL-WA701ND.

A wired option is not an option, as this is a set-up between two houses.

I have searched the internet and TP-Link site for support on this matter and have found nothing.

Any ideas.

Thanks, Max.

Hi

Hopefully quite a simple question, although I may be wrong! I have a spare router, a D-Link DSL-2640R that I would like to set up as a wireless access point. The reason is, I am currently residing in student accommodation, where the only source for internet access is wired ethernet ports in the bedroom walls.

Obviously the standard setup of the router wont allow me to broadcast this connection wirelessly, as it requires a phone line, however I have been told a "Wireless Access Point" would allow me to connect with various devices (Xbox 360, Laptop, iPhone etc.) without switching ethernet cables around all the time.

I have been trying to make do with ICS on my Windows laptop, however this doesn't seem to work with Xbox Live.

I have a good knowledge of computing just fall short when it comes to networking. Any help or guides would be great.

Thanks

Hello.

We are currently upgrading our wifi technology at work. As a result I have obtained an access point that was used in the network no longer needed. I would like to install this in my home in order to boost the signal and range.

The access point is a D-Link DWL-8610AP. I have no CD-ROM or manual however I have looked at a few videos online. The problem I have at the moment is that I cannot seem to get into the Access point user interface to make any changes.

I have connected the access point my laptop using an ethernet cable. There are 2 ports on the access point: a LAN port and a console port. I have tried both.
Next I have opened a browser and typed 192.168.0.50 into the address bar which I acquired from an online manual and video. However, this just returns a search list when I expected a window requesting the login details for the access point. I can't seem to get any further.

I have almost zero experience of networking so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

the network card is a broadcom 802.11 b/g wlan adapter and the tp-link is a TL-WA601G

i have changed channels
turned off encryption
reinstalled the network card
reset the tcp-ip stack
but cant get it working

yet it connected first time to my wimax router...strange
the weird thing is when i was trying to access the router before the reset it seemed to be using ip6 addressing...
yet in the router i cant see anything to do with ip6 addressing
the server in the office is dhcp server and the addresses are 192.168.10.x
as i said other laptops etc are working in the house

Hi,

i have setup a DIR600 router as a wireless access point and configured it to take IP address automatically by contacting the DHCP server.
when it reloaded, it takes my domain controllers (My DHCP server) ip address as its address while creating IP address conflict with the server. when i check the dhcp server, sometimes its hostname comes under the address leases and sometime not comming.

my server's host name goes as "server.xxxx.com" and access points host name is mention as "dir600.server.xxxx.com" in the DHCP leases section.

can anybody help me to avoid the router taking the server address? (server address has statically configured)

In access point mode? That's extremely strange. And, assuming that's possible, why?

That implies a problem with the server--somehow you have it configured to have its own address in the Dhcp server's address range.

A:TP-Link TL-WA701ND Access Point configuration problem

Generally speaking, there's a limited number of ways to access a router's configuration utility. Some will have an access port on the back of the router; but with the typical home-type router, you would utilize the web-browser method. Sometimes this is with a name like 'tp-linkrouterconfig' (or something to that effect), but more often than not it's via a specific IP address as you show above. Some routers will allow configuration through the wireless connection(s), but some specifically require you to be wired directly to the router.

Either way, you will have to be connected directly through that particular router, not through a different one. (eg - You shouldn't be able to access the TP-Link config utility while you're plugged into the other one across the way, or while accessing through another router's wireless connection)

Now, if you're trying to:

... configure this device online ...Click to expand...

Unless you're simply trying to state that you'd use your Web Browser to do so, then there's NO WAY you're going to configure your home router from outside the home network.

Hi guys and gals!
Im in abit of trouble trying to setup a wireless network. Part of the problem is that I am many miles away and I've never setup a wifi-netork involving more than one device, that device being a router.

I've attached a jpg which should explain the basics of the problem. This is what I've done so far:

I connected the TL-WA901ND to the router(a Thomson tg787) located in the house, this router couldn't be used simply because the SSID and its password is locked, and we sometimes have people renting the bottom floor and we would prefer a better SSID and a changable password for the network. The first TL-WA901ND(will call this one TL1(AP) from now on, the other being TL2(RP)) is set to operate as Access Point, having a different SSID and password for the network, and it works great. However, when I try to set the other one, TL2(RP) to repeater mode, with the TL1(AP) and that SSID/MAC as "target", it doesn't seem to work. I've tried using bot the repeater mode and the universal repeater mode but none of them seem to do the job.
Is is possible to repeat the signal of an access point or does it have to be a router?
The SSID and the WPAkey of the repeater is set to the same as the access point, is that correct?
The access point is not the one handing out IP-addresses, the router is still acting as the DHCP-server, is that correct?
Are there any other setups using these devices that could achieve the same thing?, using some k... Read more

Depends on the Repeater and Access Point. I didn't check the manual, but I would expect that two of the same device would play nice together.

The SSID and the WPAkey of the repeater is set to the same as the access point, is that correct?Click to expand...

To my surprise I learned recently that the Repeater (at least some of them) can broadcast a different SSID. But certainly you have to specify that of the Access Point in order to make the connection between them. I'd get it working w/o encryption first. In some cases you have to specify the MAC Address of the other device--again, I did not check the manual for your units.

The access point is not the one handing out IP-addresses, the router is still acting as the DHCP-server, is that correct?Click to expand...

Yes, definitely.

Guys, I am having a hard time configuring my Access point. I have a DSL Router connected to our telephone line and it works fine wirelessly, Yesterday I purchased TP LINK Router to configure as Access Point to extend wireless signal up to the second floor. Now, I am wondering, should I do some re-configuration on my DSL Router before configuring my TP Link Router? Guys, Please share your thoughts and if you have knowledge on how to configure my 2nd Router to my Wifi Networks that will help.
NOTE: I followed the user guide manual that came with my TP LINK router but it is no USE. I just need to know if should I reconfigure my 1st Router in order to communicate with my 2nd Router.

Thanks,

A:How To CONFIGURE TP LINK ROUTER as ACCESS POINT in an existing network

How are you connecting the two routers together?

An access point needs to have a static IP, and it needs to be outside of the DHCP range that your router is using. For example, if your router assigns IP addresses from 192.168.1.150 to 192.168.1.200, you need to have the access point IP address below 150 or above 200. I like to keep the access points close to the router, so I usually use 192.168.1.10 for the first access point.

What model router did you buy? TP Link makes a few, and knowing the exact model will help us help you.

I am running completely wireless now. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and about 5 computers connected to it wirelessly (G).

I have a printer that has a built in network card, and you can configure the IP address from the setup screen on the printer. (Xerox C2424)

I'm trying to link the printer up to the router, wirelessly. I have been told that you can use a USB Print Server, but that would not be necessary considering that I have a built-in network card already in the printer. I just purchased a DWL-G700AP D-Link Access Point to hook up to the printer, but I am unsure of how I should configure it. I am trying to link the printer wirelessly to the router, and sharing that to the people on my network.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

Hi,
Similarly to I'm having issues when WiFi is on, a few key differences though

I'm using BIOS 1.4.13
USB C is unstable
USB type A on the right hand side (the one with powershare) is unstable in USB 3 mode
Both USB type A ports are stable in USB 2 mode
the left hand side USB type A port is absolutely fine even in USB3 mode
It's particularly unstable if the wifi is in Access Point (hotspot) mode, even if I set the tx power very low (like 10dBm)

By "unstable" I mean that the USB 3 Realtek GbE found on the DA200 is going up and down all the time, same for the "plugable" USB3 GbE (ASIX AX88179).
Is there any solution to this problem?

ok i setup a mimo netgear router. all the settings are pretty much factor settings. but the range isn't good enough to reach one of the rooms in a huge house. so i bought the wpn802 access point because i know it has repeater mode. i spent 5 hours and could not get the damn thing to work. the closest i ever got was i was able to log into the router and under attached devices see the access point but no IP was being assigned to it. ive tried almost everything i can think of. the obvious: i made sure both units were on the same ip for instance router is 192.168.1.1 and the repeater is 192.168.1.231 or whatever and i also made sure both SSID matched. other than that there are not many other options in the access point you can change. does anyone have any experience with these things. all i want is for the access point to extend the range of the netgear mimo router.

Hi there

As previously specified you can't install using the vmware wizard -- or at least using the product key supplied by MS -- it's invalid -- use the number given by Vrosa in this thread.

however if you create the VM manually remember to set the Boot from BIOS the ist time and set the vm to boot from the virtual (or real ISO if you are using a physical DVD)

This will allow you to change to boot order of devices for the VM at boot.

(Change it back again afterwards or you'ii get the install screen again and again).

Search the hard drive for cooltool.dll. Most of the time the DLL files are in c:\windows\system32.

If its missing you can possibly take it off the original CD

I have a Dell laptop, Vista Home Premium SP1. Is it harmful to put the computer to sleep and "wake it up" 4-5 times per day? I'm not sure how much wear and tear this causes, compared with just leaving it on. Thanks, Larry

A:Sleep mode correct usage?

There's no harm in using it that way, and it's certainly better than leaving it running at full tilt all day long.

Hiyas. Run into a bit of a problem with Windows XP Professional. Two weeks ago, my computer wouldn't start Windows. I don't know exactly how that happened, but I did a virus warning two days before, but I used AVG three times over the three days after that to remove it. I unfortunately don't remember what virus it was. It would continually restart itself after the Windows loading screen (the one with the blue loading bar). The error I got was "insufficient virtual memory for this task". I was able to fix that by going into the Recovery console and replacing the ntdetect and ntldr files manually. This alone didn't solve the problem, however, I had to also copy the system, system32 and security folders fresh from the Windows XP Professional CD. I was able get Windows to start, but it seemed that my system had reverted to pre-SP2 Windows XP Professional.I tried running Windows Update, but it would never appear on-screen after I clicked it. I tried running it through IE, but I got the error "The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll". I have downloaded a copyof SHLWAPI.dl from File Gurus, but their copy is version 6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) and the current copy I have is version 6.0.2800.1106. I was wondering if it I replaced the current one (.1106) with the other one (.2180), is that going to cause further problems? I'm unable up to update to SP2 for some... Read more

Hi,

I have windows 8.1 and windows server 2008 on single HDD.
My HDD have 4 partitions and tried to create a new partition using disk management utility of windows.
When i SHRINK one of the partition and created a 5th partition, my basic disk got converted to dynamic with a warning message. But without releasing the consequences of it, i opted to proceed further.

Windows 8.1 works fine.

Now the problem is, i am able to log-in to windows server but nothing comes up on screen, it just remains blank and it displays an error message before and after entering log-in password "the procedure entry point RtlReleasePath could not be
located in the dynamic link library ntdll.dll"

I think that i have lost MBR information which was stored in another partition.

How can i recover that information without loosing my HDD data. Since to convert dynamic disk back to basic disk we have to delete all partitions. I don't want to format and re-install OS.

This question may not be what you think it is. I am trying to fix an intermittent issue in my home environment. The issue is I am having to use wireless. Our Xfinity Cable/WAP modem sits on the top floor of our house. I am located in the basement. The wireless signal I get most of the time is very good, and by very good i mean at least 15+ mb/s on speedtest.com.

I am taking the Cisco Network Academy classes and am familiar with network terminology and concepts. However, what I'm trying to do is take a router/WAP (using it downstairs where I'm located) and configure it to access our xfinity modem upstairs, so that I can plug in to it downstairs using a RJ-45. Is this possible?

Let me know what yall think. By the way the router/wap i would be using is a netgear model unknown at this moment but could easily find out.

Thanks,
Eric

A:Can you access a Cable moden via Wireless Access Point

As long as the two devices are on the same subnet (as they should be in normal circumstances) then it should work.

You may need to designate your wireless machine, in the router, as having access privileges.

At home I have cable high speed internet, an access point and 3 computers connected to access point. The access point have a IP address, XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. The 3 computers have static IP addresses as 192.168.0.30, 31 and 32.
How can I connect to any of these computers (lets say telnet to one of the Linux machine) from out side world?

A:Access a computer behind access point at home from outside world

You would need to set up port forwarding on your networking hardware from a specific port number on your public IP address to a specific port number on the Linux machine. Telnet typically uses port #23.

If your cable broadband service uses a dynamic IP address then you will need to subscribe to some dynamic DNS service so that people on the outside can connect to your network using its current public IP address.

EDIT: You need to check your ISP's usage policy to make sure they allow running any type of server on your account. If not permitted, they may block incoming connections on some port numbers.

Hi,

Since 2 days, my IE and Firefox became really slow. I can't send an email, the page still loading after 15 min. But when I download something, the speed is the usual. We have an Access application that holds employees' table. When new employee comes, the email stating the name of a new employee and the link to this Access app. being sent to a supervisor. When supervisor starts the app, it opens the list of all new employees for a supervisor to choose from.
What my boss wants is, that access will open a new employee record by itself, depending on the name from the email. In other words, he wants to open the specific record by the link from email.

Is it possible to do this?

I have had considerable help from Tech Support Guy and am continuing to recover from a reinstall of Windows XP (2002). I have things running right now (up to SP2) but lost some important "stuff". Upon searching my external drive I found two backup files that I made just before the crash and I would like to know how to access them properly. When double clicking I get the following message...
The backup utility cannot connect to the removable Storage service. This service is required for use of tape drives and other backup devices. Please exit and start the Removable Storage service using the System Services function of the Management Console.Click to expand...

I did not use a removable tape tape device I just used the external hard drive. I had seen this error before and figured I lost everything but would like to know if I can get at them after all. The files are .bkf and one is 152GB. I searched MS and found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907519 which suggests the following workaround (because the removable storage service is disabled after installing Update Rollup 2 for Win XP Media Center Edition 2005 {my system is 2002})...
Click Start, click Run, type Services.msc, and then click OK.
Locate the Removable Storage service in the Services console.
Double-click Removable Storage service. In the Startup type box, click Manual.
Click Apply, and then click OK. Click to expand...

I have to say that I'm concerned because of the workaround and my system is... Read more

I tried the recommendations for fixing this below:

Follow these steps to grant full permissions to the folder where the files are stored: 1. Right click on the folder on the external drive and click on
properties. 2. On the property window, click Security tab.
3. Now click on Edit and then click Add.
4. Now type everyone in the box and
click OK.

5. Then check Full control check box.

6. Click on Apply and then click OK.
You may also try the below mentioned steps:
1. Click on Start. 2. Go to Control Panel. 3. Select "SOUND". 4. Double click on speakers. 5. Click on advanced tab and then uncheck enable audio enhancements.

But then I received the error message that I don't have rights to edit and add.  Why would this be?  I am the administrator?

Thanks!

A:Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

More particularly, if I click a row in B, that row will be display on A and the user will be able to edit that data. The forms were designed by someone in MS Access 97. I converted it to MS Access 2003 format. Therefore, I have to link form A and form B. However, I couldn't find Link Master Fields and Link Child Fields in MS Access 2003!

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It really sounds like form A and subform B are both using the same table, and are not a Master/Child field link situation. But rather, form B (the subform) will have code in the "On Current" event that will find the current record on the form B within the form A, therefore allowing that record to be edited. Review your original post, I think you used the "B" one place where you meant to say "A". No matter what, you need to clear up with us out here if both form A and form B are using the same table.
