I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Was wondering if someone out there could assist me in figuring out why my Internet Explorer only allows me to go to specific sites...

The first one being the website of my ISP, and the second, a secure site (company webmail). This is the only 2 sites that I can assess. Every other website, I get a DNS server error.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Microsoft AntiSpyware. If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and IE 9. If I do a search on Google, IE will not allow me to click through on any links. Problem only happens on Google, not on other sites (Bing, Yahoo, CNN.com or any other site I've tried).

Firefox works fine but IE does not. The only workaround I've been able to make work is adding Google to my Trusted Sites in IE. But that's stopped working, too.

Any ideas for how to fix this?

A:Internet Explorer not allowing click-through on Google

Only https sites are affected by "Trusted Sites". Start by making IE your default browser.

I am using Internet Explorer 11 from Program Files folder which supposedly launches 64 bit applications. This Internet Explorer 11 settings from Tools Options of Custom Level and Advanced tabs Security features were if selected; Internet Explorer

doesn't loads fast enough even though all options favours fast loading with Advanced security features; WHY? this ultimately stops after all settings are set to default without single modification in Custom Settings or Advance Security features.
This coupled with Microsoft Edge's unpredictable website loading with frequent Network's internet connection disconnecting to the brink of unusability; nothing; even Microsoft Edge Reset won't resolve these scenarios.
And now Microsoft Edge DEV; with all above said problems and beta version errings uses 1.5 GB of 4G ISP full speed memory to send computer information to Microsoft within half day of 12 hrs. day, rest of day goes with crawling speed of ISP setted 64 Kbps
in short without internet connection; this happening on all days Microsoft Edge DEV use; now a days I use only Internet Explorer 11 64 bit strictly with Default Level & Advance Security features Resetted instead of selecting app... Read more

Dear Sirs,

My name is Clifford Griffin. I just happened on this site by accident.
I sure hope you can help me.

My operating system is Windows XP SP2.

I am currently running IE version 7. But you should know that I will
experience the Identical problem while running IE v6.0.2800... or IE

Since my IE does not work I am using Firefox to communicate with

Most of the time when I try to access the browser I get a blank
window with the following error pop-up.

"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Included in that message is a statement that says: "To see what data
this error report contains click here." Upon clicking here I see
the following error signature:

"AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.6000.16441 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2945 Offset: 00012a5b"

There is also an extremely lengthy and detailed report entitled "Error

as explained above.

Can you help me?

Please let me know what further information you need.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Clifford, welcome to TSF...

how long has the problem been present and have you tried a system restore to a date when all was well? Can you think of any downloads or any websites which were visited which may have triggered the problem?

Also, there is a chance of a malware infection so the following link may be helpful:

Ok internet explorer is not working niether firefox. About 2 weeks ago i went on my computer and an when i tried to go on any website it would not work. Seconds after, a firefox update starts but it does not do anything and the internet does not work.
-I have Norton But removed all Norton content from computer still did not do anything.
-before deleting Nortan Scanned for viruses no viruses were found
Safe mode WORKS, i figured out that by doing doing a system restore and going to a restore point will restore my computer and internet works everything is fine. BUT it is very annoying having to keep doing system restore because after i do system restore and turn off computer when i turn it back on its all over again the update and sites not working.

I know my internet works because with/without system restore internet games work perfectly fine.

Although keep doing system restore is really annoying it doesnt work anymore when i try 2 restore to a previouse point it loads and then says system restore incomplete there was no restore points found for that date although im certain there was because i used the same date like twice before. Gahh this is so frustrating my computer is like an old car reck. help is very appreciated!

I'm not sure if this is a Win7 issue or just the laptop. And this is my Dad's laptop so I'm sorry I can't shed more light on the matter, I'll be seeing him tomorrow to fix it.

This is a Dell Studio 1735 Laptop running Win7 Ultimate.

The family member who had it before him wiped the laptop, or at least deleted everything before giving it to him. The browsers were already installed so I'm guessing she just deleted everything she didn't need.

So I go to "Google.com" and both browsers say this site is untrusted and doesn't have a security certificate. The only site I can get to is finance.google.com. I am unable to add certificates too. Not sure what's going on. I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the browsers to see if it makes a difference. The laptop is running AVG anti-virus.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone!
Last night I installed Bitcomet (latest version). Well I'm done using it and I uninstalled it via programs and features. Then I rebooted. Now when I find a file on Internet explorer 7 (any kind of file really) that I want to save or open, nothing happens.

If I click on a file to download the usual Windows Prompt opens and asks me to Save/Open/Cancel and if I click Open or Save, nothing happens. This use to work fine before I installed BitComet.

I figured out the problem. When you install bit comment it ties itself to I.E. browser extension during the install. So it kinda becomes the download manager for I.E. So I need to figure out how to set this back to default since I uninstalled Bitcomet.
I set programs to default. I looked in file extensions and that looks normal. Crap this sucks!
Any ideas?

A:Internet Explorer Save/Open Function

You could try opening Internet Options in Control Panel. Click on the Programs tab and select Manage Add-Ons. It is possible that removing BitComet did not remove the reference within Internet Explorer.
Other than that may be worth checking your File Associations and make sure BitComet is not set as the default application for opening specific file extensions.

My IE history function stopped working quite a while ago when I was using
version 5.1. It has stayed broken through upgrades to IE 6.0 and to 6.0 SP1.
When I select the "history" icon I get a list starting with History and containing only the file "index.dat". The only other item in the history list is
"desktop.ini". I have scanned the registry and it is OK. Is there any way to fix this without reinstalling IE?

A:Internet Explorer history function broken

Try going to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs-
select IE 6 - click add/remove- select Repair IE.
You may have to reboot.
See if that helps.

Could use some help on how to allow a user to set their default browser permanently even with IE11 being set via Group Policy as the usual default.

For logistical reasons, we are still on IE11 instead of using Edge for our default browser - mostly because our software hasn't been 100% tested with Edge and to avoid overall confusion in having made the jump as a company to Windows 10 recently.

I successfully created a default configuration associations .xml file and it is pushing IE11 as the default.

However, knowing we have some users who would like to use a browser other than IE11 and let it be their default, we're trying to accommodate them while still enforcing the policy in place. Additionally, we don't want to 100% dissuade users from
utilizing Edge, so we haven't tried removing it from public visibility within the OS.  The users in question are local admins on their machines and should, in theory, be allowed that capability.

Any suggestions?

I posted this in the general security section and was told to run dds and repost here.

Recently I have had a crazy amount of website pop-ups/entire internet windows from sites like cafemom.com, nationalsurveyboard.com, shopwhiz.net, and junk like that asking me to take a survey or offering some kind of prize. It happens almost anytime and does not seem to be associated with any particular website, but it definitely happens when I'm on craigslist and another forum type site as well as etsy. I have tried to block some of these sites specifically, but end up just making my normal browsing much more difficult and not actually getting anything blocked.

I had a post on this site for some redirection help a couple of months ago and the scans I ran apparently did not show anything. It might have been user error with some spysweeper settings?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appeciated. Thanks.

First you can make sure your system is free of spyware/malware.
Follow these instructions please.

Scan your pc with one of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall. Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.

Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

After those Run the System File Checker

I AM able to ping websites and other computers on our network, and I AM able to acces the internet with Firefox. I've tried running each of the following from the command line without success:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset catalog
sfc /scannow

I'm just about stumped!

Okay so for a while I have been having multiple BSODs and in an attempt to fix the problem I've deleted a few programs including Google chrome. The reason is because without it even being opened it was saying it was crashing so yeah. Anyway after uninstalling chrome I wanted to reinstall it but IE wouldn't open at all. I turned on enable enhanced protected mode under advanced, after finding it on a forum and while IE now does open no matter what url I put in no content will show whatsoever. I've tried adding sites to compatability view but nothing works. I beg for help because the pc is only a few months from being bought new.

A:internet explorer 11 not opening any websites

Hi and welcome to Sevenforums,
First please use these instructions for the bsod,
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

I wouldn't download Chrome just yet,
To download some scanners to look for infections,
You can use safe mode with networking,
But again Do Not download Chrome,

Safe mode with networking,
Shut down your machine, Unplug-Hold the power button down for 30/45 seconds (Power Drain)
If using a laptop remove the battery then use the power drain,
Power up and Tap the F8 key continuously until you see a black page with white text,
Use the down arrow key to toggle to safe mode with networking/ hit the enter key.
Login as usual

Repeat the scans starting normally post the scan results,
Review Jacee?s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
Instant Savings App
Screen shot of the download button to use for Adwcleaner
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

I open up internet explorer and it defaults to the msn.com webpage, and I can do anything within that webpage - look at news, entertainment, games.. all the links on the webpage I can click and it will bring me to another webpage. However, if I type in an address like www.gmail.com, it will bring me to "internet explorer cannot display the webpage" I went to internet options in the control panel and reset all settings, and reloaded ie8 again, and it still is doing the same thing.

As a reminder, support for Windows XP will be ending on April 2014 (Next month). Once support ends, any PCs running Windows XP will no longer receive any new patch updates, security fixes or bug fixes from Microsoft.

It is recommended that you upgrade your PC to a modern and updated OS, such as Windows 7 or Windows 8.1

Hello,I'm infected with something that is redirecting me to websites that are advertisements. I'm using IE8 on XP SP3. I know for a fact it's doing it because the first time I was trying to type up this post I got redirected to the Video Professors' website and I had to start all over again.I tried running MSE, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and SUPERAntiSpyware, and none of them came up with anything. It's pretty frustrating.Anyway, per the rules, here are the RootRepeal and DDS logs. I have also attached the Attach.txt from the DDS script and a HijackThis log. I hadn't used Spybot for a 1yr or so. I recently installed and detected malware-bot. If you recall the hijack log I sent. You pointed out a issue with MacAfee installer in a temp folder. Well when I visit certain websites ex (lavasoft) my IE7 browser closes itself out. Few days prior my firewall/virus said I was not fully protected. So used registry cleaner by MacAfee, and that did the trick. My main issues is personal information being compromised , as a result of this type of malware detected. Could a remote user have change my security setting etc. Even with system restore, which I turned off, didn't fix the security issue until I cleaned the registry.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 7:06:49 PM, on 6/11/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0011)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXEC:\Program Files\Analog Devices\Core\smax4pnp.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\DLA\DLACTRLW.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exeC:&... A:Internet Explorer Clapses On Certain Websites

Hello Hawke and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. If System Restore is still turned off I would recommend turning it back on. There is no reason to leave it disabled. I think the alert from McAfee was simply because one of the numerous McAfee processes was not functioning normally.Let's do one other scan just to see if that shows anything. Download WinPFind3u.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.Note: You must be logged on to the system with an account that has Administrator privileges to run this program.Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.Under Additional Scans click the checkboxes in front of the following items to select them:
Reg - Security Settings
Do not change any other settings. Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.Let it run unhindered until it finishes. When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.Use the Add Reply button and Copy/Paste the information back here. I will review it when it comes in. If, after posting, the last line is not < End of Report > then the log is too big to fit into a single post and you will need to split it into multiple posts.Cheers.OT

A:Internet Explorer cannot access websites.

I would like to add to the above post please.

This has been an ongoing problem for 2/3 weeks. With the kind help of boopme we have tried to solve the problem with little success. My server sent a technician who suggested it might be problem with Microsoft. I had a reformat done, as you will see, a couple of days ago to no avail. Changing the browser does not make any difference.

The problem can suddenly go away leaving the computer working like new, only to reappear at any time. It can stop me moving from one section of a website to another and can affect logging into sites as well.

I hope the information provided is sufficient to ba able to resolve this extremely tiresome and inconvenient promlem.

Thanking you once again.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. It is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
Download the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment - (JRE) 6 Update 3.
Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3 allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
The page will refresh.
Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download Download SDFix from here and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the follow... Read more

I've never seen anything like this. Okay, here's the system rundown --- Running win 7 pro sp1 64 bit on a Dell xps 8000. Replaced hard drive one month ago, and I've used Seagate's diagnostic tool to check out hard drive, which didn't find any errors with the hard drive.

So, here's problem 1:
Computer was running great up until four days ago. It wouldn't wake up out of sleep properly. It would freeze. I would have to reboot to wake it up. It won't even let me LOG OFF correctly because when I go to log back on, I don't get the prompt to choose the user or enter my password. When I reboot --- that I can only do by shutting on and off the power, it's fine. The computer starts up fine in SAFE MODE, so I'm not detecting any issues there.

Problem 2:
Internet explorer 10 (got it with one of the updates two weeks ago) simply would HANG and not open. Even with I would click it once and open task manager to see what was happening, it showed multiple instances of explorer open. So, what I did was turn OFF Explorer 10 in the "turn windows features on or off" section. But when I when to turn them back on to see if it would reset, I not only lost the default windows icons from the start bar, Explorer refused to initialize when I tried to start it from "Programs" or from clicking the explorer.exe icon in both Programs (64 bit) and Programs (x86).

To this point I've done the full scan disk, and also run SCAN NOW. I also have anti malware software ... Read more

As a result of the verification, it is confirmed that it is not related to Adobe's Flash Player and is related to the function of Shockwave Flash Object installed in Windows 10 Internet Explorer 11.

Therefore, I would like to know whether it is possible to delete and reinstall the Shockwave Flash Object function.
And I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade or downgrade only the version of the Shockwave Flash Object (or any other related function) while leaving the version of Internet Explorer.

I can not end IE tasks and even after I end IE processes, it will show up again.

I just installed Windows XP Professional on a Western Digital Caviar Black hard drive that I bought this week and, for some reason, Internet Explorer will not save/remember the websites I have typed in to my browser after I restart my computer. I hope I am appropriately describing what I am referring to.

Usually, when I have a webpage open, I can click the little drop-down arrow on the right-side of my browser and a list of the last 15 (or so) websites that I have typed in to my browser will be displayed, and then I am able to click that website url and have be taking to that page. For example, right now, while I have this page open, when I click the little blue arrow on the right-side of my browser, there are 12 website urls being displayed on the dropdown window. After I restart my computer, though, when I click that arrow in my browser, there will be nothing displayed.

Is there a setting to fix/change this, so that the website urls will be there after restarting my computer??

If someone would offer me some sort of help/advice/suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it! And thanks very much in advance, to anyone who goes out of their way to reply!!

Btw, in case it matters, I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 computer.

I have an HP pavilon computer with Windows XP, and recently upgraded IE to Version 7.0.5730.17, Update version: 0, Cipher Strength 128-bit. I recently had a bout with virus infections from trojans and script runner/creaters. I had also install a new HP printer that caused a Microsoft.Net error. Had the virus cleaned. When I attempt to open Yahoo and Dogpiles main pages, I get Internet Explorer cannot the webpage message. I've deleted the temporary internet file folder, cleaned the folder containing the cookies. Niether helped in getting them to work. I have found some information on the forums relating a similar problem to IE being Hijacked. I have Norton Internet Security '09 and it didn't detect any unusual. How may I fix IE to work with those webpages again? Copy of the Hijackthis log is:

My laptop has a DSL connection that works fine - I can do email, ftp, and direct
connections to application update servers - but IE6 will not connect to any websites.
I just get an interminable blank screen and hourglass icon - not even an error message.
I have set all IE options to default values. Any ideas about what might be happening

A:Internet Explorer doesn't open websites

Problem solved. This totally crippling situation was caused by having "Automatically detect settings" mistakenly checked in LAN Settings in Internet Options > Connections.
