HDMI port not working/detecting external monitor

Q: HDMI port not working/detecting external monitor

I have a lenovo b570e laptop and am running Windows 8.1.

I recently bought a new monitor (ASUS ve248h) to use as a dual monitor along side my own laptop however upon connecting the HDMI cable with the monitor it doesn't appear to work. I have tried updating the drivers and the hdmi port does work while I am connecting to my LG tv using the hdmi port. I have used various cables including the one that connects it to the tv however so far without success.

I am a bit clueless as to why it would work with the tv and not the monitor also my brothers laptop (which has Ubuntu) does successfully connect to the monitor.

Any help would be much appreciated and Thanks in Advanced

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have Lenovo B540 All-In-One (Windows 8) whose monitor is cracked and the screen is black. I'm trying to still use the computer or at least access the hard drive by attaching a second monitor through the HDMI Out connect slot in the back. So I purchased the "DVI-D to HDMI (or vice versa)" cable (Dynex brand) for $40 from BestBuy and made the connection to my DVI monitor.

Well, Lenovo turns on but is not recognizing the second monitor! Should it automatically recognize the second monitor or are there some steps involved like pressing down on certain function keys (like you would in laptops)? I've perused Lenovo's hardware support manual but they don't explain proper steps.

Does anyone know what the proper steps are when the original monitor is not working? I know for sure the computer itself is working; it's making all the right Windows start-up noise. No, the computer is not passworded so it should go in straight.

Would it be easier to connect to the TV via HDMI? Would I then need HDMI cables?

Thanks everyone for any suggestions you might have to offer.

I have a Lenovo G50 running Win8 32bit. I have two external monitors both Asus with VGA ports. I successfully configured one of the monitors to the VGA port. However I have not been able to successfully get my 2nd external monitor connected using the HDMI port. I have a VGA to HDMI adapter for the monitor but it's not working. To rule out any issue with the 2nd monitor, I was able to get it to work by disconnecting the VGA cable from the first monitor and connecting it to the 2nd monitor. But again, no luck using the HDMI port with a VGA to HDMI adapter. So I'm fresh out of ideas. Had anyone been able to resolve this successfully with this setup? And if so, how? Thanks in advance! Leslie

I have a HP Spectre 13 Ultrabook (Model No. F5C93EA#ABU) originally shipped with Windows 8.1 64 bit.About 2 months ago it was updated to Windows 10 64-bit with no great problems (update in place).Recently I observed that the external HDMI port no longer works when trying to connect to a TV. I have since tested many combinations of external monitors and cables together with other laptops and proved the problem is with this laptop, We have updated windows 10 to the latest aniversary update to attempt to fix the problem and have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Gaphics Driver which is currently at version 10.18.15.4248. This the latest driver is as posted at the HP website and tends to the be the version that is also automatically installed via windows update.  I notice that actual baseline release date of 10.18.15.4248 is August last year. Intel have many later non-OEM versions but this is the latest HP OEM version. I am at a loss on how to fix the problem and have had to resort to a plugabble USB3 to HDMI adapter to provide external monitor support.

I upgraded to Windows 10 last week and everything was smooth.  Today when rebooting my system, the unit no longer can see my external display.  I have tried multiple other displays and none seem to work.  I have the latest video drivers for Win10 from the support site installed but it still doesn't work.  Any thoughts?

A:Yoga 2 Pro + Windows 10 = External Monitor not working via micro HDMI

I experienced the same - and also inconsistently that the system is going sluggish/lagging heavily. To fix problem with HDMI downgrade to drivers for Win8.1 - it works but hopefully Lenovo will fix this issue with Win10 drivers!? Overall upgrading to Win10 has been a bad experience (regarding the lagging of the system which usually occurs after 20-30 min after logging on). I've tried removing all third-party startup programs (including Lenovos) - but to no help. The frustration is increasing - any tips will be appreciated :-)

Hello I have been fighting issues with my external monitor not turning back on after sleep. I have it set to hybrid mode, I understand the other fix is to set it to discrete mode but my other laptop of the same type does wake up after moving the mouse in hybrid mode. I tried multiple things. 1.) Updated Intel Management Drivers and Software 2.) Updated Thunderbolt Software 3.) Used Graphic Driver Uninstaller and to no avail.  I also installed every update for Windows 10 on their web site. The other fix is to enable and disable the NVIDIA driver in the and that wakes up the HDMI port it seems, but that should not be the case, I would like it to just turn on with the flick of the mouse or button like my other laptop. Is it a failing graphic card of Nvidia or Intels end? I do notice after the monitor sleeps the NVIDIA drivers control panel settings go missing. I already uninstalled completely and reinstalled the drivers but my computer is still having this problem. Are their any suggestions on Lenovo's end or fixes? I bought this laptop from Amazon and I also joined a 3 year support service from them.

Have you compared the Power Option settings on the two laptops to see if they match as well?Do the two systems share the same monitor, and if not, how is your monitor configured, does it have an option to set the input source to HDMI vs. automatically detecting the source? When in the mode where the screen does not turn back on, what happens if you press the following key combination Windows Key + Shift + Ctrl + B  (forces a reset of graphics cards) do you hear a beep and your screen wake up?     That key combination sometimes works to wake the monitors, and while not a solution, it may be a work around until you find a permanent one. Best of luck,

Hi all,I have purchased a Lenovo Yoga 530. I want it to conect it to second monitor LG 24" but it doesn't work.I have tried to connect it with type C docking station and also directly. None of the ways works. With docking station I tried with display port connector and also VGA (docking station has those two connectors, and my monitor also). From docking station to Yoga is with USB type C. Nor DP nor VGA work.I also tried direct connection without docking station. So, from display port from monitor to HDMI in Yoga (I use an adapter DP to HDMI since I don't have an original DP - HDMI cable). This way it doesn't work either. The situation is that when I connect the monitor nothing happens. I tried detecting display in Yoga, I tried disabling/enabling monitor/graphic card in device manager, I tried driver update, I tried uninstalling and then installing new driver = nothing works.Does anybody have an idea what could this be or how can I fix this? For me it's like the graphic card is not working properly, I don't know what else...Please help

I am having issues that are evidently common to the Yoga 720, namely that I cannot connect to an external monitor via a USB-C to HDMI. I have tried several suggestions to no avail (e.g., suggestions under the following topics):https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-720-USB-C-to-HDMI-Not-Working/td-p/39...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Lenovo-Yoga-720-USB-C-to-HDMI/m-p/3877361#... Specifically, I have updated all drivers, tried both USB-C ports, and tried two different USB-C to HDMI adapters (TRENDnet and CableMatters USB-C to HDMI). I also went into the BIOS, but did not see any relevant options there. The monitor works just fine, and will connect to my wife's Mac via an adapter, or my work computer (direct HDMI out from a ThinkPad). I have tried updating just about anything involved with USB-C or graphics, and played around with resolution settings etc. Have played with settings to output display in both the Windows Display options and the nVidia ones. I haven't come any closer to getting this thing working. Some of the stranger aspects of my issue for anyone interested:1) When I first bought the TRENDnet adapter it would briefly display on my external monitor with a flicking/rolling screen for 30 seconds before cutting out. Now, there is no connection at all, either with the TRENDnet adapter or the newly purchased CableMatters adapter.2) When I am plugged into the first (cha... Read more

I have a gateway C-140 convertible notebook. OS Vista ultimate. I am having trouble connecting an external display such as another monitor or a projector to the VGA port. It worked in the past (less than a year ago when I tried it). I was able to connect a monitor to the docking station and when I connected the notebook to the docking station the external monitor displayed the desktop. I did not use that function much but recently I tried to connect a projector and that's where my trouble began.
Not only was the projector not detected but when I tested the system using the external monitor, it was not detected as well. I can not figure out this problem. Here's what I have tried so far:
Turned off computer, plugged in external monitor and turned on computer - thinking it would auto detect the new hardware. No luck. I tried this in both the docking station and the notebook's VGA port.
I uninstalled the video adapter, rebooted to have the generic VGA display adapter loaded, then re-installed the correct drivers which I downloaded from the intel website for Intel Chipset 965 series Mobile. No luck after reinstalling the video adapter drivers.
What else. . . When I go to the Display Properies I do see the icons for 2 screens with a big number 1 and a big number 2 in each screen. When I click on #2 it does not let me change the screen resolution. It stays on 800x600. But when I click to identify screens with the external monitor plugged in I do not get any picture.

Hi,

I currently want to connect a 2nd monitor to my computer. My graphics card has one VGA output, which is what my main monitor is connected to, and an HDMI output too.

The other monitor I have only has a VGA input, I'm wondering if there's a cable or converter I can get so that I can connect my 2nd VGA monitor to the HDMI output?

Thanks

Ryan

A:VGA monitor, but HDMI port

I think,as your 2nd monitor is not hdmi compatable then your hdmi out form your computer may not give hi def capabilities.
You can get a converter transcoder here http://www.amazon.co.uk/HDfury-1080P-HDMI-Converter-Transcoder/dp/B000SOPWS8 that might do the trick. Could be right for your situation.
Please hang around here and see if anyone else can chip in with suggestions.

I have a monitor that I want to get connected to my HP 210 mini notebook. What will I do in order that my computer be able to detect the external monitor connected to it. I already installed the driver of the monitor.

A:Not Detecting the External Monitor Connected with a netbook

Connecting a monitor to a laptop should be simple. Most laptops automatically pick it up and ask if you want to start using it and how (Duplicate, Extend, Screen 1 OR Screen 2).

There are a few different ways to switch to it, on laptops there's usually a " FN" Key (If no "FN" Key, substitute with CTRL sometimes), and across the F1-F12 keys (sometimes the 1-9 keys..) there as symbols. You want to press the one that looks like a monitor and it should bring up an On Screen Display that shows you choices, and while holding the FN(Or CTRL) key and pressing it again it should change it to the other options as previously mentioned.

The other option depends on what operating system you have on the laptop. Win7, 8, Vista, XP? (I assume 7 or 8)

Anyways let me know if that helped narrow it down, otherwise we'll try the last step which is in basic terms: Control Panel > Display Settings.

Hi

I have an i5-based DG67BL intel motherboard computer that has a DVI and HDMI ports with one DVI monitor connected to the DVI port.

I added an GeFORCE 210 graphics card to it that has a VGA and a DVI ports and connected additional two monitors to it.

So far computer is working fine with three monitors configured in windows as extended desktop.

This motherboard has just one PCIeX16 slot. It has 2 PCIeX1 and a PCI slot that are vacant.

I need to connect yet another DVI monitor. I took a HDMI<->DVI cable, connected it to the onboard HDMI port. the monitor was not detected.

I tried various combinations of monitors and bios settings in vain. Under no circumstances the HDMI port drove the DVI monitor.

The cable is working fine elsewhere.

What did I do wrong ? Is there something I need to buy/replace for this to work ?

Thanks !

A:How to connect additional DVI monitor to HDMI port

you 'need' to connect a 4th monitor? I recommend getting graphics card(s) to support your endeaver, but up to you.

Why don't you get a dvi to vga or maybe its a vga to dvi cord and connect the dvi monitor to the graphics card vga port?

Does it have to go into the HDMI port? HDMI carries sound as well as the video signal, dvi only carries video, and vga carries a lesser quality video

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

I have a Dell Latitude 7280 Laptop with two Dell SE2417HG monitors.
The contrast on the monitor connected via VGA through an adaptor to the USB-C port is fine. The colour  on the Monitor connected via HDMI looks grey instead of black.
I tried swapping the connections, the result is that the monitor connected via HDMI the colour seems "washed out" while the monitor connected tot he USB-C is fine. It is therefore NOT the cables or the monitor. I did a further test with an USB-C to VGA & HDMI adaptor. Connected both monitors via the USB-C port one via HDMI cable and one via VGA. Contrast on both were the same and sharp!
This would therefore seem to be the solution, however, this configuration (having both monitors connected via USB-C) only allows one monitor to extend the desktop and not both and I need all three screens to work individually.
Id there a way to set the contrast on the HDMI port? - Changing the settings on the monitor does not work!

Computer - HP 8710w, Intel Centrino vPro, Nvidia Quadro

I connected my HDMI cable to TV Hdmi port and PC Hdmi port but no signal on TV at all. With Vista it was plug and play (just needed to adjust audio settings on PC).

I have tried downloading updated drivers but to no avail. While connected pressing the Fn key and F4 hey does nothing, the computer has no idea that something is in that port. I think the port is somehow inactive or physically damaged.

How may i check to see if the port is working and how do i check if its software related?

Many thanks

A:HDMI port not working

Are you running more then one monitor at a time? If you are then you need to right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution". Then find the TV on the display device drop-down menu. Then check the box "Make this my Main Display".

Let me know if that works, if not I can help troubleshoot the problem some more.

Hi all,

I've just recently got myself a new laptop (specs at bottom of message) and took it around a friends house and plugged it into their HD TV via HDMI - all worked well, the laptop recognised the TV straight away, optimized the display and away we went.

A few days go by and I decided to upgrade my own TV from an SD to an HD TV (Bush BLED24FHDL8) yeah I know cheap as chips, but it's going alright so far ... well except this problem pmsl.

Within 5 mins of setting up the TV channels I decided to plug my HDMI cable into the laptop and then into HDMI 1 slot on the back of the TV, I changed the input of the TV to HDMI 1 and.... nothing.

Going into the display settings of my laptop didn't show a 2nd display, so I changed various settings trying to get it to recognise the tv, but nothing, still no signal showing on the TV, and nothing showing on the laptop.

So I changed over the cable to the HDMI 2 slot on the TV etc and still nothing on the laptop, I fiddled with the settings again and still couldn't get the laptop to recognise there was a 2nd display, nor get any signal on the TV.

As a last resort I unplugged the HDMI cable and tried the VGA cable I have - and this decided to work, although no sound as I didn't have those cables plugged in.

When I plugged the VGA cable in, the TV and laptop recognised each other straight away and I didn't have to do another thing.

But I've still got this HDMI problem --- I've even gone out this a... Read more

Hi,
I recently unplugged my HDMI cable from my gpu (980ti), once I plugged it back in, the monitor didn't detect any signal. My computer can't find any other monitor, only my main display. Already tried to switch between HDMI cable but still nothing. the HDMI port itself still looks pristine. I don't know why it isn't detecting the second monitor anymore.

Model:17-g101dxS/N:5cd5380vjjMy HDMI port is not registering that there is anything plugged into it. I've tried switching cables and using different device on the cable, everything checks out but the laptop still does not register that there is anything plugged into it.

Hi, Please try to hit f4 which tells your computer to send signals to an external device Regards.

The tv worked for all of 15 seconds, then stopped. I have downloaded the recommended drivers with no resolution to the issue. It is as if the HDMI port no longer exists. I cannot find it anywhere in the device list.HP, is this the kind of customer service you want to be known for? I see many comments on this thread for the same issue, yet you have not provided a solution.Quite interesting how this issue occurred shortly after my warranty expired.

I would like to install a 2nd monitor on my PC (Lenovo H50-50)
I plugged a 2nd monitor with the upper VGA port of my computer but the computer don't recognize this 2nd monitor.
How can I do ?

Mod's Edit:  expanded the problem discription on the Subject line to improve visibility / clarity.

A:Top, upper VGA monitor video port does not work (HDMI, DisplayPort)

Sounds like you have a graphics card installed, if so, the built-in ports are disabled.   I suggest you use the other port on the graphics card.

My laptop has 2 graphic processors: Graphics card (integrated) is Intel Ivy Bridge-MB GT2 - Integrated Graphics with Graphics chipset Intel HD Graphics 4000.Second graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M [HP] with Graphics chipset NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. The notebook has 2 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 VGA and no DisplayPort.  Microsoft updated the OS to Windows 10 version 1607 (OS build 14393.82) NVIDIA says GeForce GT 650M has a max resolution of 3840 x 2160. I connect the laptop to a 2K external monitor via an HDMI cable. Questions / problems:1. Can I get higher resolution than 1920 x 1080 with my notebook on an external monitor via the HDMI port and how?2. The NVIDIA Control panel menu displays only '3D settings'. Can I see the 'Display' menu as shown on this picture, containing 'Change resolution', 'Setup multiple displays' and how?3. What is the HDMI version on my port? This is not shown on the notebook's specifications.

Hello, I'm in IT where I work and we have a few Lenovo P50 laptops. They are all on the same image that I've created but one in particular has the HDMI port that will just not work. I've tried the Thunderbolt firmware upgrade but in order for that to work it says that you must connect it to an external monitor through HDMI and have it displaying which it will not do. Since we've had this one it used to display just fine on HDMI but now it does not. Any ideas for getting the firmware upgraded to see if it helps?
