3GB switch will not switch back, vista 32!

Q: 3GB switch will not switch back, vista 32!

Hello all

I just installed 4GB ram on my 32 vista and it only recognized 3GB in the os (vista 32) and all 4GB in the bios. so I decided to use the /3GB Switch, by using that command in bcdedit, it all worked good. The problem is now I have 3069 mb physical memory and ONLY 209 mb Kernal Memory!!! so I used the "bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa" and bcedit said it worked successfuly so i restart my pc and it STILL had the same memory! so right now im stuck with only 209 mb Kernal memory! any ideas on how to fix this? I looked all over google and found nothing. Should I keep these settings or try and fix it?how do i fix it?

Preferred Solution: 3GB switch will not switch back, vista 32!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: 3GB switch will not switch back, vista 32!

I am not too familiar with those commands you speak of, but I do have a question: Is the video card built into the motherboard? If so, what amount of system memory is being shared with it? Besides that, I have no more ideas to offer you. Sorry

Hi folks! This problem is driving me crazy! Mine is a Dell laptop which had XP home edition. Two weeks ago I switched to Vista only to find out that it's incompatible with some of the programs I use, sometimes doesn't recognise my DVD drive, and causes other problems. I want to get rid of this stupid OS. I first tried to uninstall Vista but it's nowhere in the system! Neither is XP. Then I tried over and over to reformat the hard drive so I could reinstall my XP disk. But I'm getting the message that I couldn't do so because the system is "write protected." I did a Google search and found out that Microsoft has created problems for reversion from Vista to XP. I called Mocrosoft teck suppport and they said my warranty covers only the hardware, and that they could help me out for a charge of $129. I would greatly appreciate your help.

I had windows home prenium and I upgraded it to windows vista Ultimate. I got it from
[link deleted by mod].
I did this because i wanted a fresh start and my hard drive was filling up. When i upgraded it, and windows alerted me that it wasnt geniune. I did not do enough researching. I still have my windows prenium old files and does anyone know how to restore it back to windows prenium. Please no negative comments and help would be very much appreciated.

A:How to switch back to Vista Home Prenium

Welcome to TSG!

You can't downgrade, you'll need to do a clean install. Probably a good idea anyways, there may be more surprises in the Ultimate version you installed than just not being Genuine.

If this is a Major Brand system, you may have a Recovery Partition that will restore the PC to the way it was when it left the factory. This usually deletes all files, same as a clean install, though some have an option to save your documents.
You'll need to check the User Manual to see how to access it. CTRL+F11 for Dells, F10 for HP I believe.

Otherwise just boot with the Vista Home Premium DVD. Be sure you select the Custom install option (should be the only one you can choose).

You'll get to a screen to select the partition to install on. Select the correct partition (if you have more than one) then click Drive Options (Advanced) and delete the partition. You can then create a new partition then install.

I recently bought a laptop from my school and it came with Ubuntu installed on it. I wanted to switch to windows because that is what I have always used. So when I put the windows vista installation disk into the **** drive and rebooted my laptop it didn't boot into it. So I opened the disk up in Ubuntu and loaded the setup.exe (which I had to install wine to use), however when I tried to load the installation it said this:
"This computer does not have enough space for temporary files. Windows installation needs atleast 448 megabytes (MB) of space of any partition for temporary files. To install Windows, free enough space and restart the installation.

error code: 0x80004005"

I have around 200 gb of free space on my drives though. Does anyone have any idea what I need to do to be able to install vista? I'm completely lost by now.

A:I can't switch from Ubuntu back to Windows Vista

You need to change the boot order in BIOS, so your computer will boot from the DVD, rather than the disk.

Need to no if I have this right

they have a dsl modem going to a Linksys router to a 24 port switch then to a little 4 port switch. sure, so then Would it be modem to router then router to any port on the big switch or is there an uplink port on the big switch it should go to? then you would hook a cat5e from one of the regular ports on the 24 port switch and run it to the uplink port on the 4 port switch need to no if the whole sequence is right. Hope someone can help, john will told me the cable would go from the big switch to the uplink on the small switch but I am wondering if I have it all right or not and wonderiing about from the router to the 24 port switch does the cable just go in a regular port in the big switch or if there is an uplink port does it go there. Hope you can understand my rambleing here. Thanks (please don't send me to a link) just need to no modem to router to regular port or uplink port on 24 port switch then from regular port on 24 port switch to uplink port on the 4 port switch. Thanks

A:Solved: Windows xp hookup question for modem, router, switch, to switch?

Router to uplink port on 24 port switch, and then normal port on the 24 port switch to uplink port on the second 4 port switch. An auto-MDX port on a device negates the need to worry about uplink ports for that particular cable connection.

I have Windows 7 Professional on my PC. In the first load I had, the PC should automatically detect if the LAN cable was plugged in, turn off the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable was now in use.
Unfortunately, I had to reload my PC, and since then I can't get it to do it again.
So, what I'd like to achieve is this: Have Windows automatically detect when the cable is plugged in, turn of the wireless radio, and change the network icon in the right bottom corner to reflect the cable is in use - and, obviously, vice versa.
Can someone tell me what I need to do, please?

A:Have Windows 7 automatically switch to LAN when cable is plugged in and switch to wireless when it's removed

There are two methods can help you.
1. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings> and right click your wired and wireless adapters one at a time to change the properties. Select IPv4, click <Properties>
then click <Advanced>. For each one, clear the "Automatic metric" check box and assign the metric value manually. Setting your wired adapter?s metric value lower than wireless adapter one, such as ?1? for wired adapter and ?2? for wired adapter.

2. Go to <Network and Sharing><Change Adapter Settings>,
hold down 'alt' to bring up the "File" menu, select "Advanced", select
"Advanced Settings" from the dropdown menu, adjust the priority of your wired adapter higher than your wireless adapter in the "Advanced Settings" window under the "Adapters and Bindings" tab.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

you need to enable Network Login, but that requires that win2003 have

a domain controller
a DHCP service
and a DNS service.
the Domain Controller is just another name for LDAP and it becomes the control point

I have a wireless router connected to my modem, and ALL PC's connect to that for internet.

I also have a gigabit switch I use to transfer data in between several of the machines. I do it quite often and I don't want it eating up the wifi bandwidth.
I have done it before, but it has been a long time and I cannot remember how I forced internet traffic over the wifi and local traffic through the switch
Is the only way to do it to specifically tell Windows to use the IP address of the LAN connection? I know it will work that way, forcing local traffic directly to that IP, but I seem to remember there being an easier way to do this.

We have 3 16 port switches connected to our router. Everything has been in place and working well since last May.
Beginning this week, as soon as one employee arrives and turns on his pc, every pc on that switch loses internet access. Not network access - can still see other pc's - just no internet.

The pc causing the problems is the oldest on our network, but it is running Win10 like the others. When I check the stats on the router for his IP address, his has the highest transmission numbers.

We are scheduled to replace that pc within the next 2 weeks, but is there something I can/should look at doing in the mean time?

Hi everyone, I searched through the forums but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

Currently we have a DHCP server set up to a switch, that has a special line connecting to a switch in our shop which is just across our back lot, giving network access to the few computers over there. They recently put in a new machine that needs network access, but they have already accidentally cut two ethernet cords. I'm looking to provide a wireless solution for the machine, but I don't want to have to spend a few thousand dollars on a large wireless switch.

Can I plug a wireless router into the switch in our shop, and essentially turn it into a wireless bridge, or is there another, simpler way to do this?

If this has already been answered, sorry for missing it!

A:Solved: DHCP Server -> Switch -> Switch -> Wireless

While you could use a router, or even configure the router to act as an access point, why not just buy a true access point? They start at $27: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCate...ame=Wireless-AP-Bridges-Repeaters&Order=PRICE

I was about to install the update for Firefox and after I clicked finish; It didn't seem like anything was loading, so I selected firefox startup. ( I'm still not even sure if anything was loading in the first place )

Anyway, I guess that could have been part of the problem, but there's more; I closed that window before I was about to finish because It looked like there were two windows open, but when I closed one, the other followed.

And anyway, I clicked the firefox setup icon on my desktop again and completed it this time, but for some reason, there are now three firefox icons on my desktop that don't even work!

On top of that, I can't even delete them; it says cannot read the source file or disk, or something like that. Anyway, I somehow even managed to delete the other version of firefox that was on my desktop when I dragged another to the recycle bin.

Now, I have to go to the start menu now if I want to use firefox.

The critical update icon is still on this version, so I guess if I could some how manage to delete this immortal firefox shortcuts, I'd be good. But what do I know?

A:Someone help me before I switch back to IE

The firefox updater can cause problems, I never use it, I just download the new version from the site. First off open the Task manager (right click taskbar - Task Manager), and stop any instance of Firefox.exe. Delete the Shortcuts on the desktop.

Uninstall Firefox from add/remove programs, then install the new version.
The Profile folder will still be on your PC, so extensions etc will be in the new version.

Or if you want to perform a clean install, then the following is from my post yesterday.

Lister said:

For a Clean install of Firefox...

Best advice is to download the latest Firefox installer, then uninstall Firefox. copy the following files from the profile folder to a safe location (desktop folder perhaps?).

The Profile is located in (WinXP) = C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*randomcharacters*.default

FILES to KEEP before deleting the old profile

# bookmarks.html Bookmarks.
# prefs.js Current user preferences.
# user.js User-added preferences (overrides prefs.js every startup).
# cookies.txt Cookies.
# hostperm.1 Cookies permissions, image permissions, and extension website install permissions list.
# signons.txt Saved passwords. Requires the "key3.db" file to work.
# key3.db Supplements password file.

Then delete the Mozilla folder in Application data and any remaining 'Mozilla Firefox' folder in 'Program Files'.

I upgraded to IE 8 just a few weeks ago. As luck would have it, I was also granted free hosting space with my employer. My employer arranged a secured connection so I can access my control panel (https). IE continues demanding a certificate and I just found out there's no way to disable this. I get the "Microsoft can't verify..." There's no way I'm getting a security certificate just to access my control panel. The domains I have are information sites, they're free (no financial transactions at all), and I do not have any need for a secure setting beyond domain administration. Likewise, this is the only site of this kind I visit and the only one that gives me that warning.

I think this is a very ridiculous measure and the setting, as well as the choice to visit, should be up to the user. Today, I found I can't access my control panel at all. I suspect it relates to IE's hassle over the site. I don't like the new IE. How can I revert back to the old one?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Switch IE 8 back??

Just an update. Computability mode doesn't work with the site, either.

I thought that I had this all figured out, but my dad just asked me a question about my setup, and I can't answer it.

The setup is like this:
[ip-phones + computers]-->[small switch]-->[managed L2 switch]-->[router]-->[modem]

I have several ip-phones and computers grouped into blocks of 8. Each set of 8 is a medley of phones/computers connected to a small switch http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=3681322279B34

Each of these switches, in turn, will be connected to a managed L2 switch http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/pwcnt_3448p?c=ca&cs=calca1&l=en&s=biz that will create 2 VLANS: One VLAN will contain all of the phones, and the other will contain all of the computers. In turn, each VLAN will have its own router and DSL modem, thereby separating the network traffic.

I know that I can use this L2 switch to make the VLANS based on the MAC addresses of the devices. However, the smaller switches do not support 802.1q [VLANs]. Will it be a problem that the smaller switches do not support VLANs? Essentially, will this setup work to split up network traffic?

Thanks once again,

A:Computer, switch, switch, router, modem

I have the same DELL switch for my phones. You PoE will not carry across the linksys switches, so that is the first problem.
Next are the computers attached to the phones? Or does each device get its own drop?

And whats this about 2 routers and modems? Thats a bit over kill!! QoS would do the trick.

I would run all the devices off the Dell and attach the computers to the Phones (most IP Phones have a passthrough port) Configure the Dell with trunk ports with the Computer VLAN passing untagged traffic making it the native VLAN. While having the phones on a Tagged VLAN(If you phones conig allows you to set the VLAN in its config great! If not you can bind the MAC to the VLAN). The you create a QoS policy giving the VoIP traffic priority!

Hey there!

Apols if this has been covered a lot in the forum, but a search baffled my untrained eyes..!

Have just purchased this; HP Pavilion g6-2210sa 15.6" Laptop - Red Deals | Pcworld

Upon hearing that I was up for the challenge of setting it up myself, the sales assistant pointed out that the very first thing I must do is back up the OS (windows 8).

I asked, 'oh, is the OS on a hidden partition?' .. and he said no, its in the BIOS. And I only have one chance to make a back-up copy, as soon as I switch on. Also; if I have software issues after that point, but haven't backed up the OS, I can't claim it under the manufacturer's warranty as an issue.

I believe that the .. key? .. is in the bios now, so I never have to worry about losing it, but apart from that .. egad.

Is there an auto-prompt, or do I need to do a regular ol' back-up .. and where do I back it up to, a separate hard drive/dvd etc?

So. I have this shiny, new, laptop. In it's shiny, new, unopened box, right now. And am starting to wonder if I should have coughed up the ?50 to get 'em to set it up for me..!

Advice, please?

I have so many problems with Win 10 that I want to change back to Win 7. Is it practical to do a clean install of Win 7 after previously migrating all my programs to Win 10? Will I just have to go back to Win 10 in the future?

A:Is It Practical To Switch Back To Win 7?

Hi, Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Your PC isn't compatible with Win 10 according to this list
Windows 10 - Which model supports upgrade to Windows 10?

- I couldn't quickly find one for the USA so you could check that as it could be a US only model.

If you had been using disk imaging, you could simply have restored images created before you upgraded in a couple of hours- maybe less.

Yes, you can clean install Win 7: I would suggest you use disk imaging to image what you have now so that you have a full backup which allows you to retrieve almost anything you forgot to back up any other way.

Nothing will force you to upgrade to Win 10, and you can reinstall that or restore your disk images any time you like.

Creating disk images lets you restore Windows and all your disks and partitions to a previous working state, quickly and probably without technical help.

You can recover from:
- a failed disk drive (restore to a new one)
- ransomware (which encrypts your disk)
- user error
- unrecoverable problems from failed updates to problem programs
- unbootable PC (hardware faults aside)

Images also act as a full backup- you can extract files too.

You can even use images to help you move more easily and quickly to a new PC.

Imaging can even help you sleep at night knowing you have a second chance.

Many here recommend Macrium Reflect (free) as a good robust solution and more reliable than some others. It?s
- more feature rich
- more flexible
- more reliable

I have a desktop pc I just built I am currently using my laptop HD in my desktop machine if I was to put the laptop HD back in the laptop would it bootup and run programs like normal or will I have to reinstall the os and all programs

A:can I switch my HD back to my laptop from desktop

You would need to clean install the OS and all the programs.

If the OS for the desktop was installed on the laptop hard drive (installed in the desktop) then all of the drivers in the OS are geared for the desktop. None of the drivers needed to run on the laptop are installed. It would not start up.

You could install the hard drive in the laptop and then do a Repair Install on the existing OS installation to try and save some time and effort, but these can result in some strange behaviors in some cases.
To have the best OS installation you really should do a clean install.

Hello all,

I've just pressed wrongly Fn+F4 instead of Fn+F5 on my Compaq Laptop. Then my monitor is not smooth any more. Then I rightclick on Desktop -> Properties -> Display Setting. I select something that I can't remember now. Something like switch to 2nd monitor... And then the monitor goes blank and black. I can't see anything. I guess it has switched to external monitor. As I rightclick on Desktop, it has 1 more entry: [NVidia Display] -> [Laptop display] and [TV]. I select each of them but nothing changes. I do some searching, this result seems to be similar:

but I tried to press many times Fn+F4 but nothing helps. When I rightclick on Desktop, the menu context appears, but I can't see the Display Setting window any more.

How can I switch back to default monitor? Just by editing Registry or ini file...?

Please help me, tell me how to do now? Thank you a million!

A:Solved: I can't switch back to default monitor!

OK, I use a second monitor, plug into the laptop. Then the "real" display is shown in the second monitor. On that screen I restore the default monitor to the laptop (primary). OK for now. Thank God!

Hi guys My tiny dog climbed up on my Yoga 2 while I wasnt looking. He put his paws on the keyboard and now my touchscreen has stopped working. I have tried all the usual steps: a restart, fn + F10. There are no drivers for this thing listed on the Lenovo Website. I am tempted to do a factory reset. I am a little confused why it stopped working at all, but I am partially disabled and I really miss using the touchscreen. Can anyone help me with this who is very familar with Android -based OS?

WinXP Pro SP2
For some unknown reason it has quit changing from sending sound to the speakers to sending it to USB when I plug my USB headset in. Or vica versa when I unplug the headset.

I had this once before and the only solution that worked was to boot into safe mode and select "Open last configuration that worked". However, this time it did not fix the problem.

I have checked the obvious like making sure that nothing was set to mute, or making sure that the headset was working by doing the sound and microphone check.I don't know what to do next.

Any help please?

A:Desktop just died, wont switch back on please help

When you attempt to boot up your pc what happens? do you have anything displayed on the screen, do you hear the computer being turned on at all or is it just not starting up at all?

Indeed my guess would be a Bugged PSU if nothing pops up on screen and you don't hear the pc turn on. If you hear the pc turn on (fans spinning and all) but do not get anything on screen followed by a shutdown then its most likely the motherboard.

You might be running a cheap PSU and that has a potential to even fry your computers parts and components. If it boils down to the PSU, i suggest investing in a reliable PSU like Antec perhaps or Silverstone

Watching youtube, and playing some games, and watching VLV --- whenever I switch between speakers and headphones the audio stops. I have to refresh the youtube page or reload the VLC video.

Is there a way to get around this?

I use autohotkey to switch, but that shouldn't matter. The problem is there when I manual switch via the sound menu.

If you can fix this I will be in debt. Ty

A:switch between headphones and speakers, and cant get sound back

You should not have to manually switch anything when going between headphones and speakers if you use the correct jacks. The front panel connection on the motherboard should be used to connect to the case front panel jacks, and use the HD Audio, not the AC97 connection for the motherboard connection so it will auto sense.

Otherwise, a little more info on what you are doing.
