I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good morning, for the last couple months I've been getting an error message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system". I close the window, and try to select another, I hear the fan ramp up, then the error message appears. I click to close button on the error box, then I'm able to change to another window. The Task Manager shows when a window is closed the CPU goes to 100% for 10 to 15 seconds, then back down to 2% to 4%, only then can I access the new window. Tried in Firefox Safe Mode, cleared the cookies and cache, but problem still persists. Tried in Internet Explorer 7, and can zip back and forth between windows with no delay. I use Secunia, and have the latest Firefox, and other programs, does anyone have an idea whats happening?

Thanks for your time,...Tom

I was just curious if anybody has been receiving the same error message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

I have been getting this on my laptop for a few weeks now, off and on, when I close Mozilla Firefox for whatever reason and try to reopen it immediately after. Usually, after receiving the error message I just wait a few seconds and try again and the browser opens just fine.

However, I now just found out that my cousin has been dealing with the same problem, only worse, when he uses his laptop at home. (different locations, different networks, different brands of laptop.) I witnessed first-hand that he had the same error message, only his did not go away, nor could we get his browser to open. He says this happens to him every time he closes Firefox and tries to reload.

We resolved this issue by opening the task manager and manually ending Mozilla under processes, not applications, since it was not on the applications list, but was on the processes list.

Tell me if you have been experiencing the same or similar issues with Mozilla Firefox. I am curious, because this is the only problem I have ever had with Firefox, other than the occasional browser crash.

Thanks,

.Chris

Everyday when I open Mozilla Firefox I get a box with the message saying that "Firefox is still running. If you want to open another session you must first close the session or restart your system." But when I go to the task manager it doesn't show anything running, so my only solution is to always restart the computer. This started about a week ago when I did the most recent update. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Firefox and that has not helped either. It still gives me the same message whenever I start a session of Firefox. If I restart my computer it will then let me open it without any message. I use Windows Vista Home.

A:Mozilla Firefox message about already running

Sounds like you have a lock file in your profile directory.

When Firefox starts it creates a lock file in your profile directory. If for some reason that file doesn't get deleted, Firefox will refuse to start a new session because it thinks one already exists.

I moved my Thunderbird and Firefox profile folders from their original locations in Roaming... to a C:\ ... location because their backups were in Compatibility Files. When I went to start either one, I got a close program message. It stated that FF (or when starting TB), they were already running and had to be closed. I then ran Process Explorer and Windows Task Manager. neither of whih showed any indication that these programs were running. I then return the profiles to their original locations, and FF and TB returned to normal. Can anyone explain what was going on?

Thank you in anticipation, that someone will be able to help with my problem as outlined below.

I am using Firefox browser with the AOL dialer, as I recently stopped using the AOL software after changing from AOL dial up to AOL Broadband wireless. I am still using the AOL dialer as I gather, I need this to log on wirelessly with AOL, at least in UK.

When I log onto Firefox, I get a server error message. So I go to Tools > Options >
Connection Settings & then click onto the Direct or Auto connection setting, go back & retry & it allows connection to my homepage, but I have to do this each time I logon to Firefox. IE causes no problems & nor does Opera, but as I use roboform which isn't compatible with Opera I prefer Firefox to IE.

When this first happened I thought Firefox might have been corruupted so removed & reinstalled but same error message? My partners laptop who has no problems logging on is using the same AOL wireless connection although mine is the PC which was connected to wireless/router/modem.

A work around would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

About a week ago I installed Firefox 3, and for that week, it worked perfectly. However, yesterday I encountered several problems. Firstly, for some unknown reason, each time I went onto YouTube, Google, and various other sites, an error message kept appearing, saying 'Address not found' Sometimes these sites work, sometimes they don't. Weirdly, sometimes they work but only the raw text and the images come up, the text is in Times New roman and there is no background. So, I uninstalled firefox 3, I reinstalled Firefox 2, which didn't work. I checked on Internet Explorer 7, which had the same problem. This problem never happened before I had firefox! When I restart Firefox it works better, but gradually diminishes in success and loading time. At some points, all sites work, at some points, very few do. Some sites ALWAYS work perfectly, however one site, namely Bebo, is notourious for not working. I have a Vista and I'm using a wireless router with Virgin internet access. I've checked for viruses, and quarentined one, but the problem still persists. I've deleted several add ons.. erased browser chaches.. chewed a few pens... to no avail. So please, if you could help, I would be very grateful .

When playing online games at Pogo.com (and a couple of other sites)...my XP and Firefox both close down suddenly during the game setup procedure. On Pogo I get as far as the game box with the last ad in it while the game loads but then suddenly either browser will just shut off.
I also noted yesterday that on a site using DirectX control to display I just get the display box with a 3D grid in it instead of whatever was supposed to display in the box.
I downloaded IE7 and didn't like the interface so unloaded it and went back to IE6. This began happening after the unload. So I reloaded IE7 and it is still happening. I have gone back on system restore to a point before all this but the problem is still going on.

I had The Shield Deluxe 2009 installed and it must have been monitoring my activity because a screen came up and said I had two 'issues' one of them a Trojan. Stupid me, I did not pay attention and clicked delete file on one and quarantine on the other, both with messages saying I successfully took care of the problem. After that I was told to reboot, when Win came back up, I noticed that the 'D' for The Shield Deluxe in the app tray was gone. I tried running it from the directory, nothing. I then tried repairing and re-installing the Shield and eventually when that didn't work, I deleted it. I then installed Norton Antivirus 2009, and it did a 'full' scan after only ~7000 file scanned with no problems, I tried to do a disk scan, and it took about one second and nothing.
After that, when ever I run Firefox or IE, I get this error pop-up:

'The application or DLL globalroot\systemroot\system32\gxvxcrsveyeagmbhwnotdeayqfhsuibmrmlcg.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.'

A:[SOLVED] Error message after I click on Firefox

dlplugin.exe could possibly be malware. We had another case of this problem recently posted in the Security forum. Try creating a new profile and then log into Firefox with it. Do you still get the error message?

For reference only (do not attempt any of these instructions without further help):

I just tried to install Firefox 3 on a Windows XP Home machine that has just been upgraded per SP3. Firefox, when you attempt to run it, appears inside of the process viewer (in the task manager), but it dies after gaining about 9MB in memory size before suddenly disappearing, with no window appearing to say that it crashed. I've tried to uninstall it and reinstall it, but not much else.

What should I try?

Only an idea!!!!  Not sure but it may be the newer FF may not run well on XP, you could experiment by down loading and older version.

Thanks if anyone can help with this -- I'm pulling my hair out.

I've accumulated more than 2000 bookmarks on Firefox (I know), and want to export them for use on IE. I've followed the usual routine of saving the .html but when I attempt to import on IE it very quickly gives me the error message: "Some settings were not imported successfully." I've tried several times, and it usually transfers a few hundred across (never more than 400) before giving me the error.

What am I missing? I really hope it's not something to do with "forbidden" (forgive my not knowing the correct expression) characters being used in Firefox bookmarks, like ":" and """. If you bookmark an Amazon.co.uk page, for example, it has a couple of ":"s in the name. Could that possibly be it?

Any way around this? It's frustrating being stuck on something so straightforward, especially as I'm sure I did this without trouble just a couple of months ago.

Cheers if you can help!

A:Error message when attempting to import Firefox bookmarks

That exact same problem happened to me too - wouldn't import HTML bookmark file from Firefox. I never did get it fixed so I resolved to stay with Firefox and only use IE for Windows Updates.

My guess is it's a bug in the newer versions of IE because I never had that problem with IE6. My guess is that many IE8/IE9 users haven't yet discovered the problem because they either don't use Firefox or they never needed to import Firefox bookmarks yet.

The real idiotic thing is that IE8/IE9 will open that HTML bookmark file no problem, but it won't import it. I just gave up on IE altogether (which wasn't a very hard decision anyhow, given that Firefox is much more customisable and is updated more often).

First thing this morning, I opened Firefox as usual, and it gave me an alert:

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (weather) isn't associated with any program."

I can click OK, or the x-box, or hit escape, as many times as I want, but the dialog box won't close. I have to open Task Manager and end task. But Task Manager doesn't say it's not respoding. Sometimes it just closes it, and other times it tells me Firefox is waiting for a response from me.

I've re-downloaded and reinstalled the program, but it doesn't help.

Firefox has been freezing up on me, and when I close it down, I get a bluescreen error. It also happens a lot of the time when I close Firefox down normally. This was happening before I updated to the latest version of FF. I am running Windows XP, and have recently started using ZoneAlarm and Avast on my system.

A:Firefox closes = bluescreen error? (Moved for the mozilla/Firefox Forum)

Hi,

Can you give us the error in full that you are getting. Also, I would check and make sure that ZoneAlarm and Avast are allowing FF to connect to the internet.

Cheers!

A:Firefox not running after latest update, error AppHangB1

Welcome to the forum.

Did you download firefox from its home page?

Did you restart after uninstalling it? (Not necessary) But in some cases it works.

Download Ver 14.0.1 from the link below, but Reboot your computer before installing.
Download Firefox 14.0.1 - FileHippo.com

Also do you have Ccleaner installed?
Go to the Registry tab | Scan for issues | Fix selected issues | You will be prompted for keeping a back up, hit yes if you do, if not hit no and Fix all selected issues. Reboot then try install firefox.

Do post back results.

Problem as noted in the title. Using Windows XP SP2 on approx. 3 year old Compaq PC. Firefox was working a couple days ago, then would not open, with the error mesage "The instruction at "0x0159001c" referenced memory at "0x0159001c". The memory could not be "written"." I downloaded both Google Chrome and Apple's Safari to try and get online. Chrome won't work at all, and Safari gives me the exact error message that Firefox does. Strangely, Opera is working just fine, its what I'm using now to post this.

I suppose at this point I should mention recently (within the past week) I've had Google searches being redirected. I generally used a workaround or another search engine, thinking I would eventually find the problem with a cleanup or a scan.

My computer became infected with various sorts of spyware and trojans. It seemed that I was able to remove all of it with malwarebytes, superantispyware, and adaware. However, there is still one problem that I have now:

When I click on google search results, firefox browser opens suspicious-looking pages in a new tab or new window. I have uninstalled firefox (including all my settings) and re-installed it, which did not solve the problem.

Besides that, my computer keeps showing me a message about an "internet explorer script error", even when I am not using Internet Explorer. It includes the following URL: hxxp://ui.mevio.com/static/js/combined/index.js?r=38312. I suspect that this message could be caused by a virus too.
