I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you have any good tips on running SU.exe from the resource kit? I'm having a hell of a time and I read all the help files on trying to run it. I used the correct syntax like in the examples but no luck.

Any suggestions or good test commands to make it run? In the end I am hoping to make a program run under another user without having to enter in a password all the time.

Been trying out vLite, It's looking pretty cool. Basically it allows you to configure Vista before it's even installed. You extract an ISO, customize the features you want in your install, and add extra drivers etc, then recontruct it and burn it. From there you can install your own custom Vista.

I've managed to get my install down to 800mb after stripping out loads of crap and it sure does run sweet :P

I'm going to post some tutorials and instructions etc on my site as soon as I've played with it some more.

Hi,
Install windows 10 and confirm activation as suggested in forums. Downloaded Windows Media Creation Tool to create fresh reinstall. Ran it to create 64 bit ISO. Now using the ISO to reinstall windows 10. At 30% restore, it failed. I tried various recovery. Even did chkdsk on drive c with /r and also with /f. Same problem again - failure at about 30% restore.

Reading in forums, I discover Refresh Windows Tool(exe). Downloaded and ran it (tool) to download Windows 10.
What I dislike. No Pause or ability to use a download manager. When this download of about 3gb is done, where is it saved? How to use? Yea, automatic for I still have prior install files (programs, data folders, etc) which means nothing was done. Did restart hoping for a fresh reinstall - no changes. Thus I am posting in this forum with paragraph 1 (media tool) and Refresh tool (paragraph 2).

Went into BIOS startup and told it to use DVD (boot order priority), but instead window normal login was done and given. Thus, use window recovery within to execute the ISO.

Hi. I'm new to W-2000pro and am wondering if anybody knows how to make the Windows pop-up toolboxes larger. I am talking about the kind of boxes that Windows pop-ups so that we can make a choice or change in what is happening. An example is if you right click on the desktop and get the Display Properties box. Can we make those type of boxes larger? They won't let me drag them larger.

I am trying to decide what the best option is for configuring (set up, updates, installs) multiple computers on a network domain. Could someone who has experience with at leat one (ideally a few) of these solutions comment on which one is best? We are running mostly windows 10, a few windows 7 machines, and a server with windows 2012. We will most likely only have one or two configurations that will be cookie-cutter for everyone.
The solutions I am considering are:
NTLite
Windows ADK with group policy for some updates
System Center Configuration Manager
Things I would like to consider: Ease of learning and use, speed of setup, and features/usability. I would like to be able to not only install windows updates, but also third party software. What are you using? Is there anything else better than any of these? I'm looking to get a consensus on the best option, so please leave a comment with any opinions on the matter.

Hi Guys

i just made some changes to msconfig and made so that a few programs dont start automatically on startup, to speed up my computer a bit, but now when i start my computer it comes up with a message saying:

"you have used the system configuration utility to make changes to the way Windows starts.

the system configuration utility is currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time windows starts.

Choose the normal Startup mode on the general tab to start windows normally and undo the changes you made using the system configuration utility.

[]don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when windows start:"

What do i do? because i don't want to revert back to my old settings, because it'll slow my computer down again, but then i don't know if i want my computer to be running in a funny mode. does anyone know what this means or what i should do?

Thanks heaps!

Hi there,

New to the forum and some challenge navigating topics, so please forgive if this has been covered.

I am trying to remove a virus titled Security Tool and any other problems from a XP system.

Following is a history of recent unsuccessful attempts
1. downloaded Malwarebytes, ran full scan, found three items, removed and rebooted. no appearance of Virus.

2. Next day, reappearance of virus

3. could not re-run Malwarebytes.

4. Renamed exe file to alternate on alternate computer with flash drive. Could not execute

5. downloaded again, and try to execute with random name from flash drive. Could not execute.

6. Cannot run, regedit; command.com; devmgmt.msc or cmd

7. separately downloaded dds; combofix and win32kdiag; "application cannot be executed." "notepad.exe is infected"
appreciate the support,
IrishO

A:Security Tool Virus (System Tool 2011)

Hello IrishO ,Let's disable the main file manually so you can run some tools. What I want you to look for is in Application Data (If using XP). There will be a folder, with a file in it of the same "name". This will appear random, but it has a pattern. Look for letters and numbers in this order: lower case, upper case, lower case, upper case, lower case, then 5 random numbers. For example:Folder -----> pEeHl02508\pEeHl02508.exe <-----file insideDelete the folder. Now, if you still have no access to the internet, download the following tool to a flash drive from a different computer, then put it on the infected one and run it.This tool is not a toy. If used the wrong way you could trash your computer. Please use only under direction of a Helper. If you decide to do so anyway, please do not blame me or ComboFix.* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. IF YOU USE AVG IT MUST BE UNINSTALLED OR THIS WILL NOT RUN.1. Download this file - combofix.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe 2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.Note:Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall. If you have trouble running it the first time, then rename ComboFix.exe to IrishO.exe and try again. Thanks, tea

Hiya

Tool for issues discussed in Q296088

Specific support tool to create a truncated copy of a .pst file allowing some recovery when the file size has reached over 2 gig. The copy does not have all the original data because the tool cuts a user defined amount of data from the file.

System Requirements

Recovery Limitations of the 2 GB Truncation Utility:

You must have 2 GB of free hard disk space (to make a copy of the .pst file).
The utility truncates the .pst file to under 2 GB. To have enough working space, truncate the file between 20 to 25 megabytes (MB) less than the 2 GB limit. The truncated data is removed from the new copy, which means some messages are missing from the recovered copy.

You probably installed Outlook as "corporate workgroup", which is GENERALLY used for an exchange server (at work, usually), in which case, you use Tools-Services.

If you want to use it at home, for just one Outlook user account (not email account--you can have as many of those as you like), then go to Tools-Options, Email and look for "reconfigure mail setup" or something like that. Switch it over to Internet Mail Only.

You can easily see which one you've set it up for under Help-About...

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hello, I split you yo your own topic.Have you tried all the steps here?>>> Removal Guide Remove System Tool and SystemTool .You will move to the Automated Removal InstructionsAfter you completed that, post your scan log here, let me know how things are.The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

Hi, Y'all...

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on my desktop at home. Home built, 4 years old, AMD Duron processor. Recently (for last couple of days), any time I try to search, my entire system hangs. I checked the Microsoft articles, and found this, which I have seen cited in other threads here but include below.

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Explorer.exe process may experience an error in Rkadmin.dll and unexpectedly quit. To work around this problem, uninstall the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. (link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900004/en-us)

Unfortunately, I don't see the W2K Resource Kit in Add/Remove Programs, and if I try to search for the file, well...then I have to Crtl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager to end task on the explorer window and end process on drwtsn32.exe (if I only end one or the other, it still hangs).

I've been poking around for two days now, because I'm sure the answer is on the very next post I read or article I check, but I leave for vacation in two days, and I need my files!

Please advise. How do I uninstall the Windows 2000 Resource Kit?

I did recently run CCleaner for the registry, but I have the back-up saved in case I need to restore.

Thanks for all the help - y'all have never let me down...

A:no windows or tool bar

Hi cro, welcome to the board,
You may get into safe mode and search for the unusual or suspected program file and have it removed. If you can't, that means you have got a bad ass one that is very likely you need to restore to previous restore point. If this wouldn't help, boot from OS CD/DVD and repair by restore from there. If failed, save all important data and reinstall Vista.

Good luck and let us know how is it turns out.

My laptop is infected with a malware that looks exactly like System Tool but it calls itself Windows Tool. I tried to download rkill and it stops all attempts to open it or Malwarebytes. I tried to save rkill to a cd on my desktop but I keep getting the message "You cannot save to this location. Please choose another location." Meanwhile, the laptop has reached some kind of overkill and shut itself down.

This is the 4th time my laptop has been infected and the other times I was able to do a system restore and get rid of it, but this time my system restore only has one option and it's not back far enough; any help with the reason for that would also be very appreciated.

Finally, this is the laptop that my teen son uses to play Blockland and he keeps infecting the )#&($*&%# thing. Is Blockland doing this or is he sneaking onto other sites? I've never found anything in history that would show that, but I am really interested in knowing where NOT to go so we can stop encountering this.

Thanks for all your help.

A:Windows Tool

Hello.Blockland itself isn't harmful. . . but any third party mods or applications might be. There's no way to be absolutely certain. Another possibility is that the machine was never really clean after the first infection. System restore is rarely sufficient for removing malware. One thing you can try. From the following page. . . download the version of Rkill titled iexplore.exe. See if you can get that one to run. If successful, continue with the steps in the following guide. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-windows-toolIf that doesn't work let me know.~Blade
