Q: Event Viewer could not clear the log. The following error occurred: The request is not supported

Hi,

Having issues with the Windows Event Log. It won't show. Even tried to clear it with this error. Even if I try to clear it using PowerShell I always end up in "Failed to clear log xxx. The request is not supported.".

Already tried sfc /scannow, of course restarting...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After too many unexplained problems, I decided to reinstall Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and migrate off of SBS 2011 Standard. In addition to the primary workstation that can't read any event logs, I built five Server 2012 R2 servers (Hyper-V host, Active Directory
VM, Exchange 2013 VM, SQL Server 2014 VM, and WSUS VM).

I was diagnosing why my workstation's Outlook cannot reach the local Exchange Server.   I tried to look at the event logs, and found the
Event Viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.  Verify that Event Log service is running (it is) or the query is too long (whatever that indicates).  The request is not supported (50)
Looking at the directory of the event logs folder.  It appears that most logs are empty, which is understandable since it's a rebuilt installation.  I found a small number of Applications and Services Logs and it appears nothing was logged since
six days ago on 4/4/2016.   On support forums, I found many have this exact problem on Win 7, Win 8, and Win 10.  Of the solutions posted none of them would even execute on my Win 8.1 Pro x64 machine.  I tried clearing the event logs (WEVTUTIL
CL logfilename) and am told Failed to clear log .... The request is not supported.
It's very difficult to diagnose why Outlook 2013 cannot reach Exchange 2013, even if Outlook is installed on the Exchange server machine (just as a test).  The web-based Outlook owa, ecp, ... all work fine. ... Read more

When exactly is it a good time to clear the event viewer logs in Windows XP? My computer is having problems recently you see. If I take it a repair shop would I be doing a disservice to myself by clearing the event viewer? Is it something that would at all help the repairman diagnose what's wrong with my computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Help. When to clear the event viewer.

Event Viewer can be very useful because it can provide more detailed information on error messages that appear during Windows operations. It can also log events that you don't see elsewhere.

I would say that a good time to clear event logs is when you are not having any issues. That's not to say a repair tech would necessarily even use Event Viewer to help diagnose and solve your problem, because it depends on the problem. Why do you want to clear it?

Hi Everyone,

Been using this code for a while to clear out event logs

@echo off
FOR /F "tokens=1,2*" %%V IN ('bcdedit') DO SET adminTest=%%V
IF (%adminTest%)==(Access) goto noAdmin
for /F "tokens=*" %%G in ('wevtutil.exe el') DO (call :do_clear "%%G")
echo.
echo goto theEnd
:do_clear
echo clearing %1
wevtutil.exe cl %1
goto :eof
:noAdmin
exit

Since I'm not a coder I would appreciate someone to take a look at this. What happens is I run this .bat file as an admin and the box opens then closes. Normally I get a scrolling list of everything that it clears, but thats no longer the case.

Help is appreciated.

1. Every time I boot up the computer, the following error is generated in Event Viewer:
Source: DistributedCom, Event ID: 10010

The server {F9717507-6651-4EDB-BFF7-AE615179BCCF} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

This key pertains to appID WinInetBrokerServer (CLSID WinInetBroker). I tried adding permissions to the key(s) but that didn't solve the problem. In the permissions for the key, the first user name listed is named Account Unknown (S-1-15-2-1).
I think maybe that may have something to do with it. I deleted the 6 registry keys associated with this key and everything worked but I was locked out of Windows XP Mode (Windows Virtual PC). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to fix this error?

Since the Microsoft Security Patch on Tuesday, we've received many reports of users having connection problems like this"

The error is impacting:

Remote Desktop ConnectionRemote Desktop Connecting to Azure VMsVPN Network Connections (before one can even try to use Remote Desktop)
This is quite a mess and seems to be related to the security patch increasing security requirements, but not implementing the change to give the machine the increased security levels. The latter doesn't seem to occur if the machine has automated Windows
Updates turned off.
Unfortunately, Windows Update can't be automated in many environments such as development, build, test, staging and production without creating other problems.
Wrote a blog post about our findings so far with a workaround on how to reduce Remote Desktop security settings to get around this problem. It doesn't require touching registry settings or other complicated steps:
Remote Desktop Authentication Error Has Occurred. The function requested is not supported. CredSSP
Would appreciate any insight on handling this across an enterprise without manually modifying the connecting and host machines. Thanks.

I did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate about a month ago and now when I try to remote into some non-Window computers, I get the following error: Remote Desktop Authentication Error Has Occurred. The function requested is not supported.
I searched Google and the majority of answers was to do the following:
Run:
gpedit.msc
Go to
Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Credentials Delegation -> Encryption Oracle Remediation
Open - Encryption Oracle Remediation
- >
choose Enable  - >change
protection level Vulnerable - >
Apply
I rebooted the computer to make sure the changes took place.
This did not work for me.
In the Registry Editor I see that
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\CredSSP\Parameters - > AllowEncryptionOracle - > Value Data 2
is already set.As a last resort, I tried a different Windows 7 computer and it was able to connect to the non-Windows computer without any issue.

I suggest updating chipset driver. If it's an OEM computer, please download it from the computer manufacturer's website.
In addition, according to my search, some users resolved this issue by stopping the TI External Event Utility service. Please load services by clicking the Start button, typing Services.msc and pressing Enter. Find out that service, double click it and click

Message: %1 (%2) %3Database recovery/restore failed with unexpected error %4.

Explanation
The ESENT storage engine could not automatically recover data when the system stopped responding or the power failed. As a result, database data is now unavailable.

Typically, this error occurs because an anti-virus program is actively scanning ESENT files.
User Action
Do one or all of the following:

Verify that anti-virus software is not actively scanning ESENT files.
Restart the database program to see whether the error occurs again. If it does, and a database backup is available, restore the database data from the backup. Otherwise run a program-specific utility, such as Esentutl.exe or Ntdsutil.exe, to repair the data.

Can anyone deciper this message I get in the event viewer. On this computer I just bought the shutdown takes about four minutes. THe only way I can shut down in the normal length of time is to remove my antivirus program. I had AVG so I installed Avira hoping this would not produce the error. Oh but no I still get the error.

Was this an upgrade from Vista?

If you open Task Manager, do you show iphlpsvc as a service, and is it running?

It seems strange this was one of the items that might cause an install of Win 7 to stall.

Since 12/8/12 Event Viewer has been posting a warning:

Event ID 219, Task Category 212

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN (followed by name of USB device)

It only occurs after I turn on the PC and the PC has completely booted into Windows 7 I then plug a USB stick into a USB port. It will do this on different ports. Even though an error has been logged the USB stick works fine.

After event viewer logs the first error code I can plug a different USB stick in and Event Viewer does not log any additional error codes after I plug more USB sticks in.

I can eject the original USB stick that caused the error code and plug it in again after the error code was logged the first time and event viewer will not log another code.

Any thing a google search produces does not relate to what I am seeing expect another thread on this site. I thought that I would post this in a different forum on this site to see if I can get some responses. The other poster did not get any other than one I made.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get EV to stop logging this error message for the first USB stick I plug in everyday?

Hi TonyB,

I do not have this issue because I did a clean install of 8.1; however, I did google your issue and it appears that many are having the same issue after going through the upgrade to 8.1 process. With tha said, I did find this fix that appears to have worked for some but not all and I am only (hesitantly) providing this link for your reference and consideration:

If you decide to try the above, please make sure you do so with due diligence. Good luck.

A:Event Viewer Error Please Help

Well, if you look a little later on in event viewer you should see that the lxdqCATSCustConnectService connects later on.

If you're really concerned about it, download a fresh copy of the software for your Lexmark printer from the Lexmark website.
Then uninstall the current version on your system and install the freshly downloaded copy.

Hi all, this is my 1st post at this site, hope some1 can help me

Anyway i have an error in event viewer that pops up everytime i have a freeze (sometimes a reboot is required)

Its the Kerberos athentication error, i know MS says ignore it, however whenever i have a freeze its the only error to pop up in event viewer.

Now i run Home Premium 64Bit and am not connected to a domain so i really dont need this security package trying to do its thing do i?

How can i stop it as i feel it may solve my freezing prob? i've heard you can through Gpedit.msc however home premium doesn't have this snap in. Is there some 3rd party tweaking tool that'll let me shut kerberos off to see what happens?

Thanks a lot for your time

Matt

A:Error in Event Viewer

Welcome to the forums!

First, maybe start off by giving a little more detail about what the error in your event viewer is. If you have to copy and paste it in there, go ahead. What are you normally doing when this freezes? What happens when it freezes? Auto reboot, or forcefully shut it down?

Post what you can so we can help.

Thanks

I hope I am in the right forum for this question.
