Factory restore win8 not working

Q: Factory restore win8 not working

Not sure what happened but I want to factory restore windows 8, but when I go to change pc settings it just goes back to start page.

Preferred Solution: Factory restore win8 not working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello people.

I'm new to this so please bear with me.
Okay so I'll give a brief explanation of what's going on.
So a couple of years ago I gave my old computer(HP Pavillion p2 Series /with Windows 7 home) to my younger siblings, because I moved and got a new computer for school. I put a secure Anti-Virus on the computer when I had it and never had a problem with it, but knowing my family they some how got it swarming with Viruses and Spyware...

My first option was to restore it to a date when I still had it, but it would only give me about 5 days ago with checking the "Show more dates" which I have never seen before. Now I know the "basics" of getting a virus off a computer, but if you guys saw this thing..
After that failed I was going to just try and simply delete everything on the computer with a Factory Default Restore. After getting into the System Recovery page, I tried to do the step by step thing it asked. I don't care to much about saving anything on it. (besides Windows of course) And it led to an option with deleting everything and restoring to a image or something? I've never heard of that but then again I'm not experienced with Windows or Computers in general. So I tried that and it was about to start it when an "error 0xe0ef000d" came up, pretty much saying it doesn't have an image to restore to.

With not having any disc's that the computer came with, I am wondering if the option of Restoring to Factory Default is still valid f... Read more

That error means it cannot create a directory or one it is looking for does not exist, sounds like it is having problems writing or reading to the hard drive.

Did you run the extended hard drive tests?

Is it a seagate or western digital disk? How old is pc? Was it shipped with vista or win7?

I woke up yesterday morning and I turned on my computer and it told me that I had to do a start up repair. The repair said it wasn't able to fix the problem, so I tried a system restore from an earlier point. I then tried a factory restore, but when I finished everything was really big and blurry (looked like what it looks like in safe mode). I also couldn't open some programs or connect to the Internet. I don't have a recovery CD with me now, but there is a 50/50 chance I still will have mine when I get home in a week.

I don't care about saving documents anymore, I just want my computer to work like when it came out of the box.

I have a HP Pavilion dv5 laptop and I just replaced the hard drive because it would not allow me to do and update to get the latest version of Windows Life Messenger. It required the Windows Platform update and after being downloaded, it would undo the installation at start up, saying it did not install correctly and was rolling over the installation. I tried several times and nothing happens. So, I put the factory restore DVD?s. It seemed fined until the computer start looping to the black screen with the options: Start Windows Normally, Start in Safe Mode, Last Good Knows Configuration and so on. Every option I choose it looked like it was going to work and them I got the famous Blue Screen of Death. With that, I got to the conclusion that the hard drive was dead, so I replace it and again I used the factory DVD?s to restore to factory settings. After all was done I started to put my softwares back one by one and Trend Micro Security asked for a Vista Security Pack 2. I tried to go to Start>Windows Update and nothing happened; the windows explorer froze and stopped responding. So, I got it manually installed and it did successfully, however I still cannot upgrade anything else. Every time I click Start>Windows Update it freezes and stops responding. I will not work at all.
Doing a System restore will not do anything I suppose since everything is blank, no restore point only before installing Vista SP2, and by that time Windows Update did not work as well. I ... Read more

A:Trying to restore Dell to factory settings, but F8 not working

Hi dave0549jv,

If your system boots to 'Windows', you may still create the 'recovery media' yourself. Please have a look at this video for details: Video Support Center
You may also want to refer to the following 'web article': http://dell.to/RgKnOi
You may further use this 'media' to 'restore' the system to 'factory defaults'. (Note: Backup all personal data; 'factory restore' leads to data loss)

Would also suggest you to 'release static power' and attempt to access the 'Advanced recovery options' again (Tap F8 key repeatedly). To release 'static power', unplug all peripherals, power cables and battery (if laptop); push and hold down the 'power button' for 10 seconds continuously.

If you are unable to enter 'Windows', please share the 'make/model' of the computer. Would also like to know more about the 'issues' that you are facing.

Do reply with the findings; would be glad to assist.

Did a factory restore of my laptop today, Lenovo Y410p running Windows 8, 64-bit. Updated all my drivers first. Installed Chrome, the latest version. My extensions are constantly crashing. Loading pages takes a long time, some pages don't even load at all, and most of the time I have to hit enter repeatedly in the address bar for a site to load up. There is no issue with my internet, that is fine. Opening a new tab or new page usually gives me the "He's dead, Jim!" crash screen, which I have to refresh many times until the page finally loads. I don't understand what is wrong, I did a full restore and properly installed the latest version of chrome, what could be the issue?

A:Chrome not working properly after factory restore.

Seems like there is something left after the restore that is causing it. I'd use RevoUninstaller with advanced mode to completely uninstall Chrome, and then run CCleaner afterwards. Then try installing Chrome again. I had a similar issues, and this process fixed it.

So, I'm trying to reformat my Toshiba laptop to factory disk but now it seems my cd rom drive is not working all of a sudden. Actually, today when I started cpu it said BOOTMGR not found hit ctrl+alt+delete! So frustrating don't know what to do. I have factory discs. The reason why i wanted to format in the first place was because vista just became very unstable and hung forever. Couldn't even open programs. Cdrom worked before then i went to finally restore it and cdrom drive not working. Please help with any suggestions. Thanks so much!

A:Trying to restore to factory but cd drive not working and BOOTMGR not found??

It's possible your optical drive is good. What it sounds like is happening is that the computer is trying to boot to the HD 1st, and failing, and for some reason it is not booting to the optical (CD/DVD) drive. Check "Boot Order" in BIOS and make certain that the optical drive appears 1st, before the HD.

Otherwise, boot sequence will skip the optical drive if it does not see bootable media in the drive, i.e. a good, bootable CD or DVD. Make certain your factory restore disk is good & bootable, and/or try to boot the machine with a different, known-good bootable disk.

My laptop originally came with Windows and then I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I have never had Windows 10. I have also never done any kind of reformatting hard drives or partitions or anything of that sort. @jesusalvarez Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!Ordinarily, I would recommend using HP Recovery Media to restore your PC to its original condition. That would erase the entire drive, format the drive, and install the OS, the drivers, and the HP utilities.Unfortunately, there is no HP Recovery Media linked to the HP Product Page for your PC. This could be an oversight by HP, or it could also mean that HP no longer stocks the recovery media for your PC. I just did a factory reset using the HP Recovery Manager (which takes you to the Windows Recovery Environment, from where you do a Reset). Then I noticed the Windows version info on the desktop, and checking Control Panel / System verified that Windows is not activated. Details claimed that the product key has been blocked. I then used a utility to read the product key from the motherboard. It matched the partial key windows reported, but I put it in in its entirety as a new key and ran activation, but again it failed, for the same reason. The utility also listed an "original" product key, whatever that is, but that too failed, again for the same reason. I tried updating the BIOS, thinking that might be the problem, but it did nothing. I also spent time on the phone with MS, but after verifying the key is blocked, they said this is an HP problem. Currently I'm stuck with a unit that will not activate Win8. Very strange. Evidently I'm not the only one this has happened to. There must be a solution, right? Please help. Thank you. BTW, the windows error code is 0xC004C003

I set up a new, out-of-box Gateway G530 and turned it on. Before it booted all the way, I decided to re-arrange the cables, so I turned it off. It was at the initial configuration screen at that point. When I rebooted, I got a screen advising me that Windows had experienced an error, and I could Refresh or Restore the computer. I elected to Refresh. Following the Refresh, a user login displayed. Inasmuch as I set up no user accounts, I decided to attempt logging in as Administrator. I tried several password variations (blank, Administrator, Admin), but none worked. Sometimes, I get a message that I have been locked out.

The computer does not ship with any disks. I don't have any Win8 disks (though I do have a Win7 OEM CD).

Any suggestions for getting around this impasse?

In a few days I will receive a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with Win8 installed. And separately I will receive an OEM Win7. Win7 is certainly what I intend to use, and I had originally thought I would wipe out Win8 and install Win7. But now I am wondering if I can somehow preserve Win8 for occasional use. (I would have ordered the machine with Win7 but this is a refurbished machine.)

Is there guidance on this anywhere? Some of the threads I've found seem to be particular to specific manufacturers. And some get into some very low level stuff. I would rather not have to understand UEFI. (I'm sure it would be interesting, I just have other things to do with my time.) And, although I do it sometimes, and will if I have to, I do not like diddling with BIOS settings.

I know that factory installed operating systems generally can't be moved to other machines. And I fear that the factory installed Win8 that I will receive may not even tolerate being installed, e.g., in a smaller partition or under something like VMware (another complication I'd like to avoid).

I'll be looking into VMware because I know it's a very flexible solution. But in this situation I value simplicity over flexibility.

Thanks, Bob

So on my 3-week old Dell XPS 13 Gold edition, I went to start it up today and Windows would not boot - a file "winload.efi" is missing.Startup repair wouldn't fix.
All PC diagnostics done from the BIOS say that everything passed.
When I first purchased the PC, I immediately made a USB recovery media using the built-in using the instructions here:

I am pressing F12 on startup and selecting the USB drive as the boot device. I select the "US" keyboard layout, then I try to "Recover from a Drive". I immediately get a message stating "Unable to recover".

So I try to do a "Factory Image Restore". A Dell window pops up briefly stating "Updating Files", then gives me the error "No Factory Image Found".
*sigh* Is there anything else I can do, apart from paying DELL for recovery media? I REALLY don't want to do that, seeing as the PC is only 3 weeks old, has already had WiFI & Bluetooth issues, and cost over a THOUSAND dollars........................

Need help with a strange problem, with which I do not see a normal way to fix, after a successful recovery from the factory backup, after using Onekey Recovery. Not so long ago Yoga stop boot in the operating system (Windows 8) and there was only one way, use OneKey Recovery to restore everything back.  After the successful restoration from hidden factory partition, Lenovo Yoga refuse to boot into OS and constantly booting into OneKey Recovery, without using OneKey button. When you push Power button Lenovo logo pop on screen, than loading bar appear on bottom and after it load OneKey Recovery screen. I try use options from OneKey screen, like Boot Option, it bring nothings there , just empty blue screen. It going in loop no matter what option I try use..  Still same OneKey screen on start, what asking me to Reset or use Backup image. I did factory reset several times already, with successful confirmation, no fix done yet..  Is there a known problem or way to stop boot OneKey Recovery in loop? All BIOS setting in factory default, and searching on WEB bring nothings useful. There a lot similar problems with some type of variation but recommendations seems not apply on my situation. I getting sick of that.. and absolutely no idea what can be done else. Please, I need direct response from Lenovo tech support or someone who has same and was able to fix. Your system spec say it's a home built machine. Do you want to re-install Vista? If you want a clean install of Vista or Windows 7 just slap that disk in and format and re-install. That will be "factory"....your factory from when you built it.

Here is the background. Had a Dell Workstation that had Win7 on one SSD drive (Drive 0 Boot). Added another new SSD drive (not the boot drive) and installed Win8 (MVL RTM) under a dual boot. All was fine having the Win8 Boot Mgmr.

The Win7 Drive fails so we install another new SSD in its Drive 0 (boot) location. Staff wanted to try using an custom image to reload Win7 so they unplugged the Win8 drive to ensure it did not overwrite or install their. As you can image we have a single booting Win7 and no Win8. We switched the Win8 drive in the Bios to be the Boot drive and booted into a Win8 reovovery which fixed the Win8 and Win7 bootloader to see both. But it is the older Win7 Boot loader.

Can we get the newer GUI Win8 Bootloader back?

We tried bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy standardt but it did not complete.

Thanks for any help.

Hi all,

I'd be really grateful if someone could help out a bit of a novice here..I'd love to avoid having to shell out another ?50 to a repair guy and am determined to fix this myself this time!!

I have a Packard Bell laptop that came with Windows 7, which I then upgraded to Windows 8 as I was offered a discounted upgrade by MicroSoft about 2 years ago when W8 launched.

My system seemed to be screwed recently so decided to store my important files and then opt for a full system re-set on windows 8. This got so far then failed after about 5 hours of processing.

When I switch on my machine now, the only viable option is to reset my pc and it asks me for my windows installation or recovery media. (Hope the screenshot attachment shows this)

Microsoft have been USELESS and cannot find any record of my paying for the windows 8 update so cant help me. All I have is the windows 7 product key on the bottom of my laptop. I do not have any CD back up discs etc.

My question is : how can I re-install windows 7 using this product key from the screen shot below??

If you did not create recovery media when you got the computer you may acquire them through Packard Bell;
Packard Bell Recovery Media

It would be useless to use their recovery partition as it probably is corrupted after the upgrade but if you wish to try, see here:

Is it possible that there is a error in this recovery partition from the factory? Have never had something like this happen recovering other system. Have contacted Dell but they are still thinking!!   Any Ideas?

From what i read you were able to restore? If everything is ok now it should be fine, but just in case i would manually make some recovery discs for your system so that if you needed to restore ever again, you will always have those to use instead of your recovery partition. The recovery partition can very easily become corrupted, having those created discs will make sure you always have a path back to the factory state

I've installed Win8 from ISO file, the problem is I didn't mount this image or burn on DVD but simply unpacked with 7zip. The result - win8 is installed on my primary Win7 partition (C:\) and my Win7 folders are moved to Windows.old folder. Is there any way to restore the Win7 ?
I found some instruction about Vista on How to restore a computer to a previous Windows installation after you install Windows Vista but in Win7 there are more folders saved and the bootsector has probably different name.
Could anyone please help me with that ?

Hello Lbajon, and welcome to Eight Forums.

First, be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe. Next, you might see if you may be able to use the tutorial below to restore Windows 7 from the Windows.old folder. Just be sure to follow it exactly as is, and select the correct options for Windows 7 .

When trying to install Visio 2013, a Windows 8 installation automatically started; telling me not to shutdown my computer. Thus my own automatic reaction of pulling the plug.
Unfortunately, some aspects of Win7 appear to be broken, including the spell check, macro functions (ie. can't load normal.dotm or normal.docm), and Outlook functionality.
I would like, dearly, to recover these settings. I do not, upon any circumstances, wish to have to upgrade.

I messed up my windows 8.1 pro theme and settings. Windows Title bar text is gone instead there's white blurry box as caption. And under folder option>view>always show menus, if the box checked or not menubar always stays visible.

The things i did to get in this position took few days and i don't know when the problem started but my guess is win7 transformation pack. Please check the steps below,

First i installed UltraUXThemePatcher_2.5.11, Aero Glass - Win8.1 - 1.3.1, and couple of custom themes, It was working perfectly for days.
Then i tried 7tsp_GUI_v0.4_B(2015) for icons but instead i used a transformation pack of windows 7, but restored it.
Title bar got messed up then i tried UXTheme Multi-Patcher 13.1, UxStyle to fix but ended up unistalling/reinstalling all of these multiple times from scratch, I also use OldNewExplorer v1.1.5.1, Shell32_Patch_Setup_v1.6 since windows installation but again reinstalled because of this mess. Then the menubar problem occured, stays always visible.

I was unable to find the solution online, tried couple of command in cmd > sfcscan, dism etc but no luck.
I tried opening local admin account and it's fine there, no messed up title bar and no menubar. Sure i can move to there but it feels a bit hassle to change every settings of windows and hundreds of softwares again.
I want to continue in my current user profile without reset everything.
So, is there any solution to reset just the theme portion of the window... Read more

A:How to restore default settings of Win8.1 title & menubar?

Finally i figured it on my own
For future reference the solution was,
OldNewExplorer v1.1.5.1 was responsible for frozen menubar now uninstalled &
Titlebar text may be the font was blank or removed by some theme,
used following registry code to revive the caption,

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics]

I've tried to install the Win 8.1 Update via the Windows Store and got the 0xc1900101 - 0x30018 several times after the PC restarted at the ending of the update.

I know that several users solved this with disabling drivers, so I did some suggestions I've found.

1. Disabling AV (Kaspersky)

2. Disabling LAN Controllers

3. Uninstalling DAEMON Tools, TuneUp

--> DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

--> sfc /scannow

--> wsreset.exe

5. Trying to repair Windows Update itself via "WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab"

6. Disabling AIDA

7. Disabling all components from my ASUS motherboard

some other things I can't remember...

For your information, I don't want to install Windows 8.1 from scratch, as I have too many programs and I never had problems with installing an OS for this system (Win7, Win8).

Thanks for the help

Will anyone be able to tell me how to do a factory restore on a Time PC. Thanx in advance

hey guys quick question, does anybody know how long a factory restore take? windows 7 home premium 64-bit

A:factory restore

It will depend on your hardware and how much crapware is on your factory image, but you can count on 20-30 minutes is my best guess.

Is there any other way you can get out of it? Maybe a system restore, or image recovery? If not, good luck.

I've run into some issues recently, regarding my PC's performance, that disc cleanups, defragments, virus scans, removing programs, and regular system restores just won't help with.
I believe I've obtained a virus, though I'm not sure how. My notebook is roughly nine years old, so slow boot-ups and connections are expected, however, recently I've been able to get it running smoothly and efficiently for basic internet uses, such as e-mail and social networking. This virus that I may or may not have has slowed down my already sluggish machine, and upped CPU usage, as well as interfered with basic internet tools such as security algorithms and certificates. It has also disallowed me to follow hyperlinks, be it from Google or another source, and instead brings me to random pages and advertisements that do not allow me to easily close.
The gist of this long passage is that I wish to perform a factory reset on the machine, but, seeing as though the notebook came with XP Professional already installed, I do not have an installation disc. Is it still possible, and if so, how is it done?
Thanks in advance!
