I have the typical problem of -
-when I start windows live mail (v2009 final version) it said this :
Windows Live Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Live Mail message store. Windows Live Mail was unable to locate it`s message database. If you`ve moved the database filesto a new location.clik OK to resetthe database path to that location. Otherwise, click Cancel to proceed, any existing messages found will be avaible under Orphaned Accounts. (0x000000000, 2)
-if I click OK it said :
Windows Live Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Live Mail message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. (0x80070002)

Please help me back up my email!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello leinaday & welcome to Vista Forums.
If your Anti Virus Program has an email scanning component turn it off to see if that makes a difference.
BTW What Anti Virus are you using?
Another thing to try - right click on your Windows Live Mail shortcut on your Desktop - select "Run as Administrator" - click on "Continue " if User Account Control requests it.
Hope that helps.

When I import messages from Windows Live Mail into Windows Live Mail, I proceed as follows:

- In Windows Live Mail I select Import messages, then Windows Live Mail and then finally I browse and select the location. Eventually I get a screen saying: Importing message ... of ... messages.

- When I check later in the Storage folder. I cannot find all the messages. During import it says that it is importing for example 21 files but when I check the Storage folder only 3 files are displayed.

I tried to transfer my mails (outlook express) from my old computer XP to the new one W7, where I installed WLM for the email service. I followed the procedure:Copied the Microsoft Otlook folder with the .dbx files to the new computer
Used the import function in WLM to import the messages
Everything seems working. The imported folder in WLM is created, but unfortunately with no messages in it.
Can someone explain the cause of the problem and suggest a solution
The HD of the old computer is re-formated, so I saved the .dbx files on an external HD

Hi,

I am currently replacing my old computer with a new one and part of that process is to transfer all of my email messages from my old computer to the new one. I use Windows Live Mail for my mail program. I went to the Microsoft web site and looked at the Help instructions for  Exporting and Importing messages and found it to be very straightforward.

I created an empty folder on USB drive and then proceeded to run the Export procedure. This involved selecting a destination folder for the exported files, and selecting which folders to include in the export operation. Under my primary email address, I have 10 subfolders, in addition to the usual Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, etc. On the screen where I was asked what format I wanted to use, I selected "Windows Live Mail Format" .On the screen where I am asked which folders that I wanted to Export I selected "All Folders". Then I clicked Next and received a message that the folders had been exported successfully.

I then took the USB drive to the new computer, started Windows Live Mail and then attempted to do the Import operation. I chose to import all folders and then initiated the Import. I got a message that the Import was successful. At the bottom of the account list was a folder that was titled Imported Folders. When I opened it, the only thing that was shown was the Inbox and Deleted Items subfolder, and also the Outbox folder. None of the other folders that I chose to back up were there. Als... Read more

Hi Tech Guys,

I had a computer crash a few weeks ago (Compaq laptop-Vista operating system/Windows Mail) and whilst my laptop has been in the shop I had to buy a Notepad so that I can actually carry on working....I now have Windows Live Mail and have 4 questions, hopefully related to each other.

1. I want to save/back-up my e-mail and folders.....I found the file location (path) of my e-mails....
C:\Users\my name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail and I just did a straightforward "select all" and copy and pasted onto my external hard drive. Is that sufficient to ensure my e-mails are saved and backed up?

2. I also want to say at this stage that the format these e-mails are in are .eml but I can't see any .dbx extensions-which files are meant to be .dbx? I am bit concerned that I don't see any folders/files related to my e-mails/contacts with .dbx extensions or perhaps I just can't see the extensions easily?

3. I have created a number of folders.....two of my folders are Apatients and Aprivate work.

I put the "A" in front of the folder name so that they are at the top of my folder list (most mail programmes arrange folders alphabetically) and whilst these two are my most frequently used folders, I put an "A" in front of them so that they appear up top.

However, strangely, when I viewed them in the folder on my hard drive (where they are saved), the "A" seems to have been dropped. So, for example, I have 5 or ... Read more

Is there a way to back up e-mail using Windows Live Mail? If so, what are the files like? How do you back up e-mail and move it from one computer to another? I am furious at Microsoft's announcement that connecting Hotmail to Outlook Express will no longer be supported after June 30, 2008. I've been paying for the privilege. I'm looking for new options. Is there a way to back up signatures in Windows Live Mail 2009 so I don't have to type each one again after a computer format? I have hundreds of them, so it would be quite time-consuming. Thank you.

A:Backing Up Signatures in Windows Live Mail 2009

Hello JB11,

I believe that it's the same as below in Windows Live Mail 2011. where you can go to the registry location below, right click on signatures, click on Export, save the REG file to your desktop, then move the REG file to where you like as a backup of the signatures.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\signatures
To restore the signatures, you would just need to have Windows Live Mail installed first, then double click on the REG file to approve and merge it.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I upgraded my wife's computer from Vista to Windows 7 yesterday. Before starting the process I copied old Vista info to a second drive. I did not realize that Windows 7 did not utilize Windows Mail before starting the upgrade process (dummy me!).
In proceeding through the Dell provided upgrade disks, I selected Upgrade as my option.
Now, I am not able to Import my old Windows Messages into Windows Live Mail. The upgrade process created a folder called Windows.old and I have my separately saved Vista info on my other drive. My question is if the old Windows Mail messages are there specifically what folder do they reside in either of the two (or both) locations, and how do I get them into my Live Mail history.
Seems like there should be a way to do this, but it is not as simple as the canned instructions for importing e-mail.
Thanks for any help because I sure would like to obtain this history.

I use GOOGLE MAIL on my PC and on my iphone.

Before I upgraded to Windows Vista and Windows Live Mail I used Outlook Express and everything worked just great.

Thanks to the IMAP settings on both devices, I sent a message on my iphone and it appeared in the Sent Messages folder on my iphone and my PC, and when I sent a message on my PC it appeared in the Sent Messages folder on my PC and my iphone.

With Windows Live Mail that no longer works. Messages sent from my PC go in to the Sent Items folder in the Storage Area (local folders on the PC).

I have checked the obvious and the "Save a copy of sent messages in the Sent Items folder" option is checked.

The problem seems to revolve around the IMAP settings in the properties tab.

In Outlook Express it was possible to set the Sent Mail folder to "Sent Mail". In Windows Live Mail even if I can manage to type this in to the field (sometimes the program allows the field to be edited, sometimes it does not) and insert "Sent Message" the system ignores this and puts two copies of the message in my "[Google Mail]/All Mail" folder. In addition, when I go back in to the screen to check the settings, the entries I made have disappeared and have reverted to "[Google Mail]/Sent Mail".

Please help! It is driving me nuts!

On instruction from my ISP I deleted my windows live mail email account to try to overcome a repetitive issue of having to re-enter my password each time I hit sent/receive mail. When I went to tools/accounts and hit remove, all of my emails disappeared.

I have been through the process of trying to import them back into windows live mail, I have uninstalled/reinstalled, deleted the windows live mail folder (having kept a copy on an external drive) and have tried a variety of imports to no avail.

I even installed Outlook 2007 and tried an import and even an export to Outlook 2007 direct from Windows Live Mail. Although there has been some progress in respect of seeing an export/import happen (i.e the emails are counted) and folders appearing in Outlook in the left hand side, there are no messages evident within the folders. I have even managed to appear to import them back into WLM but although the folders appear in the left column the messages are not there.

I did not export the messages prior to the account removal and adding back in WLM, which I suppose I should have done, but I have not deleted the WLM folder in user/.../application data/local/Microsoft, so they are still there but not visible. New mail has now been added from the server to further complicate issues.

Is there a way to get all of my mail back to how it was? I appreciate that numerous folder appear in the left hand side as storage folders with some unknown names.

This driving me insane - d/l and installed the Windows Live pack as no email client inbuilt in Win7. Installed fine - then imported messages from Outlook Express 6 - no problems.
But.. then if I view an email, the message count goes down by one and the damn email DISAPPEARS completely. It's completely gone - played with all the ridiculous View settings but nope nothing.
In fact, if you leave the thing sitting there all the 'Unread' emails also disappear, you don't even have to open them.
Gee, what a great program this is...
If I could import into Thunderbird from the saved folder I would - but of course, you can't - so now I'm stuck with using the Gmail account online until I can work this ridiculous problem out....
As you can tell I'm frustrated, but this M$ 'bug' is beyond belief!

A:Windows 7 Live Mail - messages disappear

Your problem appears to be a quirk of the Windows Live email program. This is quite late posting to your Oct 09 question, but I am here looking for a solution to my problem and found yours. Those messages are not disappearing when you look at them in the "unread e-mail pane. They are in the in-box of the various email accounts you have brought into the Windows Live email client.

Now, after reinstalling everything - nothing new that wasn't on there before, I'm getting this issue that when my Windows Live Mail program downloads a Facebook message, and I click on the message - my Windows Live Mail stops working (crashes) - says it has to shut down and is looking for a solution to the problem and then it restarts. I've asked on MicroSoft answers for help - but they just tell me to put a rule on to send those emails to a new folder - but as I've told them - they are HTML emails - and rules don't work on those....

Just to be clear - Windows Live Mail does NOT crash when I open ANY other emails - it's only FACEBOOK emails....

Can anyone help please? After having my PC repaired, I've restored my Windows Live Mail accounts and contacts, that I backed up onto an external with Windows 7 Backup and Restore. I have also managed to get some old messages back into my system that were in the storefolder before the machine was sent away, by going to C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail.

However, those newer mails that were in the inboxes have not materialised. As well as backing them up with the Win 7 Backup and Restore feature, I also made a separate backup of these, copying the store folder (in the same way I used to with Outlook Express) and saving it to my external hard drive. I've tried to import the files from this backup too, but it whizzes through in a couple of seconds and says the import is complete, yet the folders of this second backup appear empty and none of the mails are in the storage folder when I search for a name or subject. Does anyone have any idea where these newer messages might have gone to and how I can get them back into WLM please?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm hoping someone has a suggestion to solving my problem.

WLM crashed this afternoon. When I opened it up again, it recoverd the folders and messages in the Storage folder, but when I try to view or read the messages they actually link to one of only three messages. Messages in the top 3 folders link to one, the next two to another, and the rest to another.

The Message List looks fine, with the subject and sender showing correctly. It's just that I can't read the messages.

Any suggestions?

A:import email messages from outlook into windows live mail

I wish I knew what to advise you on this topic, but I also find myself in the same position. I recently purchased this new laptop, with windows 7 installed on it. I also decided to upgrade my Microsoft Office from the 2000 version, to the Student/Office 2010. Several hours after roaming through the Office program went by, and then I noticed that Outlook Express is not included with that program, but can be purchased for an additional $149.00

Windows Live setup didn't go well either. I tried to run the wizard, and set up an email account, but I never could get the sign-on to acknowledge the password for the windows live, or the email account/s Gmail, or others that it stated would import all contacts from the old account (Outlook Express).
I'm not using Windows Live becuse of this, but to be more honest, i'm not really sure what the importance of the program is, other than using it for Video email of sort. I just let it stay closed, and go on without Windows Live right now.

Hope everything works out for you, and maybe we can both benefit from any responses on this topic.

Have a great day,

For some reason I was unable to send or receive emails for one account and then for no apparent reason it worked and now I can't send or receive them for another account that was previously working (again for no apparent reason). I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas on what might be going on? The error message is as follows:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail.co (MyEmailName) account. To send and receive messages in your Hotmail account, go to http://hotmail.live.com on the Web, or try again later. To get help from Windows Live Customer Support, go to http://support.live.com and click Windows Live Mail in the list of services.

Using Windows 7 and attempting to import mail from Outlook Express. The following message appears:
No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open.
Please select another folder or try closing applications that may have files open.Click to expand...

Read-only and hidden attributes have been removed from the containing folder and its contents as well as every other folder in the path..

I have researched this and Googled up many sites that deal with the problem when this message appears, including Microsoft's official approach to this problem. None of the solutions I have found work for me and as far as I have researched, no one has ever reported a successful solution.

A:Windows Live Mail cannot import Outlook Express messages

Solved.

I went back to the source machine, deleted folders.dbx, reran Outlook Express so as to recreate folders.dbx, copied the newly-created folders.dbx to the destination machine and import went smoothly except it reported it could not import some of the mails in InBox; but, that isn't a problem.

My guess is that folders.dbx got corrupted in the transfer of the Outlook Express Mail containing folder to the destination machine.

how can I do this?

all forwarded messages are yellow & hard to read

A:need to change color of forwarded messages in windows live mail

It sounds like you are sending HTML emails, you can try switching to Plain text. I don't use WLM myself, but apparently you go to Options> Send and choose Mail sending format as Plain text. See if that helps. A Guy

I'm using Windows7 & Windows Live Mail version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.0726).

I hear the chime that new mail has arrived & see the number of unread messages increase, but the messages themselves are not shown. I have to click on another box (junk, drafts, sent, etc) and then click back on Inbox to see the messages. This happens when I 1st open Windows Live Mail (inbox) & also if I've left it open while I do something else (internet, word, excel, etc). Previously, new messages appeared immediately, when they were received.

Actually, this might also happen with junk (spam), but I almost always leave Live Mail "sitting" in the inbox.

How do I get new messages to appear immediately, when they were received?

Some emails from safe sources (e.g. my subscription to the Washington Post) appear in my inbox with no subject and the contents are garbage.

I can open the email on my IP's website but not in any of my two computers using Windows Live Mail.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS WINDOWS LIVE -------- NOT HOTMAIL.
Can this be fixed???

To read html email in any email program (including WLM) make sure the Read tab of options is set to use html by UNchecking "read in plain text".

As mentioned in the title, I have this problem with my windows live mail 2011.

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail ([email protected]) account.

Server Error: 5102
Server: 'https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE00002

I have been using WLM for quite some time and my hotmail account is configured in it and approx 2GB+ of my local HDD space has been piled up in it in all previous mails etc stuff.

Occasionally my WLM 2011 did gave me similar synchronization fails but I was ok after trying little tricks ( found on searching net) like closing and re-opening WLM any times, like making IE default browser and resetting its all setting to default( even though already default) then launching WLM and many other similars.

Perhaps after WLM updated recently, it is not synching with my emails and no such above trick is working. I am stuck up. ( my hotmail account on web is working finen
Windows LIve mail 'Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308)' is showing up at the moment in WLM.

By searching on net recently feels to me like I am not alone and many others have had same issue after the WLM update.

After reading several posts two common solutions available i-e either delete your email account in WLM and re configure it or your account need to be adjusted by somebody.
I am quite uncomfortable in deleting my account to reconfigure it, it has piled up and I do'nt want to start from scratch downloading eve... Read more

I have been trying without success to export Outlook express mail from an XP computer into Windows live Mail on a brand-new Windows 7 HP computer. I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. The directions I followed were to go to Outlook express, click on tools, options, maintenance, store folder. Then copy store location, go to start menu, click run. Then when the Outlook express folder opens with the DBX files, I copied the entire folder to a flash drive.
I have followed the directions on the Internet to copy the Outlook express mail folder onto a flash drive. I go into Windows live Mail import and follow the prompts. It acts like it is copying the DBX folders, however when it is finished there are no e-mails in the imported folder. I have tried over and over and have no luck. I have no idea where the e-mails are or if they are actually available. What am I doing incorrectly?
Please help with more detailed instructions. Thanks.
Rosanne

We recently changed our mail client from Verio to Liquid Web. After changing the settings in Account Properties, I am able to receive emails, but cannot send emails. From my Windows Live Mail end, it looks like the message was sent just fine, but when
I check the receiving email account, there is no message there.

A good friend of mine went ahead and updated from Win 7 to win 10 without backing up anything (despite my objections) and now has windows live mail but any of his old email messages are gone. I would suspect they are in the windows. Old folder in .app but not sure. Does windows 10 store the emails in the .app file like win 7?  I haven't gone over to help him yet. I am using Win 7 and will upgrade once I know that everything is working with 10.

Hi munybuny You should try to see if you can find anything under the folders listed in this article.http://www.pcworld.com/article/189238/win_live_mail_store.htmlIf they are really under the windows.old folder, it should be:C:\windows.old\Users\$USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
