Lenovo Edge 2 Won't Charge - Lenovo Support Not Helping!

Q: Lenovo Edge 2 Won't Charge - Lenovo Support Not Helping!

Good evening! I have a Lenovo Edge 2 that has been babied since purchased. Never abused, dropped, no scratches or dents, it's in fantastic condition still. I purchased the extended warranty, hoping I'd never need it.Last year, it stopped charging properly. The battery power dropped to 0%, and hasn't increased since. The machine will only power on when plugged in to AC power, and will immediately power down when the adapter is disconnected. The charging status indicator LED on the right side of the machine flashes orange in a non-steady, intermittent pattern, and the charging indicator in the taskbar in Windows 10 does the same thing. I returned the machine to Best Buy, they sent it to their "Geek Squad" facility for repairs, and the AC Adaptor and battery were replaced, under warranty. The machine was returned to me, and still doesn't charge.I contacted Lenovo, they advised I would need to return it to their facility for repairs. I put it in the provided box, and dropped it off to FedEx on 6/24/17. It's now been 2 weeks. I contacted Lenovo to inquire about the status of the repair, and was told "The technician found evidence of damage, and the upper case will need to be replaced as well, but damage isn't covered under warranty, so you'll need to cover the cost of the repair." I asked for the price, was told "A technician will email you with the price." I inquired about the status of the original repairs, they told me the claim was on hold, pending my review and response to their technician's emails. I've been trying to reach out to their technicians, and they have not (and will not) reply to my requests for a call-back or email to advise of the status. Lenovo has had my machine for 2 weeks now, and I can't get any assistance in resolving this issue. I'm about to leave for some training, and I need my computer. As in, if I don't have my machine back in the next couple of weeks, I'm going to be forced to purchase another laptop. Is there anyone here who can help me resolve this dispute with Lenovo? I have included a photo of my laptop, taken 6/24/17, immediately before placing the machine in the box and delivering it to FedEx. I have more photos, but I can only seem to get one to upload at a time. Do I have any options here? I don't want to buy another computer, but if I can't get to a resolution soon, I'm going to be forced into that situation. Any and all available assistance is appreciated. Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Using Windows 10 version 1511 and all updates.  Used the Lenovo System Update and everything has been updated.  I wanted to turn on the built-in camera on my Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 530, the F5 key, and it came up with a message saying, "This key combination opens the Lenovo Settings Program. You do not have the Lenovo Settings Program installed on your computer. To launch the program using this key combination, install the program first." I went and downloaded the Thinkpad Settings Dependency for Windows 10, restarted the laptop and it still doesn't work. Even the Lenovo System Update program has it and I also downloaded it.  I restarted the laptop again and it still doesn't work. I then went to install the Lenovo Settings App on the Windows store and it doesn't look like the right one plus it still didn't work. My other problem is with the Lenovo Companion App from the Windows Store.  It worked before but now it ask to "Please install or update the Lenovo System Interface Driver for full functionality of Companion, then restart the app after installation."  I have installed the Lenovo System Interface Driver multiple times and it still popped up that message.  Yes, I have restarted the laptop and Companion.   Is there a reason why these issues are happening and how to fix it?  Thank you in advance.

A few weeks ago I saw the Lenovo K430 on NewEgg while shopping for a new Desktop. I was amazed by the K430?s features and great looks. However, after doing some research I became very baffled about the Power Turbo Switch and the many horror stories about upgrading the graphics card. I called Lenovo Technical Support to talk about possibilities and get advice about the graphics card, a woman answered the phone and informed me she had no idea or information about graphics card; but she recommended I speak to Sales. I was transferred to sales and they too informed me that they knew nothing about the computer or graphics card. I decided to call B&H Photo, the name sounds deceiving but they really are the best with support. The Technical Support told me if I really wanted a great computer I should think about building my own. So today, I embarked on the journey to build my own computer and I want to say thank you to Lenovo. If it wasn?t for Lenovo's extremely bad Tech Support and Sales I would not have built my own computer. Lenovo you are so terrible and clueless, you have inspired me, you have driven me by showing me your lack of knowledge and sense of awareness, the idea that a company has a sales and tech department that knows absolutely nothing about their own product. Thank you Lenovo, you are simply the worse PC maker on the Planet! Thanks to you; today I have the most powerful computer I could ever imagined. The only Tech Support Leno provi... Read more

New Yoga 700-141SK: Ran the Lenovo Support Center Hardware Scan and the Video Card Mathematical Operations Test has failed rendering the Report: WVC007002-UL7BPL. Is there a tried and proven solution out there? I have had a look at the solutions on the forum and am not satisfied that the solutions offered prove that the problem has been resolved. It is reasonable to expect Lenovo to make available a solution as a matter of course instead of end-users of "afflicted" Lenovo devices having to request/search for a solution(s).

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hello Everyone,I have this very weird issue with my lenovo laptop and it just happened out of the blue. The laptop only charges when it's off. When it's on it does not do anything. I enabled an option from BIOS that allows me to hear a beep every time I plug in the charger and it seems that the laptop knows when I plug or unplug it. I removed the battery and tried to turn it on and it does not turn on. I also changed the power adapter (I bought a new one, just in case) and I formated the laptop installing ubuntu  16.04. I have searched the web and there are a few posts that give solutions using windows and power management options but that does not make any sense. The laptop is LENOVO G50-80Thank you very much in advance.

The product Lenovo edge 15, I purchased and just opening and closing it from laptop mode to tablet mode broke the surface part of the hinges. After that happened shortly after within a week or so, the whole computer stopped working. It will not turn on period, even with charge. Even though I barely used it. I went to basic training, came back and the warranty had expired for anything. I was going to college and paid my last few money I had to buy that computer only for it stop working, now I'm still a college student having to go to library just for use of a computer. I'm thoroughly upset at my situation and at the durability & design of the product. I would love to have a new one or to trade it in for my money back.

I bought a Yoga 700 and after a couple of months it stopped charging and wouldn't turn on. When pressing the power button the light flashed amber a couple of times but that was it. I returned it for repair and the repair notes said the BIOS had been upgraded and it was working again. Unfortunately the person performing the repair sliced the top of the laptop with what looks to have been a Stanley knife but they didn't say anything. I returned it and got a replacement. Now, a few weeks later I have exactly the same symptoms with the new Yoga 700. Is this a known problem with the 700 because it seems too much of a coincidence? I'm probably just going to ask for my money back unless someone can tell me a quick fix? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay so I have a 6 month old G51-35 Laptop that I've been using for gaming. Then earlier this morning when I was playing, the battery went down to 25%. I plugged it in and it didn't charge. I wondered why, and then I thought the power in the outlet was just not flowing so I'll just plug it into a different one later, and as soon as it hit 10% I panicked. I kept searching up solutions, but nothing popped up. So I then told my brother, by the time the laptop was at 1%, and he did some tests on the laptop. A couple hours later he told me that he doesn't know what the problem is, and so I started really freaking out. I searched up the prices for a new battery pack, but there wasn't anything for the g51-35. I then looked at the laptop prices, and it was a whole load of bull because the laptop itself cost $559. My parents would kill me if they found out, but I don't know what to do next. I think the laptop is overheated, but I don't have the tools to be able to clean it. Please help. Thanks.

Hi CheekyB and welcome to the community,

Does it run ok plugged in?  It is just not charging?

If it does, then it probably is a bad battery and there is a year warranty on the battery.

The other day when I went to use my laptop there was a pop that came from the charge socket, then the laptop would shutdown if the charger was plugged in. Then the next day the laptop said it was charging when plugged in but the battery continued to drain until it won't turn on anymore. I checked that the fuse hadn't blown in the charger and also opened up the laptop and couldn't see any burns near the charge socket.

So I was using my laptop last night while it was plugged in. Although it said it was charging, the battery level kept going down to the point it was on 0%. But while there, the laptop still ran for at least 15 minutes, then it died. I tried another outlet but it wouldn't charge and now I can't get on my computer. I tried the battery draining method hoping it would work but it didn't. Is my computer done for or is it able to be saved?

My Lenovo Y40-70 registers 100% charge left on the battery, but it will randomly shut off and/or go to 0% charge. It is under warranty, but I would like to be able to fix this myself. What is the issue? Is it simply a defective battery. (The Lenovo I have is 9 months old)

hi Patton370,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you download and run BatteryInfoView to get a rough info and status about the battery.
   - Sample image

If you see a wide gap between the Full Charged Capactity and the Designed Capacity then it's likely that one of the battery cells is wearing down (it maybe due to heat, daily use, and age). In this scenario, the battery cell(s) lose the charge capacity faster than others cells.

In addition, take a note of thee battery features:

Voltage tap Most consumer equipment treats a stack of cells as a single battery, but this can be dangerous in lithium ion. As the cells age, some will lose capacity faster than others -- and if one cell becomes flat before the others, it can actually start to charge in reverse, which is a highly dangerous condition. The internal circuitry of the battery pack thus has to monitor cells separately and shut down the whole pack if one cell is too far out of balance.

Battery charge state monitor Many lithium ion packs have a built-in meter consisting of a row of LEDs and a button. To accurately report the state of charge, the pack electronics has to keep a record of the current in and out of the cell, as well as a model of its behaviour. This can become more inaccurate over time; more modern cells will recalibrate themselves.

The false 100% charge that you're getting is possibly due to the inaccurate reading of the battery... Read more

Everything was fine, until I turned my computer on this morning and realized it wasn't storing power. After reading around on the internet I determined a few things. A) The battery itself is fine, I ran a battery report... and it shows a sudden drop from 97% to 0% to 2%, and then back to 100% in a matter of minutes. Battery Log   < Click to see my log B) I think the issue is primarily a software one, becuase when I disable microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in device manager my computer still runs for hours at 0% without being plugged in. Anyone else have this issue or know a solution? I'm a college student and I need this laptop to work on the fly for me. It's barely been over a year, and im already having issues.... someone help I can't afford a new lp!!!!

A:Lenovo Y40 Battery wont charge.

In response to customer reports of unexpected battery gauge behavior on Y40-70 and Y40-80 laptops, Lenovo determined the battery gauge software is performing as expected. The unusual gauge results being reported are a reflection of the battery reaching end of life.

Lenovo has released a Service TIP to assist customers with obtaining battery replacements under warranty, or if out of warranty, to find a replacement battery from Lenovo-approved vendors. The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-I0023

The part numbers for Y40-70/80 batteries are:
Y40 SP/A L13M4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500248
Y40 LG L13L4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500249 substitute part 121500251
Y40 CP/C L13C4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500259 substitute part 121500251

To determine which battery came with your Y40 notebook, instructions for removing the bottom cover can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual pdf here. An alternate to opening your system (which does not void warranty) is to search for batteries using the model/product number located on the bottom cover.

I've had my Ideapad y510p for about 2 years and recently the charger stopped working.  At first it just needed to be re-plugged in, then it needed to be plugged it at weird angles and held up to charge, then it had to be in the exact right position, with no motion.  Then it just stopped charging.   From what I've read it sounds like this may be a problem with the port, not the charger, but I've tried using a charger that fits my computer but isn't the right voltage/wattage (or w/e) and it will charge for a time, then stop, then continue to charge if I plug it into a new socket. I tested it by taking out the battery and turning it on: with the inappropriate charger, it'll still work, with the old charger, it won't turn on.   As far as I can tell, there's no physical damage to the charger, though it's possible it might have been dropped or mishandled when traveling with it.  I know for a fact I've dropped my computer several times, but I've never had charging problems immediate after, and all those instances were a good while back.   So is it more likely that my computer is the problem, or just the charger?  I still have the warranty on my laptop; if that's the problem, can I get it fixed?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Have you tried clearing the CMOS to see if it will help resolve the problem ?  Just follow this procedure.....

1. Unplug the charger / adapter. 2. Remove the battery. 3. Press and hold the Power Button for 15 seconds. 4. Re-install the battery, plug in the charger / adapter if needed and power up the system to see if the problem was resolved.

If that doesn't resolve the problem then I recommend you contact Lenovo Support for warranty service.

Hi all, I have a big problem. Some days ago, I was using my laptop while it was charging. Then, it suddenly turned off. I noticed that the battery light was red and blinking. I turned on my laptop and there wasn't any problem, it worked fine and the only strange thing was the battery icon, that showed around 7 %. It charged well and there wasn't any problem. At the next day it happened again, but when it was charging some hours later, the laptop turned off again. This problem kept happening this last days, but now when I charge the laptop, on the battery icon it says "connected but without charging". The first times this new issue happened it was solved by disconnecting and connecting the charger, but now it charges only by 3 or 5 seconds. Sometimes it works well but till around 60 %, where it start to doesn't charge. Can you help me?

Some information on my PC: Lenovo x250Windows 10Version 10.0.10586 Build 10586System Model - 20CMCTO1WWSystem Type - x64BIOS Version & Date - LENOVO N10ET33W (1.12), 4/6/2015Two batteries (Internal 3-cell battery & hot-swappable 6-cell rear battery) My laptop charges normally when it is shut down, charging up to 100% every time, but when it is turned on, it does not want to charge. I have tried the method presented in the following YouTube video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFGfAKj0xFM This method involves uninstalling my batteries under device manager, along with the AC adapter, rebooting my PC after, and then re-plugging my AC adapter in. I have tried this method several times, with different variations (shutting down instead of restarting, having the AC adapter plugged in when I am uninstalling the batteries, removing the external battery and only uninstalling the internal battery, etc. etc.) as well, all to no avail. Also, every time my computer boots up, I get a small window that says "Configuration system failed to initialize" with the header saying, "Another instance is running". Maybe this has something to do with the battery issue?A picture of this error is here: https://www.google.com/search?q=configuration+system+failed+to+initialize+windows+10&biw=765&bih=758... Thanks for the help!

I have already tried the solution in the other post but did not work. My laptop was working fine but then one day would not turn on or charge. The indicator light next to the power button never lights up now and neither the power or novo button work. I have tried holding the power while it was unplugged and charging but did not work.

Hey Lenovo Forum:

I'm having a battery charging problem that seems slightly different from any on this forum so far. I just acquired a T430 running Windows 7 (64-bit) like a charm. After a few issues with the audio drivers, everything has been running smoothly.

Abruptly, yesterday, when I plugged it into the wall socket (the same socket that it had sucessfully charged on earlier) it failed to charge. Thinking it was the outlet, I tested it. The outlet and adapter are both working fine (the adapter powers the computer no problem with the battery removed from the system). The lock switch on the battery is in the propper position (i've tried both). The battery is not overheated (it's cool to the touch). I tried removing everything and holding the power button (apparently that discharges some built up charge in the system) then reconnecting the battery and AC adapter, nothing.

I just downloaded the power manager which (when the laptop is, in fact, running off of AC power (the battery charge indicator hasn't draining in hours of continuous use) reads:
