I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good morning/afternoon/evening gentleman, wherever you are around the globe.

Today, after startup, Windows suggested to me, that I should export my encryption case to some external storage, just in case some bad things happen.

I was surprised, as I haven't enabled any encryption on my laptop.
Or maybe I was wrong, thinking that encryption = BitLocker.

Quick search in Control Panel reveals there is also a setting in User Accounts section named "Manage file encryption certificates".

I haven't enabled encryption in any folder/file using it's Properties window.

So why this "export your keys" option? I don't remember that from Windows 7.

I would be great if someone explained that to me, as I've never used encryption before (since I don't need it).
Also, is cloud storage like SkyDrive/DropBox an appropriate place to store that files?

Hey everyone

I just got a set of Boston Acoustics Digital Media Theater Speakers. They're pretty nice for 1999. I'd probably go as far as saying they're the best set of computer 2.1s I've ever heard.

Problem is, I can currently only run them through analogue because I have no digital cable for them. The connect on the sub looks like either a digital coax or RCA connect, which should run out to the 1/8 in. mini digital out on my SoundBlaster Live! card.

The manual doesn't say exactly what it is anywhere. It shows a picture of a cable with a single RCA end and a 1/8 in. mini stereo end.

Problem is, every such cable I find is mono on the mini end.

Any ideas on where to find a such cable?

Thanks,

Joe

I attached a picture of the back, it is blurry, but you can at least see what it is. (top right jack)

Hi,

I've recently switched to Digital Audio (S/PDIF) (High Definition Audio Device) using one Toslink cable instead of all the analog wires going from my PC to my receiver.

The digital sound is amazing, CD quality from my PC is great.

However, I now also receive the digitized sound of pages being loaded as I surf the web. All sound comes out digitized when loading a new page.

Is there a way to stop this from happening while listening to music or course material without gong back to analog?

Can I have my digital CD quality and enjoy it too!

On board sound cards are not known for their quality but try going in to your sound panel and muting all input and output sources you do not use (like mic and analog)

I assume you're running Windows. Which one?

I do a lot of audio work on mine, using Windows XP SP 3, and was able to kill the sounds by opening the Control Panel, then Sounds and Audio Devices, and then click on the Sounds tab. For "Sound Scheme" select "No Sounds" and click the "Save As" box.

I have a Pioneer 106s DVD ROM which has a digital 2 pin output.

I just bought a Sony STRDE 675 dolby digital amplifier which has a coaxial digital in input.

My sound card, a soundblaster Live CT 4830 does have a digital out connector on the external part (next to the line in input), but does not have a 2 pin connector on the card itself where the DVD could be connected (there is the place with SPDIF marked but for some reason there is no 2 pins connector)

I do not want to buy a 5.1 soundcard if I can connect my DVD ROM to the amplifier without using the soundcard, Is this possible! Is the DVD rom digital out SPDIF recognised by the amplifier?

Should I create on the soundcard (which does have the digital output on the ecternal panel) an internal connection for the 2 pins? will this work?

Does anyone have a clue? HELP!!
many thanks

Sound functions but reciever is only detecting 2 channel output. Apon browsing RealTekHD audio properites I discovered that the only options for Digital Output(RCA) were all 2-Channel under "Default Format" tab. However my front pannel Audio Output Jack(HD Audio 2nd Output) has an extra third tab labeled "Speaker Configuration" and has options for up to 7.1 surround but these settings do not impact my Digital Output(RCA) channel. Now my reciever does have a multi-channel input that could take advantage of the Analog Outputs in the rear but the distance is to great and multiple wires are expensive.

My question is how can i configure my RealTek Digital Output(RCA) to ouput 7 channel sound?

Or if not a driver is there anyway that I can get the photos off the camera to my computer...took alot of photos I don't want to lose.

The camera is from a company called Digital Concepts, the driver cd has a company called Sakar International on it. I hope thats all the info that would be needed for someone to help me!

Hello Alabama Belle, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Do you have the model number of the camera? You can also check at the manufacturer's website to see if they may have any drivers available to download that may work for you.

In addition, if you have a media card reader installed on your computer, you can take the card out of the camera and plug it into the media card reader instead to upload your pictures.

Hope this helps,

So whats the solution for not being the administrator of the network? I have no control whether the admin uses WEP 64bit or wpa2 enterprise. It makes no sense to not be compatible to this type of encryption when its used in a lot of places, and at the same time have a setting for open networks. Hey, a friend set up a secondary wireless network for me earlier and encrypted it with a 64-bit WPA password. Now my first network is out and I need to get onto the one my friend set up, but I ran into a little snag: I forgot the password. The thing is it's still saved in my Keychain Access on my MacBook but requires me to enter it when I try to connect to the network. When I check my Keychain Access I unlock it to view the password but it only shows the actual encrypted password, and when I try to enter the encrypted password: the connection fails. Basically, can I find out the original password with the encrypted code? Please, any suggestions are welcome. (but I'm trying to do it without reseting the router)

A:WPA Encryption Help!

"64-bit WPA password" is a bit confusing (64-bit WEP? WPA passphrase?) but whatever type of encryption you are using login to the router and look. If the encryption key is displayed you're OK. If it is not, set a new one.

I assume that you press "Apply" after changing the password and before refreshing the page. If so, make sure you have the latest firmware for the router; then reset it to factory defaults and reconfigure it. If the problem persists the router is defective.

First off, I'd disable remote administration of the router, and also change it's password. Apparently someone is connecting through your wireless and tinkering with your router settings. You should also try to get encryption working, since it provides an additional barrer to outside invasion.

What do I do if I want to email an encrypted file to a third-party?
How does encryption keep my data safe if my laptop is stolen?

A:Encryption

There are several ways to encrypt files. The simplest one the understand is substitution encryption. That one works by substituting characters. So the rule, lets say, is to substitute the real letter in the messages by moving down 2 places, so that "abc" becomes "cde",and "apple" becomes "crrng". The "crrng" is the encrypted message, and the original is "apple". Without knowing the encryption method and that the secret is "2", people would be unable to read your message or file contents.

Keeping things encrypted would keep prying eyes out of your files when your laptop is stolen.

Hello Everyone,  My organization is in the process of encrypting all of our mobile workstations and while trying to secure our t440-t460 models with TPM 1.2, we have been running into an issue. The issue is when we finish encrypting our devices with Bitlocker and setting our 6 digit passcode with air watch, the device still prompts us for the recovery key instead of the passcode when booting up or restarting. We've made sure to convert the hard drive volumes to GPT instead of MBR, and have enabled secure boot on all the machines. I have read on other forums that might be a limitation of TPM 1.2 but haven't gotten a difinitive answer on the matter. We have followed step by step procedures with other machines with TPM 2.0 and haven't ran into the issue. If you could give me any insight on this issue it would be much appreciated. Thank you.  Respectfully, Mario

Unless you live in a heaviily populated area, not really.

Basically if your connection to your wireless is showing WEP/Open, that means your wireless access point/router is unsecure. Anyone in a ~300ft range of that device can connect to your internet without your permission.

If you live in the woods and don't have any neighbours, you would be fine. The only time you would also have unsecured wireless is if your devices cant connect with a password.

So what do you guys suggest for HDD encryption, I've heard Truecrypt is alright, but I haven't done much research on the topic myself. If I do encrypt my internal HDD, is there a point to encrypting the backup itself?

A:HDD Encryption

Well, from what I know right now, TrueCrypt 7.1a is the latest known secure version of TrueCrypt, since the project was discontinued. The first report of the security audit declared that version safe to use, but we'll only really know once we get the second report. For more information, you can take a look at the audit's website here:

May I ask you which version and edition of Windows you have? If you have Windows 7 Ultimate/Entreprise, or Windows 8/8.1 Professional or Entreprise, you have access to Windows in-built BitLocker to encrypt your HDD and it's content. See the article here:

Otherwise, there's other alternatives to TrueCrypt and BitLocker, such as DiskCryptor and VeraCrypt. However, you should take a look at their requirement to make sure that they support your version of Windows.

As for your last question, it really depends. Is the back-up "online" or "offline"? It also depends if you bring it with you often or not. If there's a chance that this back-up drive might get stolen, I would encrypt it as well, just in case.
