Widowview Scanner Connection Device ?

Q: Widowview Scanner Connection Device ?

I have bought a new system mainframe and I can't transfer my old scsi port into the new system. I have my printer on the parallel port and I wondered if it's possible to connect the scanner through a USB port, or whether I need to purchase a new scsi card....

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to TSG

It would be better to just get a new card if you can’t get the old one to work. A Tekram DC315U is more than sufficient for any scanner and sells for about $25 in the US. It is for a standard mini 50 pin SCSI connector.

A USB to SCSI adapter wouldn’t work as well and would probably be pricier. You can’t just get an adapter cord with SCSI on one end and USB on the other if that is what you were asking.

I just bought a new Visioneer 3900 scanner for my Win98 OS. I previously had a Visioneer 3100 followed by an Epson 1250 with no problems. My new scanner won't respond to the commands to scan from Paper Port. I get an error message saying "Twain device is already in use". Before installing, I uninstalled the previous scanners software.

This has caused me so much time and misery if I could get to the supposed Twain that is in use I would kill it outright and without mercy. But, since I don't really understand what "Twain" means. there"s no way I'm going to find it on my own.

Can you help?

A:Scanner "Twain Device already in use

I would give this advice. Firstly uninstall both the printer and the scanner software. Then reinstall both of them, printer first. If the printer is recognized by the software, then continue with the scanner. It is my guess that when trying to print to your printer your scanner is somehow interfering with the print. I would also try to turn off the scanner while printing.

I have an older client who has a Windows 7 desktop with a standalone HP Scanner and a printer.  For some reason, when using the copy function (which is meant to send the scan to the printer) the printout is light.  It will usually print straight lines and text okay but not print anything hand-written.  The parts of the document that are not 'thick' seem to get lost in the translation.  Very strange.  It also will not auto-crop correctly.

At any rate, I'm wondering if anyone has come up against the more common problem of the HP/Brother/Canon scan software being a complicated mess and can recommend an aftermarket solution.

I have two choices:

1. Use the existing scanner and printer, but better, simpler, more configurable software
2. Recommend an all-in-one unit that is inexpensive and is proven to work well for an extended period of time.

Just so I don't waste anyone's time, I've already searched around a bit and don't need anyone to search for me - I just want to know someone's solutions that have worked for them.  It seems to me that a lot of us have had clients or family members say "I just want to push one of two buttons and have one of two things happen" and I want to know if anyone has a easy cut and dry method to make that happen - even if it's just a favorite brand or model of multifunction printer.

I'm trying to prevent my scanner from starting up (along with its associated noise) when Windows 7 starts up.

I couldn't find my scanner in the "Everything" tab within Autoruns (version 9.57) during a manual search or via a search using the Find option.

There also doesn't seem to be a way to stop the scanner from starting up from the Devices and Printers window - Scanner Properties pathway.

Is there another way to stop the scanner from starting up when Windows 7 starts up.

Thanks for the tip.

A:How to Prevent Scanner from being a Start Up Device

Have a look in the startup programs - type msconfig into start/search, hit Enter, then go to the startup tab.

Thanks,

A:Is sharing a USB device (scanner) possible over home network?

Not normally. Most scanner drivers are not designed to allow sharing. Since you have to be next to the scanner to load the material to be scanned, it's somewhat pointless for most folks anyway.

hi I need help with Our Barcode Scanners that doesn?t work on our newly purchased computers from HP with Windows7 Pro x64 Operating Systems. The brand and model of the barcode scanner is:Datalogic Heron D130 USB. When you connect the scanner to the USB port, Windows will try to install this as an HID, but it takes an unusually long time, about 7-8 seconds, to start up the device and install the drivers and comes up as unknown device in windows "devices and printers" And the hand scanner is not working. Sometimes when switching USB port back and forth can I sometimes get the hand scanner to be recognized as a HID device or a Datalogic barcode scanner,it works fine until you restart the computer. After restart can?t the computer detect the Barcode scanner correctly without re-appears as unknown device. I suspect that there is a Compatibility issue between barcode scanner and the USB controller card on the computers.I have tried to upgrade all the drivers available on www.hp.com website and even www.Intel.com (chipset drivers) but nothing has helped to resolve this issue Have tried newly purchased barcode scanners and Older ?used?  barcode scanners that works on other computers, but the problem remains.  I have found a workaround by connecting barcode scanner into a USB-hub and then connect the USB-hub to the computer.  And let the USB-hub take care of the communication with the barcode Scanner.in this case,... Hi, The problem is not power -related.We use passive USB Hubs that solves the problemon those computers. (it will work with docks too, or if you have HP EliteDisplay E241 as we have  thers an inbulit 2-port usb hub in the monitor that works.)The problem lies in the incompatibility between the Intel USB controller and hand scanner , may be related to USB 3.0 when you let an other usb-controller take charge in handshakeing (like an usb-hub) it works. neither Intel or Datalogic want to acknowledge this error.Because of no one of the big companies want to acknowledge the problem or fix it , we personaly have chosen to move to a AMD platform / CPU instead of the Intel and now it works great !We also get more performance for your money when AMD generally cost less to purchase . And due to Datalogic's poor support where they do not even answer email (their only channel for the support)I have chosen to not use their products anymore. I'm going to use another supplier / Brand of barcodescanners.

I turned off MSE, stopped the auto set up, opened the files on the installation disk, right-clicked set-up, and changed compatibility to Win 7, and ran the set-up. The Epson Scan shows up in Programs and there's a short-cut on the desktop, so the software installed. I then connected the scanner to my laptop with the USB cable that came with the scanner, and turned the scanner on. (one thing that I noted is that the scanner didn't go through that initial startup when I turned it on, just the green light on the front came on.)

Device Manager doesn't show it, the Printers and Devices doesn't show it, nor does the Cameras and Scanners. If I click on the desktop icon, I get an error message that says there's a communication problem with the scanner and to check the cables, make sure its turned on, etc.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, downloaded the updated drivers from the Epson website, and tried a few of the other suggestions in other threads, to no avail.

Obviously, others have gotten this scanner working with Win 7, but I can't find any info on how. Can someone please help me get this thing going?

Thanks!!

Hey guys,

My Xerox Documate 510 scanner is flat out not recognized by my computer. Its not showing up as an "unspecified" device in Device Management, and I don't see an unidentified device category in Device Manager. Wondering what the problem is, as I have a huge backlog of papers I need to digitize.

I've installed the drivers and used the scanner on other Win 7 computers without a problem, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm trying to reinstall my sister's scanner driver because XP has decided that it's not there any more. This happens occasionally and usually reinstalling the driver fixes it (I think that's what I did last time), but this time i just can't get it to work.

If i unplug the USB cable then plug it in again, it comes up with a message saying that the device has malfunctioned and it doesn't recognize it. I have the driver CD but windows always manages to install it as "Unknown device" before i can tell it to search the CD. I've tried telling it to reinstall the driver from the CD but it says that there are "no better matches for this device". I've also tried uninstalling the program form the CD and reinstalling it then restarting the pc but that didn't help either. I tried plugging it into another USB port (as suggested by Windows Help Center) but that still didn't work.

It's not often that something like this gets me in a circle and scratching my head but I'm really starting to run out of ideas.

Any help would be very appreciated, i just want to get this thing running again

How can I get my Dell Dimension 8300 with MS XP Home edition to recognize my HP ScanJet 4300 C scanner?

Yesterday, out of the blue, my machine suddenly ceased recognizing my scanner and would not initialize the software. Frustrated after repeated attempts to get it to do so, including rebooting numerous times, I finally de-installed the software, checked and double-checked all connections, and then re-installed the software. Everything installed completely and correctly, yet my machine still refuses to recognize the scanner. How do I know this? By accessing the Control Panel and double-clicking the "Scanner" icon, I find the folder E M P T Y. Everytime I attempt to initialize the program, the same window pops up after a brief pause: "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized (scanner could not be found)."

So, was ist los? What has gone wrong? Any suggestions on how to regain the use of my scanner? It's now 6½ years only and I have gotten a lot of use out of it. Perhaps I should invest in a new one? Has the state-of-the-art in scanning hardware and software advanced during those years? I could care less about the cost, since they are not expensive. My use is 98% textual and I need top-of-the-line OCR quality to reduce the amount of editing that I have to do (e.g., arabic "1" instead of roman "I" and vice versa, German Umlauts and other foreign language diacritical marks, etc.).

Hello:

I installed the "Domex DMX3181LE (UDS-IS11) PC/ISA SCSI Interface Card" that came with this scanner. Plugged in the scanner and turned it on. Then, started up my computer.

New Device Found (dialog box) never popped-up for either the scanner or SCSI card.

Checked Device Manager and "neither" were there.

Checked the SCSI card JUMPERS and saw that they were setup for (PnR) "Plug-and-Run."

Changed the jumper to (PnP) "Plug-and-Play" and restarted computer resulting in "NEW DEVICE FOUND" box showing this SCSI card detected as "DTC436E."

Having installed "VistaScan v1.08 Software" (from CD that came with scanner) . . . NO DRIVER was found for this card.

Searched the web for many "DTC436E" drivers, but NONE of the drivers found (mostly DTC328x) worked with this card.

Found out that when using "VistaScan Software" - I don't need a driver for this card and the scanner DOES WORK (after changing the jumper back to "Plug-and-Run.")

I also updated the original file "UMAXIS11.386" to a "UMAXIS11.386" v1.07 driver (for Win98 that removes any conflict between Win98 and the scanner software).

I tried using "Add/Remove Hardware" to install the "Umax Astra 1200S Scanner" (which did show up in Device Manager) - even though the Umax Installation Instructions said to NOT install this scanner through "Win95 Add/Remove Hardware" b... Read more

Kaspersky Lab has released a beta version of its solution for the "smart" home and the Internet of Things - Kaspersky IoT Scanner. This free application for the Android platform scans the home Wi-Fi network, informing the user about the devices connected to it and their level of security.

As the Internet of Things continues to increase in popularity, cybercriminals are eagerly looking for ways to take advantage of this growing trend. Instead of making life easier for their owners, smart devices are increasingly becoming a weak link in their security.

According to analytical data from Gartner, over six billion IoT devices are currently being used worldwide, and many of them have already fallen victim to cybercriminals. For example, last year the world was shaken by the wave of DDoS attacks launched by the Mirai botnet. The Mirai bots used popular vulnerabilities in IoT devices to infect them and turn them into cybercriminal puppets. Kaspersky Lab has developed a solution to help reduce these risks. With the beta version, the company is encouraging IoT users to protect their smart homes, and share their experiences about the performance and usability of Kaspersky IoT Scanner.

Kaspersky IoT Scanner automatically identifies smart devices such as Wi-Fi routers, IP cameras, Smart TVs, Wi-Fi printers, NAS network storage devices, media servers and game consoles, as well as computers, tablets or smartphones, in the home network. The solution "memorizes"... Read more

We just upgraded our office desktop from Windows XP and Windows 7. We used to scan driver's license IDs into our accounting program on XP. It worked pretty smoothly. But now on Windows 7 (the same hardware, except the desktop itself) when someone tries to scan a document we get the following window (see attached) that says,

"Which device do you want to use?"

With only one scanner in the list. That is kind of stupid, isn't it... Plus this window doesn't just popup, it becomes hidden behind other windows and the only way to tell that it's there is by its flashing icon on the taskbar, which is very confusing for most of our office workers.

Does anyone know how to make this window not show up and go directly into that scanner (like it used to work on XP)?

Hi,

Looking for help on ad-hoc wi-fi network between Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop running Win 7 Ultimate and Nokia N79 running Symbian S60v3

I want to view live tv on my phone. A USB TV tuner card is connected to laptop which is in turn connected to Satellite DTH receiver. I can see TV in my laptop in Win Media Center and dedicated app provided by USB TV card maker.

I know basics - I have to connect phone and laptop via ad hoc wi fi connection. Run VLC player, select source and use rtsp:// protocol with .sdp extension.

I do all this but yet get unable to connect on real player in phone.

Pls share details about configuration settings of ad hoc connection ipv4 settings etc.

What am i missing?

A:Ad Hoc Connection between Lap and Mobile Device

At best I'll be of minimal help here, as there is so much I do not know about the phone and the special apps you are using.

For the ad-hoc wireless I recommend to get it working unsecured before trying to add encryption. You can leave it as a dynamic connection and then each device will be assigned an APIPA (169.254.x.y). This is a pain, however, because it takes a while for the two devices to get talking to each other and you don't immediately know the IP addresses in case you need to do some troubleshooting. So, I recommend assigning static IPs--suggest 10.0.0.10 on one machine and 10.0.0.20 on the other. Mask 255.255.255.0.

When you think that the network should be working open a Command prompt on the laptop and

ping 10.0.0.20 (assuming the phone was assigned that IP)

If you get replies you know you at least have one way communication.

If you have a non-Windows firewall or security suite on the laptop you may have to configure it for the desired access.

please help

i'm using powershell on windows 7 and i want to get the device path from an external usb hub's port to an attached USB device. powershell is great in reporting back a ton of information but it does not show which hub/port that a device is attached to. basically
id' like to get back the same information that UsbTreeView returns but via console so that i can write an automated script that calls the powershell command like below.
powershell -command "& {get-wmiobject -class Win32_USBControllerDevice -computername "LocalHost" -namespace "root\CIMV2" }"

I have an HP dx6500 with the service tag dx6667cl. I'm running Vista ultimate 64 bit. My problem is I can't connect to my home network. It has a wireless card in it but, I don't have a wireless access point. It is the only network device listed in the device manager. I have tried opening the bios but there is no way to enable/disable the integrated nic. I was not able to find any of the integrated devices in the bios. I tried flashing the bios to the newest version. That did not help any.

How do I get Vista to see the wired nic?

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I need to use wireless keyboard. When I use bluetooth device it can detect my keyboard but it is unable to stablish the connection with keyboard. I can't understand what is the problem. The required driver is installed successfully. How can I fix this problem?

A:How to stablish connection with wireless device

This is not really a networking question. So you may want to move this to the appropriate forum.

But you say it is Bluetooth. Please post the make and model of your computer and the make and model of the keyboard.

Although there are Bluetooth keyboard most wireless keyboard use a USB receiver and not Bluetooth. So we need to know what make and model to make sure it is Bluetooth.

I have had this camera for awhile now (Olympus Sp-800uz) and been plugging it in to my laptop (Sony Vaio) to upload photos regulary. But now when I plug it in after a minute or so it comes up with a message on the camera's display that there is no connection.
I tried plugging in my camera to a different computer and it worked fine so it's not the USB or device so I think there's something wrong with the laptop, but i can not decipher what.
I have tried using several different driver programns to try and find the problem but they have not been able to find anything.
Any ideas?

This isn't exactly a Windows7 problem, but I don't know where else to ask it.

I've purchased a small (single 2TB) network assessable storage unit - a Western Digital MyBookLive. I'm having trouble connecting the MBL device to the LAN. My LAN config is consists of an Actiontec GT701-WG router/DSL modem/ WiFi access point, a LinkSys 5-port ethernet switch, a Win7 desktop PC ethernet-connected to the router through the switch, a wireless-connected XP desktop PC, and a wireless-connected Vista laptop.

The NAS device supports UPnP so I can connect it directly to the router or any of 3 computers on the LAN - a Win7 desktop, a Vista laptop, and an XP desktop. The device is visible (but not necessarily usable) in each of thse cases. However, if I connect the NAS device to the switch nothing sees it. I've tried multiple ports on the switch (including ports that work for the PC) and multiple ethernet cables. Nothing works.

The NAS device supports 10M/100M/GB ethernet. The router and switch switch support 10/100MB (although the router reports it has a 10MB connection to my PC so maybe one of these devices doesn't actually support 100MB). When directly connected a PC or laptop the NAS device's ethernet status LED is green. When directly connected to the router it shows yellow. (I may have those colors reversed.) When connected to the switch the status LED is off. I suspect the color is an indication of the connection speed, and no speed has been determined whe... Read more

Hi all, I've been dealing with this problem for a few weeks now, I moved into a new apartment, got my internet set up, and I've noticed my new PC doesn't get the same connection speeds as all the rest of my devices, or my roommates devices. I'm running Windows 10, I've tried both a wired and wireless connection, both limited to around ~20mbps, when I'm paying for 150mbps, and every other device, ie. my phone, PlayStation, my roommates PC, and his phone, all connect consistently over both wired and wireless at 130-150mbps. I've tried uninstalling my AV software (despite following all steps to uninstall, Norton still has files in my ProgramData I can't get rid of, and TSG SysInfo still detects it as my active, enabled AV), setting my TCP/IP stack and WINSOCK to default, as recommended in another forum I found, and updating my drivers. I've read to start up in Safe mode and check the connection speed from there, but I find that I can't get my browser to open in Safe mode to try, and I'm unaware how to check it otherwise. Any help would be appreciated, I'm losing my mind a little

I had been using the IE well until yesterday I cannot open any web page. I'm sure the network works fine, because I can receive/send email using outlook. I thought maybe the IE had some problem, so removed the IE 7, downloaded IE 8 using another PC, then installed the IE 8, but it still cannot open any web page. I checked the Network Connections, found "Unavailable - device missing" under MSN Connection manager.

What should I do to solve this problem?

Is there a way to monitor all device's internet connection into a log ? (computer, laptop, tablets and phone ... all in one)

Deeper explanation :

because I do not like AT&T DSL 5M internet provider, but that is the only company in this area that has it.
(no Hughes dish etc ... no)

anyway, I am getting sick of disconnecting and reconnecting ... not sure if that DSL is fluctuating ... or along the DSL lines thru houses/business re-wiring DSL ... or etc etc etc ...

how can I know whether is it guaranteed disconnected/Reconnected by computer or DSL or etc ?

I was playing a 8 ball tournament online and lost one match dues disconnecting (no, hack/cheat involved because I played on mobile)

only thing I noticed is that AT&T cellular data still connected forever without getting disconnected ... but I can not use data plan because of the limited bandwidth/data usage.

so, I tried nearly everything I can think of and researched hard ... and tested it ... I still can not find an issue, even DSL guy came here to check it out ... nothing's wrong here ... BS ... there is something, somewhere that is causing disconnecting and reconnecting ...

already did flush dns, clear cache, etc etc ...

I just need networking monitor log because I am can not watch all 6 devices and test it when disconnecting occurs ... I thought that is a great idea to pinpoint even further down, for example : laptop #2, tablet #1 and this computer gets disconnecting reconnecting when ... Read more

Win 7 Home Premium running On Dell Studio 1558 laptop (Intel i5 with 4G Ram).

About 50% of the time when I plug a usb device in (happens with different devices, different ports) I get a total system crash - not truly a BSOD here since it just looks like something is writing to graphics memory (odd patterns/colors on screen, etc). When I pull the USB device - the system reboots and comes up as normal (and sometimes will take the device that was just inserted fine!). Zip file with dump and perfmon attached (I hope)

Hi -

The 2 BSODs both name Acronis as the probable cause -

Code:

snapman.sys Sat Aug 15 04:42:00 2009 (4A8674D8) - Acronis Snapshots Manager

Remove Acronis.

I would also recommend that you update ATI video drivers -

Code:

atikmdag.sys Wed Nov 18 14:14:44 2009 (4B0447A4)

ATI video --> http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Remove McAfee Internet Security --> http://jcgriff2.com/A-V_Removal_Tool...e_Removal.html

If BSODs persist, run the Driver Verifier

I set up ICS on my laptop so that I can use my Xbox 360 in the living room. Everything runs fine, however when I run a network diagnostic test on the 360 it tells me that it only has "moderate" connectivity to the NAT.

When I have the 360 hooked up directly to the router setting up the DMZ for the 360 is no problem. However, when the 360 is set up in the living room and running off of the ICS I can't set it up as a DMZ because my router only allows a DMZ to be set up as a hardcoded 192.168.1.xxx format. Since the address assigned to the 360 does not follow the 192.168.1.xxx format I need to be able to assign the DMZ to an address that doesn't maintain the 192.168.1.xxx convention. Is there any way of doing this either by reconfiguring my WRT54G router in some way or by some other networking trickery?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

I encountered a problem with my internet connection and I believe it may have to do with DNS. I can't access the internet at all on my laptop, neither Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox work. I ran a diagnostics test and received this message: "The remore device or resource won't accept the connection." More details state that "the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not set up to accept connections on port 'The World Wide Web service (HTTP).' I've searched through many forums and tried countless possible solutions:

Resetting my computer
Power cycling the modem
Resetting Internet browser settings
Flushing the DNS via cmd
Releasing and renewing the IP address (Note: cmd is unable to renew the IP because it fails to connect to the DHCP server)
Disabling Windows Firewall
Checking for proxy settings that may be checked

I'm using a wired connection that goes directly to the modem, no router. An interesting thing to note is that I am able to connect to the internet via mobile hotspot on my Android phone. I've already contacted my ISP (Comcast) and they believe it's a computer related issue but through my trials, this doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like a DNS issue.

Hoping this is the best place to post this.

I recently purchased a gadget called a HD HomeRun Prime from a company called Silicon Dust, Model HDHR3-CC (www.hdhomerun.com). They are located in Plesanton, CA. It is supposed to stream live TV at 1080i to “any screen on your home network” , i.e., “Smart” TVs, computers, media players, game consoles, laptops, Blu-Ray players, Android devices, etc. It has three digital tuners and connects to my Verizon FiOS cable with an Ethernet cable going back to the Wi-Fi router. There is a slot for a Motorola “M-Card” (CableCARD) which I have obtained, installed and activated. Verizon charges $4.99/mo. to rent this card. This is supposed to give you the ability to stream the live TV to three devices (wirelessly) without having to rent additional set-top boxes from Verizon at $11.99/mo. The product literature stated that it was “dlna certified” but did NOT mention that devices intended to be used with it also HAD to be dlna certified or compliant. The only requirement it places on TVs is that they be “Smart.” (See http://www.hdhomerun.com/company/about/ for a more detailed technical explanation.)

Soooooooooooo, I went out and bought two Vizio E241i-A1W TVs. They are “Smart” 1080p technology. The software supplied with the device is installed on an ACER NetBook running Windows 7. This is able to connect to the device, wirelessly through the Wi-Fi router and displays all of the channels (including premium) I am able to see on the TV... Read more

A:Vizio TV connection to HDHomeRun device

The two methods would be via app/software or DLNA.

DLNA support is a feature, and isn't supported on all models/brands. If it's supported, it should be listed in the specs. I didn't see it mentioned in the User Manual for your TV.

If Silicon Dust states it won't work, then it sounds like you are out of luck. If there was a work around, or even a solution that works on some models, they would be the ones to know.

I was looking for a supported TV list on their site, but couldn't find one.

Hi,
About a month ago I have suddenly stopped getting internet connection to my phone from only my internet (wifi). Other devices can connect to my wifi network and my phone can connect to different wifi networks. My phone does connect to the wifi (It says connect to Edimax...) but no data comes in.The problem is not that I have inputted the wrong password. I have tried resetting the phone (factory reset), no progress. I have called my ISP (they don't know how to help). I don't know what else I can do. Please if you can, help me.

Hi,
I've been having problems with my 2 laptops dropping the connection to our wireless for the past couple of years.
At first we thought the our wi-fi router was dying, so we bought another one, set it up the same way, and then experienced the same problem which is the connection will drop, we'll have to reboot the wireless router and then we can connect....and we keep having to do this with the 2 laptops we have. Our 1 PC that is connected via ethernet to the same wireless router has never had any problems. SO I am not on my 3rd wireless router now, this time a D-link WBR-2310 and am just sick and tired of having to keep rebooting the router every time the connection drops.

Both of our laptops on Windows XP, SPK 2 and both configured to use the Intel-Pro-Set wireless configuration utility as we thought maybe the windows management option was the problem.

The Wireless router is set to Broadcast our SSID and is using the "Enable the WPA wireless security" option with TKIP. We have "Enable extended Range mode" selected. DHCP Server is turned on.
So what can I do??? Obviously it can't be the router as this our 3rd one.
Please help.

Hello:
I truly have searched many threads with a variety of search terms and cannot zero in on the exact problem or a potential solution. Here is a concise description:

Old 2002 Dell Dimension 4500 which could not update to Service Pack 2 on Xp Pro. Reformatted and reinstalled operating system. Desktop appears and all functions seem normal except can not connect to Internet. There is an Ethernet connection to the motherboard, and the connection to the net is working (main computer on which I write this is connected via DSL to the net). Device drivers have been installed from CD backup disk, as well as downloaded from Dell support. Have repeated process twice, with same result.

Device Manager does not show an internet connection box; Other devices show four lines, all with yellow question marks. Typing ipconfig /all in the cmd window produces nothing--no error, no listing.

SIW profile program says, under "Network Service", that there is an Ethernet Controller. Clicking on this shows a description with one line saying: Status: "0x01802400 has problem".

Another profile program, Belarc Advisor reports, under "Communications:, the following line: "Network Card MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00".

I am really stuck on how to proceed and solve this problem. Hopefully, with this diagnostic information, some of you more knowledgeable people can help me.

Any advice?
Many thanks, Ken

A:No Networking Connection in Device Manager

I would logically guess that either no drivers are installed for the network adapter, the incorrect drivers are installed or the network adapter itself is not functioning.

I would lean toward you're not having istalled all the motherboard drivers and devices because you have so many question marks in your device manager, which doesn't preclude having a dead network adapter because I don't know if a MAC address would be reported by BELARC regardless of identification of the device or not. If it is supposed to, the "flat line" of zeros probably means its dead, if not, drivers.
