I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a pocket wi-fi being shared by 3 laptops.. I want to connect a Zyxel Wireless N-lite Home Router so that I can also plug-in other LAN connected devices, e.g. VOIP phone. Is there a way to connect it or are there other devices I need for this internetworking. By the way, currently the router is connected to WiMAX broadband modem which I want disconnected already due to low available bandwidth.

The laptops OS are XP, Vista and Windows 7 and MacOS.

Thanks very much guys and more power to you.

Hey everyone,
I'd really appreciate any help you guys can give on the issue...I'm at my wits end at this point...

So anyway, about a month ago my old 2wire modem pretty much kicked the bucket for good (after about 4 years of more or less dedicated service with the occasional hiccup here and there, I was kind of saddened yet relieved) and I was left without internet for a few days. I contacted my ISP with the issue, and after a bunch of failed restart attempts on their end (I told them the damn thing was dead already, but they were insistent on making sure I wasn't bs'ing them) they finally relented and decided to send me their new Pace 4111n router/modem.

A few days later, low and behold, I had a new Pace and guess what? IT HAD WIFI!!

The reason why this came as such an interesting surprise was because my old 2Wire that my ISP had originally provided us with was simply a modem with no router/wifi capabilities on it. In order to bypass the lack of Wifi, I had to purchase a Netgear N300 router and had it hooked up to the 2Wire for years with no connectivity issues.
Anyway, with the new Pace in hand, I put my old Netgear away and plugged the new baby in....and here is where things kinda went downhill....
Now...my old set up was kinda strange...I used to have the 2Wire modem hooked up to the Netgear router and in between had a Grandstream HT502 Voip phone adapter plugged in (we have the need in my household for long distance phone service, and in order to ... Read more

Uhhg, im about ready to spontaneously combust, and if i was drinker, i probably would have already, considering alcohol would only fuel that process further. But here is the deal (ill start with problem #2 first, since thats more important for me right now).

I have an older pc that im trying to connect to another pc for LAN connectivity, etc. The older one is a Pentium 4, with XP-SP3 on it. The one i use for all my gaming and 'hardcore' stuff, is a Core2 E8400, with XP SP2 on it (didnt want to put XP3 on it, till im done seeing how things run on the other pc, and what apps will/wont work). For about 5 days, i tried connecting my Linksys WUSBF54G Wireless Adapter to the P4, only to be pounded with Code 10's Device Cannot Start until i put it into a different USB port for the 192nd time, and it suddenly decided to work . Of course, now i cant connect to my own router, but thats been going on for ages and i cant seem to fix it. I thought maybe it would suddenly work when i tried it now, but still no luck. It broadcasts fine, shows in the WZC Network Search section on the P4 w/ good signal strength, and i can connect to another unsecured network in my household just fine. I tried my own router with WPA2 encryption, and then without it, but still, it just says CONNECTING and then the window disappears (no error, nothing). Afterwards, when i look at the wireless network monitor in the taskbar, it says 54mb, NO SIGNAL, Wireless Network Connection (ACCESS POINT), but... Read more

I recently bought dlink D2750U WIFI ADSL modem/router, for my ADSL internet connection.

But I have now changed my ISP, who provide internet via cable(not telephone line). The ISP guy provides a cable modem(old modem) along with it.

I have connected my PC this way:
Cable modem -> Router -> PC through RJ45. I am able to access internet from my PC, but I am not able to get wifi working on the router. And I am logging onto internet through a dial up connection.
1) Please help in configuring the router to get wifi working.
2) Also, my default gateway seems to be either or blank. So, I am not able to login to the modem unless I remove the modem connection. Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong here.

Here are a few more details:

A:Using dlink D2750U Wifi Modem/Router As a Wifi Router

Hey Narain. The D-Link unit you have appears to be a combo unit (modem and wireless router) since it connects straight to the RJ-11 phone line. This unit won't work with an ISP that provides service by way of coax cable. The D-Link will work if you want to use DSL, but you need a cable service compatible modem or combo modem/router if you use cable service.

I am looking to replace my tired Linksys WRT54G router that is about 10 years old. I love the router, and its even better with DD-WRT on it, but I'm starting to have troubles with the wifi dropping all the connects for a couple seconds when running all my wireless devices. I have 3 smart phones, 2 tablets, 1 Chromecast, a smart TV, and Roku + a laptop or 3 in my house right now, and it seems like its getting to be a bit much for it.
I have had to completely re-flash the firmware twice this year to get the wifi working again, so I'm thinking its time for replacement.
I have been thinking about just getting the new WRT54GL for $50, but I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade the wifi technology past wireless G .
I'm wondering if my Tablet (Nexu 9), and our smartphones (Razr HD Max) along with the Chromecast will take advantage of the new wireless standards and higher speeds or not? If they will can someone recomend a decent wireless router that takes DD-WRT nicely in the sub-$100 range? Thanks!

A:Looking for new Wifi Router - Will Tablet/Smartphone take advantage of new wifi Standards?

I been programming in Android/Linux since 2010 and there is code that supports VHT is Very High Throughput. Right now the standards are HT is High Throughput .

As for DD-WRT firmware is like your overclocking your router pushing it beyond the OEM limits. I use to use DD-WRT but had quit many years ago since the routers that used that firmware would fail too much.

So best to buy a better business type enterprise router wired then you can use WiFi router as AP or just get WiFi AP(access point). To me WiFi Router is also Wired Router, but to use just a wired router and use WiFi AP through a switch is better. If one or the other goes you can easy replace them. Where as if the WiFi Router fails you would need to replace it.

If you really want to use DD-WRT then Look at Buffalo WiFi Routers some come pre-installed with DD-WRT on them. Frankly you really don't need DD-WRT today because newer routers or WiFi routers are much better built and offer much more power NPU = network processor units and 128, 256, 512, 1GB of RAM some have Dual Cores.

I have been trying for some time to accomplish the title result. I'm not techie enough to do it.

What I want is to be able to use a Tablet to read in the rear of my home (which is out of range for incoming wifi signal.)

If I can set up the computer to do this, I will cable connect to a router in that area.
I have two computers and could use either.

1.a PC running XP (should update to windows 8.1, but have never bothered to do that, since XP works just fine. (I had this computer sharing to the router, when I had DSL internet connection, using Windows wizard to set it up) Couldn't get it to work when I switched to WIFI internet access) I could switch to win 7 or 8.1 if that would help.

2. a Lap Top running WIN 8.1,

Any help is appreciated.

A:Internet access via WIFI and share WIFI via second router

Due to the age of XP this is not the best option for what you want to do

Either windows 7 or 8.1 have access to Internet connection sharing (ICS) built in

To use ICS you need at least two connections to the local LAN, these can be any mix of wifi or Ethernet.

As you have a laptop you likely already have a system to use for this

There is a tutorial explaining the basics ... and more on this site

Hello, I am a bit of a hard time with 2 routers on one network and unfortunately as things stand now they both have to be there. So I just got ADSL and the only modem option available to me was one with a 4-port wired router, I hooked that up into my existing network of about 9 computers (5 laptops and 4 desktops) which is connected by another 4-port WiFi router.

I started out with my only goal of hooking 3 of these computers to the internet after I got the DSL by some MAC filtering configured in the WiFi router. But, having the DSL modem/router has created another issue. I am using 2 separate IP gateways for both the routers which are in the same subset, I can connect to both of them from all my machines. The problem is I don't have any control over which computer connects to what router. I am trying to avoid setting each PC up with a static IP that needs internet access.

Here is my setup in more detail. My ADSL router is and my WiFi router is and both have the subnet My ADSL connection has dynamic IP and the modem/router is connected into a LAN port on the WiFi router. I have tried disabling DHCP on the modem/router and changed my WiFi router IP to that of the modem (which was counter productive) to no avail. Someone mentioned MAC address cloning but I am not sure if it will work in this setup. Since I configured this I am seeing quite a few IP conflicts, which are probably my fault as I didn't check when I was setting... Read more

I just got a new laptop (Acer Aspire One 756) and keep having an issue with the internet connection not being able to connect after the computer sleeps or hibernates for a few hours. It usually says identifying network... no internet access. I copied and pasted the trouble shooting that I did below. It still works if I restart or the computer sleeps or hibernates for less than an hour or so. The other computer and devices that use this connection work fine when mine isn't working. I can fix this problem by restarting the router and it works fine again. It's just annoying to have to restart the router a few times a day. It also only does this with my network at home. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter with the most updated driver, power cycling the router and all the devices, changing the network adapter settings to do not turn this device off to save power, and resetting the Winsock like I've seen on other forum posts. None of these has worked so far. The router is a dlink WBR-1310 and it's pretty old. My wireless network adapter is a Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125.

You have covered most angles - shutting the router down doesn't actually reset the router there is generally a small button you need to push in with a pen and hold it in for a specified time about between 5 and 10 seconds - then you have to reconnect it to the internet as everything is set to default settings - this is done by typing in an address eg in a browser and this opens the router settings - you can download the manual from the dlink site which will have details on how to - generally you just use the auto settings.

I have found with my router if it isn't anything major you can just turn off the pc /laptop turn off the router - wait a minute -then turn it back on - wait for all the lights are up and running then turn on pc/laptop.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

I have an issue with my laptop that I am utterly baffled by. If anybody could help me solve it, I'd much appreciate it. I have an HP 17-e020dx running Windows 8 which I purchased two years ago. Until recently I lived abroad and had limited internet so in the two yrs I had this laptop abroad, I believe I ran Windows Update maybe only two times. Upon returning stateside, I set about updating everything from Windows Update. Everything was fine, the only issue being that it didn't seem my laptop could update to 8.1 despite being prompted to do so. A couple of weeks later we had a power outage and I used the laptop until the battery died and then turned the laptop back on when the power came back. When the laptop turned on, that was when I discovered that the wifi connection was limited despite working on all other devices. I googled around and tried a few solutions to no avail before trying a system restore which seemed to do the trick. I thought nothing of it after that until the issue came up again a few weeks later, probably when I restarted the laptop, only this time system restore didn't fix the problem. Eventually I got frustrated enough and decided to reformat the whole computer because I'd read some articles that suggested one of the updates caused this which seemed to make sense to me since I never had this connectivity problem abroad (when I hadn't run Update) . After reformatting the computer I never ran Windows Update. In fact I turned it off. For approximately two we... Read more

I recently bought HP laptop with 4GB RAM, and Windows 8.1 OS. Sometimes when I start the system, my WiFi featured gets disabled and it shows the network is connected but with a star symbol in the wifi symbol in the task bar.
I don't what is reason behind this, I always used turn on or restart the system two to three times to get WiFi connectivity!
Many of my friends have said there is problem with WiFi and bluetooth connectivity in Windows 8.1 as it is getting disabled and it requires restart everytime we turn on WIFI.
Is there any solution for this?

Hello, and welcome to the Forum!

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found, here's how

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type or copy and paste the following command:

ipconfig/all > 0 & notepad 0

and press enter.

Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus WiFi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.
To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to s... Read more

Hi there,
I recently have been experiencing a massive slowdown in my connectivity to all networks. At first I thought this was my/other router/ ISP's problem, but after tests etc and checking other devices I have realised that it is my own laptop that has developed the problem in the last few weeks.
Here is my set up:
Gigagbyte p55 Laptop
i7-6700HQ - 2.60 GHz
16gb DDR4 Ram
64 bit Windows 10
Intel ® Dual Band Wireless - AC 8260
Nvidia 970m 3gb
Any help with this issue would be welcome, and i am assuming you will need further information, this is just a start !
Ps - Not sure if this is the right forum ! Could be internal could maybe be a software issue.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
Checkmark the following checkboxes:  List last 10 Event Viewer log  List Installed Programs  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy,  taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.
Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.
After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):
Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot. You will see the following prompt:

Hi Everyone! I SERIOUSLY need some assistance.  I have the "*" sign next to my wifi signal and cannot connect.  I really think I have tried everything to resolve this.  I have reset my router, uninstalled then reinstalled my network adapter, updated the driver software for the driver, purchased and installed a new wifi card--I'm pretty sure everything.  And nothing is working.  My laptop has only 1 antenna wire--and it's marked 1 so that is the slot I snapped it into.  Is it possible that the antenna wire is fried?  Or that there should be 2 and I can't find the other one?   To make matters worse I tried to tether it to my cell phone and that isn't working either.  I keep getting "cannot connect to this network".  The card is max 2.4gh and that is the wifi network I am trying to connect it to (I have both a 2.4gh and a 5gh network). PLEASE HELP!  I love my laptop!   THANK YOU SO MUCH!

This is a brand new laptop and I am having lots of problems with the wifi  connectivity and have had from day one.  The connection is really temperamental.  It often just randomly drops out after being online for a while.  It also won't show any wifi networks at all alot of the time and the network settings panel just seems to freeze when I try to resolve the problem.  Turning it off and taking the battery out can help bizarely.  Obviously this is really frustrating when I am trying to work.  I have tried the laptop on different networks and the problem still occurs.  Other devices will be connected to the network and will be working when the connection on the laptop has failed.  Very frustrating.......

I have also been having connectivity issues, as described above, for the last couple of months.  This week it has gotten worse and today, the connection is almost non-existant.  I have had the same HP computer for about 2 years and the same internet provider. I tried both solutions mentioned by PragmaticS and ccJohn. I got connected for about 5 minutes and then lost it again. I have a streaming TV service and a chromebook which are connected with no issues. I have been a faithful HP customer up to this point but now I'm not so sure. Shocking that so many people with this same model are having this problem and HP doesn't seem to care.
