I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi- I have been slowly struggling with a password issue with my Ideapad U530 over the last few months.  The problem is, when I try to acces the BIOS via the Novo button, I am asked for a "system password". However, I did NOT set this password, so I cannot access the BIOS. In terms of other passwords, such as Windows User/Admin, and boot, there is no problem. The only unique thing that I have done with this machine which I could think of the <might> be related to the BIOS password issue, is that I used the Novo button to access the built-in restore tool (I forget what Lenovo calls it exaclty, but it is a system restore application), and I told the machine to re-image itself back to the built-in, out-of-box image. This process worked fine, though, and logic would tell me that this c/would <not> affect the BIOS. Has anyone else run into this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for reading and/or replying. -Chris p.s. - USB booting appears to be disabled. Actually, that was why I first tried to access the BIOS ...to enable USB booting. So, my ability to troubleshoot may be heavily limited by my inability to boot to the internal hybrid HD. p.p.s - the machine is under warranty until September of this year. I've spoken twice with Lenovo support, who were unable to help me. They mentioned the possibility of removing the SMOC battery, though I believe that this will not work since it is the year 2015. They also refe... Read more

A:unknown "system password" (aka BIOS password) on Ideapad U530

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  With a laptop, removing the battery will not clear a BIOS related password.  That only works with desktop models.  Unfortunately forum rules prohibit further discussion on how to circumvent the BIOS password.  This is due to the ease in which laptops can be stolen.  I would suggest contacting Best Buy again and see if they can further assist you especially if the laptop you purchase had been a floor display.  Otherwise the only remedy to the password problem would be to replace the motherboard.

Unknowingly, I got into the BIOS of the computer and set a Power On Password. How can I disable it? I know the password, but it's a nusance and rather not have to go through that every time I turn the machine on. I tried talking to HP chat support, and they walked me through a Restore Security Settings to Factory Defaults but that didn't work.  If if anyone can offer a step by step solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

A:How to disable power on password

Hi: This is the procedure that works for most HP consumer notebooks.  That would be the only suggestion I can offer. Use your password to enter the BIOSDisable all passwords that are enabledIf asked for current password - type your password. For new password, just press ENTER keyRepeat the same for verify password column. Then leave the BIOS by saving & exit option to save the changes.

Cannot boot...help......

Some how someone set a password on the Bios setting to a computer at the office. When I try to boot up now it will prompt me for the password. Apparently, the person who use the computer did not set the password and don't know who did.

How do I disable the Password. I've try flashing the Bios, but did not work. I need to disable the password first according to American megatrend, inc before I could attempt to flash the Bios. I've even try pulling out the CMOS battery, and reboot. still I get the same results. Do I have to leave the Cmos battery off and let it drain first and then try again to reset itself?

Any other solutions out there, please?

Thanks in advance,
CF

A:Need to disable BIOS password setting

You may need to leave the battery out for a little longer, also, there may be a jumper near the battery that when set correctly then returned to normal will also clear BIOS settings. We would need more information on the motherboard to be sure though.

Of course its possible?
But you have to know the old, set password.

> I know the password, but I can't delete it.
First of all you have to type the old password.
Then in two further windows, you have to confirm with the ENTER button.
Then safe the changes and exit the BIOS.

Hello everyone.I am currently scanning my fingerprint at boot-up which is then passing through my HDD bios password and automatically through my Windows Hello logon. All with 1 fingerprint swipe at boot-up. I would like to know can i choose to block the automatic pass through the Windows Hello logon after that 1 single swipe ? Is that possible ?Considering that i set up my IR camera at the same time to unlock my computer i would prefer to have 2X verification instead of just having Windows Hello skipped after the fingerprint authentification in the Bios.  Why I am asking that ? Well, simply to avoid having the need to survey my computer at the job after the boot. Considering that i have some services and Hyper-v machines which can take time to start and which i do not want to wait, i would like to boot up my computer to lock screen and leave it to finalize loading "locked !" while i am away. This 1 single swipe config is just making me slave of the booting of my laptop each time i turn it on. Thank you in advance.

Hello, i have an issue with forgotten power on password on HP compaq 2510p.  It doesn't show up any code.Impossible to get to bios or boot menu. Any solution? with regards,  Karlo

A:BIOS power on password

Hello smokeR48,  There is no master password or generator for EliteBooks or ProBooks. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks  or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Please have a look at this link. http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/49497-HP-Probook-Elitebook-BIOS-Password-Reset-Utility Replace the BIOS chiphttp://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Elitebook-8470p-8470w-8570p-8570w-8770w-Programmed-Bios-Chip-No-Password-... Please Contact HP Business Notebook support they should be able to send you a customized SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.  When talking to the HP rep ask them to escalate your service request.  Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee
