Lenovo T430 Battery will not charge

Q: Lenovo T430 Battery will not charge

Hey Lenovo Forum:

I'm having a battery charging problem that seems slightly different from any on this forum so far. I just acquired a T430 running Windows 7 (64-bit) like a charm. After a few issues with the audio drivers, everything has been running smoothly.

Abruptly, yesterday, when I plugged it into the wall socket (the same socket that it had sucessfully charged on earlier) it failed to charge. Thinking it was the outlet, I tested it. The outlet and adapter are both working fine (the adapter powers the computer no problem with the battery removed from the system). The lock switch on the battery is in the propper position (i've tried both). The battery is not overheated (it's cool to the touch). I tried removing everything and holding the power button (apparently that discharges some built up charge in the system) then reconnecting the battery and AC adapter, nothing.

I just downloaded the power manager which (when the laptop is, in fact, running off of AC power (the battery charge indicator hasn't draining in hours of continuous use) reads:

i have also tried reinstalling and updating the "Microsoft ACPI - Compliant Control Method Battery" driver in the Device Manager. Nada.

In summary, the machine is fully functional when tied to wall power, but the battery won't charge. The only thing I have yet to try is using the Energy Manager to perform a battery gauge reset, which I'll try tonight (but hopes are not high). Am not really looking to replace a battery that's basically brand new and seems to be in otherwise perfect quality.

On the off-chance that this is a helpful piece of information, I am using the power adapter to standard wall power in India. Don't think that should be an issue - the computer had no issues charing for a few days here and other devices have no issues.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
aaron

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have received a new OEM 6-cell battery for my T430 2344-DAG running Windows 10, OS and system fully updated. I find contradictory advice about the recommended first charge routine: charge for 24 hours, do three deep cycles, reset battery gauge, or alternatively don't do any of these actions. I would greatly appreciate advice on the current recommendations.

Hi,I replaced the battery of my T430 two months ago. I have not used it too much, it has got maximum 10 cycles in it. Now programs like aida64 tells that the designed capacity of the battery is 86580 mWh and its fully charged capacity is 80090 mWh. The laptop has been reinstalled since the battery changing. So, now the battery is 7% worned. But if we look at the real designed capacity (93600 mWh after the first charge) it is 14%.Isn't that wear too high after 10 cycles? Should I send the battery back to the shop where I bought it? Thanks,

Okay so I have a 6 month old G51-35 Laptop that I've been using for gaming. Then earlier this morning when I was playing, the battery went down to 25%. I plugged it in and it didn't charge. I wondered why, and then I thought the power in the outlet was just not flowing so I'll just plug it into a different one later, and as soon as it hit 10% I panicked. I kept searching up solutions, but nothing popped up. So I then told my brother, by the time the laptop was at 1%, and he did some tests on the laptop. A couple hours later he told me that he doesn't know what the problem is, and so I started really freaking out. I searched up the prices for a new battery pack, but there wasn't anything for the g51-35. I then looked at the laptop prices, and it was a whole load of bull because the laptop itself cost $559. My parents would kill me if they found out, but I don't know what to do next. I think the laptop is overheated, but I don't have the tools to be able to clean it. Please help. Thanks.

Hi CheekyB and welcome to the community,

Does it run ok plugged in?  It is just not charging?

If it does, then it probably is a bad battery and there is a year warranty on the battery.

Hi guys,  My battery is no longer going above three percent when plugged in. I have a lenovo y40, the warranty just expired last month, and lenovo is not really helping. I'm very frustrated. Everything was fine, until I turned my computer on this morning and realized it wasn't storing power. After reading around on the internet I determined a few things. A) The battery itself is fine, I ran a battery report... and it shows a sudden drop from 97% to 0% to 2%, and then back to 100% in a matter of minutes. Battery Log   < Click to see my log B) I think the issue is primarily a software one, becuase when I disable microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery in device manager my computer still runs for hours at 0% without being plugged in. Anyone else have this issue or know a solution? I'm a college student and I need this laptop to work on the fly for me. It's barely been over a year, and im already having issues.... someone help I can't afford a new lp!!!!

A:Lenovo Y40 Battery wont charge.

In response to customer reports of unexpected battery gauge behavior on Y40-70 and Y40-80 laptops, Lenovo determined the battery gauge software is performing as expected. The unusual gauge results being reported are a reflection of the battery reaching end of life.

Lenovo has released a Service TIP to assist customers with obtaining battery replacements under warranty, or if out of warranty, to find a replacement battery from Lenovo-approved vendors. The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-I0023

The part numbers for Y40-70/80 batteries are:
Y40 SP/A L13M4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500248
Y40 LG L13L4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500249 substitute part 121500251
Y40 CP/C L13C4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500259 substitute part 121500251

To determine which battery came with your Y40 notebook, instructions for removing the bottom cover can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual pdf here. An alternate to opening your system (which does not void warranty) is to search for batteries using the model/product number located on the bottom cover.

I bought a new battery for my X140e Laptop. It fits perfectly, and the computer runs on the new battery. But it will not charge. At the moment the meter indicates "37% available (plugged in, not charging). " Have scoured the Internet, tried various fixes, including shutting the laptop down, taking out the battery, holding the off button down for 10 - 30 seconds, still no joy. I also often get "The battery installed is not supported by the system and will not charge." But it always boots (Windows 7) and runs fine, except it just won't charge the battery.  I confess, it's an aftermarket battery, not a Lenovo battery. But how can that company stay in business if their batteries never work? Any advice warmly welcomed!  Cheers, Jim

I have bought this Lenovo laptop some months ago, but I still haven't figured out a way to change the charge for my battery from 59% to 100% in Ubuntu. I know that is possible by installing the Lenovo power management utility on Windows, but unfortunately, that would require me to wipe my system, install Windows, and then reinstall my system. Through a web search, I have found that it is possible to get a full charge by resetting the CMOS, but I have not found instructions on how to do it on the Lenovo G40-80. I have tried shutting down, disconnecting the AC and the battery, and holding the power button for 1 minute, but it did not work! Another tip I have found in the Arch Linux forums, and tried without success was shutting down the laptop, removing the battery with the AC plugged in, holding the power button for 20 seconds, placing the battery again, holding more 20 seconds, removing the battery, holding more 20 seconds, powering on the laptop, and then reinserting the battery again... I'm going on a long trip tonight, and having a full charge would be extremely important to me! Thank you for your attention!

I have a Lenovo YT3 850f that crashed after attempting to upgrade to android 6.0. I brought it back to factory settings using "YT3-850F_USR_S000025_1510160911_Q1241_ROW_factory_update".The issue I have now its that when I power on the tablet and the system starts up it shuts down soon after because it does not recognize the charge in the battery. If turned on while plugged in I can run initial settings but still shuts down a few seconds later saying battery power is too low and charge showing as charging but at 0%The battery charges just fine when plugged into the cord "slow white flashing light" and I can keep it on for hours under the bootloader screen or under recovery mode without the tablet being plugged in, in fact I've never reached a point in which it turned off on its own with those two methods. I have already tried such things as holding down power button for 20-30 seconds but since not turning on at all isn't the issue all that does is turn the tablet on and off a few times. I tried to use fastboot and adb to look into it but adb does not recognize the device and what I can do with fastboot is extremely limited since I don't get enough time with the tablet being on to go into the settings and turn on developer mode. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the system to recognize that the battery is charged?

There is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. Then select the mode and voila!!

Hello.I seeking for help on this issue. I bought my Lenovo Yoga 510 about seven months ago, and today when I opened Lenovo Settings to check for updates, I saw the disclaimer that my battery can only charge 34% of its original capacity. Is it possible that a battery in its proper condition can detereorate like this in such a short period of time, or should I claim for a warranty solution? https://imgur.com/a/sZckaDg

I would call support.  They will most likely ask you to run a battery guage reset.  If after reset its still like that and laptop is under 1 year old and under warranty in my opinion they will replace battery.

Dear all, I just purchase Lenovo V310 14-IKB with double battery. No problem with my main battery, but the problem are in my backup battery (the detachable one). I start to replace the DVD Rom with this battery and charge it, but after 80% it stop and said "80 plugged in and not charging". I want this battery charged to 100% too, same as my primary battery. I need it because I often work mobile and charge until 100% helps me to stay without charger for longer. I already searched for the solutions, read posts from forums.lenovo.com, install apps and drivers (Lenovo Utility, Lenovo Vantage, etc.) but there was no exact solution for this issue. Does anyone from this forum experience the same issue? If yes, is there any solution to make the Lenovo V310 14-IKB charge into 100%? Please help me. Thank you.

Hi,

I have a Lenovo Z50-70 running Windows 8.1. The laptop is relatively new, bought in Jan. 2015.

Some time ago, the original battery suddenly started to have a problem where it would say 45% available, plugged in, not charging. No matter what fixes I tried (after looking through a lot of articles, posts, comments, etc.), nothing made the battery start charging again. It always stays at 45%. Also the battery light/indicator on the front of the laptop is always blinking white.

So I got a new battery, put it in hoping that it would work and charge up to 100%, but the new battery is having exactly the same problem as the original old one! It will only charge up to 45%, then it says plugged in not charging. The battery light is again always blinking white.

What do I do? How can this be fixed? What's going on?

Appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

check the warranty is still active, as thats one route you could take with a relatively new laptop.

also, try uninstalling the energy management and restart the system and check for the issue. also try uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI from the device manager and restart the system and check for the issue. for more info on this action see this thread in the link:

Hi All, It seems many people are having this issue as I scour this forum. My Lenovo y40 is less than a year old, so still on warranty. It recently (May 19th) began to have battery problems. It shows 100%, Charging, when plugged in. But, as soon as I unplug the charger the battery drains quickly or shuts off immediately. Other times, the battery will hold its charge and stay on for a few hours. It's very intermittent, it seems like the laptop has trouble reading the actual battery level. I have tried everything already recommended on this forum, reinstalled drivers, reset the battery guage through Energy Manager. What gives? The laptop is too new to have a faulty battery, and it was working perfectly up until a few days ago.Anyone else having this issue, do I really need to use the warranty already? Argh...

Dear Sir  Welcome to Lenovo Community first of all lets do small troubleshooting steps, if its working ok if no so you have to deliver your device to the Service center to replace the battery if it still under warranty. ( find the list of service center link at the end of the message )if you do not have the power manager or power management you can download it from the below link:http://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y40-80/downloa...after installing you have an option inside called battery gauge reset, you have to make it night when u do not use the laptop cause this operation will take more than 6 hours to full charge the battery then difull charge then full charge again to refresh your battery, after you do that try your machine, if the battery still drains fast so you can visit the nearest service center to your place. https://support.lenovo.com/eg/en/contactus/supportphonelist Best Of Luck

Hello, I have a much-beloved Flex 3 maybe 10 months old.First question: The battery says it's charging, but it's not actually charging. I"m guessing the battery's shot? I don't have the tools to open the thing up and try disconnecting the battery yet. Second question: Assuming it's dead, is there any problem with runnning the laptop just on the power adaptor? I did see that for other models this seems to be ok. I'm outside the US right now and have little hope of getting a new battery until July. Every day the battery decreases 1%, and eventually it'll be gone. I can wait until I get back if I can run on a dead battery. Currently at 57%.In case it's relevant, I'm in West Africa in 220V land.(As a side note, I dropped the thing when I first arrived and the screen cracked, but it hasn't lost any functionality so far, so kudos to Lenovo for that!) Thanks in advance for any help or advice. I do appreciate it.

A:Lenovo G51-35 plugged in, doesn´t charge and battery % decreases

Hi Kevinottokoit,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

The hardware manual provides the steps for check operational charging that you can perform her in page 21-22.

Taking note of the same battery indicator (I am expecting that is is blinking amber for less 20% charge), keep the computer powered off and connect the ac charger for 2-3 hours without turning it on. We are expecting the battery indicator to go from amber to white to know if the battery does charge.

Other wise you may want to check a known good battery to test the machine or use the same battery on another compatible model to verify if the battery really needs to be replaced.

I hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how things go.

I have an X1 with the model code 1291CTO. It is about six years old and has worked smoothly since I purchased it. I added a solid state drive three or so years ago, and purchased the additional "wedge" battery right about four years ago. I'm running Windows 10, version 1903. The laptop works fine with the additonal battery installed, except that the main battery shows 0% charge and never seems to charge. The additional battery does charge to about 80% and the laptop works ok. If I remove the additional battery and unplug the transformer, the laptop will show a critical low power error and won't boot. If I plug in the transformer then the machine boots ok, but if I remove the AC power, the machine dies immediately. This is what you would expect if the main battery really has no charge. I've tried using Device Manager to uninstall and reinstall the battery, but that doesn't seem to have any effect - the machine won't boot unless I add the extra battery or plug in the transformer. There is a little battery icon in the right side of the task bar: if I hover over it with the additional batteryu not connected, it tells me I have 255% charge, which is rather odd. Given that the laptop is 6 or 7 years old, it is maybe not surprising that the battery is not in good shape. I don't mind purchasing a new one and installing it, but is there a set of troubleshooting steps I should follow before replacing the battery? Rather, there is no indication that the laptop is plugged in at all. The battery level indicator does not have the plug icon on it. However, as mentioned before, if I remove the battery completely and plug the laptop in with the AC adapter, the machine works fine. After the battery was completely dead (the machine wouldn't even turn on with the battery installed), I tried leaving the laptop plugged in with the battery installed overnight with the machine turned off. The next morning, I started the machine, and the battery level indicator in Windows showed the battery level at 1%.  Is this most likely a problem with the motherboard, the battery, the AC adapter, or something else?

Since my last update of the Lenovo Companion on my T470 I have lost the ability to modify my battery's charge thresholds. Is there a way for me to get access to this setting again ? This feature allow me to increase my battery's lifespan (https://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/solutions/ht078208) I have tried applying the following method in my registry settings, but it's not always working : https://www.lenardgunda.com/thinkpad-battery-charging-thresholds/ I also appreciated being able to visualize the battery comsumption and number of cycles in lenovo settings but seem to have lost the ability to visualize this information too

Hello,My battery will typically charge all the way up to 100%. Once there, it generaly stops charging until it reaches around 10%. And then the cycle repeats. Sometimes the charging will vary (for instance, at 6% instead of 10%), and will sometimes only charge to maybe 30% or so. Another case that happens is my battery will start charging at say 90% up to 100%, then stops.I have had a previous issue where my charger stopped working so I bought a new one. I thought that was the issue again so I bought another one but nothing has changed. *note-> I'm running windows 7 operating system on my laptop (I found it makes my laptop run faster then windows 8 or 10).I'm a CS student and badly need my laptop as one might imagine. I greatly appreciate any help that I receive!

Sometimes my battery will not charge, and i'm not able to force it by moving around with the computer or the charger. Other times it's charging and i can not make it not charge. It's charging 80% of the time. Maybe it's a loose end or has anyone tried anything similar?Best regards Soren

Just bought a Thinkpad T495 in Lenovo's web-shop and got delivered via UPS. Unfortunately the laptop's battery charge except for a very limited period (2-30 sec) when the charger-cable is plugged in to the computer, thereafter Window's battery/charge status indicator switched to "Plugged in not charging" which renders the laptop useless. Lenovo's technical support in Sweden have issued a DOA-request. Unfortunate Digital River, which is the party handling Lenovo's official webshop's, don't answer on emails nor do they have a proper function to initiate Returns and Cancellations (just get Error Number: SEC_000329). Please advise on how to proceed. Thanks!

this is my first Lenovo computer, I bougth it form a friend that was not using the laptop because he lost the charging cord and was lazy to buy a new one, I bought the laptop for 300 bucks, and managed to find an used cord for 20 bucks, the battery was dead when i pluged it in, but it did turn on when I pressed the power button and the battery charging indicator light was blinking, just as normal, the problem arrived when I discharged it enough that windows asked me to plug in the cord, when I did nothing happend (the computer did not recognize the cord on the task bar and the battery light was not blinking), I was worried thinking that the cord was not good (since it is the 90w version), but to my surprise, the battery porcentage was rising up, but the time remaining was not rising, but when it reached 100%, the time refreshed and all is normal now. the only thing is that when I disconnect the cord it jumps form 100% to 95% instantly.. What should I replace?
