Lenovo G505s not booting

Q: Lenovo G505s not booting

Hidy ho all,

I have a Lenovo G505s I bought in august. Up to this point, its been a great machine. This morning (11/20/2014) I installed some updates from windows update. around 4:30 PM today, I rebooted the machine, because I had an hour break in between classes. During that reboot it tried to install those updates, and it said it failed. After the failure it said it was reverting back to the prior state before the updates were installed.

It then rebooted again. It got to the Lenovo splash screen, and some little white text on the bottom of the screen has said for the past half hour "Updating your system (5%)" with the windows 8 little circle thing spinning around just above it.

I did try restarting it by holding down the power button, but it came right back to this screen.

Google has turned up nothing yet. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, have they (you) been able to fix it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think the quickest way around this issue is to let the OS try to install the updates it might take a while to do so(which is a pain) but I would wait because you don't want to mess up your system you might loose more than the time you will wait

Hi, I have a Lenovo G505s currently running on Win 10. This weekend the computer received an automatic update (Windows update) for the AMD Radeon HD 7640G + R5 M200 Dual Graphics. After this update, the computer will not boot, resulting in a blue screen. I have to start in Safe Mode, install an older driver, and on next reboot, the system is booting. But then the automatic windows update is starting installing the new driver again and the computer shuts down and can't be started. A hint anyone? Thanks in advance.

Good day and welcome to the community.

Sorry you're having issues. In your case, you may need to disable Windows 10's ability to update hardware device drivers.

If you want to explore this, see: http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/stop-automatic-driver-updates-windows-10
The dialog box changed a bit after the 1511 (10586) update, but the process of getting there remains the same, and driver updates via Win10 WU have remained blocked for me. I have updated one of my Win10 machines to the Anniversery Update, and it apears that things are holding.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

Guys, I've had my Lenovo G505s for pretty much 2 years now. I have a poor battery performace. Recently my charger malfunctions. It won't work till i have placed it at an agle of the charging port, meanwhile if i use another charger from a friend, it works very fine without struggle. Initally, i thought it was my charging port but I'm sure that it's not now. Also, recently my friend swapped his battery for mine (he had 50% charge on his battery), as soon as he put it into my laptop, he saw that it was around 28%. A few minutes after that, the battery died. *One Key Optimizer tells me my battery is weak and needs replacement. Battery capacity is at 42%. My question now is :1. Do i just need a new battery and a charger?? OR2. Could it be from my motherboard? (I'm running the AMD A10 with Radeon gpu) I'd really appreciate suggestions from you guys.  Thanks.

my g505s with a10 has serious heating issues even after bios update. whenever i play games, after a while the gpu temperatures shoot up to 85-90 degrees and the game starts stuttering immensely. the fan runs painfully slow. only the lenovo energy management software can control the fan by the dust removal feature. this works for only about a minute. i have tried all fan control softwares but they don't even detect my fan. msi afterburner, speedfan, even amd overdrive can't detect the fan and i'm really dying now. i would please appreciate any help on this as soon as possible.

A:lenovo g505s fan problem

Hi Mngabriel,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G505s Laptop?s temperature is increasing while playing game. There is no other option to increase the FAN speed, the only way to make the FAN run in good speed is by switching the power plan to ?High Performance? mode and then you can choose fan control modes in your Windows Power Plan settings. Select the power icon in the notification area and click "More power options." Click "Change plan settings," then "Change advanced power settings." In the ?Processor power management? submenu, you will find the "System cooling policy" option, if your laptop is equipped with heat sensors. Selecting "Active" runs your fan more frequently, at lower temperatures; "Passive" leaves the fan off until the laptop reaches a higher temperature. Below is the link for the same:

Hi there. I've posted a couple of times before about my G505s not starting. I eventually managed to get it started and have used it for the last two weeks. When I've finished I've been using the sleep mode and it's started everytime from sleep. It failed again after using shutdown and so I decided to remove and clean the fan and re-apply the thermal paste as someone had suggested. I've done that and am now back to square one as it won't now start. I'd appreciate any suggestions to try to sort out this problem. Kind regards David

Well here we are again. I've done everything suggested as possible solutions for the laptop problem of not restarting after shutdown. I've cleaned the fan, re-applied thermal paste and run all the tests that are available on the Lenovo Solution Centre. I've checked the temperatures and they are around the 35/39 mark. It's run for several days with just putting it into sleep mode. Finally took the plunge last night and went to shutdown, and, yes, you've guessed it won't start again. Why oh why should this happen?????? I'm now at the point of giving up but I thought I'd post this one more time to see if anyone has any more idea's. Really grateful for ANY response. Kind regards David

Hello! I've owned my G505s since August 2014 and it has served faithfully as my school laptop. I do not have any money for a new laptop and I've looked at endless posts and articles, so I'm at my wit's end here. It all started last night, when my hard drive just failed to boot. It told me there was no OS installed, despite Windows 8.1 being installed. I rebooted a couple times and the same message popped up and I checked the BIOS settings. They were all correct. I assumed that my HDD became corrupted or something occurred, so I found a Windows 8 ISO from Microsoft's website and started installing tonight, since I knew the BIOS stored the key and would auto-input. That part was successful. The part that's killing me here, though, is the constant shutdowns now. It started ever since I had to reinstall. At first I just put Windows 10 Tech Preview on it to quickly get some work done since I had the install USB with me, but it shut down randomly there too. Now, during the install of the Windows 8.1 OS, it shuts down at random times and corrupts the installation, forcing me to start over and observe the same shutdown issue all over again. I do not have money to ship it and I'm losing my mind here. I thought Lenovo was good, but I'm seeing others with the same exact problem, and I'm several months away from having enough money for even a cheapo laptop. Can anyone help?Keep in mind that I can't even get past a Windows 8 install and booting a Live USB of Linux is a no-g... Read more

A:Lenovo G505s Randomly Shutting Down

hi Chripallo,

Welcome to the Forums.

It could just be a coincidence but It's possible that there's a hardware part that's failing inside the machine (e.g., Memory, Overheating GPU) which causes the shutdown issues.

Things that you can try:
1. Re-seat the RAM and HDD and try reinstalling Windows.
2. If you have two RAM sticks (e.g., 2x4GB), remove one stick and observe if you can now install Windows.
3. (Optional) Check this article on how to create a bootable USB diagnostics to test the RAM/HDD.
    - Sample image

Note:
You will need to set the following options in the BIOS to boot from a  USB
Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled
Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS.
Boot Tab:
UEFI = Disabled
Boot Mode = Legacy

If the problem remains and you're still not able to install Windows after doing the above steps then I recommend you contact lenovo for warranty service.

Hello guys. I got a Lenovo g505s for almost 1 year. In the first 2 months the processor was stable, 1.9 GHZ in idle and 2.3 or even 2.8 in games. But now I got a big problem. While the laptop is in idle, it stays somewhere at 2.3, and it never reaches 2.8 GHZ. While playing games, it dropes to 1.77GHZ or even lower somewhere at 0.88GHZ. I checked for dust, there is no dost. The thermal paste is new. It is set to High Performance. The bios is updated to 3.00 and all the drivers are up to date. What can I do to get my frequency back like it was when I bought it? Please answer, I tried everything, reinstalling windows, Windows Updates... I hear that some guys solved the problems.. but I don't know how.

Hello,

I have a question related to the BSOD on a Lenovo g505s which is running win7. When i try to turn the laptop on, it "loads" the windows, but suddenly crashes with a BSOD error:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

I tried the "Last Known Good Configuration" it doesnt help, i did a full disk check but nothing works for me. So my question is: Is the HDD damaged, or are the sectors bad? Should i replace the HDD or is there a solution for my problem?
Thank you for your answers in advance,

What did you use to do a disk check?

The error sure sounds like a hard drive failure but in a laptop is good to make sure the drive did not become loose and unplugged.

A:Lenovo G505s - question about upgrading RAM memory

Hi subhamzzz ,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community Forums.

Genral specifications for G505s :
- DDR3 / DDR3L * 2 SODIMM, 1600 MHz.- Dual channel for AMD Richland- Upgradeable to 32 GB Memory with two 16 GB SODIMMs

Lenovo recommend RAM listed on the hardware manual (item 16 page 83-84).
Regarding third party reseller options , best to check with specific manufacturer Corsair to match advantages of the higher priced RAM from a cheaper value of their product.

This may include heat spreaders , backward compatibility and auto detect speed technology offered in vengeance.

Sticking with OEM recommendation is still the best option but do not limit users to their choice as long as those choice works for them.

Hope this help answer your query.

Hi NeddyNelson ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try to reset the BIOS default and check if BIOS will detect the harddrive.
It may be the the harddrive itself is bad , so if you have another harddrive to test it with just to islate if BIOS would detect another harddrive.

Hope you manage to abck up your data , you may slave the harddrive in an enclosure and test it on another pc to diagnose its integrity .

Hi everyone , i have a G505S from many years, it's not bad but it's forst problem was the overheating of the APU GPU and the discrete GPU made by AMD..i tryed many solutions but this pass away for this moment. By reading about spectre(in this case) and Meltdown exploits i demand month by month the problem... but now after the extra heavy update of win 10, the problem just to say so simplifing are upgrade bios and amd driver:bios updgrade isn't impossible my battery overnow is exausted and so the software failed and close, so i remain in the first version..i don't know how upgrade in other way and then if it is enough to safe the bios from this problem(obviously before another one come to the public attention).AMD CPU(or better APU): amd a8-4500m + hd 7640g;and GPU : amd hd8500m o r5 m200;cause me the increscious problem that when i try to update the crimson sw and their driver after a specific version cause problem on the system and so i must fallback to the old version. The second way to update the driver with sw like D Booster or S Driver or similar they do a great job but update only the system driver without the Crimson or the Catalist management of the AMD graphic system...My product is out of warranty and it is otherwise a problem out of a technical shop...Please reply to this post, write your little solutions or suggestion.THanks everyone

Always a good idea to look at your service manual / maintenance manual for this information before you order parts...Go to the support tab on this site, enter in your specifics then select your computer from the list. One your support page loads, at the bottom you will find a link to documents, choose it and read up on your service manual. It has quite a bit of good information about updating or upgrading parts, including a white list of acceptable replacements and upgrade paths.Good luck.CB

A:lenovo G505s stuck in a 'diagnosing your pc' then 'preparing automatic repair' loop

Hi heidihamed  ,

Welcome to the Community Forums .

On a Windows boot loop , it would be an advantage if it can proceed on windows advance options for repair options.
Avoid any option for factory recovery since those would delete your files.

Initially turn off your pc and remove the battery and charger .
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds and release to drain remaining current.
Put back the battery and charger and use the Novo key (item5 page 4) to turn it on .
Choose  BIOS setup and press F9 for loading defaults , F10 to save and exit
How was it?

If the advance options showed up then we can proceed with troubleshoot and system restore that would allow you to just go back to a previous date before the problem with you keeping your files.

You may also create a repair image to help fix it from a different pc with same WIndows version.

Final option should be One key recovery  (page27) but this would delete your files so usually best that you try backing your files via harddrive enclosure and attach the harddrive on a different pc .
Else booting to a rescue media can help with back ups too.

Update us how things would go.

Regards

Hi,Since a few months I have a lenovo G595s with Windows 8 installed, the thing is I don't know much over computers, but last tuesday I was just working and my laptop was next to me without any task, and somehow when I was going to reuse the computer I wasn't able because the screen where all the apps are was frozen, so I tried with CTR ALT DELETE nothing happened, then I just turn it off, and since it only goes on with the Lenovo logo, in the under part says or appears Preparing automatic repair and like 1 min later it goes completely in black without turning off.I tried el the F keys at the beggining of the start, in the middle, with a windows CD as well, but I just don't get access to the BIOS or any other configuration, only black screen, doesn't matter how long I leave it on.If somebody could help me to find out what is happening with the computer.Thank you a lot

A:Lenovo G505s windows 8, preparing automatic repair then black screen

hi Dlskmalpik,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Automatic Repair usually kicks in if there's a problem loading up the files that's required to start Windows. If the repair was interrupted and the screen just goes into a black screen then there's most likely a hardware component that's malfunctioning.

To check, try to:
1.Boot into the BIOS by pressing the OneKey Recovery button

If successful, set the following settings in the BIOS:

Security Tab:
Secure Boot = Disabled

Boot Tab:
UEFI = Disabled or Legacy
Boot Mode = Legacy
Boot Priority = Legacy First

Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS or Disabled

When done, press F10 (or Fn+10) to save and exit and try to boot from your Windows CD (i'm assumming this is a Windows 8 disc).

2. If you're successful in booting from the Windows 8 Disc, see Step 1 to Step 2 of this guide on how to proceed in fixing the issue.

3. If the problem remains, consider re-instaling Windows by pressing the OneKey Recovery button and choose System Recovery

In an event that the recovery fails, I recommend you contact lenovo and report the issue as you may need to send the unit for service..

My Lenovo Laptop recently has stopped working. It turns on and everything, it just cannot boot up.The loading screen pops up and everything, but it won't go to the login screen. When I power the laptop on, it goes on the loading screen, and stays like that for a good 5-8 minutes, then gets an error message that says"Process1_Initialization_Failed"Then it tries to go into System Recovery, but after "Loading Files" it goes into the loading screen, then transitions into a black screen. There are no options, just a black screen.I wait for an hour, and absolutely nothing happens.I made sure nothing else is plugged in except for the Charger. The laptop is a Lenovo Y51.If you need anymore information, please ask. I really need this fixed soon.

My Computer data:Lenovo G50- 45Win 8 already being installedMy problem:Hey dudes,I wanted to start my PC as always but instead of starting my GUI, windows just showed me the message that "Automatically reperation is being prepared". I used to wait but after hours the computer stayed the same. I decided to use the "onekey recovery" but instead of recovering, the computer just showed me the lenovo sign and used to load. The same procedure, I used to wait hours, but nothing changed. After that I prepared an USB device and set win 10 (64) on it and wanted to let him boot from my device. After having a lot of problems, I found a page on the internet telling me to change to "legacy" mode and to disable secure boot. Well, done that and enter with "Fn and F12" the boot menu. Selected my USB device and he is really showing me a Win 10 logo. But, and thats my problem he isnt doing anything else. He is just showing me a loading circle with a big blue Win 10 logo. I dont know what I should do next. Any Ideas around here? I've heard that a Hardware issue could be possible, isn't it? While booting, I pushed different Keys and heard one single, loud Beeping. Any ideas what I could do guys?Would be really glad to hear from you  - Greetings

Every time I try to turn on my lenovo n22 windows notebook, the 'Lenovo' boot screens appears, sits for a moment, goes black, then comes on again. This has been happening on loop for hours. I have tried rebooting it, to no avail. Any thoughts?

My Lenovo B590 was working fine yesterday, today suddenly I can't make it boot up. I have recorded a video that demonstrates the behaviour of the Laptop on Power On:https://youtu.be/T9IcxsIgRcE It remains in an endless loop of powering up for a sec, making some click-sound and turning off immediately. Longpress power button ends the loop. AC cable is connected, battery is inserted. Things I tried that didn't solve the issue:Power On only with AC cable (normally and with 20 sec long Power press)Power On only with battery (normally and with 20 sec long Power press)Removing both RAM and trying it with one each in each of both RAM slotsProbably an issue with the motherboard? Anything else I could try?

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of the problem you are experiencing.  I would try removing the optical drive and then try powering the laptop up.  If that doesn't work then remove the hard drive and power up.  Since the click sounds mechanical in nature, that would lead me to suspect either one of those devices.  If the laptop powers up with a drive removed then suspect that drive as being faulty.

Your model's User Guide will explain how to remove those drives.  Here is a link to that manual for your reference.....
