Windows 7: Driver for MTP USB failed error 31 for Iphone & Kindle

Q: Windows 7: Driver for MTP USB failed error 31 for Iphone & Kindle

Just in the last week I can no longer view my Iphone 4 or my Kindle threw my computer in Windows 7 32 bit Professional. I have been a computer technician for 19 years and have tried everything I can find in Microsoft, Apple and Amazon. Amazon phone support could not even fix it. I receive the MTP USB error. I even formatted my harddrive, reinstalled windows and it still did the same thing with only Windows installed. I also installed Itunes to see if that would make a difference and I can see the phone in Itunes but not in my computer. It allows me to connect my Free Agent external just fine. Both the Iphone and Kindle work on my brother's 64 bit Windows Professional and my old xp machine as a camera, but at least I can get the pictures off that way. I have even purchased name brand USB cords for both products. I need to make them work in this system as this is the one I use for everything. Any help would be wonderful.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Locate the device in Device Manager.
> It will probably be listed under Portable or USB
> It will have a yellow icon
> If you right click->Properties on the General tab, Device Status should indicate code 31

Now look at the device Details tab. Use the pull down menu to carefully look and see if any Class upper filters or Class lower filters are listed. If you find any, copy/paste what's listed into next post

i recently purchased a Kindle Fire HD 7" (tablet), and i have 2 PCs running Win 7 Ultimate x64 w/SP1...on the one PC, when i connected the Kindle via USB, Windows recognized the Kindle as a USB mass storage device as it should , installed the drivers, and i was able to access the Kindle via Windows Explorer to transfer media

but on the second PC, when i connected the Kindle via USB, Windows recognized a new device, but the driver install FAILED, and i got an error message stating "MTP" Driver could not be installed...i tried this several times, and always the failed driver install....i even did a fresh install of Win7 x64 on to a brand new HDD, and i got the same error again ...so obviously the Kindle does not show up in Windows Explorer, and i can't transfer anything to/from it

in Device Manager, under "Other Devices", i have "MTP" listed with the yellow triangle...i have tried letting Windows update the driver, but it always comes back with unable to locate a driver

i've contacted Amazon, but they're clueless, and believe it's a Windows issue...i've searched everywhere online, and it seems i shouldn't need any special drivers with Win7, and that Win 7 should install the device automatically as a "mass storage device"...and as i mentioned, on one of my PCs, the install worked fine, it's the second PC that is driving me nuts

what can possibly be the problem?

I just got the new iPhone 4S and I have a 3GS as my old phone with no way to transfer my contacts. I was told I could save a backup of my 3GS to itunes, then load the backup onto my 4S.

Well my 3GS won't backup, it keeps saying "iTunes could not backup the iphone because an error occurred" without any error code. I've wiped my old backup, I've cleared sync history. I'm using a PC with itunes with the latest itunes version 10.5.

What can I do to get my contacts over to the new phone?

As mentioned, I have a Kindle App on my Windows 10 tablet. I just bought and received my first book for the Kindle App. Right now, I have no idea if its on my tablet or in the Cloud. If I have it, is there any way to back it up to a flash drive so I don't loose it? I do have a habit of messing with the tablet and ending up using a earlier restore point or repairing Windows 10.

p.s. Anyway to print a page or two from a Kindle book?

Hi,

Since the 11/18/2012 event viewer (Event ID 219, Task Category 212) has been posting a warning:

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&0&STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN (followed by name of USB device)

It only occurs on start up if I have a USB memory device plugged into a USB port. The USB memory device functions perfectly and the error never occurs when I plug in and out a memory device after boot up.

The error only occurs for memory devices like memory sticks, external USB hard drive does not cause this error.

Checking back to around the 11/18/2012 I see nothing that I have changed/installed that might indicate something that has caused this. No other Windows 7 failures or issues.

Booting a second hard drive with windows 7 on the same system (I have this second installation for testing faults etc), the issue does NOT occur.

From checking forums and searching I have found a few others with this issue and a few articles on its cause

WUDFRd failed to load for the device

Event ID 219 is logged after you install Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

I was just curious as to why it would suddenly start occurring after a particular date when as far as I can tell I have not made any changes to anything around this date.

Also I wondered if there was a fix to stop this, other than removing a memory stick before boot up!

Any thoughts?

A:The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device... error

I just started getting this exact same error message logged in Event Viewer when I plug a USB stick into a USB port. It happens with two different sticks from two different manufactures, but it does not happen every time I plug them in. It seems that it may mostly happen the first time I plug a stick in after I have booted up my PC.

Have you been able to find a solution to get these error codes to stop logging?

try this.

The Wudfusbcciddriver.dll had to be manually copy/paste into the folder:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\UMDF,

Take it from the C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wudfusbcciddriver.inf_amd64_neutral_5cbd2ae76abeb770

as it ain't install itself if there's no USB-ICCD-compliant smart card device or SD Cards plug onto an Usb Port.

Reboot for the dll to register.

Every time I plug it in it just pops up with USB device not recognized and or has Malfunctioned and this is on multiple computers my laptop with XP pro and my Desktop with Win 7. I have tried entering recovery mode and I can get the screen on the iPhone to show up where it has the USB cable and then says Itunes but nothing shows up in Itunes that says it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. It did it once on my Laptop first time I tried and I clicked update and restore and it began downloading ios 5 but then after it finished downloading the ios nothing happened it just sat there and did nothing. Now every time I try to go into recovery mode Itunes doesn't pop saying it has detected a iPhone in recovery mode. If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Also...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log

Hi guys, it's been a long time since I've been here and don't remember all the tools, but wondered if you could help me out with my laptop.

On the 11th it tried to install about a dozen updates and one of them made it choke.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc driver update for AMD SMBus is marked as failed 9 times in the log.
I went through the trouble shooter which fixed four of the five issues.
Tried restarting, but it still shows as failed and the laptop was running very slow/locking up for the next 30 minutes.

I am currently running the trouble shooter a second time to see if it can find and fix the remaining problem.

Does anybody have any magnificently timely ideas that will just blow this thing out of the water?
I would appreciate any input.
Thanks!
Kimberly

Windows Update error 0x8024402C(2018-09-13-T-12_59_38A) Not fixed

The laptop seems to be running at normal speed now, and I'm wondering if that update is really necessary.
Microsoft marks it as Important.

The next step from support.microsoft has me renaming software distribution backup folders.
Any thoughts?

Hey,

My PC was turning itself off lately for no reason and with no message. so I thought it was some kind of a virus and I came with a solution.. Windows reinstall.

Now there is a problem. I don't have my old OS anymore, because I did change particions on a disc just before installing fresh copy. The new XP I'm trying to install goes down just after light blue instalation screen - the one after WinXP logo apears. And that stops instalation process.

Than I'm getting BSOD with "Stop 0x000000B4 The video driver failed to initialize" message. Alternatively PC turns itself off without any message. The instalation from CD went smoothly.

I can't run safe mode, enable VGA does not work too, basicly whatever I do in this F8 menu gets ignored by my PC.

I've read some posts on forum, but it seams like all people already have OS working when they first recived the error message.

Any ideas what to do? I'm not too advanced in IT, so bear in mind I can ask stupid questions...

Prebuilt Gateway PC - FX6860
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Processor: Intel Core i7 3770
Card: AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB
12GB RAM

I'll try to describe what's happening as best I can. I've run into multiple issues when trying to either record game footage with Fraps or when trying to render videos in Vegas Studio 11 HD. What ends up happening is the screen will go black for 2 to 5 seconds and then come back with Graphics driver has failed and recovered. The application I'm using at the time will remain a blank window while the desktop and everything else will reappear. I am also unable to close out of the application I was using without using the task manager to do so.

I'm not computer literate and so I can't really do much. I had a friend run memtest and it came back normal. All my drivers are up to date, windows is up to date. So far this issue has only happened when using Fraps and Vegas so I'm not sure if this is purely a software problem or if it indicates something is wrong with a component in the computer.

One other thing to note is that under the CCC I've monitored temps with both the side of my tower on and off when this error happens. With the case on it was running at 61c and with it off it happened with it at 43c. This would lead me to believe it isn't related to my machine running to hot.

In the action center after this happens it lists video hardware error and the following:

You guys have never failed me in the past, time to try a new question...

I have a DELL 1710 Printer on a small, Windows 7 home Ultimate machine that sits in a closet (it runs a public file kiosk program for a group of radio stations. Nothing work intensive.) I had the printer shared across our work network, and I had it on my desk machine, (Win 7 64 bit.)

Hi, guys.

When I want to install certain programs, there is a set of error messages that makes the installation fail. They're as follows:

"c:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL. An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

If I push "ignore" then this message appears:

"c:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'close' to terminate the application."

I have a feeling that this is caused by a Norton antivirus program I installed couple years ago that I had a heck of a time removing. Could there be a chance that some parts of the program is still lingering to cause this?

I've been having this problem for the longest times and threw away a bunch of software because I simply couldn't install them. It's soooo frustrating. Please help!

I have an MS Access 2013 application that opens a connection to an Oracle database via an Oracle client.
On occasion the application returns the following error when the ODBC connection is opened:
Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error
1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. (Oracle in OraClient11g_home1, C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\client_1\SQORA32.DLL).
This is an intermittent problem that is reproducible on several workstations (all running Windows 7 x64 with 32-bit version of Office 2013 and 32-bit Oracle client 11.2.0).

Many times the ODBC connection is established without a problemOther times the connection can be established by closing then re-opening the application onceOther times closing the re-opening the application several times does not help
The same application is being run on several workstations and not every user experience the problem at the same time. The problem may be chronic for one user whereas another user experiences no problem whatsoever.
All of the posts I have seen concerning this issue are for a persistent problem opening a connection and not an intermittent one. I am at a loss of how to diagnose this problem and would appreciate some direction.

A:SQORA32 driver could not be loaded. System error 1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed

After discussing this issue on another forum I was able to put together a workaround. I can?t report the issue to Oracle without having some kind of "support identifier" with them and have no idea of how to report this to Microsoft.
The workaround is based on the observation that a query that makes use of the ODBC connection never has a problem when run within the Access GUI; the connection issue occurs only when I run the query within VBA. So, I created a very simple query that selects
only one field (and actually returns no record) and uses the ODBC connection ? call it the ?peek? query. I use a form containing a control that is bound to the peek query. When my application launches I open the form, immediately minimize it (so as not bother
the user) then close the form. After this, I can use the real query in VBA.
The workaround has been in production for several months now and nobody has complained.

Tonight I decided to try out Win 7 Ultimate RTM (32bit) on my Lenovo T43. I have had pretty much a flawless install save for one glitch that came while installing drivers from Windows Update.

I got a failure to install message on the Intel Corporation - Display - Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family that the Updater was trying to install.

Here are the details:

Update type: Recommended

Is there any way I can go back and redownload and try to reinstall this again. Right now when I click on the Update button it says there are no more drivers even though this one failed to install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Trouble with failed driver on Windows Update

Hi GhostRaider, welcome to the forums.

You might want to try going Here and try running Intel's 'Driver Update Utility' and see if that gets a better result than Windows Update.

   Note
I had the same issue when first install Windows 7 with my Intel 945 Express Chipset, the update would fail every single time

Unfortunately, Intel have not yet released a Windows 7 (32/64) driver for the 910GML or 915GM so Vista drivers in compatability mode may be your best bet of the 'Utility' does not work.

Hope this helps

You have to reinstall your printer drivers or you're probably going to continue to get the error. If you are unsure how to go about updating your device drivers for the printer, I would suggest you start here:

Safe mode shouldn't be affected by nVidia driver.
It doesn't load in safe mode. Windows loads its own generic driver instead.

I have just recently built a new computer due to my old laptop freezing now and then while using Windows 7. After putting together the build I first loaded Windows XP and then shortly there after installed Windows 7 RC1. Trouble was I was getting random BSoDs that related to the memory. So I ran memchk and everything was fine. This lead me to believe a random driver was causing the problem. So instead of trying to figure out which I decided to take an offer from my University that allowed me to install Windows 7 RTM a day early.

First thing I did was burn the ISO to a CD using imgburn at 8x burning speed the verification said it was good. So I go to install from in Windows RC1 and first thing I notice is that the option to format the drive and set up new partitions was missing. So I figured okay, that's MS' way of getting people to upgrade/completely reformat.

So I restart my computer and it loads everything from the CD and looks like Windows installation is about to start when random it stops and goes to a screen that has the following:

Code:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.
2. Choose your language settings and click next.
3. Click "repair your computer
If you do not have this disc contact your system administrator or system manufacturer for assistance.

We have seen many problems with burning the ISO to DVD at higher than 2x speed. You will get errors, then somewhere in the install process it will fail.

Re-burn at max 2x speed.
Or, use a 4GB USB memory key, there has been a lot of successful installs this way and it's fast.

I'm wondering if anybody can help with the following.
I'm running Win7 Home 32-bit with all of the latest updates and also have the latest version of iTunes installed. I'm trying to connect an iPhone to my PC, via iTunes, but it is not recognised by iTunes, and I keep getting an error saying that it cannot read the iPhone.
However, the iPhone does appear in Windows Explorer (apparently as a camera, as I can read the DCIM file and look at the photos there), but as the iPhone is not jailbroken I cannot see any other files. The iphone is running iOS5.
From searching online, it appears that the problem may be that Windows thinks it is a camera, and has atatched a particular driver to it (an MTP driver). Others also suggest that I need to have the phone installed with a different driver (usbappl)
If I uninstall the phone or try and automatically update the driver then it says that there is no better driver.

I have also tried to specifically update it with the usbappl driver (by updating the driver and using the "have disk" option and then browsing to where the usbappl driver is installed). In this case I get an error saying that "the folder specified doesn't contain a compatible driver for your device).
Can anybody suggest how I can get Windows to update with the correct driver, or some other way of getting iTunes to see the iPhone.
Many thanks for your help.

A:iTunes unable to see iPhone. Driver problem?

Uninstall all itunes and related softwares (apple mobile device driver, bonjour, etc) and then reboot the PC. Then reinstall iTunes and connect your iPhone. While connecting your iphone, make sure your device is connected to the internet as it will download the driver from windows update.

Go to website of that company and try to download driver.

You may have to use another compter and download to a finger drive etc.
Once you have it, you can boot from the Windows DVD and try to install.

Alternatively, you can go to device manager, under view, check show hidden drivers. If you find one with a yellow marker, you can try to dowload from there.

I hope you can help me fix my dad's computer!! This site has helped me fix my laptop. I really appreciate you guys!!

On my dad's computer : I tried to update BIOS graphics driver per instructions for new larger monitor (which has not even been hooked up yet).

I went to the Dell website and entered the service code HPLW3G1 to find the graphics driver to update. I recall nvidia but now looking at the list that they have on that website, I am not sure what I downloaded. I saved it to desktop and then clicked to install it. I then got a small popup that said I must close all other applications. When I clicked ok on that little window - (so I could close the other applications that were open), it started installing anyway! I exited the install window (wrong thing to do? It said do not turn off power in red letters), closed applications. Then I restarted, because it didn't want to open google chrome.
NOW when I turn it on, the blue light on the on button lights up, sounds like the fan is running, but the monitor does not even respond, it goes into powersave mode. I tried another monitor, no change. The computer won't turn off, unless I hold the off button down for awhile. The wierd thing is that when the computer is unplugged, it comes back on when plugged in again. But there is never any flashing lights below the on button that indicates that the hard drive is working. I think this may be bad? I tried hitting F8 after turning it on, and nothing happens. I'm running fully updated W530 with Windows 10 Anniversary update; I have the latest graphics drivers for the W530 from Lenovo installed and have my BIOS set to use Nvidia Optimus.   When I plug a monitor into the VGA port it doesn't work and I get the following pop-up message from Windows: 'Display driver failed to start; using Microsoft Basic Display Driver instead. Check windows update for a new display driver. ' After this message there is only 1 monitor shown in the windows display settings.   I then updated the Nvidia display driver using device manager and rebooted, but this problem still remains.  I've tried changing the BIOS to use only the dedicated Nvidia GPU, but this doesn't work either.  I tried installing Nvidia drivers for this card from their website, but the install crashes my computer to a black screen and forced me to do a hard reset into safe mode so I could re-install the Lenovo driver package.   What do I need to do to get my external VGA monitor working in Windows 10?

Running Vista SP2 on a 64 bit machine means that iTunes is a little out of sync these days. The latest version you can run is 12.1.3.6...and it's (more or less) running just fine.

Problem is that the driver it installs for the iPhone does not appear to be fully visible to Vista, so it never initiates the "auto-play" routines when plugged in, so you can never download photos the normal way.

I've done full uninstall/reinstall of all things Apple. I've removed all non-present drivers. Even so, when I look in the Device Manager there's no Apple iPhone under the Portable Devices category, and the iPhone does not appear anywhere in Explorer.

iTunes is running & synching just fine. But grabbing photos from the phone's camera just doesn't seem to be available.

Are others having this problem? Is there a way for me to force the iPhone to get installed (visibly) in the Portable Devices area??

Welcome to Vista Forums davodavo. If the driver was visible in portable devices you could try updating it from Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. But since it isn't visible even after reinstalling, only one thought comes to mind: Have you tried the "64 bit - for older video cards" edition of iTunes 12.1.3.6, which is really 32-bit iTunes with an installer for 64-bit systems? My thought is that you might have better luck with the 32-bit driver. Support for Vista was already declining by the time iTunes became a true 64-bit application (e.g. a problem report is generated every time you close the program). Apple cautions against using it unless the 64-bit installer gives you a warning, but Vista users no longer have to worry about missing iTunes updates because support officially ended five months ago: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1784?...S&locale=en_US

To check for freezing/crashing you need to check several things.

You Shouldn?t Connect a Kindle to Your Windows 10 PC (Unless You Like BSODs)

Windows 10 Anniversary Update was launched a few weeks ago, after several months of testing as part of the Windows Insider program, but despite the many builds released to insiders, the final version is still causing some trouble on a number of PCs.

And one of the bugs that many users are experiencing these days is related to Kindle, as charging the eBook readers on PCs with Windows 10 Anniversary Update leads to the infamous Blue Screen of Death.

At the moment, it?s not exactly clear how widespread this bug is, but judging from the number of complaints that keeps growing every day, it?s one of those problems that Microsoft needs to fix as soon as possible. And the company has already acknowledged the bug in a statement, explaining that it?s working on a patch already (without actually telling when the patch could be released).

?We are aware of an issue with a small number of Kindle Voyager and Paperwhite e-Readers causing an unexpected behavior when plugged into Windows 10 devices after installing the Anniversary Update. We are currently working on an update to address this issue.?

No way to transfer eBooks to Windows 10 PCs
So basically, what is happening is that some users are getting a BSOD when trying to charge their Kindles using a Windows 10 PC that has already been upgraded to the Anniversary Update. For the moment, there doesn?t seem to be a workaround for this, so users?... Read more

So far i've tried everthing I could and had no luck fixing it.
I tried the NOrton fix (A file that unInstalles go back from dos) but it didnt work since the installation was not complete in the first place.
