Then I tried to do a back up and it failed and in my pictures library it says I have a folder from my external drive that does not exist so I need to delete that folder and the path I guess to make this work.Everything I have tried has not worked.

Preferred Solution: How to delete folder in pictures library.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

EDIT: This issue has been solved.

Hi there! This problem is slowly driving me crazy, and I'd appreciate anyone's insights.

My default Pictures library has somehow become a permanent clone of my Videos library. It's not that it's a copy of Videos, it's that both libraries have merged into the same entity. The "Pictures.library-ms" file literally does not exist; Windows is using one file and one set of options, yet displaying it as if there were two libraries. And it stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that "Pictures" can or should exist.

If I delete one of the "Videos," both links remain visible until I refresh the Explorer window, which makes them both disappear. If I try to delete one and then the other, Windows says it can't find the file (which makes sense, since the individual "Videos.library-ms" file is already gone).

If I delete all of my libraries and then select "Restore default libraries," both duplicates reappear as before. No "Pictures.library-ms" is ever created. I can manually create a new library called "Pictures," but it doesn't affect the presence of the duplicate Videos, and other applications, such as Windows Media Player, do not recognize it as the official Pictures library. (WMP only shows images in the Videos folders, and if I select "Manage Pictures library" from the WMP navigation pane, it opens the options for the Videos library.)

My libraries file, Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos had developed a problem.

When I click on Pictures, the picture folders appear, but immediately below, my document files appear as folders also.

If I delete a document file in the pictures file, the document also deletes in the documents file.

If I try to move the document file from the picture file to the document file, a window says its an Identical sub folder and won't go any further.

How can I remove the folder list of documents from the picture file without destroying those documents in the document file?

I think that this problem developed as I loaded an ArcSoft program to read slides into my computer.

I am trying to delete songs from my itunes that I do not like anymore to make some space on my laptop. I know that sometimes when I delete songs it pops up saying "delete from hard drive?". I want that to pop up always, but for some reason it doesnt sometimes. My friend said that it will only do that if you have itunes organizing the folders. So i deleted my preferences and made it so itunes will organize my music. However I still delete songs and they dont delete off my hard drive. I was told that the songs have to be in the itunes music folder, I had alot of songs in there, but some in a different folder. I thought maybe I could move the other folder into the itunes music folder, and then it would work. However now when I go to play some songs it says the file cannot be found. Anything I can do? HELP ME!

A:How do I delete songs from hard drive when I delete them from my Itunes library?

Because you moved the songs from where iTunes was used to looking for them they will not play - when each song comes up and the error message you described comes up you can click yes to find them and browse for them (you should know where they are if you put them all in one folder). This will re-establish the link to the song's new location in iTunes.
If you have lots to do, it may be faster to delete all your songs from iTunes (not your computer) and set up the folder on your computer properly - one My Music folder with all your music in there - they can be further sorted into subfolders if you want to. Then open iTunes, set the Preferences to "Keep iTunes folder organised" and "copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library" and import all your music from your My Music folder again.
When you get new music by whatever means and import them to iTunes it will automatically place a copy in the iTunes "iTunes music" folder for you and always know where to look for them.

I have a very strange problem:
I am using Windows Media Player 11 under Windows Xp Pro SP1 with all the needed updates.

I tried both methods: by monitoring my grafix folder, and via drag and dropping my files. Nothing happens. 0 added files...
First I thought, there are to many files, but also with single files or very small quantities (10) nothing happens.
It's a shame, I'm using WMP11 to stream stuff to my PS3, now I can't stream my pictures because WMP won't import them in its library.

Did anyone have the same problem, can anyone shed light on this strange mystery.

Hi dateacha, and welcome to TSF.

Some of us are on SP3 now. I would not advise you to go that far but, you have to get SP2. Not having it is leaving your computer open to all kind of problems. Microsoft updates has more of an effect on your system than you would think. Its imperitive that you get these updates asap.

Do that and tell me if you have the same problems.

I formatted my drive after I saved my favorites and my pictures to CD. Formatting cleared up the problem of two dial up connections. I tried everything on that. The duplicate connection is no more. Finally! Anyway, back to why I am posting again. I want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format). I have looked in Help and Support, but I can't seem to find anything. I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop. Is this what I should do then? Send them to the desktop and open them and send them from here to the My Pictures folder? It can't be that easy, can it? Let me hear from anybody.

A large number of files has disappeared from my computer and I can't find them anywhere:

I have a folder within the Pictures library entitled "To be printed" - it's where I dump all my photos from my phone initially before I sort through them to decide what to keep.

I had around 500 files in this folder (mostly JPEGS and a couple of MOV files). A few weeks ago I added 95 new photos to this folder. The next time I looked in the folder it was acting strangely. The new 95 photos didn't appear to be there and only the 500 or so old files were there. The files are arranged by day. When I clicked arrange by folder however the 95 new photos appeared and the other 500 disappeared - when arranged by day the folder told me I had 500 items in the folder and when I clicked arrange by folder I was told I had 95 files in the folder. I shut the computer down and the next time I logged on the folder only had the new 95 files and there was no sign of the 500 or so older files, no matter what I arrange the folder by. I've searched the whole computer for JPEG and MOV files and there is no sign anywhere.
Any ideas? I've hit a brick wall and can't think of anything else - the missing files are holiday pics and videos of my kids and I'd be gutted to lose them.

I used a software and extended my disk C the other day and apparently some settings are set back to default or somehow changed. It's been so long since my computer had any problems so I can't remember how to customize everything anymore...
So I use to have the pictures library to be arranged by month and I remember that the folders are grouped by year also. Like at the top it shows the year and then the pictures are arranged by month. Now it's set to "arrange by month" too but the years are not shown. Does anyone know how I can get the old look back? Thanks!

Now, set View -> Arrange by to Month.

Now, set View -> Arrange by to Day.

I am trying to share a folder of pictures with my wife who has a std user acct on our home computer. I have copied it from a CD to My Pictures and I see the folder in my pictures library. I've clicked on that icon and I've clicked Share With and I've clicked on homegroup (read) and I've manually entered her user name. The folder in my library shows "shared" at the bottom of the screen.

But when she logs on, that folder does not appear anywhere in her pictures library and unless she has access to my user acct she can't see the pictures.

What am I doing wrong?

A:Solved: why cant i share pictures in my library with my wife

The Share With option is for sharing with - another computer - not an account on the same computer.

For her to see the pictures, copy or move the picturea to the Public Pictures folder in C:\User\Public\Public Pictures where both of you can see them.

For some time now I have noticed that the "picture/image" on the icons in my libraries are sometimes there and sometimes not there!!??

This is affecting all libraries; music, docs, photos etc. (the same is the case in all of the drives)

When the pictures disappear they are replaced by a vertical shadowed strip (if there is more than one folder within the folder)

I have yet to spot a pattern for when the images are there or not there! But just lately it seems they are not there a lot more!!!!

Any ideas?

A:Library Icon pictures/images keep disappearing

Can you post a screen shot, so we can get a better of the issue.

You can also try to rebuild your Icon Cache folder. First you will need to 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'

To do this press the Windows Key + E (the windows key is near the space bar) > Tools (located in the toolbar) > Folder Options > View > click on 'Show Hidden files, folders, and drives'

Next open Windows Explorer (using the Windows + E keys) if it is closed from the previous instructions.

Go to C:/users/username/AppData/Local now find the file IconCache.db and rename it IconCache.db.old then restart you computer.

I have a directory of about a 1000 photos each with a varying number of descriptive tags (keywords) assigned to them. If you are serious about managing many pictures, tags are indispensable. It allows you to search and sort all photos in many simple and complex ways. I have been very successful in managing this collection in a Vista computer using Windows Explorer, View tab/Stackby/Tags. I recently copied this collection to my new Windows 8.1 computer and found the ?Stack by?, now ?Arrange by?, is only functional in Libraries. This has added some inconvenience. But more importantly it appears that the Pictures Library only seems to recognize a maximum of eleven tags per photo. Because of this limitation I now realize that when I try to find photos for certain tags they cannot be found. Secondly, several of the Tag icon groups, scattered throughout the whole set of these groups, have had their valid name replaced by the word ?Unspecified?.

These tag groups represent real tag groups but when I click on one of these groups (labeled Unspecified) I see the few photos that had no tags assigned to them. I added tags to all of these photos, but the ?Unspecified? labels remained and it still takes me to the same screen, but now saying no files found. Further, I have deleted most of the photos that had more than eleven tags and all of the ?Unspecified? tag group labels were corrected. (Of course, now missing the photos that I had deleted to test this problem.)

I had moved 'My Pictures' folder away from C: \Users\username\My Pictures when I first set the computer up and I had it in another partitioned drive (E.

For space reason I wanted to move it back to it's original location above and moved the whole folder across to the C: but instead of having it as a folder in the username folder as it should be I merged it in error with the username folder!

The folder is now named My Pictures and has the path C: \Users\My Pictures\ in the registry. I have (hopefully) attached the properties of the folder which shows that there is no location tab. The network path is shown as \\HOME\Users\username.

How do I clean up the folder back to it's standard user folder detail without the merged detail of My Pictures and I guess the easier part is to create a new My Pictures folder and point the registry to it (as per the detail in the top line).

All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented.

If it helps - I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.

I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update? Any help would be appreciated!

When saving to "my pictures", I went back to my "user" folder to find the pictures folder... but the picture I saved was actually saved to what appears to be a 'false' recycle bin; Only, this 'recycle bin' does not behave like the actual recycle bin, since I can browse and even open photos from within it, and it also does not have the "restore" option... When I try to change the name of the "recycle bin" folder to "pictures" (from the properties window) it says that there is already a folder with the name 'pictures', but then refers to the same 'recycle bin' with my photos. How could this have happened? How do we get the folder to return to the normal "pictures" appearance? It's as if part of the software thinks that it's the pictures folder, and part thinks it's (somehow??) the recycle bin (based on its appearance). Thank you.

A:Pictures folder appears to be "recycle bin" but still behaves like "pictures" folder.

Hello Jsprong, and welcome to Vista Forums.

This should be able to help restore this folder for you.
Backup anything that you do not want to lose in these two folders to another location.Use OPTION THREE in this tutorial to make sure that the "Pictures" folder is set to it's default location of "C:\Users\(user-name)\Pictures".Delete both folders.Restart the computer to apply. It may take a couple of restarts before the Pictures folder is back in it's default location. If for some reason the icon is not correct for it, then you can use this tutorial to fix it.Hope this helps,

My friend (we'll call him David) created for some sick and twisted purpose a folder path that contained 107 (no joke) folders within folders, something in the order of, "C:\folder\folder\folder\folder\..." David is now unable to delete the folder directory. When he tried to delete it, it says "Are you sure you want to move the folder and all its contents to the recycle bin? (yes, yes to all, or no)." He clicks "yes to all" or "yes", and it says, "The folder contains items who's name is too long for the recycle bin. Do you want to permanently delete it?" He clicks "yes" or "yes to all" again and it says, "Cannot delete z: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename."

Anyhow, does anybody know how to delete this file? Any assistance would be greatly apreciated.

A:How do I delete very long folder directories? (C:\folder\folder\folder\...)

open a command prompt,
type rmdir c:\folder /s

(assuming "folder" is the name of the main folder)
