X1 Yoga 3rd Gen - WWAN Antenna Gone

Q: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen - WWAN Antenna Gone

So I just added a WWAN card to the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen, but the typically "pre-installed" Antenna is not pre installed, I guess next year the Sim slot won't be there if you don't buy it out the door with it. Does anyone know the Lenovo FU... i mean FRU... Part number for the WWAN Antenna and if anyone also know if I could get away with NOT installing the antenna through the LCD bezel?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, I need some assistance in adding LTE/WWAN options to a P52 laptop that wasn't ordered as 'WWAN Ready' The laptop has a SIM Card slot but no M.2 WWAN Module or WWAN Antennas connected to it. I have been back and forth with Lenovo many times and they say it's not possible to upgrade this unit as it wasn't purchased originally as WWAN Ready.. which I think means the laptop would be installed with an M.2 WWAN Module and the WWAN antenna I am able to find the M.2 WWAN Module which is compatible however not finding any WWAN antenna. Hey guys, I've recently purchased a 6th generation Thinkpad X1 Carbon. At the time of my purchase it was only avaliable without WWAN.However I can now see that Lenovo il selling them with built-in WWAN too. I've opened up my laptop and I can see there is a sim-card reader installed, as well as the sim slot on the back. Also there is a free slot where the WWAN card can go. I can see there are no LTE antennas installed however.See picture: https://imgur.com/o5RU96U I have tried getting in touch with the local Lenovo sales phone number but I am always put on hold and the call gets dropped after 15 minutes of waiting each time.I have also tried opening a support ticket regarding this, asking for the part number on the modem and the antenna. However, I was only provided with the part number for the antenna. Do you guys know of any documentation on how I should go ahead for installing the antenna? As far as I understand the antenna is PN 01YR426 . What LTE modems are supported on this machine? From the specs sheet  I can see that only the Intel XMM 7360 (Fibocom L850-GL), M.2 card is listed as OEM. Where can I purchase this L850-GL module? I have tried looking various places but it doesen't seem to be avaliable for sale anywhere?! Could I maybe use a  Sierra wireless AirPrime EM7455, or something else, instead? My experience with the upgrade. First I tried to get smart and get a generic EM7455, error 1802 and shutdown occured, Lenovo whitelists hardware and illegal BIOS mods are not my cuppa Joe. Then I tried to get the EM7455 from IBM Lenovo parts, delays until June, canceled. Ordered from HPP on Amazon, Lenovo original. Main antenna pin on card broke off into the antenna connector, after the stress of two connects, no luck extracting, snapped it off and then soldered the cable into the EM7455 board. It was a dumb MISTAKE, because the cable is actually coaxial. Ordered Lenovo 1AW308 antenna (LAN and WWAN) and took the T460 apart. Carved up the micro-SIM tray (microsurgery with a blade) to accept the SIM card from AT&T. Make four cuts into the LCD bezel trim to access the screws because I was too ;lazy to pry it off, it all works now. Tips: To avoid pin amputation (which will get stuck in antenna connector) lift the WWAN card off the board avoiding contact with the connectors, wear a x10 bino magnifier preferable with a light, and bend the cables to lay flush with board before snappin in using nail, make sure you feel the slight pop when the connectors align before applying pressure. Oh and make sure you are well rested with the kids and wife out of the house Half an hour of work initially, then a five hour session to fix the booboo. Parts for the unfortunate antenna amputees, order here:IBM Lenovo Parts01AW308 Antenna (has both WiFi and WWAN, ... I have a Yoga 2 Pro. The wireless card has periodically failed. Replacing it fixed the problem. Looking on forums, perhaps I just needed to reseat it, but that's beside the point.  Last time I was replacing it, I damaged the miniature RF coax connector on the black and white wires coming into the card. I'd like to buy a replacement, but I can't find an appropriate SKU or product number. On most Lenovo laptops, that's part of the antenna. The Yoga 2 Pro service manual does not list the antenna as a part, and neither do any online resources I've been able to find.  Any idea as to what part I need to buy?

And the black and white drawn images in the manual don't really give a good indication as to how the routing should be done other than around the outside edge. I've searched videos and teardowns and can't find a good example of the model I'm working on.  Does anyone have a picture or reference image of the Lenovo Yoga 3 14 80JH laptop Wifi routing? I have a model with WWAN card and a solderen-on RAM. I would like to replace the SSD with Intel Optane to speed things up anc compensate for lack of RAM, and add a normal 2nd SSD in WWAN port. Here's a photo of the port:It has the "B" key (6 pins on one side), so I am not sure if PCI is routed or not. I have tried to insert some old 32GB SATA drives and they were not detected by windows. Now, according to this (image) and some traces on the board, it actually has SATA lanes connected. Also, according to this, it should support both SATA and PCIe x2: So why does it not work? Is there a white list of some sort in the BIOS? If so, is it still possible to hack like on those old T40?

I purchased my Yoga 260 ThinkPad (i5) in December '15 from IBM website (USA).  Spoke with terchnical sale prior to purchase to verify that the unit had WWAN capability as stated in the many marketing releases.  I was told that it was LTE capable and Lenovo was waiting for the WWAN card availability.  About a month later I called to check on status of availability.  No specific date was given, BUT I was given an FRU # for WWAN card (00JT542) specific to my Yoga 260 model # (provided my exact model # to technical assistance).  I then ordered the card from IBM Parts online.  The initial ETA was February '16.  Finally arrived in June '16.  The arriving part was a  "Sierra Wireless Airprime  Model: EM7455"  Qualcomm card.  Just yesterday I went to install the card following instructions in the Yoga 260 Thinkpad user guide.  The SIM card slot/tray is functional and the WWAN fits nicely in the chassis (no holding screw though).  However, there are no attenae connections.  The integrated LTE functionality was the compelling reason for my purchase.  Of course there are other work arounds to get LTE, but had I known the unit wasn't capable with the integrated card, I would not have purchased it.   I'm not sure where to start to get response/accommodation from IBM.  Does anyone else have similar situation and/or suggestions on how to ... A:No WWAN capability for Yoga 260?!

Hello TD22, welcome to the community,

The user guides are generic and cover all possible system configurations, the same applies to harware maintenance manuals, and may feature options which are not present on your particular system.

The early Yoga 260s were not equipped with WWAN or WWAN antennae because at that time no international agency approvals had been received for the transmit and receive functions. Systems which are agency qualified may have WWAN integrated at the factory or be WWAN ready with factory installed antennae but no WWAN module.

Is the WWAN slot on the side of my new Thinkpad Yoga 15 just for show?  I cannot seem to find out anything.  What kind of SIM card does it take?  What carriers would support it?  What would I tell a cellular carrier I need in order to buy service and plug a SIM card into it.  There seemto be as many SIM card types as there are snowflakes.   What is my IMEI number?  How do I find it?  I know I sound like a dweeb, but I'm really interested in being able to use this feature if in fact it is not just for show.  It would be SO nice to have anywhere cellular service when I travel.

Hello and welcome,

Not all TP Yogas have WWAN capability.  Most laptops and convertibles have a SIM slot since that's part of the basic structure of the machine but it doesn't necessarily mean there's a WWAN card installed.

What's your MT-M (machine type-model)?  It will look something like 20DQ007YUS - an example which doesn't have a WWAN card installed.

Hello everyone, Just ordered an X1 Yoga with the OLED display and didn't see an option for WWAN or NFC cards on configuration although I see WWAN as an option on the model without OLED.  Is there a reason for this?  Can I add the antenna kit and card later?  Same question for NFC although I didn't see NFC as an option on either model. Thanks.

A:X1 Yoga OLED WWAN/NFC Questions

For unknown reasons, Lenovo appear to have stopped selling NFC on all X1 Yogas. The parts are still available from Lenovo Parts. The NFC antenna and NFC card are relatively cheap. The cable required to connect the NFC card to the motherboard is only available as part of a kit that is rather expensive - so if that cable is missing, it will not be a cheap upgrade. Previous posts on the forum suggest that Lenovo do not support WWAN or WiGig on the OLED version of the X1 Yoga. It is unclear whether this is a physical limitation (no room for the antennas) or a regulatory issue (unwillingness to qualify the OLED version for WWAN and WiGig). I would proceed on the basis that there is no way to add WWAN or WiGig to an OLED X1 Yoga.

Hi On my ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th Gen I am experiencing a sporadic "no service" issue with the WWAN. When this happens then the Windows network dialog just reports "Cellular - No service" even if there is service (I use the same network on my phone and see whether there is service or not). Nothing but a reboot will change this state. Disabling the modem and reenabling (or flight mode) changes nothing. After a reboot it finds service again and works as expected. This happens once every few days. This is pretty annoying since it forces me to reboot my computer more ofter than I would like. Does anybody else experience this? Does anybody have a solution for this? Regards,Raffaele

When I start my Lenovo Yoga 370 from hibernation/power save it takes up to a minute to load my wwan and connect to the internet via my sim-card. It just shows the availabe wifi-networks almost immediatly but the wwan option won't show up until after a minute. I've just updated the computer to windows 1903 and the issue remains, as well as I've updated the drivers (both for the wireless card, bios and wwan) Also, sometimes, but not every time, it won't load the wireless networks at all, the dots keeps running for over 5 minutes and i seem to have to restart my whole pc to be able to connect to the internet.  Windows network diagostics sometimes suggests that i have to enter the sim2 password for my sim card, although it never really asks me to input it anywhere. I have entered the sim-password on first connect and the pc saves it so idk what it means.  Anyone else experiencing this issue and/or have a solution? Maybe it's normal for the pc to take up to a minute to fully connect over 3g/4g?

Hi Everyone, My laptop is a 3rd Gen X1-Yoga, and it has Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN (WWAN) when I purchased it.  I recently performed updates using the Lenovo System Update, whereby, the latest version of the BIOS was installed: UEFI: 1.21 / ECP: 1.08 - Dated 25/Jun/2018 I noticed that my WWAN is no longer working. I decided to perform some troubleshooting and came to the following observation: 1. Shut down the laptop, disabled in the build-in battery via BIOS, and removed the back cover, and removed the WWAN card from its slot (carefully removing the MAIN and AUX antenna cables as well) - After completing this, and turning the laptop back on and going to BIOS:  I noted under the BIOS's I/O Devices Option - WWAN option appeared (I was able to either DISABLE or ENABLE it). 2.Repeating Step #1 as per above, I proceeded to re-install the WWAN card on to its slot (carefully re-attaching the MAIN and AUX antenna cables as well) - After completing this, I noted under the BIOS's I/O Devices Option - WWAN option disappeared - hence BIOS is not detecting the Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN Card (wierd). 3.Because of the above situation, Windows 10 (Professional, x64, v1803 - Spring Creators Update) does not give the standard Cellular Network Connections that you would expect when attempting to connecting to cellular data. 4. The only solution to again use my sim is then to reinstall all drivers which I found on the Lenovo site. Anyone know how to stop this weird behaviour? Thanks,Paul
