Quick Time symbol and question mark...?

Q: Quick Time symbol and question mark...?

I have been seeing this image ALOT around websites:

Is there a way to fixing this?

I use FireFox on a mac OS X computer]

Preferred Solution: Quick Time symbol and question mark...?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Reinstall QT? It usually fixes the icon cache problems. I had it too before reinstalling yesterday and now its gone.

i am running version 1.5.01 and use usatoday as my home page. the blue banner section only shows the quicktime symbol and a question mark.

when i look at the same page with explorer i see pictures and it is running a macromedia plugin when i right click on the picture.

i deleted and reinstalled quicktime, and custom reinstalled firefox and the same problem shows up. i disabled my zone alarm firewall and the problem stays the same.

for some reason firefox defaults to quicktime rather than macromedia.

my quicktime setting for file types has all file types selected, still no luck.

this is not a serious problem but is bugging the hell out me. anyone have any ideas what to look for.

A:Firefox show quick time Q symbol no picture RESOLVED

found this from sticky on mozillazine.org. thanks. problem is fixed.

QuickTime 7.0 has registered itself as the Flash content handler
This is a more annoying problem that should never happen. However, if it does, you'll need to do the following:

* Close Firefox
* Open the QuickTime Control Panel
* Select the "Browser" tab, and open "MIME Settings"
* Make sure Flash File is not selected (it is under Miscellaneous).

If the problem is not fixed after doing this, you'll need to remove pluginreg.dat from your profile folder. If it still isn't fixed after doing that, remove npqt*.dll from your Firefox plugins folder.

Here's a weird one, I have a WinXP PC, with a hidden system file in the root of C:\ that is approximately 8 bytes in size. The filename shows up as the following image:http://imgur.com/ywamEnr
Namely Unicode characters
U+2124, U+2122, U+2620
Double-Stroke Z, Trade Mark symbol, Skull and Crossbones.
I have no idea how it got there or what software created it, but it looks decidedly suspicious (although Symantec Endpoint Protection and Malwarebytes are detecting nothing).
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Is this likely to be part of some malware?

I have a PC computer but I have Quick Time installed because I go to some sites that only have MOV files. My question is how can I get the Quick Time Player to stop playing MPG movie files???? I have it set up to play only MOV files and yet it still wants to play the MPG files. I'd rather have Windows Media Player do that because I get a bigger screen.
If I download the MPG movie file I have no problem playing it with WIndows Media Player.
I use Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

I think that I asked this once before but nothing has worked. Whenever I want to watch something that requires Quick Time I get a question mark where the picture is supposed to be.
I uninstalled it and re-installed it but nothing changed. I think that there is supposed to be an Active-X running but I don't know which it is (I usually don't allow it except if I need it for something specific).
Has anyone got any ideas how to get it to work? I know that there are better options but there are a couple of places where I really need it.

Apple is no longer going to patch QuickTime on Windows systems. And there have been two security vulnerabilities discovered which won't be patched. It's up to you whether you want to keep it installed. I haven't had it on my systems for over a year now.
Apple are still supporting it on Macs but I'm guessing eventually that will also reach its end of life and no longer be updated. Should be okay on Apple devices until they stop supporting it.

I had this problem on my last laptop from Dell and I was running Windows 7 on that also. There must be SOME program that I have installed that makes my computer run constantly in the background. I've contacted Dell but they are no help. They don't seem to understand the probem and tell me that it is normal. It is NOT normal. The working in the background symbol (the moving round circle any time the computer is thinking) comes on ALL THE TIME. I barely even do anything. Sometimes just moving my mouse activates it. Any ideas? Suggestions? I can't be the only one with this problem....

So, what happened over the past few days have been a lot. The first that I notice after having my computer on for only about 30 minutes ( of playing Minecraft ) I started to smell this weird burning smell. After smelling the smell, I immediately turned off my computer because even I know a burning smell is not a good thing. So I went on my tablet and looked at a bunch of related forum posts about the burning smell and I realized that it had something to do with the PSU so I ordered a new one. I installed the PSU earlier today, with some difficulty (I am very inexperienced with computers). I start up my computer and everything seems normal until I get to the time display screen. The little symbol at the bottom had a little white wheel that was spinning and then turned into a red X.

Long story short: This weird symbol does not allow me to go to the log on screen and I am very confused.

I am so sorry if someone already has a thread and solution, I am new to this forums and have not had time to look for a problem thread similar to mine. Side Note: I apologize for my dirty screen.

Hopefully someone can help me with my problem. Thanks in advance!

A:Strange Symbol on Time Display Screen

Your Operating System is actually version 8.1. You haven't filled in enough of your System Specs to help.

Generally the smell of fried electronics and presence of smoke means a trip to a repair shop. It could also mean a new computer. Some of the parts involved could be the power supply, the motherboard, the graphics card if separate from the motherboard, the RAM modules, the CPU, just to name the major parts.

I want to configure my PC so that every time a certain symbol is inserted into a document when the keyboard shortcut is used it automatically switches from the current font to insert it in one particular font installed on my system. Is this possible?

For example if I was typing a document in Microsoft Word 2002 using arial as my font and I pressed SHIFT + 3 on my keyboard to enter "" the symbol would be formatted using Times New Roman rather than arial and subsequent words would revert back to the previous font.

Thanks for any replies..

A:Typography/Symbol Question

Hi, Tarq. You're gonna love this.

Type the symbol.
Change it to TNR font
Select the symbol.
Hit, Insert-Autotext-New

Pause here. Suppose you want this for Great British Pounds. Name it gbp. Something EASY. NO CAPS (they're not easy).

ok. So type your shortcut name in there.
Hit ok.

Now hit return a few times.
type gpb and F3 key

Hi -------- I have the above against my " Multimedia Audio Controller " in device manager. My speakers and michrophone do not work on my p.c. and this may be the problem. It does not even recognise that I have speakers and mich. attached as they are greyed out in the " sounds and audio device properties " pop up. Also I have a tft monitor with grills for inbuilt speakers ( well I take it they are for that ) and do not get any sound out of my monitor.I feel they are related.

I downloaded a utility called " unknown device identifier 5.02 and this gave me the make and model no. of the audio card it is " sis7012 audio driver " and then proceeded to download the appropriate driver and tried to install. It failed with an error message of a red cross and 536870397 number is displayed.

I installed a satellite card a while back and wonder if there is a conflict of some sort with this.
Have you any ideas on how to get my speakers and michrophone working ?

A:Blue question mark over E Drive it seems like its gone

It's possible that the disk-drive is logically divided into both 'C:' and 'D:' partitions. That would make your CD/DVD drive as the 'E:' drive. So, put a disk into the CD/DVD drive, to see if your computer will be able to read it.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP pro, with 3 partitions. Recently I partitioned my hardrive for installing linux. After using linux for sometime, I deleted the partition using partition magic and redistributed the free space amongst the other partitions. When I was using linux, I installed a program called F-Disk, which allowed me to access my linux partitions from windows. This program made the linux partitions as separate partitions which would show up on My Computer. But now after deleting linux, these local disks still show up on my computer with a red circle and a white question mark on them. They dont have any space on them and I cant access them or anything like that. These local drives do not go away at all. I have a attached an image which shows My computer.

I had a major problem with my computer and couldn't use Restore or do a Recovery. I formatted and re-installed Windows XP using my Windows XP disk. The problem is I cant get on the Internet. There are four other computers in the house, all of which can connect ok. After hours of trying to figure out the problem, and fiddling with the wires on the modem and router, I've discovered that when I look in Device Manager there is a yellow question mark with an exclamation mark against Ethernet Controller in Other Devices. When I right-click and select properties it says that the drivers are not
installed. Obviously I can't connect to Windows Update so my only option
is to install from a specific location. I've put my Windows disk in and
used the location D:\i386 and also D:\i386\system32 but it can't seem to
find the drivers. Another query is, should there be more than one entry
in Network adapters? I only have one, that being the 1394 Net Adapter. I
seem to remember another adapter being there in the past. So, if I'm on
the right path, can I download the required driver from the Internet and
copy it over, if so, can you tell me the driver file and the folder it
needs to be in. I hope that's enough information for you and look
forward to your reply. Thank you, Gary

Hello :

When I press the shift and question mark in Gmail I get an E with an acute accent mark, instead of a question mark. In my notepad and wordperfect programs, the problem does not occur : pressing shift and the question mark at the same time get me the usual question mark..

Could someone tell me how to regain the question mark in my gmail?

Thank you,

A:Solved: Eacute instead of question mark

I found a resolution when I saw a google site that indicated a solution I had previously tried unsuccessfully : holding down the shift and control keys at the same time : it required one to hold down the control and shift keys. However, in my case anyway, I could only get it to work by holding them down for about 11 seconds!

So, the solution is to hold down the shift and control key simultaneously for an extended length of time. And in my case it was very extended!

The problem has nothing to do with having installed the wrong keyboard, which is what many would have one think.

For some reason the problem and the solution apply only when using Gmail. Notepad and other programs seem to work normally (as long as you have the proper keyboard installed).

Not certain about that.Following is "Hijack This"Any and all help appreciated.Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 12:11:54 PM, on 3/4/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16414)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXEC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\AOLacsd.exeC:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exec:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exec:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exec:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exec:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\O... Hello Sippy, Please download SmitfraudFix Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present). Hello all ! Got a small glitch which I am hoping you can help me out with. I just reinstalled windows xp on a Dell Latitude D610 and did all the Microsoft updates to service pack 3 and about 72 other Microsoft updates. Also went to the Dell drivers update website and scanned my machine thru there for drivers and downloaded and installed their recommendations. Now when I go to "device manager", in other devices it lists 2 unknowns, Network controller and PCI simple communications controller. Two big question marks with a"!" in the middle. I uninstalled and tried reinstalling them, but it says it cannot find the file on those two. Laptop still works very good, but I am wondering if I need those 2 devices and if I do, where do I get them. Thanks in advance.

A:Other devices yellow question mark.

The PCI Simple Communcations device is probably the dial-up modem...I would just disable the modem in the BIOS, unless I was on dialup.http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd610/en/ug_en/drivers.htm#wp1052327Driver Support WebpageYou need to pick the correct applicable driver for networking...and install same. Look at your system documentation to see which is applicable to the system you have.Louis

Don't know how and when, but all of a sudden I've seen all my outgoing emails in text format have a '?' at the beginning of the msg. E.g. "?Hello,...".
Obviously when I compose the msg there is no question mark.
This happens only if I use text format and with all codepages except UTF-8.

I've never installed external email clients and I've always been using Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail 2011. IE7 then IE8 and now IE9beta. I don't use 3rd party firewalls/antivirus/anti-malware etc.

On the web it's impossible to find a solution and that's the best I've seen: Unwanted Question Mark In Message Body | TheDailyReviewer

Please, can someone help me?

A:Question mark '?' in outgoing emails

If you are running an ANSI program, if it doesn't understand a character, it sticks a '?' in place of it. If UTF-8 works I'd stick with that. I've only used English versions of Windows but from programming I know it's a can of worms when you start getting into code pages, unicode and all that jazz. Not everything understands non-ANSI char set. I'd try another mail program.

Under control panel, in my device manager i have the yellow ? against other diveces/multimedia audio controller.
Is this there as i have disabled my onboard audio on my motherboard as i have a creative soundcard now?

A:yellow question mark in device mananger

most probable
read your motherboard book to make sure there isnt a jumper or dip switch that had to be moved to use a sound card.

if thats the onboard sound, right click on the yellow conflict and disable it.

Hello there, I've been having a though time trying to type the open question mark  in my P51s. I know that in english that's not used but in spanish we do all the time, and there's no sign of it in the keyboard. I just could make a copy and paste from internet when I need it, but should be a way to just shortcut it from the keyboard. Isn't it? Regards, Gabriel

Running dell dimension dm051
windows xp media center
service pack 2

the problem im getting when trying to boot safe mode, a blue screen appears with a question mark ( ? )

i have no problem logged on to windows however when i open task manager and try and end a process on any process
any help or luck?

there are also numerous files in my temp folder that wont delete. for example., c.exe, d.exe, e.exe, f.exe ... etc

A:safe mode -Question mark , error

Dell Dimension E510 here, xp media center sp2 also.

Same problem here with the safe mode -> a blue screen (not THE blue screen, btw) with an odd looking prompt and a question mark. Not a real prompt, nothing blinks.

Except on mine I can't get into windows any other way. It'll just hang at the logo screen with no hdd activity whatsoever.

Just spent couple hours cleaning this thing of trojan.generic, winlogon86 and some rogue.antispyware.antivirus. Seemed to be running ok. Then did 2 things before last reboot: [1] set page file back to 'system managed size' (it was set at custom and much larger than recommended), and [2] installed windows update 'office xp service pack 3'.

buying a new keyboard did not solve the issue

all of a sudden for no apparent reason, some of the keys will produce different characters, for example the question mark key produces ?

i`ll just be typing along and it happens. i don`t click any special combination of keys as far as i can tell, and i am certainly not deliberately setting the keyboard to `french`or something like that.

it will often stay like this for ages, then for some mysterious reason it goes back to normal.

normally a complete reboot of the computer fixes it, but that`s a real pain when im in the middle of doing something important that can`t be paused (like an online game)

A:idiotic keyboard question mark key types

OK. First of all, download this and run it;

Run a full scan please............

When the scan is complete, post the log here.
