Q: How to loosen hinges on Lenovo Yoga 15

Hi I have a Lenovo Yoga 15I have replaced the screen bezel twice now. The tight hinges simply make the bezel tear appart and eventually break apart the interior frame. So - how do I loosen the hinges ? Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The other day I was closing my ThinkPad Yoga, and I noticed a bad-sounding crunch. I tried opening and closing it again, but there didn't seem to be a problem. But I noticed today that something definitely has happened. Now, my hinges are out of alignment with one another. The right hinge looks OK, but the left hinge looks kinked forward. This causes the screen to be lopsided when in laptop mode, but it it also noticeable when the laptop and screen is flattened out. See in the the following image how the right hinge is flat, but the left hinge is kinked up?  Is there anything that can be done about this?

Ouch.... that's gotta hurt  I just grabbed my TP Yoga 14 to see if there is a way, without forcing it, to turn it into that position and it is not possible. Maybe it is time to send you machine to the local Lenovo Service Center and ask if the warranty will take over that. Regards

My Yoga 13 physically fell apart after just 18 months of quiet, academic use. I'm trying to have it repaired with the extended credit card company policy -- but I'm afraid Lenovo will block my attempt based on what appears to be a not uncommon response to these complaints: the warranty does not cover abuse. A warranty claim must imply a measure of culpability on the manufacturer.

So, I will try to document here why the Lenovo Yoga hinge design is a case of corporate hubris that have allowed some basic engineering principles to be violated. These are strong words but I believe I can back them up.

I'll hope that this will get the attention of others who have run into this problem so that, hopefully, Lenovo will coorporate in its resolution. Customers tend to become irate when their product literally falls apart after just a year or two of gentle use -- to be told its their own fault.

As for my factual findings, the hubris is easy to document. For the growing "legend of our IdeaPad Yoga" and its "boundary-busting PC" design see The 360 Degrees (and 25,000 Hinge Tests) of Yoga Design, where the hinge is presented more or less as a miracle.

Nemesis is of course what happens in real life:

(The laptop looks beaten up here because I tried to apply epoxy glue after disintegration. Only with this experiment did I realize how inherently faulty the design is.)

Follow-up: as others have experienced, Lenovo does apparently not accept loose or missing screws or consequental dammage as a valid warranty claim. Indeed, I received the message from Lenovo: "After further diagnosis, our repair engineers found damages on your computer that is not covered by the Lenovo limited warranty."   Yet, I had very clearly explained that the mechanical damage was the result of a missing screw. Thus my extended warranty claim was easily denied, because this warranty extends the original warranty!! More wasted work. So, I have my Yoga back, though, for almost three hundred dollars. The repair was fine. Nightmare is over. But I won't hide my feelings: I'm profoundly unhappy this treatment. Also, I'm abstaining from using the Yoga in tablet mode: it's simply not sturdy enough, the flexing of the case will lead to the same problem again.Luckily, as a laptop it works quite well!

I have owned my yoga for 5 years. I've had no issues until recently. One of the hinges doesn't rotate easily and has now broken the grommet that keeps the case together. Is there a way to easily loosen them to make them smoother with less tension? I've had to purchase a new top case and I don't want to snap that one either.

After having my yoga 460 for about half a year, using it mainly in normal laptop mode in the office, one hinge got stuck while closing laptop and now allow only for limited movement (I cannot close the lid and cannot open more than slighly over 90deg). Suppousedly those hinges survive over 30 000 openings. Apparently not. Anyone else had problems with low build quality of recent thinkpads? Is it just Yoga, or P40 as well? I'm considering changing for some more robust laptop.

I noticed my hinges were getting loose and also the display kind of wobled in the pretty standard position - approx.angle 125deg.   I contacted local Lenovo service partner and he suggested replacing the hinges which turned out to be a good idea as one of the old hinges turned out to be faulty. I had a possibility to hold both of the replaced hinges and test them and there was a huge difference between the left one and the right one. The left one moved freely in the range + - 5 degrees in any position. Pretty weird as I had previously heard so much  praise regarding the Lenovo yoga hinges. The issue has been resolved for me but it may happen to other users so I think it is good to know such an issue may arise in time to come. If so, hopefully within the product warranty. Take care David

I am hearing from my laptop a hissing/rattling noise, like you might expect from a conventional hard drive or something. It is not the thermal module fans (it occurs when they fans are stopped) and it is not the noise people refer to when moving their laptop (the hinge pieces). It is relatively quiet, but I thought it sounded like perhaps a dead or  dying fan, however it seems to be coming from the back middle of the laptop, where the mainboard is. Any idea what this might be?

A:Yoga 900 - rattling noise (not hinges, not fans)

The only thing I can think of is the battery. This is in the middle of the laptop, and may make noises when charging. Does this occur when it charges, or does it occur all the time?

Hello,I have an HP m6 that suffered from constant hinges breaking, despite getting them replaced, they break in 1 year max. Normal usage and no going outdoors I swear.I then got yesterday a Dell 5558 that im returning due to its touchpad and screen's washed colors. Now I'm here, about to get a G50-80 or a Z51, so my question is related to the G50-80 here: 1- What are the known issues? Everythin got issues, i'd rather know them before buying than after. 2- Hinges... anyone experienced or heard about problems related to them breaking and so on?  Thank you

A:Lenovo G50-80 Hinges and Known Issues?

hi,I have purchased Lenovo Laptop G50-80 on Nov 1st last year. I did face the issue. First the hinges become  tight.Even for Normal usage, the two bottom screws peeled off.  The bottom case is being pulled apart near the hinges. When I approached the Lenovo  service center , they said the whole case is to be replaced. They charge me USD 80. They said it will not be covered under warranty. In my view, they have made plastic support , instead of metal. Any justice ?

It happens when I open the laptop up and you'll see on the picture (hopefully) what I'm talking about.  I tried to research this issue and found a few posts and youtube videos but it looked like the issues involved something inside of the laptop while this appears to be a bit different. Any help on how I might be able to fix this is greatly appreciated.

I have recently visited Lenovo service center to fix an issue with my fault keypad, as my laptop is under extended warranty a new keypad was fixed as a resolution. Service executive reported that the hinge has a problem and need to get it fixed before getting worse. After fixing the new keyboard the hinge issue became more annoying as the left hinge thread completely released and now when I re-visited the store and inquired for a fix they informed that hinge repair will not cover under warranty and forwarded a quotation for 10000 rs approx to replace the lower and upper case completely. Its hardly 2 years that I used my laptop and ran into multiple issues, before replacing the keyboard the threads are available and has a minor issue but after fixing it, threads got completely released and started making sounds, the same has been reported but there is no proper response from the executives.

I would like to get some help hopefully from someone on here. Recently about 2 months ago i had sent my laptop in for a warranty repair (1 year manuf. warrranty) to fix a broken fan and extremely bad light bleed issue with the screen. When I got the laptop back the screen was unchanged although they assured me it was and many of the rubber covers for the screws were also missing, but the fan was fixed. As soon as I had received it back initially the hinges were making a cracking sound but I had thought nothing of it, now they are out of alignment and I am unable to fully close or move the laptop its full range of motion. I was told when I called the warranty center today that i am out of warranty, even when it is lenovo's service technicians who caused this problem. Is there anyone who can help with a resolution to this?

Seems there are some design issues and manufacturing defect with the way Lenovo Egde 2-in 1 touch screen works. The right hinge somehow has come loose and then it forces the screens to separate. When you close the laptop it seems to aggravate the situation.  I have certainly not dropped it and mishandled it. Searching on the internet it seems to a very common issue. Wondering how should I go about getting this fixed. Does anybody have some fix and something? is there a recall? Its a fairly new laptop with good specs. See attached pictures.everything still worksClosing it seems to split the screenskeep the laptop open at all time to prevent it from falling apart. The laptop screen is seperating due to hinge issue.

I have been having an absolutely MISERABLE expereince dealing with Lenovo with this computer.  About 2 weeks ago, the left hinge on my pc notebook began sticking and with routine opening and closing, which has forced the separation of the casing from the screen.  It was under waranty until 12/28/2016.  I placed my first call on 12/27/2016 to get the process going and have gotten nothing but a runaround with each call to India I make.  Each time, I get a guarantee that I will get a call back within "3 business days" to no avail.  I am told that my case is escalated and I should expect an email from a "case manager" and should get an email within 24 hours, and NOTHING.  I have taken out an extended warratny with Lenovo based off the suggestion of my call on 12/27/16 in order to get in home assistance, and nobody want to aknowledge anything to help with this case.  Any help that anyone can provide to help expedite this process, whether it be a strategy to get someone in America to actually call me back, another number beyond the one on the website to spreak to someone "higher up," etc.  I am beyond frustrated with this case and am about done with Lenovo...

Hey there, Both hinges of my Ideapad 300-14ISK are now broken after 6 months of light use. The right one started to freeze after less than 2 months from the purchase date. It has resulted in breaking the LCD cover as a result as I opened or closed the lid. About a month later, the left hinge did the same. I can't open or close the lid at all now. I am now looking for a replacement for those hinges since I gave up on trying to resolve this with the support team although it is still in the warranty (however I bought it from outside the US. They're claiming that's why they can't help me). The Lenovo website has 2 parts for the hinges for this model but I can't understand the difference between them. First one is "5H50K14044 - HINGE L+R LIMR L300-14IBR" while the second one is "5H50K14032 - HINGE L+R L300-14IBR". I can't figure out the difference between both parts. The only difference in the name is the "LIMR" word in the description of the first one. Does anyone understand what the difference between both parts is? Thanks!

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

Hello everyone! I'd like to tell about an issue with a laptop and seek your advice on the problem I have. I will start from the beginning in order to present the whole situation. In 2015, on the 16th of August, I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Y7070 laptop from Russian vendor. I also live in Russia (St. Petesburg), so I tried to get support there. After a little while, a registered at Lenovo Support site and found out that my laptop is covered by warranty that ends on 2017-03-18. I though that was good to know and went on to using a laptop. Everything was good and fine until one day in November, 2016 I opened a lid of a laptop and it went with a loud cracking sound ? the hinges were torn out of the body of a laptop and it seemed like plastic that held the whole thing together was broken. There were no prior issues with a device, so I wrote an e-mail to the vendor I bought it at, described the issue and they replied that that is not of their concern what Lenovo Support site says and that their warranty was only 1 year and it ended on 2016-08-17. Okay, I thought, and went to Lenovo Support site again to find service providers in St. Petersburg. I found one and took a laptop there. Indeed, they said that I have to pay for repairs and they have to change both screen and bottom covers in order to fix the problem. And as they have no parts in stock, I have to wait from 1 month to indefinite time for the parts to arrive. I brought the laptop the... Read more

Either improve your quality in India or replaced your poor quality spare. Or else simple go away from India.

Have you tried using parts lookup?  Choose "Mechanical Assemblies" on the left under commodity type.  Dont post your serial number here but if you put it in parts lookup you will find parts for your laptop.  I just looked up Generic u530.

With that part number you can get at Lenovo Encompass store.  Please verify part numbers before buying.

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. Hi everyone. I can see that people with other similar style Lenovo laptops (Yoga 900) complain about the same issue so was wondering if there is a solution or an optimized version of this software. I did an update of the BIOS and the Power Management driver and still a constant power usage.  Once the laptop is flipped the YMC detects it and turns off the keyboard functionality to prevent accidental presses and that is pretty much all until it flipped back and enabled. And all of this requires a constant high CPU usage? Any help would be highly appreciated. I also tried rolling back to older drivers without luck in decreasing this CPU hog usage. To put such load on a i5 6th gen CPU really implies an inferior service integration....

Hi,I have spent a lot of time looking for a laptop which could meet my requirements. A week ago I bought this laptop and I love it, BUT the screen is giving me painful eyes just after like 30 minutes. I tried during the day, in the evening, to simulate different lightning conditions, tried to update BIOS and all drivers, playing with brighness, color setup, ... the same result. My girlfriend initially said that it can be it's only my perception, but then she tried to use it and got eye pain after like 30 minutes. I'm a programmer and she is a graphic designer, so we are used to spend like 10 hours a day in average behind a laptop, but we never get such a pain, as from this one, after like 30 mins. I tried to check if the laptop has PWM flickering. I tried to record the screen with my phone, and compare it to my older work laptop (Lenovo T520), which I never get an eye pain or headache from. When I look very detailed at the video from the new laptop, I can maybe see like a tiny flickering on the font displaying google results, but nothing in the background white). So why would this new laptop give us immediately such a headache? Resolution, size of the fonts are eqactly the same as the old laptop sitting next to it.... Anyone can... Read more
