Volume function keys work but volume bar not visible

Q: Volume function keys work but volume bar not visible

Hi everyone,I had the hard drive replaced recently in my G580 (Windows7) and everything is perfect except this one thing. I use the Volume: FN/down and FN/up a lot. It's very awkward that I can't see the volume setting any more. I know I can use the volume control in the tray but that is too slow to use in a live muic situation.btw the Fn/brightness also works but doesn't show the settings. Is this a setting that has gone awry that I can easily change?I've seen posts about the FN not working at all but nothing about it owrking but just not being visible. Thanks for any help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

Hello, I have problems with volume function keys on used X250 I recently bought. The thing is that all function keys work just fine all the time, red backlight works on function keys including the mute key. After restart, I am able to control the volume (F1, F2, F3) until I open any random app that uses speakers (Spotify, Netflix or Youtube in Firefox, VLC player etc.). After that, volume keys stop working and I can control volume only on main panel.I searched through this forum and all similar problems were solved by updating drivers. I already updated BIOS, Audio and Keypad drivers, I installed HotKey Features Integration software, System Interface Foundation software, I also tried KeyTweak, nothing seems to be working for me. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance!

All the other fn keys work just fine, but the volume keys do not work. I have noticed that restarting my computer temporarily fixes the issue, but once I hit the "mute" key everything stops working again. If I do not use my "mute" key, the other two increase and decrease volume keys work perfectly fine. Muting my laptop using the volume slider in the Windows toolbar has the same effect.  Thank you

I am pretty well versed with upgrades from Windows and HP. I purchased and registered this new HP Envy Notebook HP - m7-n109dx a month ago.  After either Windows or HP updates the Function keys for Dim, Brightness and Volume had stopped working.  After this began I rolled back and resinstalled video and keyboard drivers one at a time and rebooted the system.  Nothing is working. We need somone to give us a patch to download to fix this universal problem. I scoured this forum and many others but because this computer is a 2016 computer there are not many expert suggestions from HP or power users to resolve this problem. On the other hand, I see complaints in many forums about the problem, hence the description as being a universal problems. Is it a Windows Updates for W10 that is the culprit?  Is the newest BIOS update from HP that is the problem?  I do know my machine worked great for two weeks until updates from HP and Windows began pouring in. Could we please  have an expert reslove this without speculation?  I have done all that any expert would do to resove the problem. No, I am not going to reset the system either. Thank you in advance to whomever the hero will be with the right answer.

Pressing any of the hot keys results in an f1-12 rather than the previous function of changing volume, toggling keyboard lights and changing brightness etc. This happened around the time of me installing some new drivers for an audio interface so may be related to that. Ive tried going into the BIOS and toggling the hotkey option on and off, and installing hp quick launch software but nothing has worked so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance - C. Hello zoyana Welcome to the Seven Forums!

If you had a spare hard drive to back files upto the live and harder manual method would allow you to use a live Linux disk in order to copy and paste files over to the second drive and then simply nuke the external to insure it was totally bug free seeing an entirely new volume created in it's place. That would still require tunning a thorough bug sweep over the rescues files to insure none had been recoded by the malware however.

For using the other guy's OS for a project like this I can point you to an older thread showing to make a live data recovery flash drive with ubuntu at the time seen at Using the "Other OS" For a USB Rescue Device?

Presently Linux Mint or Linux Mint Debian would the slightly larger but preferred distro. Knoppix Live on dvd only is also one of the others for this providing the partition information is intact. If the partition table is toast due to corruption then other options like disk recovery program would then be needed to restore the partition(s) on the drive itself.

A fast test would be going into the Disk Management tool however found under Adminstrative tools/Computer management/Storage and right clicking on the effected volume to use the change drive letter option. That will show if the volume is able to be remounted in Windows without problems.

If that fails then the live method for data recovery would be an option to consider since the distro is not able to be infected by the ma... Read more

A:FN Keys Volume Not working

I'm not sure if this will help (or perhaps at least explain), but I found this on the Sony web site: View Document 0 170586639.

Since it is new, I'd contact Sony for assistance at: Sony eSupport - Electronics - Contact Support. I'd give you a more specific site, but you didn't provide the full model number so I can't go any further. They should be more than happy to assist you especially since it is so new.

I hope this helps and, if necessary, that they can help you. I'd try to find out more myself, but again without the model number (and there seem to be hundreds), I can't locate your specific system to check it out and see if there are any instruction manuals or troubleshooting guides or helpful articles or anything. I'm sure they'll help you, but if you end up posting back here, please include the full model number in your post.

Good luck!

Well I just finished out typing a long post for this and accidentally hit the back button on my mouse...

So I bought a Microsoft Sidewinder x4 keyboard today and about 2-3 hours ago I noticed that the volume buttons on it didn't work. Every other key on the keyboard works and Ive seen a lot of other people with the same problem and I tried the variety of solutions given to them and none of them worked.

I tried uninstalling the driver (not entirely sure if it uninstalled) but I couldn't find any way to uninstall Intellitype (the keyboard software), it wasn't in the list of installed programs. I tried doing a 'clean boot' and that didn't help at all. And as always the microsoft troubleshooter program didn't do anything.

This is very frustrating for me because I do use these buttons very often and all help is grately appreciated.

Btw I'm using Windows 7 and I do have the latest drivers installed as far as I know.

Hi have a Gateway M-series (M-2623u) laptop with Win7 SP1 loaded on it. This laptop features volume control "touch keys" and the volume randomly increases and (mostly) decreases. Sometimes I don't even touch the volume; other times, I try to increase the volume and when I move my finger away from the key, the volume decreases. There is also a visual indication that the volume is being adjusted. In the previous case, I can see the "decrease volume" key light up. I am very annoyed by this and believe it to be a hardware issue. Accordingly, I would like to disable these keys in the registry. Can anyone provide assistance.

Can you advise me please.

A:Volume Keys stopped working

Too bad that you waited this long. A System Restore back to a date when it did work probably would have taken care of it. As its been several weeks, its too long to fall back.

One thing that worked on a user with a desktop was to uninstall the keyboard in the Device Manager, then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the keyboard. However, if you have a log on password, this will not work.
