Unable to install Window 8 Professional, keeps rebooting

Q: Unable to install Window 8 Professional, keeps rebooting

I have an HP Pavilion Laptop that originally had Vista installed on it, then it was upgraded to Windows 8. One day it would not boot. It would display a message that Windows was preparing to repair itself and then it would quickly flash a message that the PC ran into a problem and needs to reboot. Once it reboots, it would do the same thing again.

I backed up the data from the hard drive to an external using a Linux live CD and I ran some checks on the HDD. So the HDD appears not to be the source of the problem.

At this point I thought the best choice of action would be to install a fresh/clean copy of Windows 8, However, I am still stuck in the same loop. I turn the laptop on with the Window 8 disk inserted and press any key to boot from the DVD drive when prompted. I can hear the DVD drive spin up and then the Windows logo appears and the same message about running into a problem and needing to reboot appears.

I am really stumped by this one. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Preferred Solution: Unable to install Window 8 Professional, keeps rebooting

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Update: I followed these instructions for optimizing your HDD for Windows re-installation and I get a BSOD everytime I try to boot from the CD.

Maybe a hardware problem???

A friend recently gave her desktop to my kids to use. She told me that it may have a virus. I have been trying unsuccessfully to install windows update. I receive error code 80070308. Today, I received a message window saying that there is a .net frame work file missing due to some harmful virus. Debug malware error 895-system 32.exe failure. I also received a message window that said BSOD: Error 333 Registry Failure of operating system-Host:BLUE SCREEN ERROR 0x000000CE. It also included a phone number to contact someone. I called and they basically told me that I had a virus and that for $249 they could help me fix my computer. I am on a fixed income and unable to afford that but having a computer is a very helpful tool for my kids schoolwork. I am unable to include the CBS zip file because it is 15MB.

A:Unable to install window updates

That phone number is part of your infection. It's a scam.
Don't call again and don't send money or let them to remote access your computer.

If this was my computer this is what I would do.

1. Scan with my anti virus program/MSE in my case.

2. Scan with Malwarebytes.

3. Scan with Super Anti Spyware.

4. Scan with AdwCleaner

5. Then finish off with the free Eset Online scan. This one will take some time.

6. After removing all the garbage that was found I would do a
sfc /scannow.

If you need help with any of these just ask for help.

A:Unable to install Window 7 or 8 on Inpiron 5520

Hi Prashant Deokar,
Yes you can install Windows 7 as well as Windows 8 on GPT partition. You just need to format the hard drive completely. You can create or delete partitions press "shift+F10" this will open a command prompt and you can use diskpart to convert to GPT. You may refer to the Microsoft link: http://bit.ly/QJ0FEh.
* Note: This step leads to complete data loss including pictures, music files, videos, documents and applications. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further questions.

This is my first time so forgive if Im screwing it up. While reviewing bank docs (this has happened more than once BTW) I keep getting a message that my "current browser" doesn't support this site) & then proceeds to give me 3 options IE11 (which I am partial to IE), Google Chrome, and one other that I cannot remember. I tried to download IE11 but I keep getting a pop up advising that in order to download IE11 I must have have Windows 7 SP1 downloaded. OK, I have my PC set to Windows automatically update by going into my control panel and clicking on Windows Update----after about 45 minutes I get a "reply" thats really just a blank page so I assume I have no updates. Prior to having Windows 7 Professional, I had Home Premium. I started having issues with Windows not automatically updating BEFORE I upgraded to Professional (I took it to a professional to upgrade for me and check everything out) and everything was fine for a while so as my dearly departed father used to say to me when I was a teenager & my car broke down "it's not the short between the seat and the steering wheel". This is driving me nutz. Further, this doesn't happen all the time, just about every other time I access the site (which is about every other day). Can someone PLEASE help me? Thanks for your patience. not2techy

Hey everyone,
I am coming across a problem with installing Windows on my new build.

I am unable to install Windows 7 or XP on my new build.

I own a Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit Disc and the XP Disc is from my old PC.

After choosing to boot from my optical drive, I receive a Windows Boot Manager scree that tells me that Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

Status: 0xc00000e9

I have tried the following:

► Rebooting my PC and only having my SSD connected to my MB (no beeps)
► Rebooting my PC and only having my HDD connected to my MB (no beeps)
► Trying both of my HDDs connected to my MB (no beeps)
► Having both of my HDDs disconnected. (no beeps)
► Trying to install Windows XP, but I received a similar error (no beeps)
► Changed the SATA mode in my BIOS from ACHI to IDE - (my pc then made loud, rapid, and continuous beeps)

Do I have to send my drives back for an RMA or is my MB bad?

Everything is powering on, but I do not know what the problem is.

Could it be my SATA 6GB/s cables?

No good RMA'ing the hard drive until you test it with the manufacturer's diagnostic software so you have some ammo to fire at them should they give you the runaround and blame something else. And if it does check out okay when you test it, no point RMA'ing anyway.

You'll need to test it with the DOS version (that is, from a bootable CD). The links are here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287

I'm going to write a "tl ;dr" version.

I've a problem with my computer.
Once I start up my computer after not using it for a few hours, I could use the desktop until it reboots.
Meaning, I was using firefox and msn, and then after a few minutes later, my computer screen goes black and automatically reboots on itself.
After it reboots, the screen shows OC fail settings. I pressed "del" button, and "load optimized defaults".
After that, the computer reboots right? And... it somehow hangs on me before getting into the login page of xp accounts.
So, I pressed down on the 'power' button until it shuts down.
After that, when I start up my computer for the second time, it loads normally and there was no problem at all. I could get into desktop and continue doing my stuff.

I thought it could be a driver or application problem.
I've already tried the following:

type 'verifier' and 'verifier/reset' on run. (No blue screen of death appeared)
Untick the 'automatically restart' under startup and recovery settings.

I hope someone could help me. T_T

I've posted this on another website forum, but they haven't replied and it's been five days now.

Let me start from the very beginning!

I have an Acer Aspire 3050 Vista 32-bit Home Basic laptop. If you need anymore details, please let me know.

A week ago I finally figured out that you have to mute the speakers in Realtek HD Audio Device so the sound would play through the headphones. About two days after that, no sound would come through the headphones, but would come from the speakers. So my sister suggested we un-install Realtek. I did and then I re-installed it and re-started the computer.

When the computer booted back on, a little thing at the bottom said "installing latest drivers" and then I had to click "allow" to let it search for audio. A few moments later, a box popped up that said it found the audio device but "This operation requires an interactive window station." Yes, that one...

I have enabled UAC since I don't have to click allow on the restricted areas, and I have tried many many suggestions from other forums, but none of them have worked.

I know it's not a hardware problem considering when I'm in BIOs and try to go backwards, beeps come from the speakers so they are working fine. And I'm guessing the "No Audio Output Device is installed" is because I'm not able to update the drivers. Also when I go into Device Manager, there isn't an option for "Sound, audio, or... Read more

A:window xp professional

Windows XP 32-bit will recognize and use a maximum of about 3.25 GB of RAM.

Windows XP 64-bit will recognize and use more than 4 GB of RAM.

Unless you plan to install it in a computer that has and needs more than 4 GB of RAM, use the 32-bit version.

You may also run into a problem with installing and using certain programs with the 64-bit version.

I am at work and my question is for the computer at home. I have reformat my harddrive and try to install win. xp professional on the computer. Turn on the computer and i am in dos mode. I put in the win. xp professional disk in the cd rom to install. The computer then goes installing, it starts by going to the xp setup screen, ask a few questions like Fats 32 and copywrite agreements and such. It would not go into the actual installation of the xp installation program where it would ask for a disk code. After the xp setup program, it then ask to restart my computer, which i did. After the restart it would ask to "press a key for cd-rom boot" and i did, then it would go into the xp setup screen again and the whole xp setup process would starts over again and then it would ask to be reboot again. Now during the beginning of restarting the computer, if i didn't press a key at that point of time when it was asking "press any key to boot from cd-rom", then it would give me this promt "NTLDR is missing press any key to restart". I then would press a key but it would not restart but the same prompt "NTLDR is missing press any key to restart" would appear again. I cannot do anyting at this point and have to mannually turn off the computer. I don't know what to do now?

Please help

A:need help in installing window xp professional

NTLDR is missing press any key to restart, your getting this error because there is a cd in the drive and it's looking for NTLDR file, which appears not to be on it. (strange)

go to www.bootdisk.com and download the six floppies for xp. Put the first one in your puter, and restart, run through all six, and then continue the set up process with the cd.

you said you reformatted the hard drive? I believe you have to set the partition first, then format. XP should do this for you, try the boot disks, and let us know if it works.

I have Windows XP and I have Office Professional 2003. I downloaded the Trial 2007 Office Pro from Microsoft's website, but after trying decided I really didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Even before I unistalled when ever I opened a 2003 application the Windows installer would pop up. Now that I have uninstalled 2007, my 2003 won't open, it is like it isn't there (although I went to the control panel and it was there). The Windows Installer pops up no matter what I try to do, even logging on to the internet.

I went into the control panel where you can add and remove programs and 2003 is still there. I tried restoring back to a previous date, but that wouldn't work.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Installer to stop popping up, and how can I get the system to recognize my 2003 Office Software?

Some searching lead me to Can I downgrade from Windows 7 Ultimate to Home Premium? - Microsoft Community.

Try at your won risk!

Hello Everyone

I was in a similar situation. I had "Windows 7 Home Prem OA HP" on a HP desktop I bought new and then upgraded the system to Ultimate with an Upgrade key. But now that I bought a refurb desktop with no OS (with a COA for "Windows Vista Business OEMAc") I needed to use that Ultimate license on the "new" refurb desktop. So my "downgrade ultimate to home premium" search brought me here, amongst other places.

I used a registry solution explained here and in several other places, but I made the changes manually and without the use of a popular tool from a website called deviantart. I figured I was better off hacking the puter manually myself. I did however used it this way (notice upper & lower case matching the "Ultimate" entry format):

HKLM\Software\Microsot\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
EditionID "Ultimate" changed to "HomePremium"
ProductName "Windows 7 Ultimate" changed to "Windows 7 HomePremium"

For reference, I also used the following posting on tomshardware (Downgrading Win7 Pro to Home Premium - Downgrade - Windows 7), specially the response by aquasystems. I would've added this reply there but the thread was closed.

Then, I needed to do an "in-place repair upgrade." I tried using the wi... Read more

Alright, a problem that's fresh, as it just occurred today, I'm looking for some help, hoping I could come here to find some.

I booted my computer up this morning, it came up to my COMPAQ first screen, red-and-white, where F10 is System Recovery, F1 is Setup, and 'Esc' is Boot, so then, instead of the usual black screen with the flashing white underscore sign in the top-left corner of the screen, it came up with the usual Windows error message if something had gone wrong:

As Edge browser doesn't support modaldialog, I want to pass some value to another window using window.open
From a parent window say A, trying to open another window - ChildWindow.htm using window.open. I am unable to pass string value from A.

var dialog = window.open("Child_Window.htm?", "title", "width=550px, height= 350px,left=100,top=100,menubar=no,status=no,toolbar=no");

dialog.MyVariable = "some string value";
dialog.opener = window;

In Child window, I get undefined reading the variable in the second window.

I forgot my administrator password and can only log into guest. When I log into I can't do anything because access is denied. Do I need to install the operating system again? Even booting in safe mode required a password for the administrator.

A:lost adminstrator password in window xp professional

Unless there is no password- you often see the password prompt box, but there is no password, so just try pressing the Enter key to log on.

It's not clear to me, whether you mean a personal user account at Admin level......or, the actual Administrator account. These are two different accounts.....

There is no other help except this from Microsoft, >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305

If there actually was a typed password, and you have forgotten it, there is nothing we can help you with because that is a violation of our terms of use for this site. I have to Close your thread.

I have done a lot of reading...tried a few things...no virus or issue that I can determine..EMISOFT and SuperAnti, system clean, basic task bar and start up review..nothing seems wrong. PC is very very clean from my point of view. It sound like it is trying to download something and sometimes I can get it to stop by rebooting. Almost think is has something to do with FIREFOX or an update of some type. I installed more RAM a few months ago and even adjusted the paging and all that...still happens. CPU goes to 100% when this happens which is most of the time..The PC however worked fine..It could be getting slower but not really..then again..I am so confused...any thoughts out there as to what I might be able to research and or do?

You should use the Windows Task Manager or better Process Explorer to check what is using the CPU at 100%

My computer shut itself down and as it restarted it hung on the windows progress bar and reverted to a blue screen with the following message: Stop: 0X00000024 NTFS- File System Address BFFS78A2 base at BFEF 3000
Date stamp 3edebe95 NTFS.SYS. Nothing I have tried will reboot it. I will not do anything but the blue screen. I have virus protection and firewall. It will not even boot from the Windows 2000 CD to check for errors or even reformat.

Hello.  I have many pictures is my photo gallery including scans, img and others.  Each item is assigned a number for example scan0001 and img001.  Lately pictures have been showing up in my photo gallery and are assigned numbers that start with B000...for example scan0001 is assigned a number such as B0001234.  Both the scan picture and the B000  picture remain in the photo gallery.  I have an external hard drive and thought that the B000 were backup numbers.  I have looked on google and asked the question about the B000 and have had no luck.  Can someone help.  Thank you.

Hi All,

I use Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. I want to open folders in command prompt from windows explorer without having me to navigate in the cmd window to my folder. After researching in google, I came to know that there is an option (Open Command Window Here) in the right-click menu to open command prompt windows quickly. However, when I right-click I do not see that option. Instead I see an option called ?cmd?. When I hold shift key and right click on this option I get an error message. See attached.

I tried to google this error in internet but couldn?t get any clues as to why this happens. Some sites suggested me to delete the "Extended" registry keys in the following nodes:

I tried to delete the ?Extended? key from the above registry nodes and restarted my laptop but didn?t help.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Open Command Window Here option not working in Windows 7 Professional

Hello Red Hunt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The "Extended" key is for having to press Shift + right click instead of just right click.

If you like, see if using step 2 in the tutorial below may be able to restore "Open Command Window Here", and no longer having to press Shift.

Open Command Window Here - Add or Remove Shift + Right Click

Hope this helps,

Hi guys,

Really hope you guys can help me with the problem that I'm having right now.

It was all normal one day when my computer suddenly froze up and I had to do a reset. However, It briefly went into this BIOS sort of page and started updating BIOS which failed.

Ever since, whenever I try switching on the power the fans inside as well as the LED lights comes on, then it automatically did the same thing, power went off, den power comes back on with fans spinning along with LED lights, then off again.

I have seriously no idea what to do right now and I can't even bring it to my motherboard's manufacturer to see what's wrong because my warranty happened to expire a week ago.

Much appreciated for any help that you guys may give.

Yours sincerely,
